I went into the studio today and made a copy of the promotional Cave EP! This promotional-only EP was sent to radio stations in the US and Canada by Maverick, who was still Muse's US record label in 1999.

This is the first track, a radio edit of Cave sent in to stations for airplay, so it fades out at the end and does not have the piano outro. A bit abrupt for someone so used to hearing Matt's delicate pianos at the end, but it was curious hearing the edit fade out all the same!

I have to say though, sitting in the radio chairs with a Muse CD submission, I found myself trying to look at this as a radio DJ receiving the single/EP at the time must have, rather than as a fan who's intimately familiar with the band's work. What must it have been like to hear this for the first time? We get a lot of good submissions in many styles of music, in particular a lot of good indie rock, indie pop, post punk, etc. Back in the late 90s, it was alt rock, slacker rock, post-grunge alternative that was starting to come up, and like the aftermath of Britpop especially, for a band from the UK. What must it have been like receiving this song, hearing it for the first time? The sheer energy of this band? How professional and neat their CD looked?

The CD has the lyric from Cave on it: "Close your ears... and try to look away so you'll never hear a single word I say"

They just blew my mind all over again! What a talented band, and what a large sound they had!

This CD was sent to our station in January 2000.

I've been wanting to do this for a while, but I finally made a mini amigurumi version of the girl from the Cave single!

Did this on and off for the last three days or so. She's pretty tiny, and the proportions took ages to figure out. And yes, her hat is removable!

Guitar Princes - Part 3 [STYLES Series #004 - Muse (August 2010)]

Ian McCulloch leads Echo & The Bunnymen. His childlike face and up-turned hair with a pouty expression really captured the hearts of 80s UK-loving girls.

Green Gartside, the face of Scritti Politti, was extremely popular in the 1980s. He is still active with his gentle voice and ability that Miles Davis and others would recognise.

The Prince of Neo-acoustic music is this man, Roddy Frame of Aztec Camera. The atmosphere that hasn't changed from his boyish first period to the present is amazing! He is also an excellent guitarist.

Charlie Sexton, aka Charlie Boy, made his solo debut as a boy prodigy at the age of just 17. He has had a long and successful career, recognised by Bob Dylan and others. But he was still beautiful! pic: Koh Hasebe

Johnny Marr is currently the guitarist for The Cribs. He looks like a reliable guitar brother, but back in The Smiths days he had such a sensitive vibe.

Bernard Butler, who wielded his glamourous charm alongside vocalist Brett Anderson during the Suede era.

The Reid brothers Jim (left) and William (right) of The Jesus and Mary Chain, were the ‘Feedback Princes’. They broke up and resumed their activities in 2007, but they are no longer princes!

Spencer enters the lab before her coworkers, clicking on lights and machines as she makes her way to her desk. The single-cup coffee maker chirps a happy tune from the corner of her workspace, telling her the timer started and finished brewing her cup at the perfect time. She takes a long indulgent sip before finding it a coaster and going to check her emails.

Regarding the Wolf Tick - from the xeno-anthropologists draws a little groan. Howard sent that information over, she told him three times to specify that the tick only attaches to large live-stock like animals. She'll have to reply to that eventually.

Scalpels - from the medical team. Order your own. She says it every time they ask. If they'd allocate their resources with more intention, they wouldn't have this problem.

Eastern developments - expansion team. Now that catches her attention. She uses the mouse out of habit, ignoring how Alicia would've playfully chastised her for not touching the display had she bothered to be here.

How quickly can you get samples from these? The message reads.

The three pictures take forever to load, only coming in once Spencer had rested her head in her hand. The images make her choke on a sip of black coffee.

They're Na'vi. Sure. Not unusual. But they're grey. And small. Very unusual. She leans in closer for a better look, noting their stubby tails and strange demeanor. They seem to be watching from a distance, but make no effort to hide themselves. The tallest of the group stands with his shoulder back, eyeing the camera with a focused expression. Spencer clicks to another, seeing the group of five step closer. Their leader stays at the front of the pack, the bottom half his face covered by a thin fabric tied to a bone going through his nose. He has a bow slung across his back, bigger than the others and more decorated with more feathers and claws. The final image has him raising his bow in a menacing way. She stares at the final image for longer than she needs to, flabbergasted by the contents.

Of course there are other Na'vi better suited for their specific environment. The Tulkun hunting parties have seen plenty of Reef Na'vi, learning early on to keep their distance from the shore. But these were different. They'd look sickly if their warm points weren't a slightly pink hue. Spencer is so entranced by the images that she doesn't realize Brianne entering the lab until the soft clicking of heels approaches.

"Miss Landry-" the greeting comes from surprise as she rushes to close the tab on her computer. She's so distracted that she didn't realize her computer was still connected to the projector, displaying the final image of the grey Na'vi onto the back wall of the lab.

"We need to let Stringer know about this in full."

Spencer frowns. Stringer will want them out of his way. He'll want devastation brought unto their community until they leave their home. Anything to get whatever he's after out east. They didn't even attack the expansion drone. She can justify the war with the Omatikaya, there's a history there that can't be ignored or worked around. But these people haven't done anything. She wonders if there's a way to ignore them. Find another site for their expedition. Her consideration keeps her silent for a long while, trying to pick her next words carefully.

"...Are you sure...?"

The last track, track 5 on the US Promo Cave EP is a remix of Cave, quite interestingly done with really hip-hop style drum beats (this one is a full five minutes long and has not been edited to a radio-friendly length).

Unfortunately Tumblr is being horrible to me and keeps erroring out when I try to upload it, so I must resign myself to giving you all a lower quality, yet accurate internet-sourced version. Shame. But at least you can hear it this way. If Tumblr ever changes its mind about letting me just. upload this (please), then I'll edit the post.

He's a modern bug! He was raised by his grandparents which is why he talks like he's a hundred million years old.

He's married to muse and is a researcher! He studies languages and knows quite a few! He actually knows quite a bit of roach, while not fluent, he is the foremost expert in bugaria.

When Kabbu and Vi go to snakemouth den, instead of getting trapped, they get chased out by the spider. Kabbu knows Leif, and that he's interested in roach stuff and mentioned what they discovered. Leif of course, like any sane person with a special interest, immediately demands that he come on their next incredibly dangerous excursion.

Which of course, is how he gets venomed lol. And yeah, he's red btw. If i made him blue then I'd have to make all of team snakemouth blue.
