FE Awakening AU; Purple Serpent House
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following this post, here's the second house
As the Halidom' southern neighbor, tensions have been high between the two nations. Alongside this, internal conflict is never ending as well. The country is divided by Grima's followers and regular folks. The cult has a huge reach over anything that happens in the Theocracy and as such, they're involved in just about everything. A harsh land praised by their expertise at magic and the dark arts, as well as renown for many, many mercenaries and thieves roaming the land, Plegia is plagued by many stains on it's name.
Ezra: Eldest son of Gangrel and Aversa, he's seen some shit. Upon learning at a young age that his parents' marriage was purely political to appease the Grimleal, Ezra grew a profound hatred for the cult. He holds many of his father's beliefs, but refuses to swear by his ways. He enrolled in the Academy to spy on the neighboring countries.
Elisabella: Youngest daughter of the pair, she's the splitting image of her mother in almost every way. Unlike her brother, she has no aversion to the Grimleal and wishes to join them once she graduates. Tensions between the siblings are high and they've been growing apart more and more as the years go by.
Marc: Youngest son of Robin and Henry, he's like a mini version of his mother. Usually calm and collected, he adores discovering new things and partaking in Morgan's weird antics. He admires his oldest sister and his parents above all else and strives to impress them every step of the way.
Morgan: Youngest daughter of Tharja and Darean, Morgan is quite energetic. She adores pulling pranks on her loved ones. Despite her and Marc being cousins, they were born on the same day by some miracle. She enrolled coincidentally without telling him at the same time.
Noire: Tharja and Darean's oldest daughter, she's timid and quiet. She detests violence and detests the dark arts even more. Coming from a long line of extremely powerful shamans, Noire is struggles to learn any dark magic and it is unknown whether she was born with Crests.
Vincent: Only child of Gaius, he was originally born in the Halidom. Though, shortly after his birth, his mother passed away. He's been roaming the continent ever since with his father, eventually settling in the capital of Plegia to pick up odd jobs to make ends meet. Wanting to make a name for himself, he enrolled in hopes of grabbing some powerful people's attention.
Alice: Oldest daughter of Robin and Henry, she's her father's treasure. She lived a relatively cozy life, with her parents' stand in the Plegian army. Though she's not much of a fighter, she enrolled to keep an eye on her cousins and brother.
Maryam: Youngest child and only daughter of the Great General Mustafa, Maryam is following in her older brother's footsteps by enrolling at the academy. She dreams of becoming a renown general, just like her father. Her ambitions are only met by her feisty personality.
Crest of Rashidi: May collect a random item upon waiting.
Crest of Fugara: Doubles might of Dark Magic.
Crest of ???: May inflict poison on an enemy after attacking.
Ohhh boy, I had to make up so much stuff for this lol. Enjoy Henry and Gaius' fanmade children. Few references hidden here and there, kuddos to you if you can find them

Super long post but Fire Emblem should never attempt to write a morally gray story with conflicting paths cause as they've proven with Fates and Three Houses neither Intelligent Systems nor it's fans now what moral grayness actually is.
They believe moral grayness means equating the anger of the victims to the aggression of the villains.
They believe moral grayness means refusing to treat villainous characters like villains all cause they're playable protagonists in one of the other routes, have an appealing design, some likable traits ( that are invalidated by their disgusting behaviour ) a sad backstory and aren't as bad as other villains that are cartoonishly evil that lack their kind traits.
They believe moral grayness means commiting the most heinous of crimes with the noble of intentions and that it makes them exempt of any accountability.
It doesnt. Moral grayness means doing bad things for reasons that are neither evil nor trivial.
Take Mustafa from Awakening for example. Capturing and killing the Ylisseans is an evil act but he only does it out of the safety for his family. His reasons are not rooted in evil. It does not justify his actions but it is understandable why anyone in his position would do such a thing. The claim that his family will be killed if be fails Gangrel is rooted in reality unlike the claims of some lords about why they commit the crimes they do.
And then on top of that the fanbase will go at eachothers throats cause they're heavily biased for their favorite route and biased against all the routes that oppose it which creates nothing but endless drama and also believe that the games their faves are a part of is actually morally gray cause the writers told them so.
Especially Three Houses. It's been 5 years and people still argue with each other with no progress whatsoever.
Engage was a breathe of fresh air cause it had none of the egregious flaws that i just mentioned.
I don't care how goofy, lighthearted, straightforward and basic Engage is I'll take a 100000 of them before I want a single failed attempt at a morally gray story by a company that doesn't possess the skill to actually write one.

I think if Mustafa told Henry that Gangrel threatened his wife/kid, Henry would've curse o'clocked him out of existence. And then Mustafa is king!

Forgive me for talking about a not so popular game from 2017 but I finally ripped the soundtrack CDs of Fire Emblem Warriors and I am once again taken by the theme from the final battle in that game. The whole game is basically a crossover between Awakening, Fates and Shadow Dragon so the final boss theme is a remix of those games final map themes. Makes sense right? BUT THEN! For some reason Don't Speak Her Name from Awakening is ALSO part of this new theme. And as you can tell I am completely normal and very brave about this

i've been making a bunch of custom sprites for Awakening over the last while
i'm mostly just doing these just for me to play with BUT at some point i will make a mod people can use to add all of them to their game. as well as just releasing the sprite files themselves for other people to use in their mods.
in the meantime, several of them have already been added to Project Thabes, a very good awakening overhaul mod that I'd recommend checking out

