oh yeah and before i forget:

officially ending november with a word count of 50,914! and for the first year ever, i actually updated my word count all 30 days!

even though it was one of my slowest years writing wise, it was probably the first year where i didn't feel like i was constantly fighting against all my self-loathing.

i think forcing myself to be intentional about my pacing really helped with that. even though i still had a handful of days where it was like "ugh i Do Not want to do this", i would at least write a few sentences and call it a day, which i think was crucial to not leading myself back to burnout.

reminding myself that it's a nanowrimo draft and i don't owe that draft anything other than completion also helped. i didn't owe that draft good prose. i didn't owe that draft good flow. it didn't matter how many times i used my crutch word of "something", that just means in editing i have to find out what that "something" is.

sure, writing wise I do think it was one of my weaker years. i still think my 2021 age of calamity fic was one of my best nano drafts, but thankfully i didn't like...use that against myself? in a lot of ways, i've had to remind myself that i had the mental equivalent of a broken leg. i wouldn't expect myself or anyone else to immediately go back to running after a broken leg, I can't expect myself to get back to writing "good" after everything that's been happening over the last few years.

anyways. at the end of the day, this was a really good nanowrimo, and i hope i can continue extending that sort of draft grace to myself as i go forward. i'm going to take a well-earned break through at least the next two weeks, then i'll jump back in and continue finishing out this draft. even if it's just one sentence at a time
