Falling Snow.
“if you meet somebody and your heart pounds, your hands shake, your knees go weak, that’s not the one. When you meet your ‘soul mate’ you’ll feel calm.”   - Monica Drake
Written for the prompt ‘Road Trip’ for Sukka Week 2020!!
--
Suki drummed her fingers impatiently against the steering wheel, lightly tapping her boot against the gas pedal as she forced her car inches further. The car behind her danced against the trunk of hers, causing her to angrily slam her gloved fist against the horn, the loud noise raising far above the faint music trailing from the speakers.
She squinted ahead onto the highway, sighing. The snow was so thick she could barely see the faintly glowing taillights from the car in front of her. She wasn't going anywhere tonight. Suki could probably count on one hand the amount of feet she had travelled in the past hour. She shifted the pale green coat around on her lap in an antsy manner, rubbing at her tired eyes as they blearily remained on the road before her.
What a way to end Christmas break. At this rate, it’d take her all semester to make it back to the University. She kept her foot grazing lightly over the brake as she sat there, annoyance greatening as the thick snow flakes seemed to swirl around one another in an even faster manner, taunting her frozen status.
She tugged off one of her gloves, reaching for her phone from where it had been discarded on the passenger seat. The metal was cool against her skin as she flicked open her navigation app, long route back to the school etched onto the screen. Ice warning possible. Yeah. No kidding. The characters that had read ‘five hours remaining’ a few miles ago were now raised much higher due to road closures. Near double.
She tossed the device back where she had retrieved it from, not bothering to shut the offending thing off, glow contrasting the dark car. Suki caught a hint of a reflection from a sign to her right, squinting her eyes harshly in hopes of making out the characters. The car in front of her moved a few feet forward, Suki exhaling slightly as she pulled up behind it, sign now mere feet away.
It was an exit for a single cafe that she could barely make out just off the bustling road. In fact, the only discernible sign a building was there at all was the chipped neon sign baring the name of the establishment standing in the midst of a small sea of cars.
Flipping her turning signal on without a second thought, she edged her car closer to the boarder where the concrete met the grass, now buried beneath a heap of snow, hoping to slip into the exit along with the many others who had also grown sick of being stuck in the blizzard.
——
In hindsight, Suki probably shouldn't have been surprised to find the small restaurant completely filled. After all, everyone was searching for a way off of the rapidly closing roads. She glanced around the building, the heat much too high for a room with so many people as it pressed uncomfortably into her cheeks. A Christmas song that sounded vaguely familiar rang faintly from a cracking speaker in the corner of the room, clearly as exhausted as most of the customers.
She quickly scanned the room as she took a step in from the door. Every table was packed as waiters skated between them easily, barely wasting the energy to cast her a tired glance as they passed by. Finally, her gaze landed on a booth on the far side of the cafe, filled by only a single occupant. A cool relief hit her at that. Sitting in her freezing car or forcing her way back onto the highway didn't sound like the most pleasant ways to spend her night.
He looked to be about her age, dark brown hair tied back into a messy ponytail as he buried his face into his laptop. He typed quickly, faint blue glow lighting up the way his brow furrowed in concentration. Suki sat down on the seat across from him.
Sokka looked up from his screen, slightly startled by her sudden appearance. “Uh… hi?” he offered, raising his brow towards her.
“Look, I’ve been driving in that storm for the past four hours, and I really just need a coffee. If you haven't noticed, every other table is full.” She gestured out into the room, “Can I sit here? Please?” There was less of a question in her voice than a statement, but she was too tired to pay much mind to that.
“You already did,” he said, tossing her a playful wink as he turned back to his work for a moment, making a few errant clicks on the screen.
Suki blew her bangs away from her face as she pulled off her thick winter hat, tossing it haphazardly onto the portion of the cracked plastic seat lying next to her. “Maybe I should've picked another booth,” she said, sarcasm underlining her tone.
“Hey, you're the one who chose to share, not me. I humbly allowed you to take that seat. I could’ve had friends coming, you don't know,” Sokka said, every bit as snarky as her. He shut his laptop, pushing it to the side of the table, alongside a few discarded paper cups, as he looked over to her.
Suki raised her eyebrow at him. His worn sweater, crafted from a dark blue fabric, jostled slightly as he chuckled silently.
“I said I could’ve. I didn't say I did.” He laughed at the deadpan look she flashed him at that, loudly this time as his grin poured over into his crystal blue eyes.
It felt familiar somehow. She could've sworn she’d heard that obnoxious sound somewhere before. “You’re in college right?” Suki didn't wait for him to answer, “What school do you go to?”
He crossed his arms as he leaned relaxedly onto the small table. “The University over in Republic City, why?” he asked, clearly not having recognized her in return.
“I knew I’d seen you on campus before! You’re… friends with Aang, right?” she asked, smiling slightly as she peeled her coat off of herself, the room much too warm to warrant the layer of clothing.
He nodded, “I’ve known him since high school. I’m Sokka.”
“Suki.” She gave him her name in return, letting her annoyance slip away as they settled into their seats. After all, it looked like they’d be stuck there a while. A quick glance out the dark window confirmed that the storm had gotten even worse - something Suki hadn't really thought possible - the snowflakes growing larger as they mixed in with chunks of hail.
His next sentence cut off by a waiter appearing next to them. “What can I get you?” the woman said, not bothering with formalities as she slowly tapped the pen she held against her notepad.
——
“Sorry for taking your seat,” Suki said, hands cupped around her steaming cup of coffee, heat comforting as it bored into her skin through the cheap paper cup. She took a long sip, any remnants of the chill the storm had painted on her falling away. “Actually, you were really annoying at first, so maybe I’m not that sorry.” She smiled at him as she set her drink aside.
He laughed breathily in response, only half committing to rolling his eyes. Pausing for a moment, he shrugged. “S’not a big deal. Believe it or not, it gets pretty boring sitting alone in a cafe for…” He pulled his phone from the pocket of his hoodie, tapping it awake with one swift motion. Sokka audibly groaned; “Six hours.”
“Yikes. What happened?” she asked, watching as he buried himself in his phone for a moment.
“My dumb sister just had to visit her boyfriend, so now I’m stuck here,” he said, clicking on the voicemail glaring across the screen.
Suki raised her eyebrow at him, returning to her drink as she waited for his explanation. In response to her silent prompt, Sokka hit the speaker button, allowing Katara’s voice to crack through into the buzzing restaurant, barely loud enough for both to hear despite their closeness.
“Hey Sokka. Roads are still shut down here so I’m stuck overnight. Sorry you're still waiting at the restaurant… are you sure there isn't anyway you can get back to dad’s?” The audio cut out slightly before the message ended; a tribute to the still raging blizzard outside.
Suki winced in sympathy at that as he slid the device towards the corner of the table, right next to three empty cups resembling the one she held at the moment.
“She was meant to pick me up here, since it’s on the way back to school, but apparently couldn't be bothered to leave before the storm hit,” he explains, piecing together the missing info of the situation.
“How’d you get here then?” she asks, genuinely curious.
He loudly sipped his hot chocolate before he spoke. “Bus, but clearly-“ Sokka gestured towards the wall of white pressed firmly against the small window, inside lined with fog, “- they’re all shut down by now. I don't have a chance of getting home tonight even if they do open the main road.”
“The highway is open; not that it matters with all the traffic stopped outside,” she sighed, rubbing her fist against one eye, “Guess we’re stuck here for a while, huh?”
Sokka surprisingly smiled back at her, “Could be worse.”
——
The next few hours were a blur, and honestly, Suki probably wouldn't have been able to remember the specifics the next morning. She couldn't forget how it felt though, both throwing their heads back in laughter as the stars stretched across the sky outside, far beyond the steady beat of the snow. It felt warm, and not just from the constant thrum of the heater somewhere outside the booth that temporarily served as their own private world.
She couldn't help but notice the way Sokka’s eyes would light up every time he got excited about something; which she was learning was quite often, nor the way their conversation flowed freely, jumping from one topic to the next and never dulling, never fading. He made her laugh and roll her eyes more times than she could count, her sour mood carried away with the whipping winds of the storm.
Loud as he may have been, he would always fall silent to listen to her intently, quick to counter all her arguments as their discussions brimmed with banter over more hot drinks.
“Wait wait wait,” Sokka said, his voice bringing her wandering mind back to the present, “You mean you’ve never seen The Incredibles? It’s a classic!” He put too much inflection into his voice for the simple statement, making Suki bite down on a laugh as she shook her head.
“It came out like ten years ago! You can’t call it a classic,” she returned, barely a breath passing.
She snorted at the outright offended look that passed his face. He reached into is backpack, silent as he dug around one of the dark pockets for a moment. Fishing out a pair of earbuds, he moved to grab his laptop, headphones making a clicking sound as they lightly tapped against the device. “You can say that after you’ve seen it,” he declared, “And then you can humbly apologize for being absolutely incorrect.”
He stood, crossing the booth to sit next to her so they could share the small screen. As he queued up the movie, Suki grabbed her own headphones from her coat’s pocket, roughly shoving them into the splitter poking out the side of the computer.
“Comes with having a sister,” he said, mimicking her motions as he pressed play.
The opening theme filled their ears, much louder than it should've been, and Suki settled in to the film, leaning slightly into Sokka’s side. Their sweaters brushed against one another as they both intently watched the movie begin to unfold, surroundings fading away from them like melting snow as they did.
——
The screen faded to black as the final frame of the movie played. Suki’s mouth fell open slightly as she slowly tugged her headphones away from her ears. It took her nearly a full minute of aimlessly watching the credits scroll across the screen before she finally managed to turn to face him.
