Public Coast Brewing re-releases seasonal Uncle Fred’s and Stackstock, and introducing Violent Violet Blueberry Double Hazy IPA.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Press Release
CANNON BEACH, Ore. (April 5, 2023) - Public Coast Brewing Co. has re-released two of its “special release” beers: Uncle Fred’s German Wheat and Stackstock Candy Cap Stout and added the latest collab beer with Big Dog’s Brewing Co.: Violent Violet Blueberry Double Hazy IPA respectively. Only available for a limited time, the three beers each provide a refreshing taste of the bounty of Oregon as we head into the spring and summer months.
“We’re excited to bring back two very special fan favorites and a new collab beer this season,” said Will Leroux, Public Coast’s head brewmaster. “Uncle Fred’s German Wheat beer, brewed in honor of our friend, Fred Bowman, is refreshing and full bodied, with just a dash more clove and banana than your mother’s famous muffins. Violent Violet lives up to its name, packed with fruity tartness which allows the fruit to shine through and pair well with the malts and slight bitterness. And our Stackstock Candy Cap Stout continues to be a crowd pleaser for mushroom foragers, foodies, and craft beer drinkers alike.”
Uncle Fred’s German Wheat beer, a 5.0% ABV, is brewed with at least 50 percent malted wheat and also includes lemon drop hops. This style of beer will be light in color and typically carries notes of banana and clove. Uncle Fred’s is an easy drinker, highly carbonated, bubbly, and refreshing.
Violent Violet Blueberry Double Hazy IPA is as luscious as it sounds, a 8.2% ABV, it’s a stronger take on a regular IPA – amplifying it with a bigger malt and hop profile. This beer contains fresh blueberries paired with extra hops and extra malt, which means it’s pretty EXTRA - extra fruity, extra hoppy, and extra hazy.
Stackstock Candy Cap Stout, a 5.8% ABV, highlights the bounty of the land by infusing a stout beer with Candy Cap mushrooms, the hidden gem of the Pacific Northwest. This beer contains notes of roast chocolate, coffee and dark fruit with the subtle taste of umami from the mushroom. Think maple, caramel and pralines – like a sticky bun.
All three releases are for sale on-tap and in cans at Public Coast’s brewpub in Cannon Beach. For a full list of beers on tap, visit: publiccoastbrewing.com/beer/.

About Public Coast Farm Oregon’s historic Route 26, known to Portlanders as the Sunset Highway, has welcomed generations of families traveling to and from the coast on its forested byway. Now Public Coast Farm sits on that very route, straddling West Dairy Creek at the base of the Coastal Range, on a 40-acre site lush with blueberry bushes, beehives, fruit orchards and hops. The farm is fertile ground for the farm’s sister properties - the Stephanie Inn and Public Coast Brewing Co. - each of which incorporate Public Coast Farm’s fresh ingredients into delicious dishes and seasonal beers.

More to come at Natural Products Expo West 2023
It is hard to believe that this is just a handful of the trends and brands we noticed. An honorable mention we saw was seed paper. Seed paper is paper made embedded with seeds. After using the paper, it can be planted directly into soil, which can then grow into live plants. Many brands did this with their businesses card, Freestyle Snacks being one of them.
We are expecting to see these trends be a big part of 2023 and shape the naturals product. Natural Products Expo West will occur in Anaheim, CA from March 7 – 11, 2023. These trends along with many others are sure to be on display. For more trends,

