The thing about Krypto in the new Superman movie is that he's a bad dog. He's a good boy, he's such a good boy, he's the goodest boy ever, but he's a bad dog.

He achieves this apparent paradox by being loyal and loving but also being smart enough to know how to be a good dog and simply declining the option. He could be a good boy and follow commands any time he wants, he just doesn't want to.

Good Boy by nature, Bad Dog by choice.

Osteon - Homebrew Lineage

The Osteon are for the most part a peaceful people, which helps distance them in the eyes of more fleshy races from the skeletons that once terrorized the land. Though they don't eat, it's common to see them working as farmers. You may think at first that seeing a skeleton in a robe with a scythe would be a bad omen, but gift baskets of freshly baked bread tend to quell that fear quickly.

This one's got a bit more flavor text than I usually give; the worldbuilding implications just kept coming and coming. Painted skeletons to play with Day of the Dead imagery, farming to play into Grim Reaper imagery. What point would farming have for a race that doesn't eat? Well, it would certainly help generate goodwill with neighbors, and that's not even getting into the possibility of raising animals specifically for their bones.

How would parenting work with a multitude of parents as well as essentially coming to life fully developed? How would their shared past affect the development of their culture? How do they source their bones? How do they dispose of dead Osteons? What do Osteons think about the lives of the creatures their bones came from?

(They don't tend to remember much if anything, even when all their bones come from a single donor.)

That being said, at a certain point you've stopped brewing a lineage and started creating a whole new world.

The thing you gotta understand about Mr. Terrific in the new Superman movie is that he is always the smartest man in the room.

And he HATES it.

It's not that he hates being smart, he just hates how he can never quite predict how dumb everyone else is.
