Reylo week day 4- AU//Fae
@hobbitbabe requested a moth/butterfly reylo fic// this one was a little challenging for me but oh boi it unlocked something super creative in me so thank you for the request! I got some inspiration for this as well from this fanart right here. And this one as well. And this. This might not be exactly what you were looking for but I hope it's okay! Here's my moth/butterfly fae AU
Since Rey was a little girl she would dream of another world filled with the brightest colors she's ever seen. Growing up on Jakku, she had never known anything other than the desert sands of her world, but at night when she was asleep she would dream of a place where the grass was tall and flowers bloomed. She would imagine herself laying on a lush flowerbed filled with pinks and purples and that was when the butterflies would come to greet her. She could feel their wings flutter against her freckled skin, as if they were giving kisses to her nose and her cheeks and her lips. There was so much brightness and serenity in these dreams that when she awoke, she could feel the life draining from her colorful fantasy. Her dreamland became her favorite place to be, until one day the dreams stopped. The butterflies no longer visited her and her fantasies were replaced with darkness, of the force calling to her and beckoning her to take a stand against evil. For the first time in her life Rey began to have nightmares, sometimes about her parents, sometimes about Kylo Ren. The butterflies were gone. But she had hope that they would return. One day.
///
When Ben met his fate on Exegol, the last thoughts he had were of Rey, of how she was the last glimpse of light he saw before he plunged into darkness. When the cold silence consumed him and he felt no more, he found himself in a place he had never been before. It was another realm entirely where time stopped, voices seemed to echo from nowhere, and everything was dark. And he saw her there, not as she had once been in life, not in a mortal form, but he knew it was her. Hands out stretch towards the creature, his eyes watching the fragile brown wings beating cautiously as it drew nearer to him as if he radiated light. The moth lands in his palm and he fights the urge to curl his fingertips around the insect, wanting to pull her closer. This was just a fragment of her, a promise that they would one day meet again, a sign they were still connected through the force. Even if he was in another world entirely, she would find him again. For now he would settle for the company of the winged creature.
///
The first night after Ben was gone, Rey did not sleep. She could not bring herself to drift off even as her head hit the pillow. Thoughts of him plagued her, thoughts of what could have been, of a life they could have shared together. It was well into the next morning when she finally started to drift off, the sunlight bathing her in its golden rays- and somehow she found that more peaceful than the dark silence of the night. As she slept, she found herself in the familiar dreamland of her youth, feeling her bare feet against the wet grass for the first time in years. She sat in her favorite spot by the running stream, dipping her fingers into the cold water. It was just how she remembered it, the lush green trees, the warm breeze blowing through her brown hair, isolated and secret and just for her. But there was something missing. She couldn't quite place it, everything else seemed absolutely perfect. What was missing? And then she feels it, the soft flutter of wings against her freckled shoulders, the slight tickle that felt like hundreds of kisses. And then something new happens, something that never happened before. They whisper her name.
"Rey, I've found you again. Rey, it's me."
She knew immediately who the voice belonged to and she spun on her heels to search the clearing for him. "Ben?" But he wasn't there. "Ben where are you? I hear you."
"I'm here with you Rey-"
"Where? I can't see you!"
"Open your eyes."
Rey fought to obey his command, struggling to shake off the deep sleep that had overcome her. Slowly, the clearing began to fade from view and all she could see was darkness. "Rey, open your eyes."
Her hazel eyes snap open and she is greeted with more darkness. The voice was gone and she was seemingly alone now, cloaked in the deafening silence. She makes a move to stand up but is bewildered when she feels her body weighed down by something heavy. Reaching behind herself, her fingers come in contact with something soft, something that seemed to be connected to her. Wings. Her eyes go wide and she feels herself stretch the new extension of her body, marveling in the sensation.
"You're beautiful, Rey."
This time when she turns around, she sees him. His handsome face, the expression of awe he always wore in her presence etched into his features. For a moment she is so lost in his brilliant brown eyes that she doesn't see the large, marvelous blue wings that sprouted from his back. "Ben...where are we? What are we?"
He laughs, the same genuine chuckle that had left his lips after she had kissed him on Exegol. "I don't know," he answers honestly, taking a graceful step towards her. "But we're together. We can be together here and that's all that matters."
Rey finds herself drawing nearer to him, mesmerized by him. He was the only light in this darkness. Ben's hands reach out for her and the moment they touch she feels electricity run through her, the force rushing through them both. They were one once again. The man's fingers brush through her hair and only then does she notice the feathery antennae perched upon both of their heads. "I will always be with you. Whenever you need me, just come to this place and I will be here," he whispers, bending down to press a kiss to her cheek. "Don't be afraid to be without me, Rey. I'm not really gone." His words prompt her to pull him closer, desperate to keep him from fading away again. But as scared as she is of losing him, she also knows his words are true. All she had to do was will him to be with her and he would be there beside her.
Rey wakes to the sound of BB-8 chirping cheerfully, the sunlight blinding her when she opens her eyes. She was back in her bed, alone again but more hopeful than the previous night. As she rolls out of bed, preparing herself for the day, her eyes land on a small blue butterfly perched on her windowsill. She smiles. She was not alone. Ben was always with her.

This is my first Mothlo fic. Please, mind the tags.
After the way TROS treated Rey and the fans for that matter, I wanted to write about letting people, especially women, chose for themselves what they want. But no subject ever felt appropriate enough to convey what I wanted to say...
Until I met Mothlo!
Because some of us want the monster. Why? Because the monster doesn’t lie; their “flaws” are openly displayed in front of you. And this honesty is why I like them so much.
It was surprisingly cathartic to write and I'm super proud! Let me know what you guys think:
