It wasn’t easy. It never is. Sometimes things get all tangled up. Feelings change. Feelings intensify. Feelings…feel. Arguments are inevitable when those feelings are on the line. It wasn’t an all-out war, but it stung them both. Maybe loving someone isn’t all that easy.

Copia found him afterwards. He was sleeping on the sofa in the drawing room. Shivering. Stubborn man can’t even take care of himself, let alone anyone else. The Cardinal pulled the throw off the back of the sofa and wrapped it tightly around his lover’s sleeping form.

Tomorrow’s a new day, right? Copia sighs and sits down in front of the sleeper. It’s going to be a long night. CC takes in his lover’s features, relaxed now, but so animated and intense earlier in the evening. What was the argument even about? Doesn’t matter now anyway, he guesses. Hearts have been wounded.

Copia looks over his shoulder as the sleeping human lets out a small snore and he huffs at that. Now’s not the time to be cute, he thinks. The Cardinal’s hand finds its way into the sleeping hand of his lover and for a minute everything feels normal. Maybe they can pick up the pieces and get back to where they were. Or maybe they’ll have to form some sort of new relationship with each other. Whatever it takes, The Cardinal thinks to himself. He knows what he wants. He knows how much they love each other. There’s no letting this go. He decides that tomorrow is the beginning of something even more beautiful than what they had before.

Until then, he’ll stay where he belongs. By his lover’s side. The floor is hard but he doesn’t care. This is where he’s meant to be right now. Copia lift’s the hand he’s holding and places a kiss on the back of it. “Sempre.”