She was met with an expression so snarky she couldn't help but elbow him in the side, shock fading away as she slowly returned to the small cafe.
He laughed, halfheartedly rubbing at his side where she’d attacked. “I was right. You loved it.” Sokka’s smile was subtler now, more genuine as he shut the film off.
She let out a breathy sigh. “Yeah, okay. I’ll admit it; it’s a classic.”
Sokka stood to return to his seat set across from her, excited expression still dancing over his features as he shoved his computer back into his stuffed backpack.
The space next to Suki went cold as he moved away, despite the constant heat pouring from the building. She found a small part of herself missing the warm, comfortable way they had relaxed together.
“If we ever actually make it back… you should come to my dorm sometime to watch the sequel. I think you’d like it,” he said, stretching his arms tiredly behind his head.
“I’d like that.” Stifling a yawn, she turned her gaze over to the small window to her right.
The snowflakes now danced slowly downward, freezing midair for a fleeting moment on their path. They no longer created a picture made of solid white. She noticed she could see all the way out to the highway now, the rows of cars now thrumming in constant motion.
She dragged her eyes around the room, the quick gesture confirming that their table was one of the last ones filled, everyone else having filed back out into the cold long ago. Suki couldn't for the life of her recall if it had been before or after the movie started.
Sokka’s gaze followed hers to the window, his smile cracking slightly, “You should probably get going, huh?” Neither needed their devices to tell them it was long after midnight.
Suki nodded, standing to pull her coat back on, the melted snow long dried by now. “Yeah. Still a few hours back to campus. Thanks, Sokka.”
He turned back to his phone as he spoke, “Hope I see you around then.”
She frowned, feeling slightly guilty about just leaving him stuck there the rest of the night. After a moment of hovering next to the booth, Suki wanted to smack herself for taking so long to speak her next sentence; the obvious solution. “Come with me.”
Sokka smiled after a moment, looking up to meet her eyes, “You sure?” She nodded. “Thanks, Suki.”
He slung his bag over his shoulder, quickly packing up his things as they began to exit the building. The remaining staff cast them tired glances on their way out; evidently glad to have less customers to deal with as late as it was.
She shivered as the harsh winter air slammed against her, wind picking up in her ears as they stepped out of the warm light. She cast Sokka a look out of the corner of her eye, “You really don't have a coat? Aren’t you freezing?” Her voice was louder than intended as it cut through the silent parking lot.
“We used to live pretty far up north, guess I got used to the cold.” In contrast to his words, he shrugged deeper into his sweater. Suki rolled her eyes as she opened her car’s door.
The second they escaped the frigid air into the small car, Sokka snatched the aux cord from where it was tangled on one of the seats, quickly plugging it into his phone.
Suki snorted at that, “Way to takeover my car,” she said, flicking on the heat as she started towards the highway.
Sokka didn't miss a beat with his reply; “Way to takeover my booth.” They both laughed softly at that, silence falling over them for a moment as he searched for ‘the perfect song’.
As they merged into one of the lanes, headlights cutting a path for them through the night, the all too familiar chords made their way through the air. “No. You are not playing this song.” Suki was glad it was too dark for him to see the smile she was fighting off her lips.
Sokka merely smirked in return, beginning to jokingly sing along to the male vocals of the song, “Baby it’s cold outside,” he started, elbowing her to join in.
“It’s not even Christmas!” She talked over the radio as she forced herself to keep from laughing at the way Sokka dramatically mimicked holding a microphone.
“I’ll hold you hands, they’re just like ice,” He couldn't keep a straight face to hit the right note at the end of that lyric. “C’mon Suki, you know you wanna.”
She sighed halfheartedly, turning up the volume as she joined in, the pair laughing every bit as much as they were singing (something neither of them were particularly skilled at). The notes poured through the car, making the long journey before them seem a little less tedious as they lost themselves in the rhythm.
——
The song came to a close, and honestly, Suki had lost count of how many they had flipped through, a portion of their journey already behind them. She coughed into the silence as Sokka searched for the next one, throat tired from belting out the familiar lyrics to old Christmas songs.
“Suki, look!” His voice startled her slightly after the few minutes of fragile quiet. He eagerly gestured out the window to a vibrant neon sign splashed bright against the darkened sky, snow lightly grazing the letters boasting the name of the cafe; not unlike the one they had just parted from. “We have to stop there for hot chocolate!”
“We’ve only been driving for, like twenty minutes! We’re not stopping.” She laughed breathily as she shook her head.
“But they make the best flavours! Please? Dad used to take Katara and I there all the time growing up,” he countered, eyes still locked on the passing building.
“Sokka, it’s two thirty in the morning, do you really think it’s still open?”
Sokka’s mouth fell open, a protest dying on his lips as he took in the darkened windows. She was right. His mouth fell shut into a frown as he sighed slightly.
The building disappeared into the night behind them, and vast fields took its’ place to their side as they continued silently biting into their journey. The roads were mostly empty now, a few blips of light only crossing their paths inconsistently; most were wisely home by now.
After a few minutes of driving quietly, Sokka finally smiled, turning to fully look at Suki. “I’ll just have to take you there next year then.”
——
The sun spilled over the edge of the horizon as it rose, bathing the parking lot in a soft glow as it crested against the mounds of snow shoved to the sides. The familiar buildings that made up their university towered on all sides of them, now lying completely silent at the early hour as Sokka pulled into a free spot.
He reached over to the passenger seat, gently shaking Suki’s shoulder to wake her. “Suki? We’re here.”
She slowly forced herself to sit up, stretching her neck as she did so. Turns out sleeping curled up in a moving car isn't the most comfortable thing in the world. She yawned, “What time is it?”
“Too early to be awake,” he muttered, still smiling regardless of how exhausted he felt. Sokka slung his backpack over his arm, stumbling slightly as he stepped outside, cool air refreshing as it sent a jolt of energy through him.
Suki grabbed her own things, not bothering to put her winter jacket back on as she fell out into the morning air.
“Thank you,” Sokka said quietly, “For everything.”
Her lips turned up into a smile, “Never thought I’d have that much fun getting stuck in a blizzard.”
Their eyes remained locked for a long second that seemed to freeze time for a fleeting moment. Blue met violet and swirled together in a beautiful painting.
Sokka cleared his throat finally, ducking his head as he turned to head towards his building, footsteps echoing loudly as he did.
Suki did the same, after a few paces calling out, “I don't want to wait till next Christmas for our first date though!” She didn't have to turn around to see his goofy smile.

Hazbin Hotel: Yandere Alastor x Vaggie Chapter 43
Tears of happiness poked at the edges of Vaggie’s eyes as she squealed her girlfriend’s name, “Charlie!”
“Hey, Vaggie!” Charlie said cheerfully.  “I’m sorry I’m late!  But I’m here now!  I’ll take care of this, so don’t you worry!”
Happy tears fell from Vaggie’s eyes as she silently nodded while handing Molly back her phone.
In the car behind them, Alastor narrowed his eyes and growled while opening another hole of tentacles on the side of the road that Charlie also burned up before they could reach the limo.
In a second, Charlie transformed into her demon form complete with horns and said to Vaggie in a distorted voice, “Get down, Vaggie.  This is going to get ugly.”
“Okay, Charlie, but be careful,” Vaggie warned.
“Don’t worry about me,” Charlie replied.  “Worry about protecting yourself and everyone in the car.  I’ll be fine, Vaggie.  I’ll handle this and get us home.”
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep, princess…” a sinister voice crackled through the radio.
“ALASTOR!” Charlie shrieked.  “LEAVE MY GIRLFRIEND AND MY FRIENDS ALONE!”
A laugh track following Alastor’s terrifying laugh played over the radio before Alastor responded, “Princess, do you really think I’ll give up on pursuing my fiancée just like that?  I have claimed Vaggie for myself.  It doesn’t matter to me that you and she were together before I came into the picture.  Vaggie is mine.”
Vaggie shuddered fearfully, prompting Molly to sit her down and give her a supportive hug.
“You’re wrong!” Charlie snapped back.  “Vaggie is mine!  She will never ever be yours!  I don’t care how powerful you are!  If you think I’ll even let you touch her again, you have another thing coming!”
“Hahaha!  Talk is cheap, little Charlie,” Alastor said maliciously summoning his voodoo familiars from the ground surrounding his car as a static cloud grew around him and the Spider Family who were shuddering in their seats.  “And, as my Mother would say, actions speak louder than words!”
The static cloud and the swarm of voodoo familiars flew through the ground and the air towards the limo in front of them.
“Oh, shit,” Vaggie muttered as her eyes grew as wide as saucers.  “Cherri, step on it!”
“You don’t have to tell me twice,” Cherri quipped seeing the disaster following behind them through the rearview mirror.
Cherri promptly slammed on the gas to gain some distance.
In the meantime, Charlie opened rifts of fire behind the limo, quickly separating her group from Alastor’s.
“Oh, shit!” Henroin screamed, swerving the car to the side and pressing on the brakes.
Henroin pressed on the brakes causing the car to swerve and stop on its shotgun side, just barely avoiding falling into the pit.
Henroin put the car in park and hyperventilated at the wheel.
“Dammit,” Arackniss said looking into the fiery pit.  “What do we do now?”
“Leave it to me,” Alastor said.
Then with a snap of his fingers, Alastor used his magic to create a road over the fiery pits.
Meanwhile, back in the limo, everything was going smoothly.  The roads were unobstructed, and everyone was finally starting to breathe.
