Soultember 2023
Tumblr media
Hello and welcome back to Soulmate September! Firstly, sorry for the delay, it’s been a busy couple of months and I’ve had little time and motivation for any but the bare minimum lately.
Anyway, I’ve done up a quick list and a pretty little graphic for this years prompts.
I’ve gone a little different this year—we've got three soulmate tropes to play with, including a new one that we came up with in one of my Discord chats—and two general prompts that you can pair with the soulmate trope of your choice!
Remember, the prompts are meant to inspire you, you don’t have to fit the letter of the prompt—just create something! If you think it fits, IT FITS!!! (And no one will be policing your work, if they do, block them!)
So, without further ado, here are your Soultember Prompts for 2023!
Tumblr media
Text version and further information under the cut
Red String of Fate – everyone is connected to their soulmate/s by a line or thread.
Soul Freckles – everyone has a set of freckles that form a distinctive shape that hints at who their soulmate will be. The trick is interpreting them.
First Words – everyone has the first words their soulmate says to them tattooed on their body.
Fun Holidays – choose a day from this website and combine it with your favourite soulmate trope!
Monet in Paris – this one is inspired by recent visits to the Monet in Paris and Van Gogh Alive exhibitions but it doesn’t have to be Monet or Van Gogh! Use this prompt however it inspires you – an Artist AU, your favourite artist, an art gallery, an artistic quote, colour. Go wild!
Finally, if none of these prompts speak to you, feel free to write from previous years prompts:
2018
2019
2020
2021
2022

Soultember Prompt 5: Color one from 2018 list
Fandom: The Dragon Prince
Summary: People are colorblind until you see your soulmate for the first time. Amaya never expected to be looking at her enemy as the world lit up around her.
The breach had never looked so beautiful. It had always been a place of death and fear but right now it was lit up by color. It stunned Amaya for a moment, the color that erupted from the lava.
The moment of admiration quickly faded to dread. Why here? Why now? Why, her? The general looked back to her opponent, a skilled Sunfire elf. She looked just as surprised.
Then the elf drew her sword. It was colorful, the blade being different shades of, green? No yellow. It looked lively in the same way that Sairi had told her.
Amaya drew her sword. She looked at it, curious to see how it changed. Nope still gray. Something seemed wrong about fighting the women you're destined to love.
Even if they were soulmates they were enemies first. They attached each other but both soldiers couldn't help but get distracted. The bright colors that surrounded them, the overwhelming feeling of the world looking so different.
The colors were the only destination. There was something alluring about the elf. Every part of Amaya felt that this was wrong. It felt traitorous to feel that way.
When their fight ended Janai wandered around, taking in the sights of the world.
Amaya wasn't going to tell anyone. But when she arrived at the base and saw Gren she couldn't help but smile. He looked good in color. His hair was definitely not what she had been expecting. It was like a lighter version of the lava.
'What are you so smiley about?' Gren signed.
'Just happy to see you' she replied.
    Gren smiled. That was sweet.
Amaya's smile slowly faded. She didn't want to lie. Gren was her closest friend, she should tell him. He was unwavering in his optimism, he'd find the positive.
Then she looked at him. She had to come to terms with it first. She couldn't tell Gren, at least not yet.
For the next few days Amaya wondered about the elven stranger. She was a good fighter, strong, beautiful, and dangerous.
When night fell that day, the general rode up to the breach. She knew it wasn't a good idea but, she had to know. When she got off her horse, she went to where the two had met.
And she wasn't the only one there. The elf sat near the edge of the path. She looked gorgeous. It pained Amaya, finding beauty in Xadia. She hated it, she hated her self for it.
Then the elf stood. Amaya waved. The soldier looked at her, "what are you doing here?" She asked.
    'Looking for you' she signed.
    "What?"
Grabbing a piece of paper, a feather, and an ink well, Amaya questers to the ground. Unsure the elf walked over and sat down. Then the human did.
Amaya grabbed the feather gently and wrote, 'Im deaf.'
The elf looked at her and reached her hand out for the pen. She took it and dipped it in the ink. 'Okay'.
Amaya took it back. 'So, you're my soulmate?'
    'And you're mine?'
    They looked at each other.
"This alone is treason." The elf sighed.
'It is' Amaya wrote. 'What's your name?'
The elf grabbed the feather carefully, 'Janai.'
