My version of an MVC4 Roster:

I'll be real: I think I cooked with the Marvel side, but I don't know about the Capcom side. I've tried to be as unbiased as possible.

For the record, the main concern with the Marvel Roster was fixing the CRIMES commited by MvCI. Thus, the first 24 base roster characters are returning faces. I separated them in groups (Avengers, Spider-Man, X-Men, Supernatural/Magic and Cosmic) and then did Heroes, Villains and then Newcomers in each. I wanted to have a roster that would make the most people happy (if it were up to me, Captain Marvel wouldn't be here), bringing back some familiar faces (Ghost Rider but no Blackheart felt like a crime to me).

Also set myself the goal of bringing in as many cut characters from the previous ones as I could, even if they can't be base roster.

Let's be real though, I feel like Blade could sell a whole DLC pack by himself in the same vein as Vergil.

I ALMOST didn't put Deadpool here... But if Ruby Heart is Base Roster for Capcom, Cable had to be base roster too. You understand.

Speaking of which, this was CONSIDERABLY easier than the Capcom side.

Here, the point wasn't to correct anything, but rather make sure the usual suspects got represented, but leave some room for the deep cuts, so I set myself some goals:

Goal 1) CLASSIC Mega Man! He and Roll and Wily were a MUST! Zero and Vile are there for the X Series and T-Bonne for MM Legends.

Goal 2) As much gameplay diversity in SF as possible, one character for each: Ryu for 1, Chun for 2, Gil for 3, Juri for 4, Rashid for 5 and Bison is supposed to be based off his SF6 gameplay style.

Goal 3) Get the MvC2 trio back! Amingo, SonSon and Ruby Heart SHOULD be put in a Darkstalkers game in the near future for the love of GOD! Speaking of which...

Goal 5) REMIND THE WORLD THERE ARE MEN IN DARKSTALKERS! Morrigan returns, obviousIy, but as much as I love Felicia and Hsien-Ko, it's time for the boys to play! Jon Talbain, IMMEDIATELY, and Lord Raptor because I NEED the world to see him turn Thanos into a basketball and DUNK him straight to Hell! And YES, Jedah comes back! He HAS to! He's too cool not to! But the main reason I went with Jedah and not Dimitri is because Midnight Bliss would take a LOT of resources we probably already blew making sure Mystique can copy everyone without issue.

Goal 6) Resident Evil. Look, I'll make a confession: If it were up to me, there would only be Jill and Wesker here, but RE has become so MASSIVE that we HAVE to pay it the respect it deserves, so I did what I though would be a proper compromise: Jill and Wesker for RE staples, Leon for the Remakes and Lady D to represent the obligatory new Poster Monster of the franchise. Let Chris and Nemesis sit this one out and keep Jill's gameplay more like her MvC2 style and we are golden!

Goal 7) THAT DLC IS FOR THE FANS! I wanted to put in a mix of characters that Capcom fans would want first and foremost: Vergil, to continue the tradition of him being the Special Edition/DLC character, Donovan and BB Hood for more Darkstalkers love, Gil to round out the SFs, Monster Hunter because it's MASSIVE nowadays, Vile, for one more Mega Man villain and Jin and Captain Commando for the Oldies that mained them in MvC2. Full disclosure: Edward Falcon WOULD NOT BE HERE if Power Stone hadn't just announced a comeback earlier today. And Regina is here because... Well, because you Dino Crisis stans went absolutely CRAZY this year. I'm not gonna lie. You guys kinda scare me. But you wanted her, so here she is!

So yeah. If anyone asks WHY Amaterasu is Main Roster, it's because I got Rocket in there and it only felt fair. I DO regret leaving Frank West out this time, but I couldn't find a way to fit him in without taking out someone that SHOULD have been there... AND YES, LUCIA HAS TO BE THERE! She's the ONLY unique thing about DMC 2 anyone remembers! Trish can rest for a little while!

