I have to ask: Was Eleanora intentionally an inverse of Aurora or pure coincidence? I just realized today that she's got like 3 guardians in Divus, Poma, and Lilia, her curse is like the inverse of the curse Maleficent put around the castle (since the thorns grow inside her lungs), and rather than trying to kill her, Malleus is trying to save her from the curse. Either way, I only realized it when my brain went: drawing of Divus, Lilia, and Poma as the 3 good fairies.

I meannnn not… totally intentionally?

I might have mentioned this before, but the curse was mostly inspired by the spell in Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell where those who came into contact with the fae were unable to speak about it because an invisible rose in their mouth was silencing them. Though it has been pointed out to me that the curse functions a lot like Hanahaki Disease.

I was building up the plot as I went along, (I generally make things up as I go, lol, though I do make a lot of notes for stuff I want to happen) and by the time I thought of Maleficent and Ellis’ story that was when the real Aurora/Eleanora parallels began to happen. Lowkey I think she has some Cinderella parallels as well, especially with recent chapters and the upcoming ones.

Divus, Poma, and Lilia as the three good fairies is absolutely hilarious though and I love it. 🤣 Poma would be Flora, Lilia would be Fauna, and Divus would be Merriweather. He’d just wear black instead of blue.

“Horticulture and red wine were served up the other night at the Sill, a boutique on Hester Street, as Christopher Satch, a botanist wearing a T-shirt that read, “Plants Make People Happy,” the company motto, led a workshop on carnivorous plants.

It was plant stand-up — slightly blue patter with quick takes on Linnaeus and Darwin; binomial nomenclature (note the shape of the Venus fly trap for cues to how it got its name); detailed care instructions (carnivorous plants evolved in acidic bogs, which means they need distilled water, not tap, and lots of it); and a show-and-tell of Mr. Satch’s collection of butterworts and sundews.

Among the rapt attendees were Madison Steinberg and Lindsay Reisman, both 23 and working in public relations, and Brayan Poma, also 23, who works in construction; afterward they each took home an attractive tropical pitcher plant. “I like plants, but I kill so many of them,” said Mr. Poma, who wore a green hoodie and a goatee. “Maybe that’s why I find them so alluring.””

“I seriously don’t know what it is about Trey’s sweets. They’re so good. And I hate sweets. I blame magic. They’re totally magic sweets. Have you tried the coffee cake he made yet? I have some in the fridge- I’ll go grab you a piece! Oh, but I gotta save a slice for Mr. Horns. He’s supposed to be stopping by tonight. H-Huh? I-I’m not… smiling that widely. You’re imagining things. He’s just… helping me with my curse, that’s all. Plus we’re friends. He doesn’t have many. It’s nothing weird, promise! Sh-Shut up!”

“Cater wouldn’t stop taking photos… ugh. I don’t really like having my picture taken, but no~ I’m the birthday girl, so he has to take all the photos no matter what I’m doing. Eating? Photo. Laughing? Photo! Opening the presents? Photo! I just wanna eat my cinnamon rolls, man, stop posting my gross face all over Magicam. Did you know he made an account for me after Riddle’s Overblot? Apparently I have a “fanbase” now. I… don’t really like it. It feels weird. I’d rather put up with bullies.” 

“Ace made fun of me for crying again. It’s not like I want to cry. I’m just… I’m emotional, okay!? I never had friends like this before, o-or people who really cared about me so much! I can’t tell you how long it took before I accepted the fact that Ace and Deuce were truly my friends. Those goofballs are like little brothers to me. Hm? Yeah, they know. Ace makes fun of my “mushiness” while Deuce gets just as emotional as me.”

“Be honest; how do I look? I feel dapper, I think I look dapper- but do I look good in it? I love suits, I’ve just… never had the money to really wear one before. I prefer this to the Unbirthday party dress, actually. Do you think Mr. Horns would like- uh… n-nevermind. Forget I said that. Or mentioned him. I’m not blushing, shut up! Gah! Ya jerk…”

“What else don’t I like? Uh… vegetables, I guess. I mean, I’ll eat mushrooms but I just… I just don’t like them. They make me wanna vomit. It’s a whole thing. Hah? Ew, gross, don’t say I have anything in common with Leona- that asshole strangled me after I stepped on his tail! Half asleep or not, just because I’m a girl doesn’t change the fact that if I wasn’t he would have actually killed me. So we both don’t like vegetables- so what? I’m nothing like him… I think.”

