Hi! I’m a big fan of your work!! I am looking for more but unfortunately I feel like I have read all yhe good Harry Potter docs on Ao3. Do you have any recs?

With that, Harry Potter fics are a big genre. Just saying Harry Potter in general really isn’t that specific to me so this is across genres/character focuses/you name it.

how did you guys start learning how to use the code for cog? I’ve been trying for like two years but keep giving up because i can’t understand how it works LOL im more of a writer and don’t know a single thing about code -a (just gonna mark my asks LOL)

Well, Faye learned it first, then taught me! It's not that hard, it just takes some getting used to; I recommend using smth like Notepad++ to write in and color code different bits of code. I'll give a guide here for anyone who wants to try it or in case smth here helps you get it! I'll leave yall like pictures of examples of things after I word it all out.

Some main things to remember:

You have two files that HAVE to have specific names. Startup, where all your created permanent variables go (+ some more things, I'll get into those later, plus any additional content you want), has to be named startup.txt always. The files that holds your stat "pages" also has a specific name; choicescript_stats.txt has to always be its name.

In your startup file, you have multiple things: variables you created that will be used multiple times over multiple files; your scene list, where you put all your scenes and list them in sequential order; your name as the author; your game title; yhe copyright wording; and, during your time using dashingdon, the code string to make saves work. You can also have more in it of course, but those are the main things.

You will be indenting a LOT. A single indent is either 4 spaces with ur spacebar or your tab key. You can ONLY choose one or the other, do NOT EVER mix spaces and tabs, it'll break things. Choose one n stick with it.

Coding in CS is pretty simple once you learn it. There isn't a whole lot of commands due to it being more simplified to be more beginner friendly, so lets get into those.

Creating a variable. In your startup file, all you have to do to make a variable you want to use is *create variablename, plus whether it's a numerical, has a string of text, or is true/false. examples: Numerical would be *create variable 0; string would be *create variable ""; and true/false *create variable false (or replace false w true if you want it to be true up till smth turns it false).

Using the variable. There's a LOT of ways to use a variable. Like, a shit ton. Let's start w smth like the name variable a lot of people use! So, let's say you've written a choice up to set player name (I'll show you how to format a choice in a bit). Under your choice options, you can then use *set name "name" and to use it in text, you simply do ${name}! If you let someone choose their name (which I'll also show you how to do), you can do *set name "$!{name}" to make sure it's always capitalized! (Only need to do this when players pick their own names, when you use *set name "name" you can capitalize it inside the "").

Using the variable #2. For doing *if statements (commands that let you dictate different things, like say a scene will only play if a certain variable is true or false, a choice is only avaliable if the player meets a certain criteria, etc), it's pretty simple. You just for true/false: *if (variable) for if it's true (you need the parenthesis for this one) and *if (not(variable)) for false. For a string, *if (variable = "whatever you've got it set to") or *if (variable != "whatever you've put") <this one is for if the variable doesnt equal that. For numerical: *if (variable = 0) (or whatever number u got), *if (variable <= 0) (for if the variable is equal to or less than the number), *if (variable >= 0) (if variable is more or equal to number), *if (variable > 0) (variable more than 0), and *if (variable < 0) (variable less than number). Outside of using the *if statement to open or close off a choice, you always indent under it once until the content only available for it is done.

Using the variable #3: Setting variables. Okay so, what you set your variables to and how you do will effect how you can set up stats eventually, which we'll get into. Your variables you created as numerical values can be set two ways: with just adding/minusing numbers (which you HAVE to be careful with and keep track of; cs does NOT work with negative numbers) or percentages (like in the stats you see as Cautious or Careful). Basically: *set variable +3 (for normal numbers), or *set variable %+3 (for percentages). Percentages are safest when you plan on having a stat be able to be negated a lot, but it also makes it harder to figure out how it's going to increase/decrease. I personally prefer the regular numbers for like counting how many options someone can use before they're kicked out of a choice branch, or when you use a counter for relationship points.

Making a choice. Alright, so, choices. The bread and butter of interactive fiction. There are two types of choices inside of CS: *choice choices and *fake_choice choices. You will mostly use *fake_choice choices as *choice ones are reserved ONLY for when you're jumping the player to a different scene/path/etc. *fake_choice choices can also do this, but they also can be used for literally anything: setting variables like appearance, name, etc; dialogue; stat changes (like in TWC when you chose which stat to build); etc etc. To set up a choice you go to a fresh line in your coding word processor, then for a fake choice: *fake_choice (on the first line). Hit enter, indent once, and now you can make your choices! all you do is #(choice stuff here) (with no ()). Then, under your choice if it has content, you indent twice before starting. You also have to indent twice each time you start a new paragraph in the content. Each time you make a new choice, you simply indent once and use # before the choice's stuff. Once you're done with the choices, go to a new line under the choices section and dont indent to continue.

Making a choice #2: *choice choices. Okay, so *choice choices are made the same, EXCEPT you only use them to send the player elsewhere. So, follow the same setup as a *fake_choice (except with *choice instead, ofc), but the "content" will be generally a *goto_scene scenename (you port the player to a completely new file, called a "scene) or a *goto labelname (keeps the player in the current file, but allows you to show different versions of a scene or of a section of your chapter to the player, plus you can make them all eventually meet up again). I generally say use a standard *goto versus a *goto_scene unless you want to change so much you NEED to use different files.