Charlie continued creating fiery pits behind the limo as it sped away.  Vaggie and Molly sat down inside the limo under the sunroof while Cherri continued speeding down the road.  Angel laid down on the backseat with his eyes closed.
Molly rubbed Angel’s head, held his hand, and said, “Hey, Angel.  Charlie’s here and she’s helping us get away.  When you wake up, we’ll be back at the hotel.”
“Go, Charlie, go,” Angel muttered without opening his eyes.
“Angie?” Cherri asked in concern.  “Angie, how are you still awake?”
Angel’s eyes fluttered open and he exclaimed, “Vaggie, you need to come back to my fluffy tits!  You still need to hide!”
“Angel, get a hold of yourself,” Vaggie replied annoyedly while laying his hand on his shoulder.
“I’m trying, babe, but I can’t stay awake,” Angel said, grabbing onto Vaggie’s hand.  “I can’t keep you safe anymore.”
Vaggie squeezed Angel’s hand, smiled, and replied, “Angel, you’ve done enough to keep me safe.  Don’t worry.  We can take care of things from here.”
The serum finally took hold of Angel, and he was quickly losing consciousness.
“Okay, Vaggie,” Angel said slowly.  “Whatever happens.  Promise me you’ll kick ass.”
Vaggie smiled warmly and said, “I promise, Angel.”
“And one more thing…” Angel said as he shut his eyes and drifted away.  “Thank you for not leaving me.”
“Ditto,” Molly added.
“Sleep tight, buddy,” Cherri called out from the front seat.  “We’ll get you home.”
Angel then completely lost consciousness and drifted off to sleep.
“You’re welcome, Angel,” Vaggie said with a warm smile as she covered him with the straitjacket.
“Oh, my God…” Cherri muttered fearfully, prompting Molly and Vaggie to immediately look through the window.
To their horror, an innumerable swarm of voodoo doll familiars were jumping and climbing and practically flying through the pits despite the flames.
“Charlie!” Vaggie yelled through the sunroof.
“I see them, Vaggie,” Charlie replied.
Charlie summoned more fire that consumed the voodoo familiars at first.  But as suddenly as it started, the fire extinguished and the pit returned to road.
“What?” Charlie almost whispered as she every fire pit she summoned kept getting extinguished.
“Charlie?!” Vaggie asked poking her head through the sunroof.  “Charlie, what’s going on?!”
“I have no idea!” Charlie yelled in a panic as she desperately created another pit of fire only to have it extinguished immediately as the swarm of voodoo familiars passed harmlessly over.
The familiars were gaining on them, and no one could figure out what was happening until Charlie heard a familiar voice yell her name.
“CHARLOTTE!”
Everyone in the car looked up to see Lucifer, the King of Hell, flying over the vehicle with his large black fallen angel wings.
“DAD?!  WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!” Charlie yelled fearfully pausing only for a moment before snarling and angrily throwing fireworks in his direction.  “Stay the fuck out of our way!”
Lucifer masterfully dodged the fireworks and unflappably replied, “Upholding my end of the bargain.”
“What bargain?!” Charlie asked.  “What are you talking about?!”
“Our bargain of course,” Alastor’s voice called out from down the road.
Charlie, Molly, Vaggie, and Cherri looked behind them to see that, to their horror, Alastor was rising on a summoned pit of his tentacles while Henroin and Arackniss were driving behind him on the road summoned to traverse the pit.
“Oh, shit,” Vaggie muttered in a terrified whisper.
Vaggie’s voice shook Charlie out of her fearful stupor.  She summoned fire on both of her hands and prepared to strike at Alastor.
Unfortunately, before Charlie could strike, Alastor opened a pit of tentacles directly under the car.  The tentacles wrapped around Charlie and the limo.
Then, before the ladies in the car could fight back, Alastor telekinetically shut off the car, closed the tentacle pit, and allowed the limo to drop onto the road, knocking Vaggie unconscious in the process when her head slammed against the limo’s ceiling.
“Vaggie!” Molly yelled as she crawled over and desperately tried to shake Vaggie awake.  “Vaggie!  Wake up!”
“Goddammit,” Cherri said, summoning bombs in her hands.
The car Henroin was driving finally arrived on the other side of the pits just as Alastor was telekinetically opening the car doors.
Alastor then telekinetically lifted an unconscious Angel and began pulling him out of the car.
“No…” Molly said, trying to grab him.
“Wait,” Cherri said.  “If this is our last stand, we need to plan this out.  Let him go for now.”
Molly reluctantly obeyed and allowed Alastor to telekinetically move Angel out of the car and over to where he was standing.
“Angel!” Charlie cried struggling desperately against the restraints her father had her in.  “Don’t hurt him, please!”
“Hush!” Lucifer chided.
“What’s wrong with Angel?” Arackniss asked, hopping out of the car.  “Did he get knocked out?”
Alastor briefly smelled Angel’s fur while he hovered in front of him and said, “No, it seems that he’s been drugged.  Valentino’s doing no doubt.”
BAM!
Without a warning, a bomb exploded between Alastor and the Spider Family.  Shots of bazookas followed the gunfire, covering the area completely in smoke.
“Go, go, go!” Cherri yelled at Molly as she dashed through the smoke with her guns blazing and grabbed Angel.
Unfortunately, before either of them could get much further, Alastor’s tentacles grabbed Molly and Cherri and held them still.
Lucifer then summoned a wind that blew the smoke away.
“Thank you, your highness,” Alastor said with a bow before turning back to Henroin and Arackniss who were now standing in front of him a couple yards away.  “Now, where were we?  Oh, yes…”
Alastor telekinetically flew Angel to the Spider Family and said, “I do believe this mess belongs to you.”
“Thanks, Alastor,” Henroin said, lifting his arms in expectation.
“Oh, there’s no need for that,” Alastor said, flying Angel above their heads and into the backseat of the car behind them.  “I’ll simply move him back into your limo once we return to the mansion.”
Alastor snapped his fingers and released the tentacles restraining Cherri and Molly.
As soon as she hit the ground, Cherri summoned some more bombs, ran towards the car, and yelled, “Let go of Angel or I’ll blow you to kingdom come!”
Alastor smiled maliciously as he snapped his fingers again and the straitjacket that was lying on the floor of the limo instantly teleported onto Cherri, restraining her arms instantly.  He snapped his fingers again and the bombs teleported into the sky where they harmlessly exploded without hurting anyone while Molly watched helplessly.
Alastor then telekinetically pushed Cherri to Arackniss who held her in place.
“Do with this young firecracker what you wish,” Alastor said.  “Though if I may make a suggestion, I think you should sell her to Sir Pentious.  He couldn't give me anything I wanted for Angel, but his weapons and technology may be of use for you."
“Excellent idea,” Henroin said with a wicked smile.  “Arackniss, get her in the car.”
“Yes, Dad,” Arackniss said, grabbing onto Cherri’s shoulders as he opened the door to the back seat.
Cherri refused to move and struggled viciously against the restraints of her straitjacket.
“LET ME GO, YOU FUCKING BASTARDS!” Cherri screamed as she twisted and bucked against Arackniss’s grip, unable to escape his strength despite his slightly smaller stature.
Alastor snapped his fingers again and Cherri was teleported under Angel's torso.  The dead weight held her down so that she couldn't move.  Molly stood there helplessly trying to find a solution while Charlie struggled against the tentacles’ hold.
Arackniss opened the car door, put the seatbelt around Cherri, and said, “We can’t thank you enough for your generosity, Alastor.  Are ya sure there’s nothing we can give ya in return?”
Cherri thrashed against this additional restraint and snarled, “Keep your fucking hands of me, ya piece-of-shit!”
Arackniss turned to Cherri, shut the car door, leaned against it, and said, “Listen here, girly.  Ya need to watch that mouth if ya know what’s good for ya.  If I were you, sugar, I wouldn’t be so nasty.  Besides…”
Arackniss reached into the car and stroked a hand against Cherri’s face before he finished, “…you’re a cutie.  In exchange for a good time, I might consider letting you go…”
“ARACKNISS!” Henroin and Molly both snapped at once.
“What?” Arackniss replied, turning to his Dad and not noticing Cherri sink her teeth into his hand.  “Can’t I ever get anything good out of these…OWWWWWWWWWWW!”
Cherri quickly let go of Arackniss’s injured hand and spat in his face, forcing him to reel back from his perch.
“Not in your afterlife, jackass!” Cherri snarled.
Alastor chuckled and said, “Just be sure to keep Angel and his friends under your thumb and away from my bride.”
“Can do,” Henroin replied, walking back to the car.  “Now go get your bride and let’s get ya home.  Come on, Molly.”
“Like Hell!” Molly snarled.
“Excuse me?” Henroin asked, turning on his heels and stopping in his tracks.
“I wish I could say that this surprises me, but it doesn’t,” Molly chided as she strode right into her father’s face.  “Every time I think you two couldn’t have gone any lower, you always manage to go even deeper.  And now, you’re going to torture my twin brother!”
“It’s for Anthony’s own good,” Henroin replied with a shrug.
“Bullshit,” Cherri shrieked from the car.
Alastor snapped his fingers and a gag covered Cherri’s mouth.
“Let Cherri go, you sons-of-bitches!” Molly cried.
Meanwhile, Vaggie had come to in the limo.  She saw the scene around the corner of the door and watched Molly as she continued to make her protest.
Vaggie looked up at Lucifer, who was watching the scene with amusement, and Charlie, whose eyes immediately locked with hers.