» • * — ( timothee chalamet , male , he/him ) . i think i hear I THINK by Tyler the Creator coming from apartment 2215. doesn’t Simon Pierrot live there ?? i heard they are a twenty-four year old bartender from Portland, Oregon, but they’ve been living in the apartments for six months . they come across a bit -noncommittal and -inscrutable, but they also seem like they could be +confident and +easy going . whenever i see them , i think of speculative conspiracy theories after midnight, a disinterested olive gaze, and last call whiskey gingers. oh , and don’t forget to follow them on instagram at @simonsadclown! ooc . MT , 23 , PST , they/them .
howdy howdy! im excited to be here and would love to chit chat if anyone wants to get some things going. below is a lil something something about Simon to take a gander at if you’re interested.
▀▄▀▄▀▄ THE PAST ▄▀▄▀▄▀
✸ Simon was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. His mother was young when he had him so his father’s involvement in his life petered out before the age of five and he was raised primarily by his grandmother. His grandmother had been a hippie and his mother also brought him up in an alternative lifestyle. I.E. cloth diapers, alternative medicine, solstice celebrations.
✸ His teen years lacked guidance and Simon spent most of his formative years sneaking out and partying letting his grades suffer but he’d done enough mushrooms by this point that he realized he did not want to be another cog in the machine that was higher education. It was also during this time that Simon realized he was gay though never had a real defining moment of coming out. He’d suppose that his only coming out event would’ve been when his grandmother caught him on top of a guy as Natural Born Killers played in the background.
✸ After high school he moved to California, picked up bartending and promptly grew out of the state and west coast after honing in on his craft and moved to NYC for greener pastures.
✸ He’s currently working in a contemporary cocktail bar most nights making cocktails for the elite and trendy in NYC but moonlights at a barcade for quick under the table cash slinging beers. His roommate he’d signed his lease with had already given up on their dreams of becoming a broadway star and Simon filled his room with Casey Ellison. Casey’s only been in the apartment for two weeks so he’s still getting to know the guy but so far he’s paid rent without delay and has a captivating take on the Denver airport.
▀▄▀▄▀▄  APPEARANCE ▄▀▄▀▄▀
FACECLAIM: Timothee Chalamet HEIGHT: 5′10″ WEIGHT: 148 lbs HAIR: Chocolate brown curls EYE COLOR: Green like the beans TATTOOS: None PIERCINGS: Ears and nose though he rarely wears anything in his ears and currently has in a ring on the side of his nose.
▀▄▀▄▀▄  PERSONALITY ▄▀▄▀▄▀
✸ CONFIDENT: Simon was raised to be unapologetically himself and while there’s been moments that have humbled him in life he has never sacrificed or compromised his self worth. Some find this to be an attractive trait and others find him cocky.
✸ EASY GOING: Sometimes to a fault Simon goes with the flow. He doesn’t sweat the small stuff (or the big stuff frankly) which keeps him flexible and open minded to most things. It’s rare for him to turn down an invitation to something that even remotely sparks his interest.
✸ NONCOMMITTAL: Being so go with the flow and a social butterfly it’s hard to tie Simon down. Simon fears life becoming stagnant for himself and constantly is keeping things fresh. This coupled with the fact he often stretches himself thin makes him a flakey person in life and hard to rely on except for a good time.
✸ INSCRUTABLE: Simon’s hard to read. He’s been known to hit it off with people and neglect to ever contact them again. Simon hates showing his vulnerabilities and is very much so aware of the image of himself that he puts out. It often leaves people wanting to get close to him confused about who he really is on a deeper level.
▀▄▀▄▀▄ BIASES ▄▀▄▀▄▀
BEDROOM:
Simon identifies as homoflexible. He’s been with women in the past and will probably be with more in the future but his preferences tend more often than not to be towards males. Simon identifies as a true versatile so it really depends on the dynamic he has with his partner regarding the position and role he takes on in bed. He also might be a little kinky. I’m not saying he has a toy chest in his closet but he definitely didn’t learn how to tie knots from boy scouts if you catch my drift.
VICES:
He’s indulged in a little of everything at some point. These days however he leans more heavily towards marijuana and alcohol with the occasional psychedelic. It’s rare for him to not have his vape close by or a drink in hand in a social situation.
MISC:
Day/Night Chocolate/Vanilla Savory/Sweet Summer/Winter Fall/Spring Sun/Rain Coke/Pepsi Comedy/Horror Leather/Lace Breakfast/Dinner Black/White Halloween/Christmas Left/Right Montague/Capulet Toe/Finger Goth/Prep

