On this day:
PHOSPHORESCENT SPIDER WEBS AND STRANDS FROM THE SKY
On November 21, 1898, in Alabama, large amounts of a luminous, cobwebby material fell to earth. The gossamer threads were as strong as asbestos and sometimes formed in pieces several inches square. In 1971, in California, "spaceships" oscillating in the sky above the Monterey Bay were reported emitting an exhaust of floating fibers, which fell from behind them. In 1973, in Massachusetts, a woman witnessed a glowing, globe-shaped object in the sky simultaneous to shimmering strands sticking to the leaves and wires outdoors.
In 1970, in New Jersey, strands of a mysterious material were seen hanging down from the skyânot straight down, but "stretched taut at angles of between thirty and fifty degrees to ground level." The ends were never located. One strand fell, tangled, into someone's yard. Four boys discovered a line that had drooped low enough to grab. Reeling for over an hour revealed no end, and then the strand broke off from the sky and curled up into a spool on the ground. A university professor examined specimen and discovered a hollow tube running down the center of the strand. The tube was empty in the first analysis, but filled with a solid substance in the next.
In 1972 a single fiber strand was seen dangling from the sky in Georgia. The "kite string" sighting was investigated by a newspaper reporter, who discovered a man who had climbed onto his roof to reach the lowest point of the loop. The man was yanking in yards and yards of the incredibly strong fiber. There were two kinds of material in the strand; one was "fluffy, shiny, white" threads, and the other threads were a "tiny, hard-finished green material."
In 1978, in Ohio, a man discovered a single strand snagged on a bramble in his backyard. After he called in his neighbors, they began to gather the line and filled up eight fishing reels with 1,000 feet of the stuff before the thread broke and floated away.

"FREAKISH FIND - Milford Bradt, R.R. 1. Hannon, is shown in the above picture exhibiting two almost perfectly rounded spheres of granite-like texture which he removed from the first stomach of a cow. Much doubt exists as to whether the objects were swallowed whole or whether they were formed in the stomach." - from the Hamilton Spectator. October 7, 1943. Page 7. ///
"Set of Heavy Lawn Bowls Found in Stomach of Cow," Hamilton Spectator. October 7, 1943. Page 7. ---- Veterinary surgeons of this district have been trying to solve the riddle caused when Milford Bradt, R.R. 1, Hannon, discovered two seven-pound objects resembling granite lawn bowls in the first stomach of a cow. Mr. Bradt butchers carcasses unfit for human consumption but which are suitable food for mink and other fur-bearing animals. Almost perfect spheres, the objects are five inches in diameter.
Mr. Bradt explained that the cow from which the curios were removed belonged to Frank Lee, whose in the stomach and that the lines farm is just east of Stoney Creek. The animal had been ill several days before death occurred. Amazed at the size and heaviness of the stones, he shared the opinion with others that they had been bowls, to which the cow had been attracted by a salty coating. To those who thought it incredible that anything so large could pass through the cow's gullet, Mr. Bradt expressed the opinion that, with a smooth surface and the cow's saliva, they might easily have slipped from the mouth to the stomach.
Many who saw the spheres were the opinion that they might be formations of calcium. Each ball shows, on the greater part of its surface, a network of black streaks. On each are two small areas which are unstreaked. Because of the markings, it was suggested that the two eventually became stationary were imprints from the inner lining of the stomach.
According to Mr. Bradt, one veterinary surgeon supported the sup position that they were actually lawn bowls and were not formations. Other members of the profession would not express opinions

Ao Bing's father and aunty. His father is Ao Guangćĺšż, Longwang of the East Sea, and his aunty is Ao Runćé°, Longwang of the West Sea. (lĂłngwangéžç means sovereign of lĂłngéž)
Scholars used to use the word loong but its pronunciation is significantly different from the Chinese character "éž". Long is better but still not the same. The aunthentic pronunciation is more like [lÉ:ueng] and it's pinyin is lĂłng.
Translators use the word dragon merely to facilitate better understanding, but the Chinese "éž" and the Western "dragon" are vastly different, fundamentally distinct, much like two creatures that aren't in the same dimension.

