hiii joseph. If this is annoying or a bother, please tell me to stfu, but I was wondering if you have any tips for drawing blood? I know you've done it on a couple of your edits and it always looks so good, and I'm in a position now where I need to for an edit, and I have no idea where to start. Thanks!! 💖

so firstly when drawing blood u have to consider three things:

how much blood is there/where did the blood come from

how long has the blood been there/has it been smudged or altered in some way

what material is the blood currently on

the answer to these questions informs how the blood is going to look. a fresh arterial spray on skin and clothes is going to look a LOT different than a pool of it thats been on a hardwood floor for a few hours/days. i would recommend looking up references if u have the stomach for it but if not u can still watch like shows/movies so its not actually for real. if thats still too much then idk u dont have any business trying to make a bloody edit at all sorry SFDGHJK. google images will do u a world of good but uhhhh im gonna be real i have a login to a website that stockpiles real crime scene photos for forensic and crime (??) students which i usually head to but im not comfortable sharing that LMAO. i swear google images is still fine though

i usually just copy almost exactly what im seeing on the screen so the method varies a lot but its mostly various shades of dull red drawn on several multiply layers. erasing using a low opacity brush helps for like ?? layering?? blood doesn't dry uniformly, some parts will be darker than others etc. in a lot of lightings blood will just look straight up black. if thats the case i usually manually add a bit of solid red to act like a highlight. also u dont have to get too precise with it a bit of a suggested smudge can go a long way

Happy Friday the 13th! If your OCs were in a piece of horror media (video game/book/movie), what roles would they play? Who would die first? Who would make it to the end? What kind of horror media would they be in? (slasher film, psychological horror, zombie apocalypse, etc.)

RIP i'm answering this late, but it's still spooky season so it's fine :') i actually put a lot of thought into how everyone would fit into horror tropes when i was making the until dawn AU and the zombie apocalypse AU i've been cooking in my brain for like 5 years lmao. as the horror genre has evolved, tropes keep getting subverted or parodied, so they're less defined (which is a good thing imo) but these were my thoughts:

ASA: weird kid who says unsettling things which no one wants to believe. because of him, no one is sure if the genre is psychological thriller (all in his head) or supernatural horror, until everything is revealed at the end and they find out he was right all along. he has the strongest connection to the paranormal and is scared the least often. (ex: cole sear from the sixth sense)

STEVIE: positioned as the fool / comic relief, but she quickly gets wrapped up in the horror elements because she's always down to do something spooky for the bit (until it's not a bit anymore). her true personality only comes out when her life is on the line and she can no longer hide behind jokes. she'll scrape through til the end, but she'll never really be the same. (ex: richie tozier from it)

ELAINE: simultaneously filling the role of "the virgin" and "the whore", elaine is the first to be killed or injured, the catalyst for action, the turning point. she'll probably die in some sort of dramatic irony, where the audience knows she's doomed, but elaine remains naive and optimistic until the bitter end. she never deserved what happened to her, but people online will continue to debate her morality for years and years, because as we all know... teenage girls are irredeemably evil. (ex: jackie taylor from yellowjackets or nancy wheeler from stranger things)

JADA: underestimated and overshadowed by the rest of the cast in the beginning, she stays out of the action for the longest period of time before eventually getting roped in. but once she's in it, she's IN IT. she's the unlikely final girl, willing to do absolutely anything to survive. she turns into someone (or something...) she never wanted to become. (ex: needy lesnicki from jennifer's body)

FINN: he's been living in a horror movie for as long as he can remember, so when shit starts going down, he should be able to keep a cool head, right? except his weak spots are easier to find than he would like to admit. his unstable emotions make him easy to manipulate, but hard to control, while his survival skills and fighting ability make him the first person you would want to come to your defense in a horror movie. (ex: dean winchester from supernatural)

hi seph! I hope you're doing well! I have a question. How do you get the lighting in your edits to be so damn good? I mean, before you edit them. I always want to take in-game pics for edits, but the lighting is always so abysmal. Do you have any tips or tricks for getting a good lighting set up? Thanks for answering!!

