It’s because the magic is missing. Or. It’s there but we just can’t or don’t know how to access it anymore.

It was our birthright, and it was taken from us. And we’re angry about it. We were written and created for lives more colorful and exciting than what our current universe can offer anyone besides the ultra-rich.

“Thought you were over that, bruv.” Isaac frowned up at him from his usual spot on the locker bench.

“I have only ever had one nightmare.” Richard declared. “All of my beautiful little teeth fell out of my mouth and I was ugly. Who will kiss me if I have no teeth?”

“Who’s losing teeth?” Jamie asked, joining the conversation from the doorway with a furrowed brow.

“We are discussing nightmares,” Jan explained matter-of-factly, then turned back to Richard. “Dreams about losing teeth are commonly attributed to stress.”

Jamie shook his head, still looking confused.

“Nah, don’t get that one, mate. Your dentist can just stick ‘em right back in, can’t they?”

That sparked a round of horrified protests and Jamie flapped his hands like a conductor to quiet the rabble.

“Eh, eh, I’m right!”

“Actually…” Sam held up his phone, open on an NHS webpage. “Jamie is correct.”

The locker room erupted into disgust and outrage while Jamie grinned smugly and tipped his I,COG cap to Sam for the assist.

“Hold on, how did you know that?” Isaac demanded, staring at Jamie like he had two heads. That quietened the team a little as heads swivelled in Jamie’s direction.

“Knocked two of ‘em out when I were, like, 10.” He shrugged and tapped a fingernail against one of his front teeth in demonstration. “Mum’s friend were a dental nurse. Told her to put them in some milk and take me to hospital.”

“You were very lucky.” Sam commented, still scrolling through the information he had found. “A significant gap in your teeth can lead to premature ageing.”

“And what a tragedy that would have been, eh?” Jamie beamed, gesturing to his face. “To think I might have deprived the world of this top tier mug.”

Other players groaned and laughed, a few tossing socks or discarded shirts in Jamie’s direction while he ducked, sniggering.

“How do you know they gave you your real teeth back?” Bumbercatch questioned, with an air that suggested great suspicion of the dentistry profession as a whole.

Jamie considered that. “Fair point,” he conceded. “They feel like mine, though.”

“Wait, how do you even manage to lose two teeth at once?” Colin interjected, muffled by his fingers as he prodded his own mouth in confusion. “I’ve never lost any after my baby teeth.”

“Took a snooker cue to the face.” The team winced as a collective and Jamie nodded sagely. “Were pretty grim. Blood all over the pub floor and everything.”

“You were 10?” Thierry clarified, face scrunched up. “Do kids normally get into bar fights here?”

“Well, yeah, s’pose not.” Jamie shuffled in place, suddenly looking a bit uncomfortable. “Weren’t a fight so much. Dad took me in to watch a match and it all kicked off a bit.”

An uneasy quiet overtook the general hubbub and more than one face went stony at that revelation.

“Mate.” Jeff looked like he’d rather not be the one probing further, but had bitten the bullet anyway. “Your, uh, your dad wasn’t the one with the pool cue, was he?”

“Eh…” Jamie glanced around the room before answering. “Well, yeah. He was. But I’m, like, 90% sure it were an accident.”

Chaos detonated like a bomb.

Isaac and Richard jumped to their feet, one cursing in French, the other demanding to know how long it would take to get to Manchester. Colin seemed to be googling train times.

Dani had taken to rifling through his bag, looking for god knows what, and Thierry was strapping on his mask like it was war paint (he didn’t even need it anymore, he just liked looking scary).

Jan was a terrifyingly silent pillar in the middle of the storm and Sam… Well, Sam looked like he had been gutted.

“OI!” Roy’s bellow commanded immediate silence, players freezing mid-shout. He was framed by the door to the coaches’ office, arms crossed and typical glare set in place. “What the fuck is going on out here?”

“Close ranks!” Jamie all but squeaked, invoking a hallowed, sacred vow from the team to collectively shut the fuck up.

All eyes turned to Issac who, as captain, had the final say.

On balance, he decided it was probably best that their new manager didn’t get arrested for murder before the season even got underway.