*goto labelname and labels. Basically, labels are your friends. They're really nice and make it to where you can make different scenes with choices without making you have huge indented craziness under a choice. Also, it lets you make a choice where the player can select MULTIPLE options. All you need to do is *goto labelname , then somewhere down the file put *label labelname and all the content you want under it. After you're done and you have a spot you want everything to meet up at, you can do another *goto labelname , go down the file, and do *label labelname again! Sounds WAY more complicated than it is, trust me.

Ending a scene. So, you've come to the end of your chapter. You're ready to move players to the next one, but how do you do that? *finish is all you need! At the end of your file, all you gotta do *finish (and you can put some words as a transition following it, like when you move to the next page)! That's it, the game will move to the next available scene! If there isn't one, your player will get that scene that asks if you want to play again.

Next Page. In case you aren't aware, all you need to "change" a page is *page_break (any words you want in transition without these ().)

Stat Page Shenanigans. Now, I hate stat pages. With a fuckin passion. It's the thing I leave last and pretend it doesn't exist until I absolutely have to make it. Making "pages" in your stats page isnt too bad; all you do is a *choice with choices that lead to labels where each thing falls. Remember, each label needs it's own *choice too so the player can navigate to other "pages". To make stat bars and stuff isn't too bad ig... I just hate doing it. all you gotta do is *stat_chart, then indent each stat bar/counter under it. it'll put them all next to each other, too. There's multiple stat types: opposed_pair variable (and you can indent under it and put the words you want an opposed pair to show); for a numerical counter, you need a numerical variable, then *stat_chart and indented under it is text variable Variableword(s); and for a percentage bar, you need a variable that you've been setting with %s, then under a *stat_chart you put percent variable variablenameorword.

This is a lot of just the basics; if y'all want me to go into like... more SPECIFIC things that you don't get or more complicated manuevers lemme know in the ask box, I'll be glad to help u! Now, photos:

These days are being really stressful at work so I’ve been writting this to relax a little.

One of my favourite things are books. I really like reading so I decide to write what I think that would be the Inazuma character’s habits on reading and their favorite books. Only Original Series because I don’t feel like I really know the Ares/Orion ones.

I’d love if more people share their headcanons about this topic even if they aren’t the same as me!! Spread the love for books and reading.

Afuro Terumi:  He likes to read in general, although what he enjoys most is not books as such but Legends and Myths from different parts of the world. Especially from Greek mythology, two works of this style fascinate him "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey". You can ask him any questions about a hero or god and he will know the answer without hesitation. 

Choi Chang Shoo: He loves to read and cultivate his mind. He reads a lot of Asian literature, he actually reads a lot of everything. His favorite book is "The Art of War".

Edgar Valtinas: He really likes to read, and tell people how much he reads making criticism that nobody asks for about his last literary acquisition. If it is boring and convoluted, he likes it more. Reading pompous things that he can proudly show off even if they are complex reading. "Pride and Prejudice" is his favorite work. He also likes "Les Miserables" and "The Count of Monte Cristo".

Domon Asuka:  He does not dislike reading, although they are light and often humorous things, for times when he wants to do something different, even outdoors. He likes light novels and comics. A light novel that he likes a lot is "The devil is a part-timer!".

Dylan Keith: "War of the Worlds", the best work ever conceived. Normally what he reads are usually comics, the more related to alien invasions or zombies, the better. In any case he is a slow reader and prefers to watch movies or series.

Endou Mamoru: He doesn't like to read, he prefers to use his time to training and playing football. The only thing he sees reading for his own pleasure are his grandfather's notebooks and football magazines.

Fidio Ardena: He likes to read, he tries to combine it with the rest of his obligations and hobbies, he seeks to read every day although sometimes he can't, but on the weekend he will always take out even an hour to read. He really likes Italian literature and his favorite work is "Scaramouche" and "The Name of the Rose".

Fubuki Shirou: He likes to read from time to time, although when he picks up a book he has the need to finish it, the stories that have a happy ending are his favorites, especially romantic and cloying stories. Sadly it seems that almost all romantic classics do not have a very happy ending. So he goes more to youth books in that sector and ends up reading things like "Twilight". Since Fuyuka likes the same books, it is often common that after reading a book they exchange their opinions animatedly.

Fudou Akio: He likes to read for a while before going to bed, although he doesn't spend much time he is a fast reader. His favorite books are of the black and horror novel genre, fond of the novels of Agatha Cristie and Edgar Allan Poe, "The Crimes of Morgue Street" is his favorite. He also reads the works of Lovecraft and likes "The Hound of the Baskervilles". He doesn’t despise comics with a serious plot, he is a fan of "Death Note" and "Monster". In the morning he wonders why he has disturbing dreams.

Genda Koujirou:  He doesn't mind reading, but he doesn't like it that much either. From time to time he picks up a book if it catches his attention, he lets himself be carried away by the titles and the color of the cover. Of course, after Sakuma reads a book, he will also do so to be able to comment with the other boy. The only books he reads because he likes them are western books, his favorites are "Warlock" and "Desert Centaurs".

