The works, which center around community concerns, reflect universal values of #love, #justice, #equality and #peace, and aim to build bridges across borders, languages and cultures, and to generate a dialogue about issues that are relevant at both the local and global level.

Works from the series have been exhibited internationally and have been published in select international publications.

The exhibition is on view at the Morris-Jumel Mansion during public hours from April 15 - June 12, 2022 and can be visited during the museum’s public hours, Friday to Sunday from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Located on Sylvan Terrace in Washington Height Manhattan’s oldest house the Morris-Jumel Mansion built in 1765 by Colonel Roger Morris and his spouse Mary Philipse. Their property was about 135 acres from the Harlem River to the Hudson. When the colonist rebelled and started the Revolutionary War, the good Colonel got himself to England, the Mrs. Headed up the Husdon River with her mum and dad. In 1776 for a brief spell the Mansion served as General Washington’s headquarters, with its prime location in second highest spot on Manhattan Island that provided view of New Jersey, Conneticut and the New York Harbor the good general was able to secure his first victory of the war, the Battle of Harlem Heights. Short lived the continental army had to retreat to White Plain and the rest of the war, just like the small city at the island’s tip aka New York the mansion served as a headquarters for the British and Hessians. Post Revolutionary War, New York confiscated the property and home as recompense for war debts. The mansion became a Tavern for another spell and in 1790 President Washington held his first Cabinet dinner in the same place he had won his first victory over the Red Coats. Oldest house remaining in Manhattan! From @bigcitybrant - # 89 of 111 (75/111 in book) — Morris-Jumel Mansion — Manhattan’s oldest house sits on top of “Sugar Hill,” at the highest point in Manhattan. It was originally built in 1765 for British Colonel, Roger Morris, but he and his wife fled the home when the Revolutionary War was under way. George Washington moved in with his patriots and made the home their headquarters for a short while during the war. The excellent views from Mount Morris made this the ideal place for Washington to lead his troops into the Battle of Harlem Heights. In 1810, affluent French aristocrat, Stephen Jumel bought the mansion. After Jumel died, his wife Eliza took over the estate and lived there until she died. The Morris-Jumel Mansion still stands today, and is used frequently for jazz concerts, educational classes, festivals, and banquets. Tonight our friends at @inwoodartworks are premiering an amazing new FREE series of outdoor musical film screenings at @morrisjumel Mansion. Tonight is “Stormy Weather” from 1943. If you’re not familiar with Morris-Jumel, it’s the oldest house in Manhattan, and was at one time the home of George Washington. Situated on a private park, it’s a lovely part of the island, and the perfect venue for an outdoor series. Non-profit Inwood Art Works is presenting this series as part of their Film Works Alfresco series. Last year, KHLOARIS produced a fun promo for the organization, which we’re premiering on Instagram right here! The piece was directed and produced by Kenneth Filmer and Nouri Zander, has original art by David Grace @ewokcelebration , was animated by Nouri Zander, and was conceived and scored by Kenneth Filmer.