“Lilia jumped scared me today. Didn’t really surprise me- I mean, it did surprise me, but him doing it didn’t. He gave me some really cute dragon slippers. Look at how goofy they are! I love them. They have the little forked tongue sticking out and everything. He said it’s too keep my feet warm since I tend to get sick a lot. He thinks it’ll help prevent anymore colds. He and Mr. Horns are such worrywarts. I adore them, though.”

“Silver acted as my bodyguard all day. He didn’t know what to get me- not that he had to get me anything; I mean, I’m pretty sure the only people I told my birthday to was Riddle and Mr. Horns, but here we are! Uh… what was I saying again? Right. He didn’t know what to get me, so he declared he’d just protect me for the day and carry all my stuff. It weirded Ace, Deuce, and Grim out since they didn’t know how I knew him. Haha… oh, I have so many things I have to tell them. Yikes. I don’t even know where to begin.”

“I think I did a good job acting obnoxious today. I had explicit instructions from Divus and Poma to act stupidly happy throughout the school day to raise moral. Moral as in “show the others there’s nothing to fear”. The school has been super tense ever since Riddle’s Overblot, and since I’m the one who saved him even after getting hit by a tree, they all thought today would be a good chance to change that. They’re my favorite staff members, so… I couldn’t really decline.” 

“Poma looked ready to kill Crowley earlier after he saw just how bad Ramshackle was. When I mentioned I fell through the floor- hooooh boi was a birdman about to be skinned. Well, no. Poma said he’d turn him into a flea and stuff him in several boxes and then smash him with… what was it? A hammer? It was pretty funny. I still wanna know what the relationship is between him and Crewel though. They seem super close. And who the heck is Selena?” 

“… I got clothes, I got art supplies, I got Trey snacks- overall, today was a super good day. I even got a birthday wish from Jack- who I met after I found Silver passed out and failed trying to piggyback him back to Diasomnia. Not a fun time. Asthma plus a curse that grows thorns in my lungs? Bah. Luckily Jack showed up though- man is STRONG. He carried us both to Diasomnia all on his own! It’s hard to believe he’s just a first-year. But he said hi and wished me happy birthday today. Makes me happy he remembered me.”

“There was this weird guy… I don’t remember his name- he had a blond bob and a hat? His face was practically sparkling, though; his skin was super clear. Uh… he tossed some random skin-care products at me, said something in what I think was French, and then walked off. Actually, did he even give me his name? He just kinda shouted congratulations and ran off. I wonder what that was about.” 

“I saw Jade again! I haven’t seen him since that one time in the hallway. He tried convincing me to go make a deal with Azul again. He’s kinda scary, actually. I do kinda want to try talking to Azul- not to make a deal, but, like, just to make friends with him? But… somehow I have this feeling that won’t be very easy. Pretty octopus man seems sort of shady.” 

“My relationship with Mr. Horns? Uh... I told you- he’s helping with my curse. Apparently I had a past life or something and they got cursed to repeatedly die young. It’s not fun having a rose in your mouth or thorns in your lungs, y’know. But, um... Mr. Horns burns them away when they’re about to kill me, and... we meet up sometimes to talk. “Horticulture and red wine were served up the other night at the Sill, a boutique on Hester Street, as Christopher Satch, a botanist wearing a T-shirt that read, “Plants Make People Happy,” the company motto, led a workshop on carnivorous plants.

It was plant stand-up — slightly blue patter with quick takes on Linnaeus and Darwin; binomial nomenclature (note the shape of the Venus fly trap for cues to how it got its name); detailed care instructions (carnivorous plants evolved in acidic bogs, which means they need distilled water, not tap, and lots of it); and a show-and-tell of Mr. Satch’s collection of butterworts and sundews.

Among the rapt attendees were Madison Steinberg and Lindsay Reisman, both 23 and working in public relations, and Brayan Poma, also 23, who works in construction; afterward they each took home an attractive tropical pitcher plant. “I like plants, but I kill so many of them,” said Mr. Poma, who wore a green hoodie and a goatee. “Maybe that’s why I find them so alluring.””