    'Im Amaya.'
"Amaya" Janai said. It sounded right, saying her name. She hated it in the best way she could.
Maybe this would be okay. Everything had to be okay. Fate wouldn't be so cruel as to connect them only to have it be impossible to love each other right?
'Do you like color?' Amaya wrote.
The two's hands touched as they exchanged the feather. 'I do, do you?'
    'I do. Got a favorite?'
"I'm not sure what it's called but-' then she pointed to a color on her armor.
    'Yellow?'
    "How do you know?"
'My sister used to tell what the colors looked like. She said it was bright and lively; the color of the sun.'
    'Oh, you have a sister?'
Amaya nodded sadly. She grabbed the pen and dipped it into the ink. 'She's dead.'
    "Oh, I'm so sorry."
    Amaya didn't say anything.
Janai grabbed the pen softly, 'What's your favorite color?'
She pointed at the color of her armor, 'blue.'
    "How did she describe blue?"
'The color of the sky and of the ocean but also sadness.'
Janai tried to look at the sky but clouds blocked her way. They stayed over the breach, making the area darker than the rest of the land around it.
'If you want we can take a walk? I can tell you what color some things are. If I'm right anyway.'
Janai looked unsure, "to do that we'd need to leave the breach."
    'Then I'll follow you'
    "Are you sure?"
Amaya nodded. She stood up and extended her hand out for Janai.
Janai led the way. It was the first time in nine years that Amaya had been in Xadia. It felt different being there just to talk instead of going to kill.
Deep down she knew this wouldn't be the last time she'd be in Xadia to see Janai and the more she thought about it, the more she was okay with it. Fate would have brought them together for a reason and maybe that reason was simply to love each other.

Nonsense
@soulmateseptember
Summary: Written for Soultember 2023. Set before Httyd 1. A soulmate. Everyone has one, but not everyone is lucky enough to meet theirs. The only thing you have to lead you are your first spoken words. Despite growing up surrounded by a tightknit village, Hiccup feels alone. And as his First Spoken Words sound like nonsense to him, he fears his soulmate, too, will be as out of reach as the acceptance and love that he seeks from his father and his tribe.
Warning: /
Rating: General
Characters: Hiccup
Pairing: Hicctooth (platonic)
Words: 530
Fandom: How to Train Your Dragon
Prompt: First Words
Author’s Notes: My only prompt written for Soultember 2023.
Enjoy! :)
XXX
Nonsense. The words sound like nonsense to him.
Ever since Hiccup figured out it were his soulmate’s first words to him that he could hear inside his head, he’s been trying to figure out what they’ve been saying.
Soulmates know they’ve found one another when the first words they speak directly to each other matches the ones they’ve been hearing in the backs of their minds for their entire lives. They’re literally referred to as; The First Spoken Words.
Unfortunately for Hiccup, he hasn’t been able to figure out what his mean. He’s tried to look into sagas, requested book after book from Trader Johann, talked with seafaring merchants that have come from far off places and dared to sail up to the Barbaric Archipelago despite the Dragon Scourge.
None of them have been able to tell him anything so far, not even the language he’s hearing.
In a bout of anger, he throws another book at the wall. It lands on his desk, causing some of his pencils and papers to fall to the ground. It makes quite a bit of noise in his quiet house, but he finds himself unable to care. He’s home alone, his dad has left on another quest to find the Dragon’s Nest.
Sitting on his bed, the 14-year-old, just shy of 15, pulls his blankets around himself. As if concealment will somehow hide him away from the world. As if it’ll somehow shield him from the apparent fact that he can’t even decipher his soulmate’s first words to him.
He doesn’t even know what language they’re spoken in. By now he knows English, French, Gaelic, Latin, bits and pieces of a few others… But none… none seem to match the things he’s been hearing for as long as he can remember.
The odd sounds that echo endlessly in his mind, begging to be solved. They’re just growls. Growls and what sounds like a screech. They make absolutely no sense to him. They sound so animalistic, he can’t hear a single word. He would almost think his soulmate a dragon if not for the fact that this was completely impossible.
Though how ironic would it be? The embarrassment of Berk’s soulmate, his soul’s life partner, can’t even be the right species. They can’t even be on the same side of a war that’s been going on for the past 300 years.