You Are What You...
There is an old saying, “you are what you eat.” Its origins date back to the 1800s depending on the source. In America, it was popularized in the 1920s in conjunction with the Catabolic Diet. I started eating differently last year when I made my final New Year’s Weight Loss Resolution. I focused on a high-protein, low-glycemic, smart-carbohydrate way of eating following Dr. Wayne Scott Anderson’s principles outlined in The Habits of Health. I’m lighter and leaner than I’ve been in my adult life and I feel good.
However, I have a few health issues that are inconvenient. I lean toward constipation and have as far as I can remember. I have high cholesterol, specifically high LDL. I’m in my second year of menopause (very inconvenient), have toenail fungus (treated once for three months and unchanged), and I’m shrinking. A recent bone scan revealed osteopenia.
My family physician retired, and I started seeing a naturopathic doctor. I like her approach to getting at the root of a problem  and working in partnership with me and my body. She decided to look at the liver as a possible culprit to all my seemingly unrelated issues. The first step was to eat gluten-free for two weeks. In additon, I also ingested an elixir before meals and took an Omega-3 fatty acid with meals.
The elixir is bitter and suspended in alcohol, the first I’d drank since I was 20.It’s purpose is to detox my liver. I ran out after seven days and one breakfast and ordered more online. I continued with the Omega-3s and quickly discovered that eating gluten-free was a hassle. Too much time was involved prepping food in the kitchen. I bought some ready-made items and was happy to discover that much of the Take Shape for Life fuelings I’ve been eating for a year, were gluten-free, so I  ate more of those for the convenience and ease.
Going out to eat was a pain because suddenly, I had become that person. The one who asks all the questions and makes all the demands in the kitchens. It was embarrassing. I tend to already be particular about what I eat, and now I was being a P-I-T-A (pain in the a--). I was grateful to learn of several gluten-free eateries in Oregon during a recent visit. I didn’t feel deprived.
Unfortunately, my experiment revealed nothing, so the doctor ruled out gluten. The next experiment in our scientific method has been eliminating dairy. I’m on day six. I knew after 24 hours that we were onto something. I didn’t have the digestive issues that have plagued me for decades. I am losing the weight I gained during my recent Oregon adventure. I can go to the bathroom with ease, and I go often.
The bummer is, it’s dairy. No Greek yogurt, frozen yogurt, pizza, ice cream, buttermilk pancakes, butter cookies, buttered toast, cream cheese frosting, cinnamon rolls, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, scones, pastires, hot chocolate, feta cheese, black and blue salads, Vermont cheddar mac and cheese, clam chowder, cream of mushroom soup, Zone Perfect bars, and many of the Medifast fuelings that have been my mainstays for over a year.
This is an adjustment to say the least. While still mourning the loss of dairy, I take solace in knowing the bounty of the earth was created for man and there is much to nourish me. I’m going to experiment with coconut butter, oil and milk. I am gaining an appreciation for vanilla-flavored, unsweetened almond milk and creating my own hot chocolate using almond milk and plant-based protein powder. I’m grateful to still enjoy oatmeal each morning, and fresh-cut French fries are not off the table.
So now what I eat reflects a body that utilizes its nutrition as an efficient source of energy. I can be unencumbered by desperate hankerings for ice cream, yogurt, carrot cake, or scones. What I can enjoy, is carrot cake without the cream cheese frosting, brownies with extra nuts, thighs that don’t rub and a belly that is flat. As the weather warms and we gain daylight, I will master the fruit smoothie using hemp and pea protein and become a summer sorbet queen.