So yeah, this is what I got! Lemme know what you think and I guess I'll answer any questions you might have as to why I picked anyone or why I didn't pick soomeone else, if you want to know!

Man yknow the problem with hoping for MvC4 is that the success of the game would be totally dependent on the roster. I heard Disney might be ditching Fox or something, and normally I wouldnt give a shit about the variety of corporate schemes the Mouse is pulling but if they lose the X-Men then Magneto can’t be in MvC4 and thats kind of the darkest timeline.

Plus they dont have the nuts to just throw in weird obscure characters anymore. MvC2 had fucking Marrow and Spiral in it. MvC2 had Bone-Claw Wolverine. Fuck dude MvC2 had Servbot how the hell can they ever top that roster?

Been in a Marvel and/or Capcom mood lately so I made a fan roster for a MvC4 using a template I found. Was honestly fun. I made a few self indulgent picks but I tried to be somewhat realistic.

Thoughts on the Street Fighter 6 DLC line up

As far as Monkey's Paw wishes of the week go, I'm afraid "sick new Marvel fighting game that's promising everything people wanted out of MvC4, but it's developed by ArcSys (they make great games! I just don't care for them much), so Marvel vs Capcom is almost definitely back in the grave for at least half a decade" is gonna be an impossible bar to beat, I'm afraid.

I guess my reaction is sorta the same as last time? They put one of my favorite characters in, they put in a character I like but whose inclusion amounts to not much more than a "neat!" from me, they put in a character I did not want to see come back but I don't truly dislike and can hear out a case for, and they put in a character I actually do dislike and did not want in the game, but whose inclusion was inevitable and I'm willing to be okay with because SF6 has rarely failed to redeem a previously mediocre/lousy character so, eh, whatever. Maybe it's just me being burned-out today but honestly, none of these people are eliciting that big of a response from me, but that'll probably change when we start seeing them in action.

To be clear, Sagat is my favorite Street Fighter character, but the main reason why I'm not popping for Sagat anywhere near as much as I popped for Elena is because Sagat was inevitable. I wasn't sure whether Elena would ever get to come back and then she did better than ever, but Sagat was practically a shoe-in the moment the DLC seasons began, so it was kind of just a matter of time. I am happy to have my main back, I am very curious as to where he's gonna be at lore-wise given where they left him off in SFV, but I don't think I'm gonna be feeling that buzz until I see him in action.

Not gonna lie, I knew it was a long shot, but I still wish they brought Adon back - I mean we'll definitely see a mention of him at least via World Tour, but I miss the fucker.

Viper's back and, yeah, that tracks, they were probably gonna do that soon enough. I wrote about her before and in the process talked myself into liking her a lot more than I did before, which is still not that much. Other than Poison (who doesn't really count as such) and maybe Seth, she's like the last SFIV character left with any kind of fan demand. To be blunt, I didn't care for her being playable again, but I wanted M.Bison back a lot less even though I like him a lot more, and I was happy with the way they brought back Bison. I really like the new outfit they're showing for her here, a lot more than I ever liked her past designs, and I think Viper's uniquely utilitarian niche is a good one to have if they're gonna start moving the stories along. At the very least I'll be glad to have confirmation that Juri's side-hustle with her was a real thing.

Well, egg on my face, I guess.

So full disclosure, Ingrid has always been one of the few SF characters I actually dislike - not one of the few ones I hate, but mostly because she never actually existed until now. She was a misplaced King of Fighters leftover that they kept around as a joke/easter egg, where the whole bit was referencing her misplaced non-canon status. The strongest character and the one to truly defeat M.Bison being a boring soulless anime girl who is the goddess of everything forever something something, the one time she showed up in an Alpha 3 release, her story was a joke where the whole bit is that it would be an anti-climax if she was real, and so even those Capcom character profiles that canonized everyone, even the ARIKA characters, went out of their way to emphasize her status.