He feels so alone. In a tight knit village of only a little over a 100 people, there’s no where he truly belongs, no one who even wants to hold a normal conversation with him. Not unless it’s to talk about how he should change literally everything about himself before anyone would consider him worthy of “normal conversation.” No friends, his father is always as far away from him as he possibly can… In a place in which no one seems to want him, he thought he could at least have his soulmate with him.
Apparently, he thought wrong.
Still hiding away, wrapped in his blanket, he lies down. His heart aches as he’s plagued by his First Spoken Words, knowing he’s never going to find out who- or what- they belong to.

The Shape Of You - Elle Greenaway/Emily Prentiss
A/N: Part 4/5 for this year of @soulmateseptember .
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What the hell even is that?” “You see my point?” Elle asks with a laugh, Emily’s soft fingers tracing over the soul freckles making her smile. Emily pulls away slowly then turns her wrist. A perfectly shaped gun sits in the freckles and Elle laughs a little. “So I get a crown for Mommy’s Little Princess and you get something actually logical… great.” “You still found me.” “Yeah, thanks to JJ.” Elle murmurs and leans a little closer, wrapping an arm around Emily’s waist. “Not that I mind, I got my girl, that’s good enough for me.” They’ve talked about it before, but as they watch JJ with Alex it’s all the clearer that they were truly blessed to have such a sweet and understanding friend who seemed to be gifted with the ability to make sense of people’s soul freckles.

"Seriously, Virgil. I do not understand her odd obsession with hiding my things."
Virgil hummed in acknowledgment, tossing the watch that Polaris had dropped in his lap back to Logan. "I don't know either, dude. She's just playing."
"Well her 'playing' is going to make me late for class."
"Don't be dramatic, L. It's Friday, your class doesn't start for an hour, and you've never missed a class in your life. Even if you were late, one time won't ruin everything."
Frustration aside, Logan smiled as Virgil held his own bracelet above Polaris' head, lifting it slightly higher every time she jumped to grab it.
These moments were nice. These small, domestic moments that proved they were indeed soulmates, amatonormativity be damned.
As he watched Virgil play with the fox, his eyes landed on the crystal hanging from his neck.
"You're wearing rose quartz," Logan noted, teasingly, smiling as Virgil's blush shone through his foundation. "You have a date tonight, don't you?"
"Oh shut it…"
"Nonsense, I'm just curious. Remus isn't it?" He thought back to the week prior, when Virgil had come home at night multiple times only to immediately collapse onto the couch, mumbling about something that Remus had said to him that day.
Virgil rolled his eyes, putting his bracelet back on and pulling Polaris into his lap. "…Yeah."
"I imagine you're just as nervous as ever."
"Actually, I don't think I am," Virgil said,  laughing lightly when Logan looked at him doubtfully.
"Oh? Not that I'm unhappy for you, but that is unusual."
"Yeah well," He shrugged. "Remus isn't a serious person, I don't need to be nervous around him. It's like with you, ya know?"
Logan scoffed. "I absolutely do not know. I am a serious person. All the time. It's a very large part of my personality."
"Oh right, strictly serious Logan. Who was definitely not staring at Janus' tits in the library yesterday."
"I don’t-" He sputtered. "That is extremely unprofessional!"
"So you're saying you weren't staring?" Virgil raised an eyebrow, smirking when he didn't receive an answer. "That’s what I thought. You really just gotta ask him already, dude."
"You are mean, you know that?"
"But you love me~"
Logan didn't answer that either, simply rolling his eyes (and definitely not blushing) and walking into the kitchen. He pulled a glass down from the cabinet, smiling exasperatedly as he heard scratching on the lower cabinets to his left.
He looked down to see Polaris sitting there, her head tilted to the left.
"What?" Logan asked lightly, crouching down to her level. "Care to steal something else from me?"
"She wants a pupcake," Virgil called from the living room. "Patton dropped some stuff off last night, I think they're on top of the fridge."
"Like 2AM, I think. Could you grab me a soda while you're in there?"
"Patton was here last night?" Logan pulled a box down from the fridge, verifying the label before pulling one of the small cakes out, tossing it to the fox that was now jumping at his legs. "I didn't see them, were they here particularly late?"

Logan frowned, grabbing the drink anyway. He threw it to Virgil as he sat on the couch next to him. "You really should get more sleep, you know."