“Agreed.” he finally acquiesced and the whole room affirmed their compliance sullenly. It just wasn’t worth the forfeit to cave in under Roy’s (very effective) glare.

“... right then.” Roy finally allowed, still looking at them all suspiciously. “Then get out on the pitch and stop wasting our time.”

Everyone clamoured towards the tunnel, eager to escape the intense atmosphere. All except Jamie, who was still hurriedly pulling on his kit.

He tried not to seize up when Roy sidled over.

“You’ll tell me later.”

It wasn’t phrased as a question and Jamie knew better than to take it as one. He slumped in defeat.

Deciphering Mikoto's phone!

This is mostly focusing on miscellaneous bits of his phone screen, for a full translation of his texts, I recommend Rochisama's wonderful translation

Before the first call, we see the time is 0:35 in the morning. In the top right corner, we can see the train station apparently gets 4G and Mikoto's battery is at 29% He is getting texts from his チーフ (Chiifu/chief/boss) on milgram's equivalent of LINE (basically Japanese Whatsapp) Each notification is called メッセージ (messeji/message) and we can see that the most recent two do not have timestamps (although usually new messages on Japanese phones get timestamped 今/ima/now though I don't think this has any significance) But the two messages already on Mikoto's phone were sent 5分前/go fun mae/5 minutes ago and 7分前/nana fun mae/7 minutes ago At the bottom of the screen is the message スワイプでロック解除 (suwaipu de rokku kaijo) meaning 'swipe to unlock' (or more literally 'swipe to release lock' but this is a standard phrase on Japanese lockscreens - although many examples on google images say スライド/slide instead of swipe, once again this probably has no significance)

Next is when Mikoto's boss begins calling him Under the big チーフ (boss) we see the kanji for 携帯 (keitai/mobile phone) this means Mikoto's boss is probably calling from a personal cell rather than an office phone... Under Mikoto's thumb is more standard phone stuff the one almost hidden is 後で通知 (ato de tsuuchi/Notify me later) Under the red hang up button is 拒否 (kyohi/refuse) and under the green accept call button is 応答 (outou/reply)

Finally we get to the call with Mikoto's mother, labeled 母さん/kaasan, this isn't actually that childish a thing to refer to your mother as (at least to her, it would be if Mikoto told a stranger like Es or his boss he was calling his 'kaasan', in those situations he'd be expected to say 母/haha) Its slightly more casual than お母さん/okaasan but it doesn't really matter that much, its a quite common term, especially for teenage boys/young men (Interestingly, in his first interrogation question of T1, Mikoto does write 'mother' as お母さん but that might not be too odd because he answers all his T1 questions like its a social media bio, which you'd expect to be casual)

Underneath this we see the phrase 通話終了 (tsuuwa shuuryou/call terminated) Above we see there is still 4G, be battery is harder to read, but still seems to say 29%/be in a similar charge to before But the time has changed to 6:09 (presumably still in the morning)

(the other options not visible on Mikoto's phone say ミュート (myuuto/mute), キーパッド (kiipaddo/keypad), スピーカー (supiikaa/speaker) and 通話を追加 (tsuuwa wo tsuika/add call)

Out of all decapitations on this series, this one had the least punch. Music and sound design did all the heavy lifting.

Hi! Hello! my name is Taylor and i'm a 31 year old brain injury survivor. I haven't used tumblr since i was a teenager and im not sure if i can pin this post so it comes up first so excuse my lack of tumblr navigation.

I wanted to create this space as a gentle reminder to myself that my writing matters and also as a way for other disabled folk to find some relatability or relief knowing they are not alone. I'm hoping it could also educate others on just the severity of what we go through on a daily basis.

i'm not sure if anything will eventuate from this but if i give one person insight into something they previously knew nothing about then hey, that's cool. So a little bit about me...

i am a scorpio sun, aquarius moon and capricorn rising with a sag merc + venus and cancer mars (oof, right?!). Astrology aside, im a 31 year old living with an acquired brain injury in Adelaide, Australia (Kaurna Land).