Gouenji Shuuya:  He doesn't like to read at all. He blames his father forcing him to read a lot as a child thinking that would make him smarter. The only thing he reads are children's books that he reads to his sister before bedtime and of course, on a personal level he doesn't like them at all. Although the story of "The Lion King" causes his eyes to swell.

Handa Shinichi: As you would expect from a normal person, Handa likes to read normally. Neither too much nor too little He does not have a favorite novel, everything passes without grief or glory to him. Read much more outreach books or guide books or keys to achieve different goals, such as "Super powers of success for normal people".

Hijikata Raiden: He loves to read his sibblings, although he doesn't have time to read for himself, he doesn't care much. He loves children's literature and really enjoys telling and even setting up the stories. Sometimes even he invents stories in which of course, his sibblings are the protagonists. It is not uncommon for existing stories to change the names of the protagonists so that their siblings feel more identified. Every day it's up to one of them to shine. His favorite is "Peter Pan" because of the number of children that appear.

Ichinose Kazuya: He likes to read things with a lot of deep and from which something can be learned. He does not care if the novel does not give an excessively happy ending, the drama does not bother him. He likes works like "The Great Gatsby", "The Lord of the Flies" and "Kill a Mockingbird".

Kabeyama Keigorou: Reading is not something he especially like, but he likes manga, his favorites are sports shonen, but he does not dislike adventure. Then talk to Kurimatsu and Megane about these. He still doesn't find one that he especially likes, although sometimes he looks very enthusiastic about "One Piece".

Kageno Jin: He likes to read, he tries to read at least a little every week. His favorite books are optimistic books and happy stories with which yhe can evade and look for guidelines to bring them into your life. His favorite is "Over Lemons".

Kazemaru Ichirouta: He likes to read a lot, he is also a fast reader and can read things that for other people would be endless in a couple of days. He doesn't have a genre he likes in particular, he prefers to read a little of everything. His favorite books are "The Pillars of the Earth".

Kidou Yuuto: He spends a little time daily to read and keep up to date with the news through the newspaper. Read anything within he reachs to expand his knowledge, from historical novels to popular science books. His favorites are Julio Verne's books, especially "Around the World in 80 days" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and the series of "Captain Alatriste" by Arturo Pérez Reverte.

Kino Aki: Read the normal, neither too much nor too little. Many times she reads the books that the boys of the soccer club like because she thinks that way she understands them a little better. From time to time there is a book that she especially like, such as "Momo" or "The Endless Story".

Kiyama Tatsuya: Try to read every day even a little, although some time passes between book and book. He likes books with spiritual moral and personal growth books. His favorite books are "The Monk who sold his Ferrari" and "The Knight in Rusty Armor".

Kogure Yuuya: Who needs to read being able to play jokes? From time to time he reads some comedy manga, but it is at its best. He doesn't have something in particular that he likes, except "Gintama", but he prefers to watch the animated version. Sometimes he reads books of jokes or pranks.

Kudou Fuyuka: She likes to read, she tries to read frequently, although she doesn't always do it daily. She loves mixed romance and fantasy books, in which humans are mixed with angels, or similar. Her favorite books are "The Lux Saga". She usually talks a lot about these books with Fubuki.

Kurimatsu Teppei: Mangas and comics, although if he can play video games instead of reading, better for him. He likes "Naruto", "Boku no Hero Academy" and shonen manga of adventure.

Luca:  He doesn't particularly like reading, he gets bored quickly, occasionally he finds a book that catches his eye. Despite everything, he is passionate about "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit", from time to time he costumes himself as a character, his favorite is Legolas, and goes to conventions, sometimes he even manages to convince Hidetoshi to go with him.

Mac Roniejo:  He does not like or dislike reading, it is not something he seeks to do in his normal free time, but occasionally he feels like reading a good book. In those cases you can see him especially reading books by Paulo Coelho. His favorite book is "The Alchemist".

Mark Kruger:  He is an occasional reader, although when he decides to read a book he sure enjoys the reading. He likes stories related to World War II, such as "The Diary of Anne Frank", "The Book Thief" and "The Museum of Stolen Memories". 

Matsuno Kuusuke: He likes to read although he doesn't do so much because he usually dedicates his time to sports and his friends. He likes comedy and humor books, his favorite book is “No Word from Gurb”, he loves all Eduardo Mendoza's books.

Megane Kakeru: The most fan of the mangas of everyone, he reads almost everything that comes out in the market because he has a lot of free time dedicated to this hobby. "Captain Harlock" is his favorite manga, he also loves "Jojo".

Midorikawa Ryuuji: He likes to read, he is the one that love reading the most of everyone, and reads everything he gets, although the European classics are the ones that most attract his attention, works such as "The Divine Comedy", "Don Quijote", "Hamlet", " Romeo and Juliet ”,“ Lights of Bohemia ”,“ Madame Bovary ”, etc. 

Nagumo Haruya:  He doesn't like to read, unless they are books or comics about aliens. He has a collection on this subject that ranges from the most scientific disclosure to books on conspiracy. When he buys one of these books, he looks through it and reads it little by little.

