Icarus, A Nightly Performance
"My body is obtainable if you can afford me. If you have to buy my body well, you couldn't afford my mind. The thoughts that make me care for someone can't be bought. When I go home you're just not the type of man I think of or care for. But... when you go home... to your family... you just can't seem to forget me. And that's okay, you can buy that loneliness away. But guy's like you think if you're twinkish enough and you keep coming back with lipgloss on, I'll fall for you. Give up."
"You can afford a night with me sure, but can you afford a routine? If you buy this night with me I'll have you hooked for a lifetime."
"Ray, detective. Detective. Detective Ray... Don't call you detective when we're both 'in the raw'? Okay detective."
"Don't be down my fagly friend! You're plenty desirable."
"I usually stay out of lovers quarrels but I can see you're hurting. Cut him off like dead hair. He's mediocre in bed and worse in personality. And he paid me to be enthusiastic about him, which I am. Thats why I said mediocre and not pathetic. Upgrade from that hoe and stop chasing men who continuously cheat on you with hookers."
i had a lot of fun drawing this one. I ended up moving from procreate to ibis for coloring so have a speedpaint!
also thoughts about my art are appreciated. along with reblogs and asks/questions about icarus! the more specific the better

Rewrite the Stars
Tumblr media
Nevermind, I got it, crisis averted Warnings: none! WC: 0.9 k Sirius Orion Black was many things. A rumored playboy, a socialite, and an elite member of society, he had people tripping over themselves to be caught in the same room as him. He was the prince of princes in high society, a well-known name, and good looks to boot, not to mention the boy was a brilliant businessman and was the pride of his parent’s strict expectations. He’d gone to a bar after a long night of socializing with people who wanted nothing more than to use his social standing for their own gain, for their own status, what he wasn’t expecting was to meet a man. That man was named James Potter, he said “You’re an incredible businessman, you’re an even better salesperson.” Sirius knew this, he couldn’t stand this sort of talk, so he’d responded casually with, “Look, James, was it? I appreciate the offer, but I don’t pick up peanuts. I admire your show, talent, and vigor, but I’m content with my life now.” And James had countered quickly, his mind coming up with a response faster than anybody in high society’s brains could even dream to work. “Are you content, or do you not know anything else, Mr. Black?”, and that stuck with him, but Sirius Black was as good a businessman as James Potter said he was, so they needed to reach a consensus, he wouldn’t offer his help for free. And a consensus they did reach.
It was a few days later when Sirius was introduced to his first show at the Circus, he stumbled around wildly, a bit overwhelmed by the colors and the sounds. He felt as if he could breathe and he’d inhale joy and life, sure it smelled of peanuts and sweat, but it was the most soul he’d seen in one place in a long while, the plays he produced were nothing short of bland in comparison to the majesty, and chaos of the circus. He remembered being introduced to different people and acts, each with a smile that they couldn’t help. He remembers hearing lilting voices and coy arguments, remembers seeing costumes and people doing run-throughs of their acts, he remembers it all. But Sirius Black could not forget the first time he saw you. You were in the air, a pleased smile on your face as you swung on the trapeze like it was easy, as if it weren’t something that would scare most grown men. He remembers making eye contact briefly as you swung high enough to see him standing next to James Potter, as your eyes burned holes into his soul, as the color of them suddenly became his new favorite color. He suddenly felt like Icarus, you were his Sun, he was enamored and he’d never spoken a word to you. He could have stayed up there watching you perform and smile and swing for as long as you went on, but that would look odd, for the son of high society to be in love with the girl on the trapeze of the up-and-coming circus, wouldn’t it? He’d stayed there with James for a few more minutes, to watch, to pretend like he was observing from a business perspective when in reality he was so hooked on your movements and smile there was nothing else to do. James escorted him back down behind the curtain with everybody else, and you appeared a few minutes later, James had called you over and your name was burned into Sirius’s mind, so he plastered on a flirtatious smile, shook your hand, did everything he figured was right. Your voice was as soft as a sunrise but as sure as the sun itself when you spoke and when you asked him, “So, Mr. Black, what’s your act?” and he had told you, “Well, I don’t have an act.”, and had blinked like a buffoon while doing so, looking a bit confused, he was so sure he looked pitiful. But you laughed, and it was so lovely he aspired to recreate the sound again, and you told him, “Everybody has an act, Mr. Black, maybe you just need to find yours out, hm?”