With tears of desperation flowing down her cheeks, Charlie gestured with her head for Vaggie to run.  Vaggie wanted to stop and protest, but she knew she didn’t have the time or the choice.
As the argument between Molly and her father and brother continued, Vaggie managed to sneak to the front of the car unnoticed, shut the doors carefully and quietly, got the car out of park, and stepped on the gas.
It was then that Alastor finally noticed what was happening.  He summoned more of his voodoo doll familiars and immediately sent them dashing after the limo.
As everyone watched wordlessly, Charlie opened a large rift of fire to try to keep the familiars away.
Unfortunately, as soon as the rifts were opened, Lucifer closed them again allowing the familiars to catch up to the limo and use their combined strength of numbers to lift the limo off the ground.
“Dammit!” Vaggie yelled out in frustration as the familiars popped the tires and placed the limo back on the road.
Alastor instantly teleported over to the driver’s side and opend the door.
Vaggie glared at Alastor with all the hatred she had in her being and snarled, “I hate you.”
Alastor scoffed with an amused smirk and replied, “Give it time, dear.”
Alastor then blew a red mist onto Vaggie’s face.  Vaggie tried to wave it away as she coughed and started to blink drowsily.
Charlie quickly realized what was happening and yelled, “VAGGIE!!!” before Alastor covered her mouth with part of the tentacle.
Molly shook out of her stupor and tried to dash over to help Vaggie, but her father held her back and wouldn’t let her go.
“Alastor!” Molly cried.  “What are you doing to Vaggie?!”
Vaggie fainted where she sat, and Alastor picked her up in his arms and replied, “Regaining my side of the bargain.”
Alastor teleported with his bride back to the side of the car while summoning a portal to Valentino’s building that his familiars immediately shoved the limo through before returning to their shadow forms and disappearing.  He looked at Vaggie’s sleeping face with a contented smile and lovingly moved her hair out of her face before telekinetically opening the car door.
“My bride and I are ready to return to the manor, Henroin,” Alastor said as he climbed in and took his seat.
“You got it,” Henroin said, shutting Alastor’s door and walking back to the wheel of the car.  “Molly, get in the car!  You can cram in the back with Arackniss.”
“Fuck you!” Molly screeched.
“What did you just say to me?!” Henroin snarled.
“You heard me!” Molly retorted.  “You are no longer my father!  You are dead to me!  I’d rather walk across all of Hell than ride in a car with you!”
Molly then turned around and started walking away as Henroin snapped, “That is not a request, ya dumb broad!  Alastor, could ya help me?!”
“Say no more,” Alastor said snapping his fingers without removing his gaze from his sleeping beauty’s peaceful face.
Alastor snapped his fingers and Molly instantly teleported to the middle seat in the backseat under Angel and buckled her in with the seatbelt.
“Fuck all of you!” Molly snarled as Arackniss climbed in the car next to her.
“Alrighty, everyone,” Alastor said merrily.  “It’s time for us to be going.  Thanks again for your help, Lucifer.”
“You are quite welcome, Alastor,” Lucifer said.  “Now, let go of my daughter and go on your way.”
Alastor snapped his fingers, allowing Charlie to fall onto the road.
Charlie angrily got to her feet and attempted to dash to the car only for her father to hold her back.
“That’s enough, Charlotte,” Lucifer chided.
Charlie fought against her father’s arms and yelled in desperate anger, “ALASTOR, YOU’RE FIRED!”
Alastor looked up from his position in the car, flashed a large smile, and teleported in front of Charlie.
“Dear,” Alastor began with a patronizing smirk.  “As I recall, our agreement was that I would help you with the hotel as long as I returned.  Was it not?  I still desire to help out, so I will continue to help out as much I desire.”
“I can make a deal,” Charlie pleaded.
“Charlotte!” Lucifer yelled, summoning his wings and flying them both in the air to get away from Alastor.  “I won’t let you make a deal with any overlord!  Now, stop being so fucking stupid!  I apologize for this, Alastor.”
Alastor chuckled merrily and said, “Don’t worry about it, your majesty.  Just keep your daughter away from me and my beautiful wife until the day after the wedding unless she has a real change of heart and we’ll call it even.”
“Agreed,” Lucifer replied.  “Enjoy the rest of your night.  I’ll see you at the wedding.”
Alastor bowed his head a final time and said, “See you then.  Have a wonderful night, you two!  Let’s go, Henroin.”
Without another word, Henroin turned on the car and drove back to the manor on the now-restored road.
When the car was out of sight, Charlie summoned her wings, broke out of her father’s grip, turned to face him with her glowing red eyes and tear-soaked face, and said, “Dad, how could you?!”
Lucifer sighed and replied, “When you’re in power over a kingdom such as mine, there are sacrifices you have to make to keep order.  That, and frankly, your efforts to redeem these sinners with that hotel of yours are fucking embarrassing.”
“FUCK YOU!” Charlie screeched before turning to fly over to the manor only for her to freeze in place.  “Dad, what are you…?”
“If you won’t willing keep yourself safe away from Alastor,” Lucifer said flying in front of Charlie and summoning a portal to his castle as his dark energy held her in place.  “I have no choice but to use force.”

Not Without You (Canon-Divergence Stucky Fix-It-Fic)
Three:
Steve knew that the half-broken bungee cords weren't going to securely hold his bike to the roof of the van. He also knew that he didn't necessarily trust his motorcycle being on the roof of the van. Especially not with whatever-the-fuck was in the back of it. What if there was a leak and dripped into the van and onto the machine and caused the whole thing to blow up? What if the van imploded? That could happen, right? Shrink to the point of nonexistence?
Live a little, Stevie.
So, Steve drove a little more cautiously as he pulled out of the lot. Only once the gate closed though, did he let out a breath he had been holding. Feeling as though he had gotten away with a crime, all the while checking the mirrors at every opportunity until he turned the corner and could no longer see the buildings at all. For a second, he was sure that sirens would be seen flashing behind him.
"You act like you've never broken the law before," Cassie scoffed when Steve pulled up to the curb.
With the binoculars hanging around her neck, she crossed in front of the van to the driver side. Steve was already untying his bike as he ignored her comment. Even though that didn't stop her from continuing, "I mean, in history class we learned that you falsified your enlistment papers."
"They teach that in schools now?" Steve asked, quirking a brow.
"School," Cassie nonchalantly shrugged while she slid into the driver seat, "Or reddit. Plus, there was that whole, 'Wanted Fugitive,' thing."
Playfully, Steve rolled his eyes and pushed the motorcycle to line up with the front of the van. Choosing to not argue on the matter, Steve instructed, "Follow me, okay? We gotta head to my site and pick up my things. Then, I'm driving."
"Got it," Cassie agreed, with a large shit-eating grin. As she started the van, she noticed how that little board with all the buttons was lighting up and she asked, "Did it do this with you?"
"Yeah, but I wasn't going to mess with it," Steve shrugged, slinging one leg over the bike's body. "Figured I'd wait until Ton--"
Before he could even tell her not to, she was carefully selecting a few buttons. It only took a couple of seconds, so Steve couldn't even advise against it. Then, there was a whirring noise and lights flickering throughout the machine in the back.
Quickly, Steve hopped off his Harley and grabbed Cassie, in case the thing exploded. Or imploded. Or any other type of -loded on this choose your own adventure of fuckery. Steve didn't know. But he really wasn't going to wait and find out. Too many people had already been taken thanks to him, he wasn't about to let another one be taken too.
"What did you do?" Steve asked, looking over the van in hopes that he'd be able to stop whatever it was that was currently happening, but didn't know how. It felt like Thanos all over again. And suddenly, Steve was finding it very difficult to breathe. Just like before. Just like back when he was small and frail and sick and nothing was right, but everything was because Bucky was there and Bucky made everything right.
Breathe with me, Stevie. Inhale with me. Exhale with me. Easy peasy! That's all ya gotta do. Just breathe with me.
Following Bucky's instructions that were only a memory now, Steve thickly swallowed. Hoping that due to what was happening with the van, Cassie wouldn't notice the tears that prickled at the corners of his eyes. Thankfully, he seemed to have a little luck left after all as she was completely absorbed by the machine.
In the blink of an eye, the back doors blew open and Steve jumped in front of Cassie to shield her with his body. He might not have been Captain America anymore, but he'd be damned if he allowed anyone to get hurt when he could've prevented it. When a hard thud and a car horn blared while tires screeched as someone slammed on their brakes, Cassie peeked her head over Steve's arm.
"Dad?" Cassie asked, fighting her way out of Steve's loose hold and protective arms.
"Dad?" Steve questioned, whipping around to see an unbalanced Scott Lang hobble out of traffic. Quickly, he rushed over to the man, just as Cassie had.
"Dad?" Cassie repeated, placing her hands on either side of Scott's face.
Scott's brows furrowed, but he didn't say anything. Cassie wrapped her arms around his shoulders in a hug that broke Steve's heart. It didn't even take a second for Scott to return the hug and wrap his arms around the teen's slim waist.
As they stood in that embrace, Scott looked over the disheveled landscape. Steve wondered what he was seeing. For Steve, and for Cassie, they had five years to get used to it. For Scott though, this was all new to them. Soon after, Cassie pulled back to look at his face again. Not that Steve could blame her. He knew that he'd be doing the same.
"What the hell happened?" Scott finally asked looking between Cassie and Steve. Only for him to finally recognize him with his nomadic beard, "Cap... tain America?"
"Steve," he gently corrected. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he decided, "We can talk about what happened on the way."