Nakata Hidetoshi:  He doesn't read much because he prefers to use his free time to training football or for his studies. But occasionally he likes to relax with a samurai novel that helps him remember how much he loves his country despite being far away. The Stories of “Tange Sazen” are his favorites.

Otonashi Haruna:  She loves comics and manga. She reads a lot of superheroes and his favorite is Spiderman, although she likes them all. She also reads many shojo mangas, she especially likes “Ouran Host Club” and “Card Captor Sakura”.

Raimon Natsumi: She likes reading a lot, it's one of the things she likes most. She loves books whose protagonists are women, regardless of literary genre. Her favorite book is "The Heart of the Banshee" and she also likes the books of "Memories of Idhun" and "Nothing".

Rococo Urupa:  He doesn't read much, although he doesn't dislike it as such, he simply has other priorities. He is updated on sports news and little else. He has a book that he likes very much and it is "The mines of King Solomon".

Sakuma Jirou:  He doesn't read so much, but when he finds a good book, he devours it from beginning to end and it is better to leave him alone and not bother him. He likes adventure books like "Treasure Island", "Tom Sawyer" or "Robinson Crusoe".

Saginuma Osamu: Reading is one of his hobbies, he likes to read anything although his favorite genre is poetry. He really likes Matsuo Basho, Shakespeare and Lord Byron. He also reads Pablo Neruda and likes to write Haikus when he feels inspired. He reads the newspaper every day.

Shishido Sakichi: He likes to read when he finds a book that catches his eye, he reads it little by little to make it last longer, and because he can't stand reading for really long. His favorite book is "Oliver Twist".

Shourinji Ayumu: He reads from time to time, it is not something he likes very much, what he likes to read are stories about ninjas or martial artists. His favorite work is "The Ninja". He also really likes the manga of "Ranma ½".

Someoka Ryugo: Reading is for the borings, Someoka prefers to do some physical activity rather than reading, although occasionally he flips through something without much interest in anything in particular. The only book that has managed to touch his heart is "The Little Prince".

Suzuno Fuusuke: He likes to read occasionally, it is not something he looks for every day although for him it is a pleasant pastime. He likes books of social criticism and analysis of people. Therefore, it is easy to find him with books such as "The Prince", "The Metamorphosis", "The Wealth of Nations" or even "Mein Kampf".

Tachimukai Yuuki: He likes youth novels, not so serious and more destined to have a fun time. His favorite books are "Harry Potter" and also "Septimus." He likes fantasy and books related to magic. He also fondly stores "The Famous Five" book collection. After reading a book he likes, he will recommend it to Toramaru.

Teres Tolue: He likes to read, although he doesn't do so much because he doesn't have much free time. His favorite works are "One Hundred Years of Solitude", "Hopscotch", "The City and the Dogs" and "The Death of Artemio Cruz". He also reads poetry in Spanish especially from Machado and Neruda.

Tobitaka Seiya: He likes to read, especially Japanese literature. His favorite books mix the action with the psychological thriller, he also likes samurai stories a lot. His favorite book is "Out".

Tsunami Jousuke: He doesn't like to read, he's unable to focus with a book in front. He prefers to spend his time surfing or anything else. He is one of those who think that if a book is so good, it will have a movie. The only things he has read over a long, long time are “Moby Dick”, “Twenty thousand leagues under the sea” and “The Little Mermaid”, he is not a thematic boy at all.

Urabe Rika: She doesn't like much to read, so she doesn't do it as normal and when she is forced to read something she does it protesting. Although when looking at the social network profiles of her acquaintances she is a true master. She sometimes sees some shojo manga, but she prefers to watch them in anime. Her favorite is "Fruits Basket".

Utsunomiya Toramaru: "Artemis Fowl" is his favorite book. He likes fantasy and science fiction books, which are easy to read and make him have a fun time. He also likes "Sherlock Holmes" books and "Detective Conan" mangas because he is passionate about detective stories. He reads occasionally, normally he is very busy with his chores, although he usually takes a while to talk to Tachimukai since they both share similar tastes.

Yagami Reina: She likes to read, because new worlds and realities seem to be within her reach. She likes tales a lot because then she tells them to the little children of the Sun Garden. Her favorite stories are "Beauty and the Beast" and "Alice in Wonderland".

Yamino Kageto: Only read if he find something he thinks is worth reading. He likes horror and gothic genre, the works that attract his attention are dark and often tragic. His favorite books are "The Portrait of Dorian Gray", "Dracula" and "Faust".

Zaizen Touko: She likes to read although she doesn't like to admit it, because when she does everyone thinks it's because she's a "good girl". She likes action books, with dark or not too happy touches, "The Call of the Wild" and "The Three Musketeers" are her favorite books.

