So, Miyachi and Katano mentioned Developer's Backyard that Season 3 will include a new battle system and as well as adding new special moves to the movesets of the current characters on the roster. I'm feeling optimistic, what about you?
My sense of Optimism is cut from a different cloth from most players.
It's not about online play, or even fresh gameplay mechanics...
Rather, it boils down to whether or not they can give EVERYONE (and that includes me) some aspect of what they really wanted...
Adding one or two new moves to a character's kit may liven things up for a while... but that's not what I'd personally call an "update".
No... if I had to make a comparison:
The transition from "Accent Core" to "Accent Core PLUS".
That was LONG BEFORE the idea for "Plus R" (which was more of a half-baked offering by comparison...)
No... what they gave us in "Plus" wasn't JUST new game mechanics...
They gave us a revamped Survival Mode, New Stories, New Missions, new Game Modes (3 on 3 Team Elimination Battles), GG Generations, revamped EX Mode, and even M.O.M. Mode got added, tweaked, and adjusted...
Most importantly, EXTRA Menu... with its full gamut of options for players to play the game in situations they've always wanted to try...
Things like:
---Infinite Tension (how creative are your Roman Cancels?)
---Vampire Mode (damage regenerates health)
---Bounce Mode (bouncing high off the floor or bouncing off walls)
---All HIts are Counterhits
---Easy Parries/Slashback/Easy Blitzshield
---Hyper Jumps/Extra Jumps
---Hyper Airdashes/Extra Airdashes
---All Attacks are Auto-Instant Blocked
---Dramatic Camera (for Strive) where all counter or clean hits cause the camera angles to be more dynamic.
---Danger Time (from Xrd) where clashed hits risk Mortal Counters for massive damage.
---Force Break Mode (moves can be enhanced or charged up through use of Tension or manually charging up like GG1)
---Comrades in Arms Mode (from GG Isuka) the idea of fighting through Arcade Mode with a constant companion at your side of your own choice... what kind of combos can you come up with?)
---Golden Boss Gauntlet, where you fight a sequence of boss-powered characters to see if you can make it all the way through.
There's a treasure trove of ideas they left behind on the back burner from older games that they simply COULD use for people to further enjoy the game...
Even just bringing in RPG-like mechanics to enhance a character's stats and tweaking their abilities (ala Robo Ky Factory) would bring more longevity to the game itself.

i will never forgive popular UT fanon for using chara as a scapegoat in the genocide run and making "sans recognizes them and attacks them on sight regardless of what run they're in" headcanons so pervasive.
mostly because "restless spirit of a long dead child who's obsessed with the concept of cosmic retribution and facing consequences for your actions" + "guy whose job is just that but he treats it on par with his hot dog sidegig" is potentially one of the most hysterical dynamics you could come up with
UPDATE: you should REALLY check out the notes on this one

Contin'd: I know that he's assessed input from the surveys and I am grateful that he's stated that he fully intends on bringing back many of the old game mechanics as well as the playable characters from past games. I just hope that that he learns from this experience and avoids these pitfalls on his next project. It may sound naive, but he cemented GG's identity and rep by being rebellious, chaotic and non-conforming towards the sensibilities of what people *thought* fighting games were.
In terms of the themes GG has had... many objected to it... and it was niche as a game BECAUSE it wasn't a popular mindset everyone had.
Everyone wanted balance. Everyone wanted Tournaments.
Everyone wanted a game that wasn't broken.
Everyone except You and ME... probably.
This is what I mean by my "Absolute World"... a world that destroys the conventions of mainstream... the "balance" of "fair play".
Is it that sinful to play as a Boss character?
Is it that sinful to play with Infinite Tension?
Or to have a huge movelist?
Or to be able to do anything any other character can and be S-Tier for it?
Better yet... is it sinful to DESTROY your opponent within 5 seconds of a match starting?
Those rebellious ideas were a hallmark of what made GG an underground hit.
Forgetting that foundation is the biggest mistake any developer could possibly make.

he says i hate everyone except you and that is addictive and that is kind of romantic and beautiful because you're young and you're kind of a sarcastic asshole too and you don't like bad boys, per say, but you don't really like good ones either. and you like that you were the exception, it felt like winning.
except life is not a romance book, and he was kind of being honest. he doesn't learn to be nice to your friends. he only tolerates your family. you have to beg him to come with you to birthday parties, he complains the whole time. you want to go on a date but - people are often there, wherever you're going. he's just so angry. about everything, is the thing. in the romance book, doesn't he eventually soften? can't you teach him, through your own sense of whimsy and comfort?
at first - you know introverts often need smaller friend groups, and honestly, you're fine staying at home too. you like the small, tidy life you occupy. you're not going to punish him for his personality type.
except: he really does hate everyone but you. which means he doesn't get along with his therapist. which means he has no one to talk to except for you. which means you take care of him constantly, since he otherwise has no one. which means you sometimes have to apologize for him. which means he keeps you home from seeing your friends because he hates them. you're the single exception.
about a decade from this experience, you'll type into google: how to know if a relationship is codependent.
he wraps an arm around you. i hate everyone except you. these days, you're learning what he's actually confessing is i have very little practice being kind.