"On the way where?" Scott questioned, redirecting his gaze to Cassie and tenderly wiping her tears as he marveled, "How'd ya get so big, peanut?"
Cassie wetly scoffed, "That's what'll happen in five years."
All the questions were there in Scott's expression, but he didn't voice any of them. Not yet. So, Steve gestured towards the vehicles and repeated, "We can talk about it on the way."

Writing: Runaway
Written by Talvin Muircastle in 2013.
WARNING: contains references to attempted suicide.
Jenna started running. She ran toward the river, and in the blink of the eye she was on the other side of the river.  She started running along the bank toward the marina, and suddenly there she was, still running.  She ran through the market section, skipping through the crowds, eliciting shrieks of alarm as she popped in and out of thin air.  She ran toward the docks, and she stopped by the off-ramp of the interstate.  She waited until she saw a big truck coming, and she ran out in front of it.  She almost stopped, even as the truck slammed on the brakes and laid on the horn.  But her nerve broke, and she ran again.   She came to rest on top of the Maywether Building.   She plopped down with her back against one of the gargoyles, pulled her hoodie up against the wind, and muttered, “Freak.  Stupid Freak.  Can’t even kill yourself right.”  She wiped her eyes on the sleeve of her sweatshirt and stared out over the city. *thump!*  She jerked a bit and looked off to her right.  A man was standing there in a white formfitting suit with brown boots, brown cape, and a hooded mask that covered everything except his eyes and mouth. He smiled and bowed to her. “Oh, great!” she muttered, “the spandex-and-cape boys found me!  Which one are you?  I don’t follow that stuff.” The man looked a bit taken aback and said, “March Hare, at your service!  I have been following your trail for a bit.  Quite a power you have there!  So, are you a hero or a villain?”  He smiled in a weak attempt to show this was a joke. “I’m a freak.  But at least I don’t dress like one.”  She looked away.  A sigh, and then he plopped down with his back against the next gargoyle, his legs stretched out toward her.   “These old legs can’t hop like they used to.  Wish I had your power: I have to jump the old-fashioned way, you might say.  You skip through all that, it seems.  How far can you teleport?” She tried to ignore him, but he just sat there and waited patiently for an answer.  Finally, “If I can see it, I can run to it. That’s how I got to the city: I ran at the TV.  Anything to get out of there.  Dad was drunk again.”  She clamped her mouth shut—that was more than she had intended to say.   “Huh.”  He stretched his legs a little and asked, “The Moon?” “Never tried, duh.”  Dimly she thought that might be a good way to off herself, but then she shied away from the idea. “So, you are…thirteen?” “Fourteen.” “Apologies.  Fourteen.  And do you have a name?” She smiled without humor.  “Sure, just like you do.  Call me Runaway.” The March Hare laughed.  “Hey, that’s one step closer to spandex and a cape!  This is progress!” One finger.  “Fuck off.” “No, no, no, no.  You have to put some passion into it.  More exposition.”   His voice deepened dramatically, “Too many times you have annoyed me, March Hare!  But at last I have perfected my Middle Finger of Doom! The past matters not, Hero!  This time, you are going to Fuck Off Once And For All! MWAHAHAHAHAH! You know, like that.” This was just too much. She curled up into a ball and laughed and cried.  Here she was, a freak of nature, running away from home, trying to end it all, and a fat old guy in spandex tights and a cape was making jokes.  He handed her a brown and white handkerchief out of a pouch on his utility belt and she blew her nose.  Finally she asked, “Look, do you have to wear spandex?  I mean, I guess it looks good on some people, but, dude, gross!” He looked down at his belly with a rueful headshake.  “See, there is this nice Italian restaurant down by the wharf.  Got to where every time I completed a successful mission I would stop in and celebrate.  Time went on, I won more battles on the street than I lost, which meant I gained more at the table than I lost.  You shoulda seen me when I was thirty!  I was voted Tightest Buns This Side Of The River that year.  They even put them on the cover of a local magazine.  Now when I am asked to autograph a copy of that picture I feel kinda embarrassed about it. Yeah, I keep thinking maybe a change is in order, but I have gotten kinda used to the old rags.” Sirens below.  A block down, the fire department was pulling up to one of the parking garages, and cops were all over the place.  She didn’t see any fire…”There!  Somebody’s gonna jump!”  A figure had climbed over the fence on the top level of the garage and was looking down at the chaos below. “Stay here, kid.”  The March Hare got up and, squatting down, pushed off with an “oomph”.  He sailed over to the parking garage and started moving carefully along the ledge toward the jumper.  She watched, fascinated.   That coulda been me, she thought.  It looks so stupid from here.   The woman reached for March Hare’s hand.  She slipped.  He grabbed, barely holding on.  Jenna got up, sprinted across the roof, turned, and before she could change her mind, ran straight at the edge.  She jumped— OhShitThereSheIsGrabHerOhShitWe’reFallingKeepRunningRunningOnAirOhShit— They sprawled on the asphalt, and she went rolling.  Paramedics and cops were running toward them, and some guy with a badge bent over her, “Hey, kid, are you OK?”  She scrambled to her feet, pulling her hoodie close around her face.  “Calm down, not gonna hurt you, how the hell did you do that?”  She started running again, and when a cop jumped out and tried to grab her, she skipped away. Back on the Maywether Building, watching as the ambulance pulled out, then the firetrucks, then the police cars and the news vans.   *thump* “Good save there, Hero.”  No mockery in his voice, “My old heart about stopped when she slipped out of my hand.” “Thanks, MH.” He sat down across from her again.  “You ready to talk about it?  Your Dad, your abilities…anything?” She sighed and looked out toward the river.  “Anything.  Maybe even everything.  But I want some Italian first.  I earned it.  You’re buying.”  This earned a chuckle and a salute from the Hare.   “You know, I am getting old for this business.  Today almost proved it.   Been meaning to find a partner, an apprentice-like, who could help me out.  Train her up in the way a Hero should go, maybe help her find a better situation than the one she was in?” She nodded, “Yeah…yeah, maybe.  But I am not wearing spandex!” His voice was light, “And the hearts of a million teenage boys were broken, but I can live with their suffering.  Something more practical, and I can use that as an excuse to redo my own image.   The bullets kinda sting when they bounce off nowadays, so maybe some body armor.  It’s a deal.” “And you are going on a diet.” He made a face, “Who’s running this outfit anyhow?  Ah, never mind.  You’ve got me.  You get good Italian food, and I get…the heart healthy menu.  Bleh. So, do you have a name, or do I just call you Alice?” “Jenna.” “OK, Jenna.  I’m Frank.” “Yeah?  Well I can be, too.  Which is how you’re going on a diet.” “Ow!  It burns!”

Forever Fall
(This is part 10)
There’s something eerie about a silent city. San Francisco was never quiet. Honking horns, the hum of electricity, the creak and thumps of the cable cars, the dulcet tones of good musicians, the jarring tones of bad ones. Now there was only the sound of wind... wind, and hooting owls. I’d heard there were some horned owls in the area, but I’d never actually heard them hoot before.
I sighed, and pushed on the screen in front of my window until it popped. Alex’s snore could be easily heard; his window was open too. How did he sleep through his own noise? I carefully pulled the screen in and set it on the floor before tossing the rope out. Funny. Dad always said that adventurers needed rope. Endless uses. He even showed me a few of the knots the boy scouts used when I was younger.
I guess he taught me well, because climbing down the knotted rope was actually pretty easy. I took a steadying breath at the bottom: thinking about dead family would only slow me down. I needed to be stronger than this.
How strong does one need to be to take down a tank? I hiccoughed a quiet laugh. I was crazy to do this. But it was me, or Alex. And no way was I going to let Alex risk himself like that. I trotted down the street, mentally double checking I’d done everything right.
I was wearing black clothes, and had wiped mascara on my face. My hands, I’d covered with black gloves, though they were a few sizes too large. That was okay. I was going to take them off when I needed to use my hands, anyways. I’d tied the rope to the door, which I’d never closed before in my life, so it wouldn’t be out of place just sitting open. if Alex wandered, he’d be going the other way to the bathroom and kitchen, so there was no reason for him to wander towards my room. As far as I knew, he hadn’t done that since he was six, and I was four.
The rope would still be there when I got back. it was midnight, and I had six hours, at the minimum, before Alex would wake. Probably eight hours. As many as ten, depending on how much he wore himself out, but that seemed unlikely.
The only thing left to do was to go to where the Tank lived. As far as I knew, there was an armory, a navy base, a coast guard sector, and a fort. Only two of those were likely to actually have a tank- the fort and the armory. Both would have shells for a tank. One would start with gas.... the other would have gas for it to refill. The armory made the most sense. Luckily, it was closer, too. Not by much, but it was something. If a tank were to wander, well, it would make more sense for it wander from the closest, not the furthest, point.
Still, it was far enough away that If I wanted to be back before Alex woke up, I would need to drive. On the way back from the destroyed grocer, I’d picked out a vehicle that would serve, but was far enough away that Alex wouldn’t hear it start. A nice little black corvette. I grinned at the thing. I’d never driven a sports car before.
It was a little unfortunate that the driver seat was covered in black soot, but that was what told me the keys would be in the vehicle. Whoever it had been must have been right about to start it, because the keys were on the floor mat. I sighed in relief. A full tank of gas. Carkeys. A quiet black vehicle whose lights I would be able to turn off. A perfect fit.
