All right, Memorial Day weekend coming up here in the States, let's get you in the summer mood. Obligatory 'reblog to increase sample size' and to share the tunes!
The UK Rock Superstars tournament will determine the greatest UK rock act of all time via Tumblr polls. The first place finisher in each group will automatically advance to the final knockout bracket, but any other rock act can advance to the stage based on the percentage of votes they receive in the group stage. Choose wisely!
July is right around the corner, which means we're starting to see the second phase of marketing for the premiere of Minions: The Rise of Gru. So I thought I'd post a short commercial I did in 2017 for the Despicable Me 3 marketing campaign. This one is for the OFO public bikes that used to be in several major cities. This commercial was for a campaign in China; you can see the Beijing skyline in the background.
It was important to the client that we see the skyline, but we didn't have time to generate Beijing CG environments. Instead, I combined stylized 2D environments with the CG character animation, and I think it came out pretty well. Six Point Harness (6PH) did all the 2D and final comp while MacGuff in Paris did all the CG.
As part of this marketing campaign, thousands of Minions bikes were made and distributed all over China.

Abajo “That Mean Old Look”, funky pantanoso a lo Tony Joe White.
On the 11th of July 1970, I went to the record store in Castricum, near my home in Bakkum, where I lived with my grandparents. The scent of sunscreen already hung in the air, a whisper of freedom as days stretched longer and school tests were behind us. Most weeks I would go to the store to pick up a copy of the Radio Veronica Top 40.
It was ironic that while they were an illegal Pirate Radio…
Okay, yeah, so I seem to play this one every summer … and this summer is no exception. Why? Because I like the song!!! Do I really need any other justification? I like the music, but partly I like the fun they seem to be having producing the music! Now that summer is here in full force, look for more summer-themed songs to come out of Filosofa’s Mind!
This song was written by Ray Dorset,…