I was tagged by @wonderlandmind4 :)
1. What is the colour of your hairbrush?
-Black and green
2. Name a food you never eat?
-I’m “picky” aka have food OCD, so that’s a lengthy list lol. Some big no-go’s are mushrooms and asparagus.
3. Are you typically too warm or too cold?
-I’m ALWAYS warm.
4. What were you doing 45 minutes ago?
- Playing pool on my phone, listening to the top songs of 2004, and drinking a seltzer.
5. What is your favourite candy bar?
-Twix or bueno bars!!
6. Have you ever been to a professional sports game?
-Yes! I’ve gone to see the Seattle Storm, the Sonics (back when they were ours!!), the Sounders, and the Mariners.
7. What is the last thing you said out loud?
- “Ow.” I smacked myself in the face with a bowl when I went to funnel Fritos into my mouth........
8. What is your favourite ice cream?
- I’m the person that gets cotton candy or bubble gum lol. But I do really like coffee Oreo or anything caramel!
9. What is the last thing you had to drink?
- A Smirnoff raspberry rosé seltzer. They’re pretty sweet, but tasty nonetheless.
10. Do you like your wallet?
- Yes! I’ve been a sucker for Coach since I was little, and even as my taste has evolved (read: gotten significantly more expensive), I always like to have a Coach wallet. Right now I have a dusty blue croc “skin” trifold that serves me well!
11. What was the last thing you ate?
-Fritos, before I smacked myself in the face with the bowl.
12. Did you buy new clothes last weekend?
- No, but I bought a lamp! And I found some old Barnes and Nobles gift cards and ordered a book. But I work in retail, so I usually say yes to this question lol.
13. The last sporting event you watched?
-XFL. I wanted to be a Seattle Dragons fan, and I’m so bummed about the league folding.
14. What is your favourite flavour of popcorn?
-I’m not a huge popcorn fan, but I do love it when it’s chocolate-coated. Otherwise just a shit ton of butter. *WAIT NO, I lied. My neighbor makes this insane curry powder popcorn and it’s to die for.

-Last person I messaged? @princesszorldo. Last person I texted? My dad (who is upstairs haha) to congratulate him in 27 years living in the United States.

- Kind of. I’ve never done the full on “tent on a camp site or in the woods”, but I’ve camped out in tents on retreats and I’ve gone to sleep away  camp.

-I ought to. I take a liquid multi and calcium sometimes, but I’m on so many meds that I have an aversion to taking pills when I don’t absolutely need to.
18. Do you go to church every Sunday?
- I used to. That’s a tricky subject for me, but I usually respond to religion with “I’m a Christian, but I don’t support institutionalized religion and the modern Christian church doesn’t widely reflect what I value and see the faith to be about”.
19. Do you have a tan?
- I’m half Filipino, so yeah. lol. BUT I like to joke that being half means that I get melanin for half of the year only. It’s a pretty drastic difference if you met me in August vs February.

21. Do you drink your soda with a straw?

I’ve been able to drive since I was fifteen, but I got my license at nearly twenty-one. And I don’t have a car. I actually *hit* another car during my drive test and played dumb and the lady still passed me! Soooooo, I don't drive over the limit by way of I don't really drive. But I probably would if I drove more.
24. What terrifies you?
-Not being understood. Moths. The concept of eternity.
25. What do you left, what do you see?

30. What’s your favourite number?
-16 bc I was born on the 16th.

33. Last song you listen to?

36. Can you say the alphabet backwards?
- I learned in 7th grade bc I was being bullied and that’s what I would do to distract myself in class. But now it’s a cool party trick!
37. How do you like your coffee?
-COFFEEEEEEE. I take it lots of ways. If I’m camping or need something asap? Drip with half and half, and with honey and cinnamon if there’s any. At home? Stok cold brew with hazelnut creamer. On my way to and from work? Usually an iced vanilla latte or an iced white mocha.
38. Favourite pair of shoes?
- My blue crocs. Or I have some baby pink Swedish Hasbeen clogs that I love! Or my maroon docs. But I wear my Sam Edelman pointy-toed booties the most bc I’m “highly encouraged” to wear heels to work.

-For work? Between 6:30 and 7:30am. Lately? Noon. And that’s on narcolepsy and quarantine, periodt.
40. What do you prefer sunrise or sunset?