I dusted the seat off carefully, trying not to think about it too much. I sighed when I couldn’t see over the dashboard. God, this was getting old. A quick glance around, and I spotted a van. I checked the doors; locked. “Damn it!” I let out an frustrated sigh. I stood on my tiptoes and glared in; a child seat. I needed that. I pointed my finger at the door and whispered “Aloha- whatever. Open!” Nothing happened.
“Unlock! Release! Break! Come on!” I pulled on the door, both of my feet pressed against the step-bar, my muscles straining. “Agh! Fine! How do I unlock you?! Without a key!”
There was, of course, no response. There was a way to do this. if only the window were open... or broken. Broken would work. But how could I break it? “If it were a hot day, I’d just lob a water balloon at you....or I could just heat you up myself!” I had been about to do a fireball the other day, hadn’t I? That had to mean i could just do a simple heating spell! I put my hands against the window, and momentarily worried about whether heating the glass to a point hot enough that something cold would shatter it would hurt my hands. Oh well. No time like the present to test.
Magic is energy. Controllable, malleable energy. And heat is energy.. and a lack of heat is simply taking energy, right? So, the simple answer to create heat would be to steal it from the air around me... or from the window itself. Draw it in, the release it back into the same window. I winced as I heard the glass shatter. That was.... easy. “Hunh. Oh well.” I unlocked the door and grabbed the child seat.
Driving this car was going to be a dream.
Or so I thought. It turns out having a fast car on a road that’s been crushed by a tank, covered in cars that have been abandoned, and already filled with potholes, was rather sucky. What was the point of a fast car if you couldn’t even drive fast...? I sighed as I weaved in and out of the stopped ‘traffic’.
At least it was quiet. That was probably what saved me when I came across the tank, just sitting in the middle of an intersection, a gas station on one corner, a coffee shop on another, a pawn shop on the third, and a church on the fourth. I nearly slammed on the breaks until I remembered they might squeak, and carefully came to a stop. My heart pounding, I turned the car off quickly, and pulled the emergency brake up. “Holy shit...” I whispered. They were right there. Four men, sitting around a fire, mugs in their hands. I slipped out of the vehicle and snuck closer.
They were... human. Pure human. They didn’t have tails, or ears, or glowing eyes, or cracked skin, or anything weird at all. Normal height. Strong looking, except for one. The elderly one. I shuddered as I remembered him. He had been the one with the binoculars. That had called in the young man who had been sunbathing on the front of the tank. Who had shot at us. I was hiding behind the gas station, but it didn’t feel like there were enough buildings between us.
He was wearing an older uniform. A vietnam uniform. He must have retired, but came back when the entire world went south. That’s why it had looked like army surplus. It was obvious, the way they sat, that they respected him as their leader. He had several medals pinned to his chest. That seemed... odd. Weren’t those usually reserved for the nicer uniforms?
To his immediate right was the youngest man. He couldn’t have been but sixteen. Now that I was looking at him more closely, he wasn’t as strong looking as the others; in fact, he looked like a computer geek. He shared the same nose as the elderly man... a grandson? His uniform looked.... ill fitting. He was cleaning a pistol, or maybe just trying to put it back together. He yelped as his grandfather whacked him across the head and pointed at something in his lap. Missed a piece.
To the grandsons right was the next oldest man in the group, a man in his late twenties. He’d taken his jacket off, and was staring into the fire, silent. He kept his arms crossed in front of him as he leaned forward. At this distance, i couldn’t even tell if he was moving his lips to speak. He was also the largest of the group. Buff, I decided to call him.
To Buff’s right was the last man. A young twenty something. Older than the grandson. He was talking, loudly, about something, then laughed. I couldn’t pick out the words, but I somehow managed to decide that his laugh was a cruel one. I wasn’t sure why. He’d been the one on the front of the tank.
Each of them had an assault rifle next to them, carefully placed to be within reach. With their fire right next to the tank, it would be difficult to sneak up. I pulled myself behind the gas station again, and let out a shaky breath. What were my options? Besides running away.
They were human, first off. And they’d been staring into a fire as they talked to each other. That meant they had to be night-blind. I’d be near invisible to them, considering there were no lights in the city any more. Second, the tank provided a clear obstruction to their view. If I simply got around them and onto the other side of the tank, I’d be able to do what I needed to and go. That was... doable.
I peeked back around, and glanced at the tank. What was I even going to do to that thing? How do you disable a tank? I glanced at the men. They were terrifying, but I wasn’t depraved. I didn’t want to hurt them. if I blew up their ammo cache, they’d probably die in the resulting explosion.. and so would I. They’d used explosive rounds on our little car. I shuddered.
Their engine was an option. Would it be ruined by sugar, like a normal engine? Maybe... or maybe a tank engine was strong enough to keep going. I didn’t know enough about tanks to chance that. Maybe I’d know how to break it if I got inside? I glanced back at the men. They were distracted by Grandson, and laughing. I slipped out from behind the gas station and moved across the street to the Church. I let out a soft whimper, my heart feeling like it was about to explode. They hadn’t moved, and I let out a soft sigh of relief.
If they saw me, it was over. I had no doubt, now, as to why they had shot at me and Alex; they were human, and we were not, so we were the enemy. We were somehow at fault for this in their minds. I slid along the wall until I was at the backside of the church and moved towards the next street before checking my view. I let out a second sigh of relief. I couldn’t see them. Now I could sneak up on the tank as quietly as I wanted. No need to rush here.
Every step made my heart pound harder. What if they needed to use the bathroom, and chose the pawnstore because it was out of view? What if they heard my shoes crunch on the asphalt? I took as light of steps as I could, as slowly as I could, inching forward.
I was almost to the tank when I could hear them speaking distinctly. “Goddamn, Patrick.” It was the elderly man speaking, frustration in his voice. “Didn’t your father teach you anything? It’s not hard to put a gun back together. No! That piece goes THERE. Not there. NOT THERE.” He sounded like he smoked a pack a day, and was bitter about it.
“I’m trying, okay? I was never an army guy!” The young mans voice sounded wounded.
“Well, you are now, so get with the program. Hmmph.”
“Look, Patrick, just focus on which pieces go where, okay? Try imagining it like one of those computers you used to build. The video card only goes in one spot, right?” It was a deep voice. It had to be Buff’s.
“Don’t patronize me, Gerald. I’ll figure it out. I just need some time...”
I put my back against the tank wheels, and closed my eyes, my breath coming in shuddering waves. Don’t breath loudly, I told myself. Don’t make a noise. Don’t slip. I glanced up, and put my hand on the track carefully and pulled myself up until I could get my foot onto the wheel. Careful... careful.
“You know, ‘rick, you really ought to just give up. At least you can load the tank gun, am I right?”
“Shut the fuck up, Fred.” It was the elderly man. “You don’t get to speak until you figure out that sunbathing on the goddamn tank is fucking stupid. You’re in enemy territory, son.”
“Dude, this is San Francisco. What do you have to worry about? It’s nothing but hipsters as far as the eye can see anyways! What’re they gonna do? Hit me with a vinyl? hah!”
“Boy, I’ve lived in San Francisco longer than you’ve been alive. There are plenty of guns about. You want one of them whatsit freak gang bangers shootin’ you cause you were an idiot? Wisen up.”
I bit my tongue, trying to keep my breaths shallow. I was nearly to the top. I peeked over the edge. There was the hatch. If I was careful, I could maybe slip in. The hatch was on their side, but I had space to be out of their view. If I moved slowly, I could do it.
“Whatever, grandpa. This isn’t the military anymore, and you aren’t my commander. I’m only with you guys cause you got a tank and you’re just fine with shooting the freaks.”
“I’m not okay with shooting them....” It was Patrick. “They’re just people. It’s not their fault-”
“Shut the fuck up, Patrick. They’re freaks. Why do you think they changed? They’re sinners. And hell, maybe we’re sinners too, but obviously they did something to deserve worse than us.” It was the elderly man. “God gave us a mission. This isn’t about shooting freaks, it’s about Gods will!”
“Isn’t God supposed to be a being of pure love...?” It was Buff. He’d been mostly quiet. I could see the top of his head from the top of the tank, with my face flat against the metal. Move slow... “The way I see things, Fred’s a sociopathic moron.”
“Hey, I take offense to that.”
“And you’re a delusioned old man. Patrick seems sane. The world ended. You get that, right? It’s over. And instead of trying to, i don’t know, help people like a good person, you have us shooting at them.”
“Careful, son. You’re treadin’ on dangerous territory.”
“I’m only here because I have nowhere else to go.” My foot was in the hatch! I slipped another inch closer. Soon, my knee would be able to bend and I’d be able to go a little faster. “We shot at over twenty people today. We destroyed a grocery store and a few buildings just chasing a single guy.”
“He was bigger than a car, and lootin’ the grocery store.”
“People need food to survive, Mr. Waterson.”
“That’s Major Waterson to you.”
Finally. I was in. My foot had managed to find the drivers seat, and I’d slipped in. No one had spotted it. I glanced around, and was immediately struck by how complicated it was. How did anyone get around in this thing? A second glance told me this wasn’t the driver’s seat at all. That was down in front, surrounded by knobs, dials, buttons, and levers. I slipped down further, and looked around. I was tiny, but this felt cramped. How did they even manage to fit in here?
A closer look at the controls, or at least what I assumed were controls, had labels, with little papers reading “Don’t touch”, and more official labels reading all number of technical sounding terms. I looked to the back of the tank. A hatch with an official label reading “Engine” was there. Well.... better start there, then. I pulled on the latch carefully, and winced as it squeaked softly, then nearly sighed as it swung open quietly. Hunh. The engine was simpler looking than I had thought. I’d expected.. I don’t know what I had expected.