When i was 12 years old, 3 days before my 13th birthday, i suffered a right MCA (Middle Cerebral Artery) CVA (Cerebral Vascular Accident). Basically, i had a massive stroke deep in the middle right side of my brain. I was at school at the time and my school didn't call an ambulance straight away. Negligence (sprinkled with ignorance) aside, i was unable to receive medical intervention leaving me permanently disabled for the rest of my life. I suffered with full left side hemiplegia, seizures, cognitive deficits and a substantial amount of teenage angst at the time along with some hysterical laughter. I have now learnt that was something called the pseudobulbar affect and that i wasn't actually losing my mind, that i had just suffered a significant trauma and my brain was like "nah man". My nana died on the same day and i hysterically laughed when my parents told me a few weeks into my 3 month inpatient stay where i had physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. I like to think she was my guardian angel. I learnt to walk and talk again, actually, i had to learn everything again and after numerous tests and scans, the hospital informed me that a genetic mutation was the cause. A compound heterozygous MTHFR (Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) which can predispose to thromboembolism to be exact, and yes I still interpret the acronym as motherfu*cker, because it sure was to me and my family at that time.

Over the last almost 19 years i have spent working hard on a body i never signed up to have. I have survived not only an ABI but relentless bullying, substance abuse, trauma's and grief along the way. As i've aged i have regressed, and in 2021 after sustaining a concussion and being diagnosed with concussion syndrome, things got a lot harder and my mobility suffered greatly. With that came debilitating daily migraines, stroke regressions, chronic pain and worsening mental health problems.

I do weekly physiotherapy and have been very fortunate to benefit from NDIS here in Australia. My goal is to eventually become a disability and mental health advocate, while still somehow working on my mobility on a daily basis and trying to survive.

My Grandad, who was more like a Dad to me, passed away Sunday evening.

He had Alzheimer's & Vascular Dementia & had deteriorated significantly in recent weeks, never truly recovering from a prolonged hospital stay for chronic infections that no antibiotics seemed able to clear.

He loved animals. He tamed a Jackdaw as a young man, had it follow him and bring him things. His beloved dog Rex, who he knew as a puppy, was loyal and obedient and loved him dearly. He loved walking. He loved his family. He was proud to work for the company he worked for.

He was illiterate. He left school at age 12. He always encouraged my sister & I in our schooling, even when there were parts of it he didn't understand (like why I had to do another year at university for a PGCE when I had already been at uni for 3 years). He hid it well.

He was funny. He joked with us all the time. Telling us how he hated technology like mobile phones so he would use a drum in the back garden as a means of communicating with us. He told waiters his wife/my Nana had whiskey on her cornflakes instead of milk.

He told me not to get in trouble when he learned I was cohabiting with my partner.

When I told my family we were moving to Hong Kong, he said virtually nothing, but took my partner aside as we were leaving & told him he'd better take care of me.

When he was recently asked what his hobbies were, he told the social worker, "Watching my family grow up".

He chased my sister's bullies across a field and threatened them.

His father was a Tyrant.

He did National Service.

He gave his mother every penny he earned. When she died, she told him she had spent none of it, that it was his money, and that he was not to tell his father about it.

He was the youngest of about 9 children.

I miss him dearly.

Whilst I had every intention of finishing The Cell soon... ain't gonna happen. Maybe in a week's time I will write, maybe tomorrow I will write. But I cannot make any realistic estimate for when this story will end. In fairness - with the release of Payday 3 & inevitable influx of new fans - people will have more content than ever to consume &, well. It's not a big deal. There will be very talented people joining the fandom, I am sure.

I may generally be less active here because. Y'know. Grief.

Live Action Movie 2 Ramble

Hi hi here's my little pinned post / welcome / explanation post for this lil blog.

I'm Kenz, they/them (okayish still with she/her, but, eh), and my life was consumed by yugioh since I was a kid. So, I created a fuck ton of ocs for the main series, and this is where I decided to put everything. Why? Because my brain needs some level of organization and it's easier to have a blog with dedicated tags; and, for my mobile users, here's the link to the tag directory.

I do plan on doing a series of fics following my ocs journey across the main series, with some additional arcs and tweaks to the timeline and what all transpires bc I think some aspects would naturally change with these ocs additions and fuck it my canon now might as well make it unique. However, it's taking some time for me to get everything set up and ready to post it so please bare with me! And in the meantime I'll post drabbles as I write them!