"And you should really get some bitches, yet here you are, pining over a philosophy major. Speaking of which actually I need a favour."
"I-" Logan's jaw dropped, his hand pausing where he had been adjusting his glasses. "Why on earth would I help you after that comment?"
''Because you love me, we just talked about this. Now wait here!" Rushing, Virgil stood quickly, running down the hall where Logan heard him go into his room.
Still in shock, Logan looked over at Polaris, who seemed to be laughing. Hiding her face behind her paws as she ducked her head.
"You are never on my side, you know that?" Logan scoffed, rolling his eyes when Polaris jumped up onto the couch and softly hit her head on his arm.
The two sat there for a moment, before a large crash sounded from the hallway. Almost immediately Virgil stumbled back into the living room, obviously struggling to see around the pile of fabric in his arms. To Logan's surprise, he managed to make it around the chair nearest to the hall, dropping the fabric on the coffee table in front of the couch.
"Virgil I don't-"
"I know you don't do fashion or whatever but one of us," He pointed to himself exaggeratedly. "Is colourblind, and I have a date so please just tell me which of these shirts goes with the skirt. Be objective or whatever, I don't care."
Logan's eyes flickered down to Virgil's hands, which were now shaking. "I thought you weren't nervous." He said softly.
"I'm not!" Virgil stressed, sighing when Logan looked unconvinced. "Lo I just... I really like him, okay ? And maybe I'll look really stupid and he'll be all 'God why would I wanna be seen with this asshole' and then I'll die or something so please just help me?"
Holding his hands up, Logan stood and walked over to the table. "Alright, I'll help." He shuffled through the pile, looking for a specific top, before pulling out a deep purple halter top. He held it out to the other, speaking quietly as to not overwhelm Virgil any further.
"This one will make your hair look brighter. Wear some extravagant eyeliner with it. You'll look fine, dear."
Virgil ignored the shirt, choosing instead to throw his arms around Logan's shoulders, hiding his face in his chest. "Thanks Logan."
Surprised, Logan slowly hugged him back. "Of course, Vee."
The two pulled back after a moment, and Virgil looked at the clock on the bookshelf across the room. "Oh shit, you gotta go. Here, I'll get your book."
He walked over to the shelf, slowly scanning through the books.
"You know..." Virgil said, "I heard Remus mention super subtly that Janus is gonna be in the library alone tonight."
"And by subtly you mean-"
"You do not want to know what I mean."
Logan hummed. "Understood. Well perhaps I could stop by after class."
"Promise you won't chicken out?"
"I promise I'll do my best."
That seemed to appease Virgil, who smiled and handed Logan his book off the shelf. "Have fun at class, nerd."
Rolling his eyes, Logan moved his hand as to take the book, grabbing Virgil's hand at the last second. "Thank you, dear."
He smirked proudly at Virgil's immediate blush, watching him stutter. At their feet, Polaris looked between the two of them happily.
"Love you... or whatever."
"I love you 'or whatever' too, Virgil."
Virgil breathed deeply, dropping his head down on Logan's shoulder before mumbling.
"You're still a huge coward, though."
"Oh, says you."

Soultember Prompt 4: Fun Holidays, Handwriting day Jan 23ed
Fandom: The Dragon Prince
Summary: When your soulmate writes on themself it appears on your skin too. Soren likes writing his soulmate and Corvus sort of likes answering.
'Heyyyyyy' Soren wrote on his arm, 'how are you?'
Corvus looked down at his arm, feeling a slight tingle in it. It was his soulmate. He always felt his soulmate was a little too silly for him. He was so serious and quiet but they were funny and energetic.
Soren checked his arm throughout the day, waiting for his soulmate to respond. 'Hello????' He wrote impatiently.
    A tingle, 'hello.'
    'Oh hi! How are you?'
    'Fine, how are you?'
'I'm good!' Soren fawned over his soulmate's handwriting. It was so clear and neat.
Corvus sighed at his. He wondered what fate could have in store for two people who clearly seemed to be opposites. When he talked to Gren about it he said 'opposites attract.' It was the most, least helpful piece of advice he could have given him.
Grabbing a cloth Corvus dipped it in water. He gently ran the damp cloth over his arm and dried it off. Sitting on his bed, he put water back on the floor.