That above was my first real bike. It was an early 2000′s Hoffman Condor. I was dead set on getting it instead of anything else. Even as a kid, I was really into researching things for the sake of researching and the conclusion I came up with is that I needed to get a Hoffman Condor. It wasn’t based on real empirical evidence(some things never change) but I liked the idea of running the same type of bike the Condor did when he did the no-handed 900. It was such a mystical trick. It was pre Youtube, in the dial up days where people would post a scanned sequence online cause the idea of creating gif was beyond the skill set of the majority of internet users and even a few second video clip uploaded by someone who isn’t a professional of sorts was mind blowing. I still have the Hoffman Super Fork lying around somewhere in the house. Peg bosses and all. I bring this up cause I have nothing but respect for the Condor and in BMX with it’s heavy us verses them mentality, any point of argument will automatically be shut down. And it’s not even an argument really. It’s just a difference in thought I noticed. I’m gonna try my best to be objective which I think I can maintain cause I honestly don’t know what to think about all this.

Those are the two reading sort of required to understand all this. Both opposing views. One made by the largest legend in our lifestyle/hobby/sport/art/whatever you wanna call it and another is an anonymous commenter who seems to have a pretty well thought view. 

Mat Hoffman’s word in BMX is truth. Regardless of whether he’s right or wrong, it doesn’t matter cause he’s built up a legacy and reputation that has upheld the tenants of what he believes is right for BMX. Throughout the years, it’s never been questioned his motivations or his adherence to his own views. Whethers it’s pushing the rider-owned brand and then further into Taiwanese factories to keep BMX cheap for the masses or being there when BMX was ready to blow up with the whole “eXtreme sports” hysteria. There is a whole book called the “Ride of my Life” that documents him that elaborates on all this further (or check out this Albion interview which is just as informative). The Idea is that the Condor is a stalwart of BMX and in world where there aren’t conclusive answers to the questions the BMX industry asks, Hoffman’s word has every right to be spoken and heard. He’s like that old grandpa you ask for life advice cause he saw so much and experienced that much more. Just cause he’s a grandpa don’t make him always right but... he definitely knows more and has a higher chance of being right than most..and Mat Hoffman is against the UCI. Understandably so. 

The UCI is an international organization that governs all forms of cycling. All the avenues of what it exactly does evades me but the big thing to understand is the various cycling entities is given a larger corporate identity that can involve itself with actual corporations for money. Even if all of BMX was run by a singular company maybe like.. RideBMX or Danscomp or S&M. It’d be a laughable presence for companies compared to companies like Pepsi to sponsor their events in a serious way. On one hand it’s a high level of bureaucracy that very few in BMX are truly capable of, and BMX isn’t a blip in corporations like thats radar. The UCI is an organization that can possibly make it a blip. 

I don’t know how the UCI is directly directly run by but I imagine it’s a bunch of suits who do not have cycling industry experience.. probably some business degree from some fancy company. Maybe they did well with some regional juice company few years before and got a better offer by the UCI so switched jobs. They’re numbers people and that’s what they understand and the language they speak.The reputations these numbers people get proceeds them. At one point a company like Breyer’s probably made really good ice cream, then they went public, then these numbers people came in and looked at the numbers, they realized if they changed sugar to high fructose corn syrup that they’d save a lot of money at the expense of some taste, then they did that to a lot of other avenues which cut costs like amount of milk or changing from handmade to factory made, increasing the budget for marketing verse quality control, which leads them to being sold them in every supermarket in the United States. Now Breyer’s is a household item which makes millions more than it ever did but is half the product it ever was. I think Mat Hoffman is afraid that this kind of snowball effect will happen if BMX was to be controlled by the UCI. For BMX to involve themselves with numbers people who honestly don’t care about the means just the results. It’s completely understandable too.

I think the people who involve themselves with the UCI that are riders are all well intentioned. I think they see that the UCI has something to offer and that in a way real BMX will never truly die. Something like the music industry. Music is a multi-billion industry that has Grammy’s by so called best artists, album sales, song plays, all these number based things but in the end real music continues to exist cause the need for real music continues to exist. I think the riders who involve themselves with the UCI see BMX in a similar fashion. Sure there is going to be A CHANCE in BMX being changed but it’s only on superficial level and only exists to fuel the rest of BMX that will continue to be what it is. To think of BMX expanding, I think a lot of people would think that instead of complete corporate takeover of BMX, that this would be how all this pans out. If all this happens in the first place. 

The fact is that BMX doesn’t have money. For growth to happen, it needs money fueling it. The UCI and this whole Olympic situation is the best chance BMX has in growing in a drastic way. Plenty argue against the growth but that’s cause a lot of BMX is anti-social and a bit elitist like that. Which is honestly part of BMX that I love the best cause BMX created a video where some suburban kid ate his own poop and it was celebrated. That’s pretty cool. Seeing some banner in the background of the X-Games ramps that will be watched by millions in hopes that there is gonna be more clicks for that company’s website, hopefully creating more sales all directly tying back with that egregiously expensive spot for that $10 banner. It’s like Breyer’s ice cream. It’s a complete corporate mentality. Like there is probably gonna be a spread sheet of some sort predicting sales based on banner placement and tv screen time to explain all this for the number’s people. It’s not really BMX. 