So he’d come back, so many days he’d lost count, he’d spoken to you more, and he’d figured that if anything he should go to see you. Sirius had adopted his role of businessman quite easily, and when he had found a way to introduce the circus to high society, you had seemed so excited knowing that otherwise you would never even be allowed to go. Your smile was contagious but you’d suddenly gone sullen and it struck his heart like a caged bird, you had seemed so pleased before what had happened? And when your voice came out of your mouth, sounding a little bit scared of the answer, when you’d asked if they were all permitted to go, he hadn’t properly thought it through, all he knew is that he needed to make sure that you stopped looking like that, that you stopped looking so hurt and scared when he’d responded, “Either we will all go, or none of us go, Love.” and with the admission of that out into the world, into the air, you had been spun around in a hug by one of your coworkers before you’d gone to him, hugging him tight and murmuring thank you’s.
If he was Icarus, he was infinitely sure that you were his Sun, his Star.

The Story of Icarus
A summary of the story of Icarus!
Greek Mythology
TW: Imprisonment, mentions of drowning and mentions of death.
Request for: @tarotbee
.
~The Legend of Icarus~
The legend of Icarus is a very famous story but only a very small amount of the story is wildly known.
Daedalus (Icarus’ father) was a very talented Athenian craftsman who build the infamous Labyrinth for King Minos of Crete near the kings palace at Knossos to imprison the Minotaur, a half-man, half-bull monster that was born of his wife and the Cretan bull.
Daedalus was imprisoned by Minos in the Labyrinth after giving Ariadne (Minos’ daughter) a clew (a ball of string) so that she could help Theseus, an enemy of Minos, to survive the Labyrinth and defeat the Minotaur.
To escape the Labyrinth, Daedalus managed to create two sets of wings for himself and his son, that were made of feathers glued together with wax. Daedalus tried his wings first and taught Icarus how to fly before warning his son to not fly too high, which would cause the wax to melt, nor too low, which would cause the feathers to get wet with sea water.
Too excited to fly, Icarus flew too close to the sun, resulting in the wings to melt, leaving Icarus to flap his wingless arms. This caused Icarus to fall into the sea, resulting in his death by drowning.
Daedalus wept for his son and called the nearest land Icaria, an island southwest of Samos, in memory of him. Today, the location of his burial on the island bears his name, the sea near Icaria in which he drowned is called the Icarian Sea and the island’s airport is named Icarus Airport.
.
~Medieval and Renaissance~
Icarus’ story has been interpreted by major writers including Chaucer, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Milton, and Joyce.
In the Orion Fountain at Messina, Icarus is one of many figures associated with water; but he is also shown on the Bankruptcy Court of the Amsterdam Town Hall – where he symbolizes high-flying ambition.
The 16th-century painting Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, was the inspiration for two of the 20th century's most notable English-language poems, "Musée des Beaux Arts" by W. H. Auden and "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" by William Carlos Williams.
Other English Poems referencing Icarus are "To a Friend Whose Work Has Come to Triumph" by Anne Sexton; "Icarus Again" by Alan Devenish; "Mrs Icarus" by Carol Ann Duffy; "Failing and Flying" by Jack Gilbert; "It Should Have Been Winter" by Nancy Chen Long; "Icarus Burning" and "Icarus Redux" by Hiromi Yoshida; and "Up like Icarus" by syllabic poet Mark Antony Owen.
The Norwegian Axel Jensen used Icarus as a metaphor for troubled modern young men, in the 1957 novel Icarus: A Young Man in Sahara.
.
~Modern~
There has been many studies on Icarus’ myth and there has been many interpretations.
