I went into the studio today and made a copy of the promotional Cave EP! This promotional-only EP was sent to radio stations in the US and Canada by Maverick, who was still Muse's US record label in 1999.
This is the first track, a radio edit of Cave sent in to stations for airplay, so it fades out at the end and does not have the piano outro. A bit abrupt for someone so used to hearing Matt's delicate pianos at the end, but it was curious hearing the edit fade out all the same!
I have to say though, sitting in the radio chairs with a Muse CD submission, I found myself trying to look at this as a radio DJ receiving the single/EP at the time must have, rather than as a fan who's intimately familiar with the band's work. What must it have been like to hear this for the first time? We get a lot of good submissions in many styles of music, in particular a lot of good indie rock, indie pop, post punk, etc. Back in the late 90s, it was alt rock, slacker rock, post-grunge alternative that was starting to come up, and like the aftermath of Britpop especially, for a band from the UK. What must it have been like receiving this song, hearing it for the first time? The sheer energy of this band? How professional and neat their CD looked?

The CD has the lyric from Cave on it: "Close your ears... and try to look away so you'll never hear a single word I say"
They just blew my mind all over again! What a talented band, and what a large sound they had!
This CD was sent to our station in January 2000.

Also! Muse promotional Cave EP. Contained Cave, a radio edit without the piano that’s under 4 minutes, and some acoustic versions of Showbiz songs recorded for a radio session at KCRW in LA.

im not someone who has any interest in vinyls in terms of like collecting them or just buying them for use, however I will say the repopularization of vinyl is pretty cool in the sense that a lot of artist release really cool looking records right now (and sometimes cassettes??) - rise and fall of a midwest princess has a coke bottle style vinyl, when the saltburn vinyl dropped they based it off the bathtub drain scene, wasteland baby comes in a underwater teal color that matches the album, the 1975's BFIAFL comes in a really nice shade of blue, etc - and I like that even the records themselves are personalized to a theme and a concept in a way vintage records (from when records were at the height of their popularity) never really managed to do. Anyhow, I'm personally really excited for the possibility of a revival of interest in CDs as they're smaller more affordable more portable versions of vinyls (and I think the uptick of Y2K interest is on my side in this one) and the hope that when artists see that trend and put more focus into their CD design they'll find a way to do the same thing; like linkin park's from zero CD, mellon collie and the infinite sadness by the smashing pumpkins, MCR's black parade CD, muse made a few clear CDs, etc and ideally even push the appearance a step further in terms of appearance.

Task 001: Crystal Bracelet
Cat Eye Diopside:
Diopside: - Diopside’s energy facilitates understanding, communication, and empathy with ourselves and other life forms. Diopside is also a chakra stone for the heart (or Anahata) chakra. The hub of love, compassion, and emotional balance.
It's entirely possible that this representation is the (Neverland) presenting side of Chance - his listening ear, his compassionate friendship, the ease at which he puts others and his apparent balanced and calm outlook.
Cat Eye: (Or Snake Eye) - This optical phenomenon, called chatoyancy, is caused by light reflecting off of parallel bundles of tiny hollow tubes or fibrous crystals of another mineral inside the gemstone.
Chances Diopside is almost entirely black with a sliver of green cat-eye/snake eye visible when the light catches it just right.

More from the US promotional Cave EP that Maverick sent out to radio stations in the US and Canada in late 1999/early 2000.
The second track on the EP is Muscle Museum from a live acoustic radio session Muse did for KCRW radio in Santa Monica, CA in August 1999, one of their earliest US gigs. This EP only contains Muscle Museum and Unintended, but more songs were played on this session: Falling Down, Overdue, Sunburn and Uno.
The pipes on this man.