(P.S. - I think you were sick at the time, so idk if you saw it, but I did your telephone cas challenge a bit ago. If you haven't seen it.)

HI sorry that this has been sitting in my ask box for like two months i just never had the opportunity/memory to actually address it fghjk but ok here goes it's really simple imo?

im presuming we're talking about plain background edits for this, although the general uh method for this is the same regardless of having a "set" or not. firstly i use these backgrounds, i've used them in most of my ingame edits here here and here, combined with the lights in this set which i use in all my ingame edits pretty much

make a big empty room, and line the walls that will be in the direction of the camera with the backdrops. i usually use only one or two of the lights (and shrink them down so the mesh itself is less intrusive) to light the scene because underexposed images are wayyy easier to edit then over exposed images. less is more- in this case i literally only used the one. not too close to the sim either or you're liable to wash them out entirely

i think an important thing to keep in mind is where the angle of light is coming from? straight on can make your images look flat, from directly behind and you can't see a thing. i usually do one to the side of the sim and (if i want more light) one slightly behind but sort of far away. u can change the colours of the lights themselves too to make it more expressive i tend to stay away from greens and oranges because i find those more difficult to edit

i went hunting in my screenshots folder for examples of this general idea, sorry you really can't see the lighting i used but its pretty much what i just said hgjkl again its better underexposed then overexposed. also zoom in the camera by the scrollwheel and use the keys to back away from the shot to make them look nicer too

Hi Brandi! I absolutely adore your Until Dawn edit. I just wanted to ask if it's meaningful that Finn has a relationship with Austin? Does he also have abilities like Asa and Jada? And why is it shown that he has none with Stevie and she has none with him? Unlike the others, she actually knows about his existence, plus they're actually talked! (Kind of.)

Basically, my question is if any of this is actually relevant to your story, or if it's just for the purpose of the edit. (I know it's probably spoilers, so if all you can respond with is silence, that's fine! I just like pointing things out, lmao.)

oh you know what, i mean to write this in the tags but forgot!! pretty much all of the baseline stats can also apply to the real frozen pines story, except for finn's relationship stats. if you'll notice, he's the only one who doesn't have the white lines to indicate a baseline – because he's the only one who didn't know the rest of the group before this very night. so all of his stats are only for the purpose of the AU. he has a strong relationship with asa because he's the only one who actually talks to him and isn't scared of him. he has a small relationship with jada, alisa, and austin, because those are the people he interacted with long enough to save their lives (possibly). so that's just for the AU!

if we were to see finn's stats in the canon story they would probably look like this:

red with jada not because he dislikes her, but because he can hardly stand to look at her without the guilt of killing her mom eating him alive. red with matt because he broke stevie's heart 😔 he's never communicated with elaine, austin, matt, or alisa, so those are just based on vibes and how close they are to asa (though he's been gone so long he hasn't even seen alisa & doesn't know stevie and matt broke up, but this is just for funsies). as for the personality stats, if we consider the white baseline to be where finn was at when he died: i think asa has made finn a more honest and charitable person because he doesn't have to keep his guard up all the time. and of course he's more romantic :P he's less curious because he really doesn't want to know anything about his own death or about his parallel lives, no matter how interested asa is in both topics.

OK i will give you some lore about moonwood mill + forgotten hollow…

so there’s already the conflict between werewolves and vampires (and i believe spellcasters are on the side of werewolves? if my lore is lore-ing lmao)… the coven i posted yesterday actually lives in forgotten hollow and sides with the vampires! i plan to make a coven in moonwood mill that works with the werewolves… and these two covens do not get along AT ALL!

the two covens understanding of necromancy varies heavily bc of the key beliefs between them - the forgotten hollow coven is not very knowledgeable about resurrection and this leads to the dead coming back as zombies… as opposed to the moonwood mill coven perfecting resurrection magic, who bring the dead back as skeletons. this is also due to the fact that the witches in forgotten hollow believe that a zombie is more “human” than a skeleton, though zombies lose all their memories and are very often just husks.