The Chinese éžlĂłng is a sacred mythical creature; they are considered holy beings, existing in a dimension above that of mortals. They hold the responsibility of controlling the wind, lightning, thunder, clouds and rain, regulating the weather, and blessing the abundance of crops. The copulation of éžlĂłng with nine other creatures gave birth to various divine beasts, each bearing some characteristics of the éžlĂłng, but the true éžlĂłng is regarded as the purest and most noble of all.
In China, many people claim to have seen lĂłng, with plenty of folk records both before and after the founding of the People's Republic. In the internet era, there are also many videos of lĂłng. One of the most famous is footage taken by a college student on her dormitory balcony on a cloudy day, where a lĂłng appears in the thunderclouds and then turn its head to gaze the girl. Another notable incident is the CCTV live broadcast of the Gaoyou Lake lĂłng water spout event (interestingly, CCTV later edited the live footage, changing the scene of a real lĂłng spiraling and disappearing in a flash to show three ridiculous birds that didnât follow the rules of perspective). These videos can be found on Bilibili if you want to check them out. I think the dormitory and Gaoyou Lake videos are real like they're truely lĂłng (the dorm one is especially striking because it looks exactly like the watery ink long on ancient Chinese paintings, with an extraordinary and otherworldly vibe, exuding an overwhelming sense of oppression). Other real videos show that lĂłng can fly at incredibly high speeds, like lightning. Folk culture says lĂłng can switch between physical and ethereal forms at will, which is why they can move so fast. There are also many fake videos to get clicks online, so one gets to use their own judgment. Itâs widely believed that lĂłng appeared as early as the creation of the world, and they made a pact with the ancestors of Chinese people and have been protecting the 'Celestial Realm and Divine Land of Huaxia'ĺĺ¤çĽĺˇ ever since. In the unique Chinese twelve shengxiaoçč culture, lĂłng is the only mythical creatureâthe other eleven are common animals. Some scholars think that when shengxiao was created, many people had actually seen lĂłng and accepted that they're real, which is why it became one of the twelve shengxiao.

devotion not as worship. but as recognition. as "i want to stand with you, and beside you." as learning. as understanding. as "i want to know you." as "i am making the choice to get to know you." as persistence. as care. as "you are knowable." as "you are lovable." devotion not as idolatry. but devotion as mortality. as a reflection. "you and i, together. equals. partners." devotion as accompaniment. devotion as humanity.

Odds and ends:
CHINESE SEALS
In 1780, in Ireland, the first Chinese porcelain seal, of the kind used with sealing wax, was unearthed by a peat-cutter in the bog near Portlaoise. A second was found in a harbor cave in Cork, and yet another was unearthed in an orchard, beneath the roots of an ancient pear tree in County Down. In 1816 further seals were discovered near a Dublin road, in a plowed field in Tipperary, and in the River Boyne, where gravel was being raised. One seal was found in a curiosity shop in London, but the shopkeeper said it had originally come from Ireland. By 1868, sixty-one seals had been found.
All of the seals were one-inch cubes with the exception of a single oval one. Miniature animals sat on the top, and an exotic Chinese inscription covered the bottom. Controversy raged among antiquarians regarding the identity of some of the animals, the interpretation of the exotic script, and how the seals came to be scattered about Ireland.
In the 1840s Edmund Getty decided to investigate the seals and had copies made, which he sent to a friend who was working in Hong Kong. Two years later he got an answer. Two of the animals were identified as a Chinese monkey and a Chinese lion. The inscriptions were dated from the time of Confucius, 500 BC, though the age of the seals themselves was not known. Two groups of Chinese scholars were asked for translations. They agreed on some of the meanings, such as "A Pure Heart,' but could not agree on all of the interpretations. Many of the writings were poetic in nature: "Pure is the breeze on the stream," "Heaven and water are of the same color," and "The arrow returns to him who trusts himself."

I'm sure there's gotta be an established government outside of Sentinel in TFONE and I think it'd be funny to see them scramble after Optimus Prime appears as a god sanctioned leader.
"SIR! You cannot simply appoint your friends to positions of government! THERE IS A PROCESS!!!!"
"yeah well Primus says I can so suck it"
You know considering how Sentinel likely did the same goddamn thing they should've expected this
#transformers#maccadam#unnamed characters#tf1 sentinel prime#tf1 optimus prime#like undoubtedly there must've been some mecha close with the primes that could've objected to Sentinel's lies#he probably had them go mysteriously missing#but#the other mecha he put in charge probably weren't all that great either considering what we saw in the movie#transformers one#tfone spoilers

Ms. Cobel's giant storm triptych that takes up the entire wall and engulfs her + her bust of kier vs Mr. Milchick's tiny iceberg painting + rabbit/duck optical illusion statuette can mean a lot to a person. If they're me. Perhaps even the largest, most unsinkable ships should steer clear of storms and icebergs, no matter how small they seem.
#Milchick also has a kier thing in his office but I wanted to choose one object#severance#severance season 2#severance spoilers#<- maybe?#the iceberg is already symbolically...it's a dangerous but inert object - so so much larger than it appears on the surface#that PLUS how comically small the painting is on that wall....#the storm so large it takes up not only the entire wall but also THREE different panels...#woman who's simmering and angry and mysterious and destructive ('you're scared of me.') How Lumon has used her all her life#and she cannot be contained any longer vs a man who's trying his best to be whatever Lumon wants him to be - whose identity is not up to hi#but the viewer. Is this a duck or a rabbit? It's whatever Lumon says it is and if they don't like what they say it is then Milchick must#change it. What a small iceberg (lumon thinks) surely it won't damage my ship too much to crash right into it.#the storm will pass.