The reason the counter argument on Reddit brings up Fise is cause there is numbers that can be directly generated from that. Which in turn makes it an easier sell for the UCI, to sell to the larger corporations who have that real world money that can make a difference. Art is not supposed to be quantifiable, that’s why people always make big noise when some weird abstract art ends up selling for millions. Well.. there’s countless others that are equally as weird that will never sell for a dime. What I think some people worry is that can be as expressive and abstract as BMX will fall into the later category. It has some type of understood value but ultimately still worthless in real world money. If we’re gonna try to quantify things I can say right now the type of risks that Sean Burns takes does not equate the amount of money he probably makes. I don’t Yhe tricks he’s doing and the potential harm he can do for himself and buildings around him is probably gonna be a heavy risk burden for insurance companies. You hear big name professional riders take a bad fall and go on GoFundMe, it’s cause BMX is not paid nearly as much as the risks involved in that sense. But then we get into artistic argument of whether Sean Burns should be paid more cause he’s risking more compared to someone like Mathias Dandois who does flatland which is definitely less risky but seems to be able to generate good numbers by being ranked number in 1 flatland(not sure if it’s true). BMX is not something you can easily put money value into and any larger corporate entity will probably just avoid it all together cause it’s a headache to understand. They’ll take skateboarding cause the money that they generate is easily understood and in their opinion just as appealing if not more than BMX. There aren’t numbers people in BMX often so people who organize FISE would be conduit for the UCI and it’s BMX program. 

What Hoffman and DMC did is not something that can be understood by numbers alone. How can you put a number on respect or what they achieved cause you can’t and that’s why the UCI is so easy to disrespect them. It’s not like they don’t have any real world value, they certainly do and their experiences also but for something as foreign as BMX can be, it’s not easily transcribable for something as large as the UCI, Olympics, large corporations or anything on that level. Numbers are their only language, the accomplishments of Hoffman and the DMC will fall on deaf ears. On one hand it does seem like Hoffman is willing to compromise but once again, to us Hoffman is all, to them he’s more or less just an overdecorated lobbyist. 

It goes back to the whole question on how to grow BMX cause a lot of our industry certainly wants it. Whether to grow it slowly in an organic fashion which seems at times truly fruitless or cut a deal with the devil and do what it takes it to really make some changes. Cause it seems like every single time the corporations start having a hold in BMX, there certainly are noticeable changes people always bring up. For better or worse though. I don’t know though. No one does. That’s why were in this situation.

Another Paranormal AU - Coldflash

Ghost!Barry is forlorn and acting in a way that is unusual for those in the spirit realm. This catches the attention of Medium!Len, who does not frequently engage with his sixth sense.

This is my shot at a Coldflash Ghost!Barry AU, written for Day 4 of Coldflash Week 2017 B., but I am quite a bit late.

I apologize for any weird auto-correct things in this. I wrote it completely in the notes on my phone.

Len had been a medium ever since he could remember. The paranormal arts have run in their family for generations. His sister could even walk on the other side if she went deep enough into a trance.

Lisa assures him that he would likely be able to do the same, if he just let himself. Len won’t though. Being aware and in touch with his ability and letting himself succumb to it completely are two different things.

Lately Len had been seeing a lot more spirits. They were obviously the victims of the STAR Labs particle accelerator explosion.

One kept catching his eye though. The young spirit seemed to be clinging on to his human life more so than the others.

He was frequently at Jitters, lingering near a group of cops. He hangs out around Central City Police Department, Central City Picture News, a couple houses in the suburbs, and at an apartment in Lisa’s building most frequently.

Len knew this because after noticing the young man several weeks in a row, he began tracking him, using his ability to hone in on the spirit’s aura and spiritual signature.

This spirit was odd as far as spirits go. Spirits typically don’t stay in one area for long, especially when newly deceased. They also tend to form groups and cause some chaos or unease wherever they are. Not to mention, Central isn’t the usual kind of place that those in the spirit realm enjoy frequenting. There aren’t many old houses or spooky graveyards.

This spirit does not interact with other spirits, nor does he participate in any of the usual hauntings. He’s handsome, with perfect windswept hair and piercing eyes, clearly  young, and, from his aura, Len can tell that he is in a perpetual state of melancholy. Len supposes that the kid hasn’t even tried to communicate with the other spirits in Central.

It makes Len want to help, even though he tries to ignore his abilities more often than not.

“Len,” called Lisa, disrupting his reverie. “You thinking about the cute spirit again?”

Len gave her an exasperated look. He did not want to go over this again.

“I know you are,” she said. “You should really just talk to him, Len. It seems like he could use some help with his transition to the other side.”

“Then why don’t you do it?” Len asked. “You’re more into the medium stuff than I am anyway.”

“You’re the one who’s spending the majority of your time tracking his spiritual signature around the city and going crazy thinking about him,” Lisa replied.

“I am not,” Len said.

“Mm-hm,” Lisa replied with a disapproving stare. “He’s downstairs at the apartment right now. Just go talk to him.”

“And how am I supposed to do that?” Len asked. “Just walk downstairs, knock on the door, say ‘Hi, there’s a spirit in your house and is like to talk with him.’ That’ll go over like a lead baloon. And then what happens if they let me in, which wouldn’t happen, and he just decided not to talk back. No signs no nothing. Then I look like even more insane. Not happening.”

“Just call him up here then,” she suggested.

“Hmph.” Len crossed his arms and adjusted himself on the couch, slouching and looking more petulant than ever.

“I’ll just do it for you then, but you have to talk to him once he comes, and I’m sure he will.”