41. How many blankets on your bed?
- Two. I sleep with just a weighted blanket, but I have a duvet on the half of my bed that I don’t sleep on.
42. Describe your kitchen plates?
- Lol what. They’re blue. From Costco. I don’t like the size range that the set came in, but whatever.
43. Describe your kitchen at the moment?
- There are sugar ants coming from somewhere, so a lot of our food is sitting on the dining room table lol. Fun fact! Pam spray kills those fuckers on sight. My mother isn’t happy that I figured that out.
44. Do you have a favourite alcoholic drink?
- Vodka tonics, usually. I love cider and seltzers. I’m a big tequila fan, but I’ve got to commit to that. I can’t have beer bc gluten hates me, and I can’t have Jäger anymore bc living in Prague funneled way too much of that shit through my esophagus,
45. Do you play cards?
- I love games, but especially cards! Nerts, BS, speed, spoons.... I pick up new random games all the time, but those are some favorites.
46. What colour is your car?
- What car? If I had one it would be orange and obnoxious. Probably a Subaru Outback bc Seattle tings.
47. Can you change a tire?
- Bruh. After all of that do I sound like someone who can change a tire?
48. Your favourite state?
- WASHINGTON. Oregon and California get honorable mentions, though. I want to like New York, but I haven’t been. I feel like I would like Massachusetts, too. I’m fond of Texas, but that’s a complicated love lol.
49. Favourite job you’ve had?
- I like my current job (finally)! I’m a bridal stylist, and while there were some people on staff that were tough, I love working with brides and I was excited to learn that I quickly became one of the top sellers on my team!
50. How did you get your scar?
- Right wrist is from when I burned myself on the toaster oven when I was five. Left wrist from when Elly scratched me on the playground in third grade and the front office lady wouldn't let me go to the nurse bc she was friends with Elly’s mom and said “that’s what I deserved”. Left knee.....definitely not from falling after a night out.... Lots of old keloid scars on my ears from piercings. I had a cyst removed and that bad boy did not heal up nicely. Lovely. I mostly sprain and break things, though.
@princesszorldo here’s something to do while in quarantine lol

