FINALLY I managed to install minecraft on freebsd

the official launcher doesn't have a freebsd version, I can't login with microsoft on prism launcher, and the multimc package in the ports collection is an old version, I can't login on that one because it's from before the switch to microsoft accounts and it wants to connect to the old mojang servers

I had to compile the latest version of multimc, then get it to find lwjgl, but now It Works

its like i have a spidey sense about big game updates bc ive been getting minecraft urges but apparently 1.21 is out next week so there's like no point in me spending my now limited free time going through mod updates which i wasnt playing on the latest version anyways BUT part of the reason i wanted to play is the new wolves but my shaders arent updated for anything past 1.20.1 so i cant even go look at them.....

Anyway, yes, in case it wasn't obvious from the word Trio, this is the OT3 that is ENTIRELY Tea's fault. Literally came into my DMs while working on yet another multiMC verse like "So Zarad is catching feelings for Camyon. Y/N?" and because I am a fool who keeps letting Tea romcom my favorite daughter, I said yes. And now LOOK AT WHERE WE ARE.

Also, because Tea is a fucking genius, it even works in a way that they balance each other and help each other grow and I hate this for me.

so after the forced migration of mojang accounts to microsoft accounts (c. ...2019?), i (a person who never actually migrated my minecraft account to a mojang account, a thing that happened in 2012) decided to just start using a cracked launcher that ignored the account auth check

but as i recently discovered during a recent internet outage, skipping the auth check doesn't actually mean skipping all internet validation. apparently every time you launch a modpack from multimc (of which i am using the ultimmc fork) it polls some random meta files on multimc.net or w/e and errors out if it can't find them. i don't have any analytics turned on. this shit is genuinely evil. am i gonna have to make my own fork that disables all online requirements outside of what's needed to actually download packs.

we need to go back to dialup connections so that people get used to their computers actually being offline a reasonable chunk of time so they don't accidentally or on purpose design completely static programs to require a network connection

Just Around the Corner...

I've been waiting to say this for a very, very long time:

1.1.12 is almost here.

...Kinda. It's nearly ready for playtesting. I've got one last feature to smooth over and then it'll go out to the testers for feedback. Once the testers are happy with it (and I'm happy with what the testers are happy with), then we'll test multiplayer for a bit - and then it's time for full release.

It's been a looooooong time since NSSS last got a major update - September of 2021, to be exact. Sure, there have been tweaks and patches since then, but even then it's been over a year since 1.1.11_111-1. NSSS has been at version 1.1.11 for three years now - about half as long as NSSS has existed, period.

I'd like to think of 1.1.12 as the beginning of a return to form - wayyy back when NSSS first started, Vulpovile and I were releasing updates once every two weeks. I doubt I can maintain that pace, but at the very least I can avoid any more multi-year update droughts.

I've already got ideas lined up for 1.1.13, 1.1.14, 1.1.15, etc... - many of which I've been daydreaming about for years! I really want to finally sit down and work on these ideas, and make them reality once and for all.

There's a couple other things I'm hoping to polish up. First off - the website. I put it up a few months ago but it's been sitting semi-finished for a while now. The other day I finally dug up my FTP login credentials to actually upload the NSSS multimc instance and server jar there so I could fix the broken download links in the original forum post. Sorry for letting them sit broken for so long - I was very busy with IRL work. I'm going to be fleshing the website out a bit more soon - maybe I'll even get the in-browser applet working!

The launcher is also getting renewed attention. I figured out Oauth a while ago (so you can actually log in to microsoft accounts with it - yippee!) but was struggling to deal with https connections in older versions of Java. I think I've figured out a solution that's workable, so the launcher should finally be ready soon - here's hoping!

Lastly, the forums. Yes, there are official NSSS forums - but the URL has been somewhat hidden for a while now. I've been having trouble getting the phpBB theming to look the way I like it - if anyone has any experience with phpBB themes, please reach out! The increasing futility of trying to present information on discord has made it clear to me that it's for the best if most NSSS-related discussion were to happen on an actual public-facing website rather than a glorified IRC chatroom. The discord will still exist - but it will no longer be forced to do the triple-duty of "information repository", "public forum", and "community chat".

Let's see how much of this I can get done before 2030...

How many mods are you using in your modpack? What launcher are you using? How are you such an amazing builder? I'm forever amazed and curious...

lemme just say i'm honored by the compliments thanks so much, it means a lot! as for mods.. I currently have 85 mods installed. its pretty heavy, and my list was actually based on a modpack from a youtuber i watch 😅 [link to that here] i've changed and added a bunch myself, [link to my current list here]

as for the launcher i use multimc so i can have multiple versions of minecraft to mess with at any given time, def recommend for mac/pc java players, you can auto install fabric/forge which i like among other features

as for the last part idk, hard to say, i've been obsessed with architecture from a very young age and have also been playing minecraft for like... 15 years now! having a good understanding of proportions, architectural history, and minecraft itself is a good start i guess, doing studies of real buildings is also helpful for developing your skills. having autism also just naturally gives you +2 minecraft proficiency, if you dont have it well... not everyone can be so lucky, i don't know what to say beyond that
