I like Jacobs boyfriend, but I'm starting to think Jacob and Morton would be the perfect enemies-to-lovers OTP.

I did read Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler (really good book by the way y’all should read it) and here were some of my takeaways from this episode:
1) Barbara mentioning faith. Lauren (the protagonist) has her own religion she follows, one that is decidedly not Christian (though definitely inspired by Christianity). And while she clings to that faith in the book, she’s actually really embarrassed about it. It’s not until closer to the end of the book that she’s actually comfortable telling people about it. Very different from Christianity, many branches of which make conversion their mission.
2) Melissa acting like societal collapse is a good thing when in that book people literally lose their homes and die in brutal ways. Which is brought up multiple times by other characters as… questionable, but when you’ve read the book that statement is further emphasized
3) “too much feminist rhetoric”, both because it’s from Morton and because it’s very subtle in the book (though also very present)
4) Like Shanae said, the fact that they focused on finding a leader when Lauren didn’t want to be a leader in the first place and kind of just… became one? Luckily though Lauren has multiple supports and I love her little family, which we clearly can’t say the same about some of these Abbott staff lol
But I love that Ava is a reader! I’ve always kind of headcanoned that she was secretly a nerd all along and I love seeing that come to fruition, especially with the chaos of the episode.

Miss Collins: I think you should tell Carrie about the birds and the bees.
Mr Morton: They're disappearing at an alarming rate.

For many years, the Hardy family got all of their insurance from the insurer Mr Morton worked for. After watching Frank and Joe backflipping off the roof of his house into a large pile of dead leaves, Mr Morton said they would probably get insurance cheaper from someone who had not met their sons.

I see you, Abbot Elementary. Having Mr. Morton show up in-person for the very first time this entire season and immediately establish that 1) Morton's Hershey Park marriage is in the process of ending AND 2) Morton's very existence still pushes Jacob's buttons like nothing else.
I've read enough "enemies-to-lovers" fanfiction to know exactly where this is going. And I want to say that I am delighted and that I called this from Morton's very first episode.

presenting my Abbott Elementary alignment chart that absolutely no one asked for.
My rule of thumb for alignment is: Lawful = Thrives with rules; Chaotic = Thrives with freedom; Good = Selfless; Evil = Selfish. It's fine if you disagree with these!