I slipped my hand into the engine carefully, and felt around. It was warm, but it was obvious it’d been off for a while. I closed my eyes and built a picture in my mind of what i was feeling. If I could understand it, maybe I could break it better.
“Fuck, I need a smoke.” I nearly jumped out of my skin; the sound was coming from the hatch. I looked up slowly, and spotted Fred, slipping into the tank. His eyes were squinted as he looked around. My eyes flicked to the pack of smokes next to one of the seats. I didn’t breathe as he looked around carefully, his eyes nearly falling on me as I refused to move. My lungs screamed as he looked right at me, then slid over me and back around. Ten heart pounding seconds later, and he fumbled next to the chair, and grabbed the pack. “Got it.” His hands slapped against the tank’s hatch and pulled himself out of the tank with ease.
The instant his foot was out of view I took in a sharp breath, my sight returning to normal. I’d nearly blacked out from not breathing. My heart felt like it was about to explode, and my chest burned. I pulled my hand out of the engine carefully, and looked at it. I’d shoved it in so he wouldn’t see the white of my hand in the dark, but I hadn’t noticed I’d scraped it pretty bad. Blood dripped from it onto the floor. I hadn’t even noticed getting hurt. I looked back at the engine. No more messing around with feelings and slow. I wasn’t going to get that lucky again.
I needed a solution to this, and I needed it now. Heat wasn’t going to do the trick. I didn’t think I could shrink the engine. Why, though? I’d figure that out, later. Cold wouldn’t do the trick either, at least, not quickly. I’d need to use hot and cold at extreme amounts for hours, and there would likely be some noise associated with that.... I needed something quiet. Acid could work.
“All I’m saying, is that maybe we shouldn’t be indiscriminately murdering people!” It was Buff. He was yelling, angry. I’d thought their conversation had ended for some reason. I suppose not. “Whatever. I’m done! You guys can go have your little murder spree without me. Have fun driving the tank!”
“Boy, if you leave, the next time I see you, you’ll be an enemy of the state!”
“There IS no state! There hasn’t been for a while now. The only one giving any orders is you!”
“I’m warning you, boy...”
“Shoot me. Or don’t. I don’t care. Either way, I’m out.”
My hands shook as I focused on the spell. Making acid out of nothing... how the fuck did that even work? Where was the science? I shook my head. No such thing as science with magic. Scientists had already tried to make sense of it. I guess I was just fooling myself, earlier...
I gasped as I heard a shot ring out, incapable of helping myself. Was I dead? No. I wasn’t hit. “That was a warning shot, Gerald. So help me god, you turn around, or the next one is going into you.” I stared at the acid hovering over the engine. It didn’t even look real. Like... like the sort of acid a child would draw. or an angsty teenager, really. Whatever. It was enough. I let it sit on the engine, and I could immediately hear the hissing of it working. I looked up at the ceiling and muttered a thanks to the sky that I couldn’t see at that exact moment. I pushed the door shut carefully, and turned the latch. I winced as it squeaked again. A little louder than the first time.
“Go on! Shoot me! Do it! You’re a racist old man, afraid of a world in which YOU DON’T BELONG. Hell, even I don’t belong. We’re the odd ones out! Everyone else changed for the new world.”
“They’re the one’s who don’t belong! Don’t you see?”
“No! I don’t! I don’t know what world you think you’re living in, but it’s not this one. Good bye. Patrick, I won’t tell you what to do, but your uncle is insane. Don’t become a monster for him.”
I peeked out of the hatch. They were all facing the other way, except Buff. Gerald. He had his gun, and was backing away, his arms up as if to say ‘shoot me’. Patrick was looking at the ground. I pulled myself out of the hatch, and watched as Geralds Eye’s widen as he spotted me. I put my finger to my lips, and slipped down the back side as quickly and quietly as I could. “Whatever. You guys are all crazy. I’m leaving.”
“If I ever see you again, Gerald, It’ll be too soon...” Waterson let out a sigh and a grunt. “Let him go. He’ll come crawling back.... he’ll come crawling back.”
I sprinted away, my heart fluttering with triumph. Escape. Freedom. A tank disabled. What could possibly go wrong?

When I pulled over and got out, a police officer who was a block away immediately asked if I was drinking. I was and admitted it. I was administered a field sobriety test and later a breathalyzer. I blew a 1.1 and was booked for OWI.     I called my insurance company about the crash to get the claim started, but did not mention the arrest since they did not ask...but I know this will come up. I have full coverage...so will the insurance cover damages to my car and the other car? <br/><br/>Could I trust insurance agents to not steal money from me if I give them my debit card number?<br/> So my mom told me I need to be my own responsible adult and I need to pay for the bills/insurance from now on, so without much knowledge about health insurance, I talked to a Health Net agent over the phone about paying my monthly health insurance. She told me that I owed  about $1000, and I did make that payment with my debit card. Some days later, my mom told me that I was only suppose to pay about $9 monthly.... Now I m stressing out that I wasted a lot of my parents money when I should have paid a much smaller amount. Could have the agent tricked me into stealing my money? Does the amount you pay to insurance based on your income so perhaps she was misinformed of us having high income? I called back to a health net agent and he said I have to wait 5 business days to show my payment on their record. So now I have to wait, and I m stressing out that my money could have been stolen. <br/><br/>Court summons for no insurance or SORN?<br/> but, the SORN declaration had been sent to DVLA 2 days before the  offence  was committed.  The vehicle was on my front lawn, not used on a public road at all.  Sent off tax disc and declared SORN on 7 May, fine is for having uninsured and taxed vehicle on 9 May... seems a little unfair?!   can anyone advise what will happen when we go to magistrates court? <br/><br/>Can a teenager pay for her car insurance?<br/> If I get a decent paying job and a used car.    I want to drive so I can be independent and I am sick of walking, using the bus, and my parents wont let me bike since they think i will die. I ve been looking for a job for probably a year already and I m doing this so I can pay my own insurance and what not but my parents keeps telling me I wont even be able to pay a quarter of it. Right now my parents are making me hold off on my license and making me drive around with my permit so I can take them places and my mom keeps saying it s fine because I get to drive around our nice luxury cars but I can care less I want to be independent and have my own crappy car to myself.    I know insurance is very expensive for teens (I m a junior in high school) and new drivers so I m guessing it will cost over 100 a month but I think that is what my job would be able to pay off! <br/><br/>What is full coverage auto insurance for colorado?<br/>I am financing a car and I have to have full coverage but I just want the minimum full coverage I can get that colorado requires. Guys, how much do you think the insurance would cost us? <br/><br/>How do I go about finding a life insurance policy that was left to me?<br/> Ok, maybe I should get into more detail.    Some years back, I worked for a man who told me he had me as a beneficiary for one of his policies. He told me to make a copy of it, but never did. He died about a month after that happened. I never knew what insurance company it was from or anything, only the amount he said it was for. Well I never looked into back then because he was the owner of his company and his family got involved and it was a really uncomfortable situation. Anyway, I have looked on the states website and my name did not turn up. Now, there may not be any money, but I am just thinking now 6 years later, that if there is, how do I go about finding out, without having any info. Would my best bet be to hire a lawyer to help on the search? <br/><br/>Car insurance under parents name?<br/> So my parents are thinking about buying me a car. The only thing that is holding them back is the high insurance rate (I m 21). Currently I am using my parents car for college and my current insurance is under my parents name. If my parents buy the car under their name, while having me on their insurance list, wouldn t the insurance rate be the same as my current one? Or at the least not as expensive as having my own insurance? Thanks. <br/><br/> Has anyone bought insurance from Insphere Insurance Solutions (MEGA Life, Alliance for Affordable Services? <br/> I met with an agent yesterday and Googled the companies he represented, and saw so many complaints from both agents and consumers that my mind is spinning.  I own a small business with only two employees.  I don t want to be ripped off by some sweet talking insurance salesman, but if he is honest (chuckle) and his products are as good as he represents, then I would consider this option.  If you ve had any experience with these companies, I would like to hear it... good or bad.  Thanks. <br/><br/>Husband got DUI...Insurance question.?<br/> My husband stupidly got a DUI in March but our insurance still hasn t changed. I m worried that when we renew our policy it will go up. I co-signed for his truck so I m technically the owner also. Do you think this is possible?<br/><br/>Cheap car insurance...who are you with?<br/>i am looking for cheap car insurance for my two cars. i had my license since i was 18 and now im 20. i have no tickets and i need to find insurance please help me....who do u have and how much do u pay?<br/><br/>I am 26 and my wife is 24. Do I need to have my own insurance, or will her insurance cover me if I m driving her car? <br/><br/>CAR ACCIDENT INSURANCE QUESTION- Canada- Who s Responsible?<br/> Last night I was at a convenience store parked (private property) and a young idiot backed into my car! Im not going to go on about how he jumped out and almost attacked me even!! But long story short we traded insurance info and today I got 3 quotes.     So I called him to say I have the cheapest quote for the damage ($1000-$2100 they range from). I said he can pay $1000.00 then cause he told me last night he would.    Well today he is claiming HE NEVER HIT ME!!  The car full of teenagers he was with, and his mother who showed up to help him last night are denying it too cause he doesn t want to pay.     (The owner of the store did not witness it happen but ran out when he heard me hoking and saw the boys car smashed into mine after the fact. And saw him yelling and freaking. Which might help?)    So I haven t heard back from my Insurance yet but I just want to ask SOMEBODY PLEASE WHO MIGHT KNOW. Wont the insurance pay for it? His insurance or mine?  What is the laws of private property? <br/><br/>Should I show the car repairman the insurance estimate?<br/> I was in a wreck that the insurance company of the other driver agreed to pay for.  