same anon as the not exaggerated joke but not joke about robbing plegia. God I love awakening, I really love chrom and robin and all that. But I am also facinated by Gangrel and Validar (and to a lesser extent Henry and Tharja (and also Mustafa and to an even lesser extent the various plegian officers you fight) Like there could have easily been an interesting exploration of any of those characters. Gangrel's a much less subtle example of how an ATTEMPTED GENOCIDE affected him. He went mad and is lashing out at those who both caused and did not take accountability. Like there's a lot there to unpack and look at, especially when you consider his general dismissal of the grimleal cult. Validar is one I really wish we saw more of (Validad wishful thinking in my brain). He was likely a part of the grimleal since before the war, being a failed vessel; how did he view the genocide, was he moved by what happened to other plegians, did that give him conviction, did he care at all? Did he see grima, or his own child as a means of retribution or even as a saviour for his people. There is so much that could have been done there. Also maybe Tharja and Henry should have more to say about their country being brutalised in 3 whole wars. Also also, please just acknowledge Mustafa he was so fucking cool and deserved a larger role in the story, I'd love them as a continuous antagonist/anti-hero who RIGHTLY points out the hypocricy of the ylisseans while still showing himself to be an empathetic and just leader. Fuck it make him in charge, put him on a council with Validar. Can you imagine the political debates between those two?
Anyway I'm gonna start reading Affectionately Yours to stimulate the part of my brain that awakening didn't
Look, I am deeply and utterly fascinated by Plegia. I have been for a long time. Roughly half my Awakening works on AO3 hinge on some extensive Plegian worldbuilding because Awakening really didn't bother with it and I'm too fascinated to leave it alone.
I have a lot of thoughts about Gangrel. I have a lot of thoughts about Validar. I have a lot of thoughts about who they could have been in different situations, and why they turned out the way they did. I honestly think that Gangrel could have been handled better in Awakening canon: I think his mother was killed by bandits when he was young according to canon? But imagine how much more potent his role in the story becomes if he lost his mother in the attempted genocide -- he was a direct victim, and that unaddressed trauma festered and turned him into the Mad King. (I have a whole post of backstory headcanons about that.) And I think that Validar is underexplored as a character, especially considering that he outright admits he's a failed attempt at creating a vessel for Grima, and what something like that would do to a person. (I have yet another post of backstory headcanons for him.)
Henry...Henry not really having something to say doesn't surprise me. Henry was a victim of basically every system he'd ever been part of. He doesn't have a stake in society, but he's culturally Plegian because it's how he was generally brought up. Tharja, though -- she I think should have things to say about the situation, because even if she does adopt a measure of disinterest in the general situation, that's her home. She's lived through these nightmares and been a witness to their aftermath. The fact that her being Plegian and how that's affected her was entirely squandered is an absolute crime.
and don't get me started on Mustafa. I love Mustafa so much. Mustafa gets a role in basically all my fics, I love him so much. He's in Affectionately Yours. He's in Cursed Fate. He's in both Crown of Shadows and Shrouded Throne. He's in my works in progress, he's in my backburner stories, he's everywhere. I absolutely adore General Mustafa and what he says about Plegia as a country, even though the game tries to pretend that people like him don't exist as soon as we finish out Chapter 11.
I have a lot of Plegia thoughts okay. And a lot of Plegia stories.
also please let me know if you have any issues getting into the fics, I locked them as a precaution against AI data scraping but I am 100% willing to unlock them if you want to read but don't have an account

AUGH
FINALLY FINISHED THE THUMBNAIL FOR MY MUSTAFA SHOWCASE.
Anyways, the next unit showcase is gonna be Mustafa, now that I foddered Ganglot’s skills on him. The theme showcase is gonna be “The Hot Wind is Blowing” from Metal Gear Rising, Khamsin’s theme. However Khamsin doesn’t actually have any official artwork or notable poses (besides the close-up screenshot of him in the mech). So I just decided to draw Mustafa in an original pose.
That’s the most complex face I’ve ever drawn.

Apologies for the lack of updates to this blog, but the past few seasons saw a share of people who were MUCH easier to beat. But now after all this time we find a proper asshole that can be given a proper "Fuck you" towards for having a bunch of units who were unnecessarily given Reposition when they shouldn't. So fuck you, Franku of whatever the NMCJ is.

My faves are Beyard and Eubans from FE7. I’ve always thought they were kinda handsome, tbh…
I also like Mustafa in Awakening. He made me sad…
You can reblog with your answer and add pics if you want! ✨

Uuuuuhhhhh please tell me one or more random thoughts/opinions you have about Fire Emblem: Awakening and/or its characters?
(I hope the spiders don't bite. 💚)
Oooh! I do find it one of the weaker Fire Emblem games, though still a lot of fun! I do really enjoy the 3DS models for the most part and MAN I love the war cleric design! Also I have a soft spot for Chrom and a few of the other characters. (Flavia ❤️)
I am going to go with something mean though. The first time I played through the map after Emmeryn’s death, the one that plays “Don’t Speak Her Name” (great song! The soundtrack is real good!) it was one of the best bunches of luck I’d had in a Fire Emblem game. Criting everywhere, a whole bunch of really good level ups, no one in danger of retreating (I play with permadeath off). I was having a BLAST! Hunted down everyone. I couldn’t be sad because I was getting so lucky.
So naturally when Mustafa went “Just please spare my men” there was definitely a moment of “Uhhhhhhhh what men?” Unironically I find that level super fun to play. There may be something wrong with me.
(And no, they just keep spinning and spinning their webs until I CAN’T SEE SHIT. But thanks 💜)
