I don't think I can picture Tobias ever yelling at someone. Not as a kid, not as a teen, not as an adult. Even when he's at his angriest he has the seething kind of rage instead of the boisterous one. The only time he would EVER yell is if he had to tell someone to stop walking/duck/etc bc they were in danger but he was too far away from them to say that in a normal tone of voice or help them wordlessly. His voice is always nice to listen to! It's never angry! It's always calm, agreeable and sweet! No wonder he takes so many people by surprise, he seems like a guy you'd kick it with anytime.

So baejax was an actual dude?
😂
Ajax the Greater is a (mostly) mortal man of Greek legend. I started calling him Baejax as a joke.
Whether the cast of the Iliad were actual dudes is up for debate, but their legend has lasted three thousand years and their stories have been told and told over again, so Ajax the character has enough reality conferred to him by collective imaginations that his historical realness isn't important to me.
As a character of legend, I find Ajax fascinating both in his persistence-- it's a name that most people are familiar with even if they don't know anything of his myth (maybe because there is a household cleaner named after him in my country, among other things)-- and in how little people actually know of his story. I find the second part especially interesting because as the second strongest of the Greeks, he was overshadowed at every turn by Achilles, and once Achilles died, rather than rising to the occasion and finishing the assault of Troy, Ajax died immediately after, ignobly.
Now Achilles chose to go to Troy and die in glory in order to gain immortality through epic poetry, and he succeeded in that. We all know his name and some version of the story. Ajax? Not so much. There weren't any prophecies about him, and his death was completely unnecessary and, in my opinion, tragic. I also think most people (including Sophocles) got his death wrong, but it makes sense to me that this overshadowed man's memory would be warped and incorrect because that is what he wanted in the end--to be forgotten.
Ajax's enduring legacy has been his size and his stupidity. He carried a great shield that nobody other than him except Achilles could lift. He was the tallest of the Greeks by an entire head. And he has been called all sorts of names over time, including Shakespeare's "beef-witted."
I've read the Iliad. I've read the play "Ajax." I've read academic papers about him and looked at ancient art, and I simply don't find much evidence supporting him as an imbecile. This seems to me more of a stereotype than anything--big, dumb, friendly man who can't do anything right dies stupidly and needlessly.
He wasn't simple. He wasn't stupid. He was a tragic figure. And for better or worse, I love him.

Something something about strikes on public infrastructure and emergency services
Something something about real life victims who are left in real need of services that are denied that have no substitute
Something something about Tumblr's obsessive morally right crusade for strikes and if you're hurt by them or dare to be opposed or angry, then you're the enemy
Something something about rights and needs existing in fundamental opposition, and something about that being the literal nature of conflict and war
Anyway, I just want Tumblr to recognize that there's no single perfectly moral and "right" side to a lot of pet causes. Actual reality is full of unresolvable disagreements and people are going to fight for self-interest, and they're going to be forced to fight for self-interest. And they're going to be right by their own accounts and wrong by others.
And maybe it's ok, or maybe it isn't, but it's necessary and it's reality and it would be nice if everyone finally realized the world is gray and actions have consequences, and crusaders looked the consequences in the eye and acknowledge what they choose, deliberately, to do at the cost of others.

Episode 8 Thoughts
Obsessed with the implementation of horror in Neverafter. Like, yes, obviously the creepy spiders, gore, cannibalism, etc. But that moment for Timothy of gazing into an abyss of ink, the dark and bottomless origin of creation itself, and having something stare back at you?? To be observed in such a way that you are instantaneously rendered into a fictitious state and grasp the frivolity of your own existence. It's utter meaninglessness fills you as vast as the oceans are wide. And something else, about the existential horror that must accompany the realization you are a mere cog in a wheel you cannot begin to comprehend, let alone have a hand in designing.
I don't know a lot about the philosophy of predeterminism, if that's what it's called, but there is a very unique, juicy genre of horror within this space that has to do with utter powerlessness, futility, and essentially all of your choices- all of them- being illusory.
So cruel too because our ragtag group of survivors have been trying so hard!! Jotting stories down and battling against the odds and banding together. People of decisive action because this world needs them to be. In a way, this idea of the authors stands in opposition. Or better yet, its reality nudges their deepest fears, whispering to them that maybe, just maybe, nothing they do ever mattered or will ever matter at all.
And to have your life, death, everything in between be nothing more than lines on a page thought up by someone else? That you aren't even as real as everything else?? That is its own special kind of horrific.

It's the fact that Jeffrey was actively cheating on Sarah the entire time they were together that REALLY does it for me.

ALPHA KIDS: Draw your best friends!
DIRK: I'd say I'm better at one on one character interaction work of the more intimate variety, but I think this piece came together nicely.
DIRK: Fun for the whole family style wholesomeness, any motherfucker in the radius of a screen displaying this image will instantly get hit with a sore case of heartburn and their tear ducts will clock in overtime at the weeping factory.
ROXY: im so proud of these i think these are my best designs yet :3 but omg dirk callie and jake were SOOO peculiar about their damn designs over my shoulder. jake wanted me to clarify that even in pink pen form his little guy is BLUE. so there. sigh this is the one occasion they could take notes from janey.. JUST LET LE ARTIST WORK!
JANE: Boy! I don't draw often but I always was fond of calligraphy growing up. I was kind of inspired by all of the other's works, but especially Calliope's swirls she puts in her art. It's very fun to add!
JAKE: Im not quite the best with posing, but i find the head very fun to study! Especially skulls.. so good ole calliope makes for the perfect muse! (hehe)
CALLIOPE: i realized i hadn't ever made a piece with Us in the same place at once. u_u
CALLIOPE: bUt since it's reality now here's all of Us together, United at last! ^u^