You Could Use A Nice Cup Of Tea
Headlines are lessons that ring with truth: you could probably use a nice cup of tea right now. Fortunately for you this very website called Sprudge—the world’s most popular coffee publication, hi, thanks for reading—is also the coffee industry’s leading tea publication, home to a deep and growing bank of thoughtful tea content. We do it because we love drinking tea, sharing tea, and telling stories about tea. Tea is good! But also because we believe tea has an important role to play in the life of the modern coffee lover, especially as part of a well-rounded home beverage situation. It can also be an additional way to support the companies you love in these strange times.
To that end, we’ve put together this here quick recommendation guide to get you steeping and re-steeping from the comfort of your own home. This is but one wee list of tea recommendations; for a more sprawling read, check out our previous mega-guide to buying tea online, plus this feature on the wonders of tea ceramics and this one on why tisanes are also good.
For your general well-being, for your mental health, and to support good businesses and artisan makers around the world, let’s drink some tea!
Rishi Tea
Our friends and partners at Rishi Tea set the gold standard for tea collaboration in a coffee context, and you’ll find their teas served in tandem with some of the finest coffees in the world. Shopping online with Rishi means entering into a universe of choice, from teawares to Sparkling Botanicals to matcha to a beautiful range of herbal tisanes helpfully organized by function. But I’m most especially here for Rishi’s extraordinary Garden Direct range of fine and rare teas, many sourced from individual artisan tea producers across Asia. If you’ve never had really good Phoenix Dancong before, start there—it’s a kind of complex, utterly delicious roasted oolong from southeast China that tastes sweet, floral, and wonderfully caramelized all at the same time, not unlike a really good Gesha. I also love that piquant, bittersweet range of flavors—mushroom, ocean breeze, nori—you get from high quality Gyokuru from Japan, and Rishi Garden Direct has the good stuff.
But again, it’s a choose your own adventure here at Rishi’s website and through their partnerships with a range of fine coffee brands. If you want to shop around support coffee companies amidst your tea habit, check out the yummy Elderberry Healer blend (via Olympia Coffee Roasting Company) and pick up Rishi’s easy to use “Simple Brew” loose leaf tea pot (available here via Verve) with which to brew it.
Really this is just scratching the surface! Go explore the Rishi website. They’re shipping free right now within the United States for orders starting at $30.
Kilogram Tea
Kilogram Tea of Chicago is an American tea company born out of many years of experience sourcing tea in collaboration with Intelligentsia Coffee. Today the brand is distinct in style and intention, but continues to compliment the coffee offerings at Intelligentsia coffee bars nationwide. Like its coffee sibling, Kilogram’s offerings are built on seasonality, which means the New, Seasonal section of their website is where you should start. Here right now you’ll find a lovely medium steamed Sencha, as well as a lightly steamed offering, both from impeccable producers.
From there you can check out a range of additional offerings, from a benchmark organic Tieguanyin to really yummy Early Spring Snow Sprout to a concise, thoughtful selection of teawares for wherever you’re at in your tea journey. Subscribers receive 15% off their first order and orders within the Continental US ship free after $35.
Equator Coffees’ “Leaf & Water”
Tea is a longtime part of the story for Equator Coffees, which means you can shop for your tea habit while supporting a great specialty company (that’s also a B Corp). Check out classic, crowd-pleasing profiles like Yunnan Black, White Peony, or Dragon Well, plus a host of herbal blends. Combine with a coffee order while you’re at it, and enjoy free shipping on all orders right now from Equator.
Dogwood Coffee’s Cascara
Okay, cascara isn’t technically tea—actually, it’s a tisane—but Dogwood Coffee of Minneapolis has that good cascara right now, perfect for cold brewin’, baking, or plain old steeping it up hot with a splash of good honey.
Kettl Tea
Kettl Tea of Brooklyn continue to make a name for themselves as perhaps the United States’ finest purveyors of fine Japanese tea. If you’re a matcha at home person this is what you’ve been searching for, from top of the line single cultivar sets to solid entry level options. I’m consistently floored by how good the Gyokuro teas—perfect for spring!—are from Kettl, as well as their low-caffeine, high flavor mildly roasted Hojicha offerings. From the incredibly wonderful matcha chocolate to kiddo friendly soba cha, this is stuff you’ll want to share with your friends and family. Sign up for their newsletter and get 10% off your order, and enjoy free shipping within the United States right now.

Aramark’s (NYSE: ARMK) team of chefs from its Sports & Entertainment division bested its competitors to win the Inaugural National Finals of the Aramark Culinary Excellence (ACE) Competition – a showcase of the company’s domestic culinary talent and menu innovation – and take home the coveted “Copper Pot.”
Members of the winning team are:
Chef Stephen Aheimer – FirstEnergy Stadium
Chef Richard Grab – Philadelphia, Baltimore & Washington, DC District
Chef Allan Wambaa – Oregon Convention Center
Fifteen Aramark chefs, comprising five teams of three chefs from participating U.S. lines of business (Business Dining, Education, Healthcare Hospitality, Leisure, and Sports & Entertainment), competed in the intense daylong culinary challenge, in accordance with American Culinary Federation competition standards and judged by ACF Master and Certified Executive Chefs, at Aramark’s Global Headquarters in Philadelphia, PA, on November 20, 2019.

“We’re excited to have been included in this wonderful event celebrating culinary excellence and are grateful for Aramark’s continued support of community initiatives and causes, such as Back on My Feet,” said Ashley Kilpatrick, Senior Vice President of Development with Back on My Feet. “While we’re ecstatic the Sports & Entertainment team won the competition, we are humbled by all the hard work and attention to detail each team put into competing on behalf of their chosen organization. Thanks to Aramark’s generosity, we all walk away winners!”
In the spirit of friendly competition, just for competing, all of the other teams earned a $5,000 donation for their non-profit partner, from the Aramark Charitable Fund. Those organizations and the teams they partnered with are: Boys & Girls Clubs of America (Business Dining); Hope Center for College, Community and Justice (Education); Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (Healthcare Hospitality); and National Park Foundation (Leisure).