Lisa immediately began calling to the spirit, before Len had a chance to protest. She closed her eyes and embraced the slight cold feeling that noted the presence of the spirit realm. Without making a sound in the physical realm, she called out in the spirit realm, using what she thought might compel the spirit, for she had been watching him too. His actions were concerning, and when her brother took an interest it was even more reason to pay attention to him. She appealed to the spirit’s humanity,  his loneliness. She mentioned that she and her brother were mediums still deeply rooted in the human realm, and within minutes the young spirit was in her living room.

He was uneasy. He fidgeted and his ever never stayed looking in one place for too long. He was here, though, and that was the aim apparently.

“It’s alright,” Lisa assured. “You’re safe.”

The spirit glanced at Lisa, but her words didn’t seem to calm him.

“You’re okay,” she said. “We’re here to help you.”

Another glance, but still no other response. Lisa looked at Len pointedly.

Len sighed before he spoke. “Look kid, you’re behaving very strangely for someone recently crossed over, and we just want to help if we can. It’s not our usual M. O., but we’ve taken an interest in you, so you can take our help, or leave it.”

The kid’s eyes landed and locked on Len. There was a moment of silence before he spoke.

“You both can actually see me?” He asked, looking between Lisa and Len.

“That we can,” replied Len.

“We’re mediums,” Lisa explained, answering the next question before it could leave the spirit’s mouth. “We’ve been able to see your kind since we were young. I’ve even gone so far as to walk in the spirit realm.”

“Then you can help me,” the spirit said on an excited rush. “You can help me to contact my family and friends.”

Len loved the way the spirit’s melancholy disposition completely turned around. He seemed so lively and hopeful. His grin could light up a thousan cities. Len hated to be the one to take that hope away from him.

“Hold on there kid,” Len said. “That’s a dangerous game, for many reasons. One, people don’t tend to believe in such a thing as the spirit realm these days. Did you believe before you crossed over?”

The spirit shook his head. He already looked dejected again.

“That leads me to believe that your friends and family wouldn’t either,” Len said. “Two, due to the lack of belief, mediums are seen as hoaxes and vultures who prey on those who are grieving. Three, our lifestyle choices do not make us well received in common society. Can you guess what we do?” Len gestured around the nearly empty apartment, which clearly looked like a typical safe house would in a TV  show or movie.

The kid grimaced. “I know who you are,” he said. “I worked for the CCPD when I was alive.”

Len he held the kid’s gaze with a straight stare.  Of course. The one spirit who happened to catch his eye would have to be a badge.

“Then why do you want us to help you?” Len asked.

The spirit curled in on himself under Len’s gaze. He turned to Lisa.

“I just wanted to talk with them again, and tell them I’m not leaving them” he said quietly.

“Why don’t you want to leave them, sweetheart?” Lisa asked gently.

“I just can’t leave them,” he said. “They made my life bearable, and I’d hate to lose them because I’m the one who left.”

“I hate to break it to you kid, but you’re already gone,” Len commented. “You’re in the afterlife already. You’re friends and family will have to get along without you, and you’ll have to get along without them.”

If a spirit could cry, this one would be crying right now with how forlorn he looks. Lisa glared at Len again.

“But you’ll see them again, "she assured. "They’ll come to the spirit realm eventually, and you can search for them there. It may take you a while to find them, but I know that families  have reconnected on your plane of existence. You can also make new friends in the spirit realm. You may have to travel a bit to do it, but it can happen.”

“Thats not much help,” the the spirit said after a moment. “Hopefully it will be year before any of my family or friends end up here, and I won’t know when they do. I’ve never been good at making new friends, and Central is my home.  I’ve never wanted to leave it.”

Len rolled his eyes. This was getting ridiculous.

“You’re just impossible.” Len said. “Here we are trying to reassure you and give you solutions, but you shoot all of them down. It’s like you’re actively trying to make yourself miserable.”

The spirit frowned.

Lisa cast a cautious glance at her brother. She knew he would hate her idea, but she thought it might be good for him.

“Well, if you’re so intent on staying in Central,” she said, “then we could be your friends.”

If looks could kill, Lisa would be dead by the one her brother gave her, but if looks could resurrect, Lisa would be alive again based on the one from the spirit. “Really?” the spirit asked excitedly. “I don’t want to be lonely, but you’re the only people, alive otherwise who have shown any interest in  talking to me.”

“A cutie like you?” Lisa asked, “How could anyone ignore someone as cute and handsome as you?”

Len swore that the spirit blush, which he didn’t even think was possible until that moment.

“Yeah kid, we’ll keep you,” Len said.

He may hate Lisa for suggesting it, but the kid could definitely use a friend, and maybe they could get him to do some haunting or gather intel for heists, but that was a definite maybe due to that CCPD background.

The spirit looked excited and hopeful. The grin on his face definitely made the decision worth it in Len’s mind. He knew that he would do whatever he could to make sure that smile stayed on the young spirit’s face.

“But,” Len said raising a finger to make it seem like there was a big condition on yhe arrangement, “we’ll need your name.”

“It’s Barry,” the spirit said quickly, “short for Bartholomew.”

Lisa jumped in to introduce herself. “Lisa, although you already know that.”