They made an estimate and said they will put a check in the mail.  They said that if it costs more than the estimate, then they will take care of that also as long as I show the estimate to the repairman.    That seems straightforward... and on the other hand:    With other car issues, auto shops have seemed to be willing to underbid each other.  I wouldn t mind getting it fixed for less than the check that I m going to receive.    Should I try to get estimates that are independent of the insurance company s estimate to see if I can save money?  If I then go with a shop that says they can do it for cheaper, can I trust that they won t say it will be more later? <br/><br/>False Car insurance claim against me! Help!?<br/> Hi everyone, so today I was in extremely slow moving traffic on a harsh bend and the road in front turned out to be blocked (market uses the town car park on Thursdays and I totally forgot) so I began a 3 point turn. As I was reversing at <5mph I hear a car horn blare, naturally I slam my brakes on immediately. Quick wave of apology for getting too close and I go to pull away. Then this man jumps out his car and screams that I ve scratched his rental 4X4 and shows me this massive 9 inch scratch above his wheel arch. I move my car to a sensible position whereas he just left his in the middle of a busy road (you see what I m saying about this driver right?) Seeing his scratch I panick and look at my car... Not a single mark anywhere on the rear or sides of my vehicle. A witness supporting his story got out of a car and passed him her details. However, I have a passenger witness AND a pedestrian witness (who the claimant told to  stay out of this ) who saw it all  unfold.  I know I didn t cause those scratches but what the hell do I do? He was very abusive and insistent that I was the Antichrist of drivers when absolutely nothing happened between our vehicles. Do I wait it out and see if anyone contacts me? Will it be the rental company or his insurer? Can I just flat out refute the claims because my car is perfectly fine and no paint was traded? HELP ME. I d be thankful for any Input. The question about homeowners is compared to where I live. We have to have homeowners insurance. That isn t too bad. However, we also have to have flood insurance through the national program. Again, not outrageous. However, where we get hosed is on wind insurance. It can run as high as $1000+ per month to pay for it. She was having trouble breathing and she was put on a respirator. The nurses and doctor kept saying her lungs were not healing themselves because of smoking for so many years. Thank god she pulled through and they gave her the normal things to take home like medicine and oxygen to use. She unfortunately still has not stopped smoking and my brother and me were really scared. My brother just turned 18 and we have no other family at all, my mom is not married and I wouldnt have been able to afford a funeral if it came to it. My mom is very stubborn and she will not get Life Insurance to help for funeral costs if something were to happen again. Is there a way to for me to get Life Insurance on my mother without her knowing or signing anything  ?   <br/><br/>Can I sue my Auto Insurance Company?<br/> In 2005, as part of our divorce agreement, my ex and I decided to keep the same auto insurance but under separate policies. We had been with this company for years. My policy was on auto pay meaning that the payments were taken directly from my account. He walked in to pay his.     About 6 months after the divorce, I was pulled over for a routine traffic stop and was told I was driving an uninsured vehicle. Without insurance, my registration was also invalid. Both tickets totaled 1K. My car was taken into impound. I checked and found the officer was correct. On good terms with my ex, I told him what happened. He said for the past 6 months, each time he went in to make a payment, the girl HIS was already paid.     Realizing what had happened. They were applying my payments to his automobile. I was furious. I notified the agent who initially did not want to accept blame, but since the payments were automatic and my account number was on each payment they took, they were responsible. The error was compounded by the fact that the cancellation notice went to HIS address (how dumb was that!) So I had no way of knowing that I was cancelled. I was without a car for 2 weeks and lost my job. After much haggling and many sleepless nights of wondering what to do without a job or a car, the insurance company finally admitted blame, paid the impound fees of $1,250.00. The agent also said they would handle the 2 tickets totaling 1K.     FAST FORWARD TO 2010   in my state, the county did a scofflaw sweep and I was summoned to court with over 5 thousand other delinquent drivers to address unpaid tickets. The order was come to court by April 30th or be arrested. Realizing this had to be a mistake, but fearful of the law, I stood in line for over 5 hours in blazing heat, then sat in court another 5 hours waiting for my day in court.     I was immediately threatened with arrest because the 2 tickets were not paid. Up to that moment, I had no idea the insurance company had not paid the 2 tickets. This time, not only was my insurance and registration cancelled, my license was suspended due to the age of the infraction (5 years). In front of the judge, I called the agents  office only to be told by the secretary that they had no intention to pay the ticket. Paying to get the car out of impound was enough. When the judge heard this she was shocked and let me off with a promise to pay in 5 days. She made me promise not to drive. With no way to get home but drive, I took a chance, and was pulled over. The officer informed me that due to the vast number of outstanding cases, tags bearing our county name would be targeted for a while (talk about a police state!). I showed him my documents from the court and headed home.     This is a nightmare. Would I have a case if I filed suit against my insurance company for failing in their fiduciary responsibility to a 16 year client in good standing? My question is basically if the change in price will be drastically higher than if I got full coverage on my current car.    I was thinking I could expect somewhere in the range of $1500 - $2000 per year. Is that about right, or am I way off? <br/><br/>Which is the best renters insurance company in the cincy area?<br/>Which is the best renters insurance company in the cincy area?<br/><br/>Cheapest car insurance please?<br/> hey i hope some1 can help me out.   i am 22 years. i recently passed my driving test, on the 21/07/2009.    i also bought a car honda civic. 1.4l   i am looking for the cheapest car insurance possible. because i am full time student. and work part time. i wouldnt be able to afford paying 2000 annually.    please if some1 knows where to get cheap car insurance for new drivers, would be very appreciated   cheers <br/><br/>How much is car insurance on a Nissan 350z?<br/>How much is car insurance on a Nissan 350z?<br/><br/>Lying to insurance company?<br/> Hello all, My friend is thinking about lying to an insurance company for his motorcycle, I m going to show him this link. Basically, What will he get for:   Lying about age on insurance policy  Riding a motorcycle that his license does not enable him to ride (He has a A2 license)   He says he will restrict the bike to 33bhp. But no insurance companies will quote him apperantly. What will he get for riding a illegal   bike and lying about his age?   <br/><br/>Think of buying a catagory D car which is an insurance write off?<br/> I have just been to view a 2005 Nissan Micra with 13100 on the clock the car had a crush which damage the tail gate and the bumper both have been replaced to a high standard. The car would be worth 5000 but is selling for 2200. Everything seems good at 1st glance but i am concerned about insurance and weather or not it s a good ideal to take the gamble. The seller showd me the before and after pictures of the car and it seemed to fit wot he was saying. He also has a valied MOT which is a month old I don t plan on selling the car if i buy it.    How much damage can a knock do to the front of the vehicle or any of the important parts?    Please can someone advise wot the best thing would be to do?<br/><br/>Harrodsburg Kentucky Cheap car insurance quotes zip 40330<br/>Harrodsburg Kentucky Cheap car insurance quotes zip 40330<br/><br/>Im 16 and getting a 2010 Camaro LS how much will insurance cost?<br/>I live in fort worth, tx zip code is 76106 <br/><br/>The best and cheapest car insurance?<br/>The best and cheapest car insurance?<br/><br/>Need affordable car insurance for 16 yr. old can you help!?<br/>do you have a teen that drives or just know what the best prices are!<br/><br/>For how long should I get my term life insurance?<br/> My husband and I are 30 and looking at term life insurance.     He s healthy as a horse with no illness in his family history and is the only source of income.    I on the other hand have Crohn s disease. My dad died at 49 of pancreatic cancer. My mom had breast cancer at 38 and now at 55 has secondary bone cancer and diabetes   .   So I m going to cost a fortune to insure.     Since he s the only financial provider so his will be much higher than mine. We don t HAVE to drive     2. If we do drive, most states require insurance, but also may take a bond or proof that you have money to compensate     3. Auto insurance is mandated by the state, not the federal government <br/><br/>Permit and Insurance please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?<br/>i am getting my permit like in two months if im going to be in my parents policy how much will the insurance go up if im going to be a driver only!!!!!!!IM GOING TO DRIVE MY DADS CAR<br/><br/>Insurance on a Blackjack?<br/> One drunk night I managed to crack the screen on my (orginial) Blackjack. When I call my insurance agency, they say that my ultrasound is completely covered, but doctor s office should use another code to fill in the claim.    I asked the office to change the code many times, but I still do not get coverage.     Is there anything I can do? I feel like I am going in circles. Who can really resolve this problem, doctor s office or insurance agency? <br/><br/> How do I file an auto insurance claim and what exactly will happen to my insurance rate, deductible, etc.? <br/>How do I file an auto insurance claim and what exactly will happen to my insurance rate, deductible, etc.? <br/><br/>How do I find out my policy and group numbers for Tricare?<br/>Yeah, we aren t stationed at a base yet (he is in tech) so I am going to a civilian doctor who accepts Tricare :o) <br/><br/>My insurance expired will my car be covered?<br/>My insurance expired will my car be covered?<br/><br/>What is The best Auto Insurance to get?<br/>What is The best Auto Insurance to get?<br/><br/>Question about starting a business and health insurance in CA?<br/> If I was to decide to start a small business on the side (doing gardening, or growing food for sale, or something like that) and I am my only employee - I would be THE only person working this job - am I required by law to buy health insurance (especially if I already have health insurance through my husband s job)?  I find this new thing kind of confusing...