In psychology, there have been studies of the Icarus complex (first used by Henry A. Murray to describe a particular type of overambitious character). Icarus complex symptoms in mania can be seen as being fond of heights, fascinated by both fire and water, narcissistic and observed with fantastical or far-fetched imaginary cognition.
Seth Godin's ‘The Icarus Deception’ points to the historical change in how Western culture both propagated and interpreted the Icarus myth arguing that "we tend to forget that Icarus was also warned not to fly too low, because seawater would ruin the lift in his wings. Flying too low is even more dangerous than flying too high, because it feels deceptively safe."
This myth is mostly known due to its coined term: “don't fly too close to the sun".

!! tjis ask is a permission to Please talk about the villains of dead air, do they hav athird act breakdown if so pls ... tell us abt it
YES... I WILL TELL U ABOUT 👉👈 SOME OF THEM!!!
Apollo: When the illusionist ‘trapped’ Eret, they tricked Apollo into destroying it. And they then got sent to the inbetween where they woke up in a castle and everyday had to choose between completely destroying the mirror ‘Eret’ was trapped in and being freed from the castle, or drink from a cup and forget until the evening. The only way he could extend his time was to trap people in his castle or convince someone else to destroy the mirror which would free ‘Eret’ (whereas if Apollo did it, it would keep Eret trapped in the mirror realm) So when Orion beats Apollo in the duel, he’s forced to free his friends but still begs Orion to destroy the mirror.
Static: they have,,, villain time :((( When they think that they were being used by Orion to find a way into the inbetween, this becomes apparent with (unintentionally) orion begins to push them aside after they’ve successfully pulled them into the in between to search for [REDACTED]. Mr.A kind of exploits this anxiety and fear when they get separated in The Mist (area thats run by Icarus) and mr. A makes it seem like their unwanted and that with his protection he’d never let any harm like what happened with the head scientist happen to them again if they just promised to help him. yeah but :(( yeah
The Gameshow Host: He traps Orion, Ricky, REDACTED, and Static in like a horror gameshow where he forces them to reveal some of their secrets to each other and play through multiple different game show eques scenes with Sofia (having revealed accidentally she was a journalist) being sat in the audience and giving the show a ‘rating’ to be published in her paper. Hes defeated when she realizes the one place in the entire studio that he doesnt want her to look and the place that is hardest to look at and hurts to look at is a ‘storage closet’ where she when she gets away from the audience she sees is full of monitors and realizes the host is a projection and destroys the monitors trapping him into one specific monitor.
Lucy: She’s Mr.As right hand, shes normally the face of the Unnamed Research facility. she typically goes around and delivers cryptic letters that lead to fucked up news stories, this typically happens when shes trying to divert news media attention from the Facility onto other places. While Mr. A is sitting in his shitty little mansion she’s running around trying to take care of ‘loose ends’ Eventually in Part 2 she gets like flung out of Mr.As office into like a fiery portal and :( yeah.
Head Scientist: I dislike :] the head scientist :]]]] a lot!!!!! Shes super responsible for a lot of the people who are now intertwined with the In Between and stuff. She just kind of likes her job??? She enjoys exploring the inner machinations of like humans and stuff. She kind of meets her end in Part 2 when, Static purposefully sabotages the machine that would’ve lead her directly into the In Between and as a result it implodes in on itself, its unclear what exactly happened when it imploded. but uh after that happened Mr.A kinda gets >:(((( at static and then :/// bad stuff happens 2 them

I WENT THROUGH MY SKETCHBOOKS AND CAUGHT EVERY PHOTO OF ICARUS HAHAHAH
its bad! i love it! he went through such a glow-up. And to think, months ago, i redrew him on a whim. a whim.
WHAT IN BOY BAND TARNATION. Also bonus, mostly inaccurate lore !
I want you to know that these were from when I first started drawing 3-4 years ago as a high school sophomore. I was bad at drawing, I knew it, my peers were better and wouldn't pay me much attention. I kept at it though, strictly for me. My drawings were an extension of me. Now Ive had artwork in galleries and shit. Never too late for you to start. and look! its not even that bad! and so what if it is, learn to like your own art okay? would have saved me a lot of self loathing