“Hello Barry, Len said, "You can call me Len.”

Day 8, (15th Dec, 2019)/Sunday

It was an interesting day. At around 6:30 in morning, loud bhajan songs started emanating from the temple. I woke some time after that. I was the first one to take bath. Sangram (My cousin) came to our house and invited me to Pav Bhajji Breakfast at his home.

After installing Saffron Flag atop the temple with the help of my cousin, I went to his house. Aatya ( My father's sister) pav bhajji was good. Lot of sugar in tea, usually tea with so much sugar is not made in our house.

Then me and sangram planned to go for movie. It was either #Mardaani2 or #Jumanji. I was actually not interested in both the movies. But anyways I thought nothing else to do and agreed.

Then we went to our Angol house because I wanted to wear shoes. There father outright rejected our plan and told us to come with him and Abaji ( My Grandfather) to Jangamhatti ( Our paternal ancestral village). Somehow forcefully he convinced us, and I also didn't protest too much since I more interested in going to our village ( Not my First time, have gone many times, but never lived there ) than any of those movies. We went at around 12:30 pm.

Jangamhatti village is around 45 min from Belgaum, located in Chandgad taluka, Kolhapur Dist, Maharashtra. A fairly big Dam called by name of this village is located very near to it, so water problem are less and plentiful water is available for agriculture.

Photo 1- This road heads straight to the village. We stopped after taking the turn from a NH. At this turn there are lot of shops, some of them sell good onion and mirchi pakoras. I remember, when I was small my family used to stop at this joint to eat every time we came to visit our village. Somehow that has stopped now, maybe we have stopped eating "unhygienic food" or maybe we have just started hating pakoras😅.

Photo 2 -- As we approach the village, Kalanandigad/Fort can be seen. Never visited but it is said to have beautiful views and is of the times of Shivaji Maharaj.

Photo 3 & 4-- We first stopped at out farm, where grown sugarcane was being harvested to be sent to Factory. In the photo people can be seen cutting it and making bundles out of it to be loaded on tractor. In case you are wondering, all of them are hired, none related to us.

Photo 5--- After vsiting our farms, we went to Abaji's elder brother's house. My grandfather's elder brother Subbarao K died in 2016 due to cancer. In photo his widow can be seen. She is also basically my grandmother. She is elder than my grandfather, cooks, and sometimes works in farm as well, basically far more fit and healthier than all of us urban chaps. She has a son Jyotiba who also works on our fields. She made nice Bakhri and baji for all of us. And mind you these were not made on LPG gas but on "Chulha" fired from wood. I know it has harmful effects on health but yhe food made on it tastes very good. And notice how she is wearing the traditional Maharashtrian attire, the navhari Saree. We urban chaps have moved far beyond such attires. We need to do something to attract the youth to such attires and at the same time make sure it is affordable, comfortable and classy. I don't know how, but we need to protect our culture. Even I have to learn a lot in that regard.

Photo 8-- In Maharashtra, in every house you will find portrait r statue of Shivaji Maharaj. Our house in our ancestral village is no different.

Photo 9-- This is basically village town center. A kind of chowk with statue of Shivaji Maharaj. As I said people of MH are really obsessed with Shivaji Maharaj. Obsessed in a positive way. He is a god here.

After that we came back to Belgaum by 5:00 in evening. Me and Sangram went to eat Bhel and Panipuri. Ate it after a long long time.

By 6pm we started our journey towards Vasco. I must say, I am really inspired/astonished by my fathers driving skill and driving stamina. He doesn't seem to be tired even after driving all day. My tailbone hurts just by sitting in the car for so long, forget about driving.

So in all a very good day with lot of exposure. Listened to problems of Sugarcane farming and how we still want to grow only sugarcane, how village rivalries are being played out, how we are unnecessarily getting involved in murky waters of village politics, how people are taking advantage of us being urban chaps & not having local connect, how we made some bad investments and decisions etc. Basically a good experience, far more than what I could have got from watching any of those 2 movies.

Sometimes I wonder what if my grandfather hadn't got selected in Army, what if he would have stayed back in village and never would have moved to Belgaum city, how life would be totally different. Some good decisions and he improved lives and standards of living of his future generations by many folds. Same can be said about my father. Hope I also take the same kind of intergenerational good decisions. Let's hope.

I've discussed getting a mustang to my family and friends for quite a while now. I know the downsides, high insurance, bad gas mileage, and too much power(according to my parents). I'm a big fan of the foxbody('79-'93) mustangs and I also really want a V8 and I also want stick if that matters. I have never had a vilolation. My husband has. He had one in 2006 for running a red light and one in 2008 for driving too fast for conditions. Well naturally this has given me higher payments. I was with Liberty Mutual and for liability only (my car isn't worth full coverage) I was paying $124 a month. My husbands pay was cut drastically at work so I was shopping around for cheaper insurance. I called Geico and they offered me liability for $55 a month. She came on and asked if I knew he had two tickets and at the time I didn't because I didn't know my husband in 2006. The lady told me my payments were going to be $144 with them and when I told her no she put me on hold. When she returned she offered me the $55. She read back to me everything I am getting which is a lot more than what I was getting from Liberty Mutual for a lot less price.