As the lines smeared, Soren took a cloth from the table. He couldn't find any water so he tried to just use the fabric to get rid of the ink. Placing the cloth of his skin he roughly pushed the cloth into his skin, trying to keep the smudging at a minimum.
    'Take your time.'
Soren Smiled. He drew a little happy face and put the pen down. Leaving his room, he set off to get some water.
Gren walked into Corvus's quarters. "What are you up too?"
"My soulmate wrote. He sure likes to."
"I think he'll be good for you" Gren smiled and walked over to the bed. "Someone has to get you out of your shell."
    Corvus ignored the commander's comment.
"What do you know about him?"
"Not much, we can't share our names. He's in the crown guard of Katolis."
"See, you already have something in common! You're both in the Katolis military!"
    "I suppose we are."
Soren walked right into Callum as he rubbed the drying ink off his arm. "Hey step-prince!"
    "Oh, hey Soren."
Callum looked at Soren's arm, "writing your soulmate?"
    "Yep!"
    "How's it going?"
"Good! He actually wrote back for once!"
"Have fun with that. Tell them I said hi."
    "Will do, step prince."
Soren rushed off to his room where he could continue talking to his mystery person. 'Im back!'
Gren grabbed Corvus's arm, "what did he say?"
"I'm, not sure." He drew a question mark next to the illegible words
The guard chuckled then wrote slower. "I'm back." He spoke to himself.
    Corvus smiled. 'I see that.'
The two wrote for a little longer before someone walked into the tracker's quarters, "both of you are needed by General Amaya."
"Okay. Tell her we'll be right there." Gren got up, "let him know that we need to go."
Corvus quickly but neatly wrote that he had to go. He pulled his sleeve down, leaving the ink there. Most of it had dried.
The guard took his chance. He pulled his pen out and started to trace what his soulmate had said. Each stroke was placed with deliverance.
Though the meeting Corvus had a hard time concentrating; the tingling feeling from his soulmate writing in his arm almost worried him.  It felt like it was always the same thing in the same place.
As soon as the meeting was over, Corvus, followed by Gren, walked back to his quarters. He threw the door open pulling his sleeve up. There was, nothing new?
The tingling was still there. He had to be okay. Gren handed him the wet rag and he quickly scrubbed the ink off. But nothing changed.
Soren felt a change. He grabbed the rag by his bed and cleaned his arm off.
'Are you okay?' This time it was Soren who drew the question marks.
    'Are you okay?'
    'Yeah why?'
'You were just writing a lot. What did you write?' Corvus sighed and turned to Gren, "he's okay."
    "That's good."
'I was tracing your words. I like your handwriting and want to have better handwriting so you don't have to draw so many question marks '
Corvus smiled. 'Thats sweet.' His stomach filled with butterflies.
    'Awww thanks!'
Gren sat down next to Corvus, handing him a rag so he could clean off his arm. He took the cloth and rubbed it on his arm.
'Im going to go train for a little bit. I'll write to you later!" Soren rubbed everything but that off.
    'Okay.' Corvus laid down.
"I told you it would be okay."
    "You were right."

I'll tell you my sins, and you can sharpen your knife//Offer me that deathless death, oh, good God, let me give you my life – Valak (The Nun)/Tiffany Valentine.
A/N: Very mild mention of character death but mostly just fluffy nonsense for the final prompt from @soulmateseptember.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First words. Everyone has them on their body, usually at their wrists. The first words their lover, their soulmate, will say to them. Valak doubts she can be so gifted, choosing this form, this new form, is a freedom only recently achieved but it’s this form the words indicate she will wear. Tiffany’s own have been etched deeper into the skin by the times she’s suffered through others. It never works, never helps. She wants nothing more than the freedom of finding the one she’s supposed to be with now. They meet completely by accident. The words are rough, Valak’s voice is rough, deep, husky, a threat that doesn’t frighten Tiffany and instead makes her eyes water. She’s speechless as the words burn her mark. “You should not trust me, little one…” “I still do…. My Nun.” Valak snarls just slightly at the burning of the mark, sizing up this woman, this headstrong woman who’s eyes speak of so much pain, then she hears it, the man who pushed into this sanctuary for women. Snarls break free again and Valak pulls Tiffany behind her quick as blinking, stalking closer to sink her teeth into the man, ripping his body apart even as she drank his soul deeper. A demonic force she may be, but something had chosen to give her this woman and she has no intention to leave her behind. Much much later she will listen as Tiffany’s woes and sins spill from her, her smirk turning up, revealing sharp teeth until she’s drawn to lean into the other woman, the slow brush of lips against lips dragging a ragged sound from Tiffany that is answered with a slight chuckle. “My little sinner…” Valak murmurs. “We will have such fun together.”

Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Darcy Lewis, Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers, Jane Foster/Thor Characters: Darcy Lewis, James "Bucky" Barnes, Steve Rogers, Jane Foster (Marvel), Peggy Carter, Thor, Natasha Romanoff, Sam Wilson (Marvel) Additional Tags: WinterShock - Freeform, Alternate Universe – Soulmates, Soulmate-Identifying Marks, perfectly ordinary time travel, Jetlag, Minor Natasha Romanov/Sam Wilson (Marvel), Minor Clint Barton/Laura Barton, Minor Sharon Carter/Maria Hill Series: Part 72 of Bingo Bonanza, Part 13 of Soul to Soul Summary:
Darcy had never believed that soulmarks were the be-all and end-all of relationships, so when she met Ian Boothby she was delighted to find that he held similar views and allowed herself to quickly fall in love with him. Going to Nepal (or is it Tibet?) for an isolated spiritual retreat where there was no chance of meeting their actual soulmates (they were both late December) really appealed to her. Except—of course—Ian meets his soulmate and has a complete change of mind, leaving Darcy to find her way home at the busiest time of the year.

"What if they don't like me, Dee?"
"Then they probably have less critical thinking skills than Remus, dear. And someone like that is definitely not worth your time."
Virgil's answering laugh was proof enough that he was at least starting to calm down, but his eyes still kept flickering between his wrist, still nameless, and the clock, counting down the minutes until his birthday.
"Virgil, eyes on me." Deceit gently grabbed Virgil's left hand, holding it in both of their own. "You're alright. I'm right here."
Virgil just took a shaky breath, leaning his head against the other's shoulder. Deceit tilted their head in sympathy.
"What exactly are you afraid of?" They questioned. "I assumed this sort of predetermined thing would soothe your worries."
"I just…" His grip on Deceit's hand tightened. "What if it's one of them? " Then they're either gonna hate me or I'll have to go up there and then I'll lose you and-"
"Virgil." Deceit cut him off, squeezing his hand back just as tight. "You will never lose me. I don't care where you go. I won't care if you end up making cakes with Morality . You are my family, whether you like it or not."
They felt Virgil start shaking against their shoulder, and their eyes widened, until they heard the laughing. It was muffled by occasional cries, but laughing nonetheless.
"Cakes? Really? Thought you still had some kinda faith in me."
Deceit smiled, one of their hands landing in Virgil's hair. He was handling this entire situation very well, all things considered. He's only lost control of his breathing once or twice, and there's only a few minutes left until a name will appear on his wrist. Remus called them 'fated'. A bit dramatic, in Deceit's opinion, though it made sense. Someone supposedly so perfect for you that nothing could change it. Remus had talked about his fated for weeks after his birthday the year before. (Deceit still held a bit of worry for whoever that 'Logan' turned out to be.)
Deceit's hand stilled in Virgil's hair as they glanced at the alarm clock on the anxious side's bedside table.
"V," They spoke quietly, watching Virgil as he slowly sat up straight. "3 minutes. I need to know now, do you want me to leave? Or do you want me to be here?"
There was no answer at first, and Virgil stared at his own hands, rocking in place where he sat on his bed.
"I won't be upset either way, Spider. Whatever makes you feel most safe, I will provide."
That seemed to calm Virgil enough, as he sighed and looked back up at the other.
"Can you... Can you go? I just- No matter what it says I'm gonna freak and I just want a few minutes to like... Process. I guess."
"Whatever you need." Deceit squeezed Virgil's hand one more time before standing up and walking towards the door. Before they closed it they looked at Virgil, who was now sitting up against the wall in the corner of his bed, staring at his hand.
"If you need me…"
"I know where to find you, Scales." He smiled, and Deceit closed the door fully, leaning back against it and sighing.
For a moment they hesitated, before carefully pulling the glove off of their left hand, and smiled bittersweetly at the writing scrawled on their wrist:
Virgil
They pulled the glove back on, and after one look back at the door, they walked away.
It was better this way.