So obviously she picked up a following - generic cute anime girl goddess who permanently settles powerscaling debates, that's catnip to a lot of people - and now that I'm laying it out like this, it feels silly to think this wasn't going to happen - obviously they were gonna have to make her real at some point past the joke running it's course. They released Capcom Fighting Collection 2 last month with this little shit on the cover, they were clearly gonna do it soon.

All that said, I like that design. I mean, I hated the old one, so anything would be an improvement, but this one has a neat religious wizard vibe that I think can match well with where Psycho Power is at in the storyline and play off JP's own vibe, and now that her old joke doesn't work anymore and she needs to have at least some character traits besides "cute and vaguely powerful", it seems like she's gonna be entering as kind of basically a new character? Maybe? Idk. If they pulled the trigger on Ingrid on any other game it would suck, but I'm willing to hear out how 6 justifies her.

Alex! Neat! Love Alex, Alex is cool. I'm glad people also seem to like Alex, that whole "new protagonist" idea just never worked out but I'm glad he stuck around as a reocurring cool guy, will love to play as him.

What is HAPPENING WITH FIGHTING GAMES RIGHT NOW AAAA :D

This summer has been so cool for announcements. We got that MAHVEL FIGHTING COLLECTION which was sooooooOOO fucking crazy and hype to see. What is there to say than this being an insanely fun collection to play. Something REALLY COOL is that JP exclusive character Norimaro in Marvel VS Street Fighter is suspected to actually be here because he's included in promo art!!! THAT is so nice. Now OBVIOUSLY this collection helps bring these games to a modern era. HOWEVER... everyone is PRAYING that if this sells well, we COULD SEE MvC4... that would be a dream. And with how visually stunning Capcom is doing, they could reallyyyyy do a good MvC game.

THEN I woke up hazy one morning and was like 'oh yeaa the uh nintendo direct indie thing hhgsgshdhj' and saw a thumbnail for CAPCOM FIGHTING COLLECTION 2, LIKE WHAHAHAAAAA and the line-up is INSANE: SNK vs Capcom 2 YES Alpha 3 UPPER YES Fighting Evolution being here is CRAZY but then you got the 3D FIGHTERS: POWER STONE, RIVAL SCHOOLS (AAAA), and FREAKING PLASMA SWORD. Unlike the MvC Collection, I dunnoooo that this would lean into a new SNK vs Capcom game. We got Terry and Mai in SF6 which is super nice, but both studios are most def busy atm; SNK doing Fatal Fury is a big one. I'm 99% sure we'll see a new SNKvC someday because of these collaborations. Also new Shinkiro art ooomg...

AND NOWWW we're getting a potential leak that Guilty Gear Strive is coming to switch??? There's a big banner at PAX West. That's SO COOL, I hope Xrd REV2 gets ported too oooomg I've wanted that for so long.

It's just nice to see these games, especially the old titles, become easily accessible and more people will be able to play these amazing, quirky, fun, and outright genre defining titles. Plus that CFC2 is a MUST for my switch. I remember using my phone for MvC2 and SvC2 and playing it with an actual fightstick connected to it lololol! Me sitting in a store lugging it around while my mom shopped... I had to practice all the time, anywhere. Good times.

Rip to the deadpool 3 stuff but hey, at least the marvel vs capcom collection that has gotten out of the vault recently :3 and cable is in it! <- sorry I am on my fighting game hyperfixation, but hearing this is genuinely good news and maybe we might get mvc4 hopefully one day if it sells well

As disappointed as I am (very you all know I do not mess around when it comes to josh brolin cable LMFAO) I kinda feel like Cable in x-men 97 is some form of consolation for me too cause I think he had so many great "Cable"-y moments in that like I love when canon characterisation really aligns with the version you have in your head yk 💓🥺 idk much about video games cause I didn't play any growing up and didn't have any consoles hahaha (futurewife lore) but I do enjoy his design in marvel vs capcom! I'm always happy to see him crop up. I hope all your fighting game dreams come true :)