My main ocs that I typically will go into several essays about are Kat, Maddox, Iris, Nana and Mason, though River is becoming a bit more prominent as I flesh them out; the other OCs are actually their families who have taken over quite a bit of real estate in my brain and especially the Grandma Squad, who will be featured in a prequel fic to showcase Solomon's adventures and the bonds he himself made.

The subgenre of horror-westerns is not often used. In 1966, however, Embassy Pictures released a pair of this mixed breed on a groovy double feature. Joining Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter (1966) is tonight’s feature discussion, Billy the Kid Versus Dracula (1966). Both of these genre mashups are directed by William Beaudine. Once again, Dracula is portrayed by John Carradine (House of Frankenstein, 1944; House of Dracula, 1945) and you might also recognize Chuck Courtney, who plays Billy the Kid, from (Pet Sematary, 1989). From there the cast becomes a who’s who of TV and Film Westerns character actors, putting Jeff in his happy place!

Carradine once said this film was “the worst movie he ever acted in.” The Grue-Crew may have other thoughts. Check it out now and let us know what you think of this bizarre and fun blend of genres. 

At the time of this writing, Billy the Kid Versus Dracula is available for streaming from several different sources. The Grue Crew found the best resolution on the Classic Horror Movie Channel and Kanopy, but, among others, it can also be found on Tubi and Plex. The film is available on physical media as a Blu-ray from Kino Lorber.

'Beyond Fatherhood: Changing The Narrative' book launched by DC Kwame Kwakye

Ace Broadcast Journalist, Fatherhood Advocate, writer and Author, DC Kwame Kwakye on Sunday 9th July, 2023 launched his maiden book on fatherhood with a call on fathers to change the narrative regarding fathering and fatherhood.

The book titled “Beyond Fatherhood: Changing The Narrative” was auctioned by Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North with Prof. G. K. T. Oduro, former Pro VC UCC as the Chair for the occasion. Speaking at the launch of the book, “The starting point of all achievement is desire – Napoleon Hill, it is out of this that I persevered even when I had only my mobile phone to write this book, I desired hence I have achieved”.

In outlining the reason for the book launch and what his reason and project means to the cause of fathers universally, he referenced Swami Vivekananda, ”Take up an idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, and live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea and just leave every other idea alone”.

He recounted that writing a book is a long, arduous and often solitary process so this book is not just about him and his experiences as a father. “It is about the power that connects fathers to their children, to help us understand one another, ultimately make society better and to build the many bridges that divides us”, DC Kwame Kwakye stated.

The author took the audience into an imaginative world by asking “Imagine seeing a dapper dressed young man as far back as ten years ago wearing a baby carrier with a baby in it holding an umbrella with all the necessary baby paraphernalia regularly and roaming the whole community going about his journalistic duties with same?

Again, Imagine yourself having to change your children’s diapers, bath them, feed and wash their clothes until they are about three years. Imagine having the ability to detect when your child is sick even when the symptoms aren’t evident amongst many other things and when you are done imagining, the image you see is me.

“It is my strongest conviction that men give birth and women only assist hence our responsibility to cater for them in all ways necessary and possible”,he shared.

The book according to DC Kwame Kwakye comes to fill a gap, one that existed before our birth. “This book brings fatherhood out of the shadows of just history and into the limelight so whether you are reading this book on your own or discussing it with others, my hope is that it sparks conversations and connections that might have not happened otherwise and challenge us to think differently”, he stated.

The author further indicated that “in every revolution there is one man with a vision; in the case of fatherhood, I am the visionary and this book is the vision. I have therefore titled this vision (book) ‘‘BEYOND FATHERHOOD: changing the narrative”

He ended by paying glowing tribute to his wife Mrs. Evelyn Asante Kwakye and his children, Hon. Dr Kwamena Minta Nyarku, MP Cape Coast North Constituncy, Michael Kwaku Kissi, Dr. Ebenezer Nana Gyamerah, Animal Science UCC, Nana Asubo Boateng, GCB and especially Professor George K.T. Oduro for their immense contribution in making his dream a reality.

Finally, he ended by saying he is available for private coaching but only when one get stuck after reading his book. He encouraged all and sundry to get a copy and together change the fatherhood narrative.
