I started Zero Time Dilemma! Here are my notes.

-So like, up front, this is a very different game from VLR or 999. Its intro starts not with an escape sequence, but with a choice. This sets the stage for what this game is Really about, and it's definitely a shift. It might turn out to be a lot for me, as someone who's not used to decisions as core gameplay

-The fact it's all an autoplaying cutscene gives ZTD a very different vibe from previous Zero Escape games. Not sure if I like it, but I might like it soon.

-So like, okay. After doing some cursory research, this game was inspired by Telltale's "The Walking Dead." It's a more cinematic experience, to appeal to the West. The thing is that Telltale had been doing games like this for a decade, and also clearly had more of a budget. So while Zero Time Dilemma being able to have actual shot composition is cool, the characters animate less than characters animate in a Telltale game, or in previous Zero Escape games for that matter.

-SHE SAID AMONG US, SHE SAID ZERO IS AMONG US LET'S FUCKING GO

-God the redesigns of pre-existing characters for this game are so fucking funny. ZTD!Phi feels fucking engineered to be hot, her design shows less skin than Alice or Lotus but manages to feel so much more horny. Although maybe that's just my tastes.

-Oh my god the choice to remix songs from 999 as well as VLR is inspired. VLR already straight-up reused songs from 999, but there's some songs remixed from 999 that didn't show up in VLR. Love that! Genuinely, it's cool.

-Wait so is Diana actually American? Or is she just a redhead with blue eyes for aesthetic reasons?

-Oh my god Carlos is the most Nathan Drake-ass White Guy to ever be put into a Japanese game. He's got the face, jacket, the voice, the Blonde White Dude Haircut. I love that Zero Time Dilemma's new wacky creatures after VLR's GOLM and Zero III are just white people. (Please ignore this if being a Latino turns out to actually be part of Carlos's character)

-So the big thing is that even though this is cribbing from The Walking Dead, its time travel mechanic means that I'm exploring possibilities more than living with my decisions. Although I am VERY early on still, I haven't even gotten to an escape room yet! Speaking of,

-I have not gotten to an escape room yet. What the fuck? That's usually the start of the game! Instead the game starts me off with the decision mechanic and the fragment of time stuff.

-Oh my fucking god, titty physics? In a game where the characters are animated this little? Mira is this game's scantily clad big-breasted woman, and this game immediately services the fans.

-I mentioned Phi's design earlier, and I've gotta say it feels like these character designs were all intended to be either relatable or titilating to a western audience. Like yes, Mira, Akane, and Phi are all different brands of hottie, but there's also Carlos, aka the most Video Game Guy ever, there's Eric, who's just some dude, and also Sigma is also looking incredibly Mid-2010s Western Game Protagonist too. And Diana is the first playable female character in Zero Escape so I feel like she is designed to be at least a bit relatable to femme audiences.

-I love how this is literally just Saw. "Each of your rooms has a small yellow button. Pushing it will let you escape, but send a shower of hydrogen flouride to the other rooms, killing them. The early bird gets the worm." This rules.

-I remember playing 999 and VLR and feeling like they were kind of bloodless, despite all the blood and death. The thing is that in those games, I almost never had to live with the consequences of causing someone else's death, in a way that wouldn't also be causing the death of the entire group. You know, a Game Over. But here, living with the consequences of causing someone else's death is the entire gimmick of the narrative. It's horrifying! I love it. Since this is Zero Escape there's prooooobably gonna be a relatively bloodless True Ending, but the fact that I don't know if that's true here is definitely worth commending.

-I also love how extremely straightforward the gimmick is here, there's no Ambidex Game or Digital Root to deal with here, you just decide who to kill and when.

-Okay I know that fact-checking is anathema to Zero Escape's mystique but I refused to believe that the Sleeping Beauty Problem wouldn't be solved at this point, that's a mathematics thing, there's no way they just don't have an answer yet. So I check on Wikipedia, and apparently yeah, it's still open for debate! Shit! Wonder if this'll still be true in 2028 when the game takes place!

-…Yeah, this is definitely a game I'm gonna have to play in spurts. I'm kinda surprised, for a series that's always been about deadly games, just how much darker this one is. I kinda like it a lot, but it's definitely a lot to have to go through.

2. when in canon does your self insert come in? do you have a scene in mind for your entrance?

Okay so, Ash is actually in the same class as S.quall and.... um... the other guy. So you meet her from the get-go! She's the model student of the class and takes her studies at Garden extremely seriously. At the beginning, you can speak to her in the classroom and find her around Garden.

She also joins you on the SeeD mission thing to the town! So she's there for the TV Tower and all that. As you know, she fights with two guns. Pew pew, fuckers.

11. what kind of outfit(s) does your self insert wear?

AHSKAHDKAHDKAB I LOVE HER OUTFIT SO MUCH SJDHAJDHWJ

Okay so! At the very beginning, you see her in her school uniform.

These things! However I imagine that instead of short socks under her skirt, she had thigh-high length ones. As for hair, F.F8 Ash has her hair in one, long braid. That doesn't change no matter the outfit.

In her uniform, she uses a yellow ribbon for her hair. Her outfit later has a white ribbon.

However, once you become a SeeD, she does too. And she can finally change out of that stuffy uniform!!! Ash impresses everyone with her Style.

For the rest of the game, Ash dresses in tight, black jeans. She has dark red, laced boots that are kinda long, about mid-calf? Or maybe a little higher than her ankle? Whatever, she has nice looking boots!

As for her top half, she wears a simple white buttoned shirt (tucked into her jeans). On top of it is a leather, crossed shoulder holster she uses to store her guns. Very Nathan Drake, you know? Her sleeves are rolled up to her mid-forearm. She wears a few leather bracelets.

As for gloves, she only wears one glove and that's on her left hand. You know those shooting gloves that have every finger except for the pointer and middle covered? Yeah, she has one of those. She broke her wrist as a kiddo and sometimes needs some extra support on that hand since her gun can be a lot sometimes. Also brown leather, of course. She has an aesthetic and she sticks to it. I love her holster hehe!

As for head, her hair is still braided. She wears dark red glasses just like I do. And earrings are a fun one! She has two lobe piercings on each other.

On her right ear, on her lower piercing, she has a bright red hoop. Not very big. Probably something like this.

On her upper piercing on her right ear, she has a small gold hoop, like the upper one here.

As for her left ear, on her lower piercing, she wears a larger gold hoop just like the one on the left side in the picture above.

On her upper piercing on her left ear, she has a cute and small stud. Something like this.

Lost at sea isn’t that ideal, for you but Nathan seems to have other ideas! He takes your hand leading you to a large lake with so many autumn trees, surrounding the area. ‘Nate, what are we doing, exactly?’ You questioned, as he dips his leg into the water, you stop immediately, hands now on your waist giving him a glare. ‘I’m going for a swim, darling.’ He turns around, ‘care to join?’ He smirks, continuing to go back into the water. you didn’t even notice that his shirt is discarded on the path, right near your feet. You roll your eyes but going into the lake anyway, to join in with his attics. You swim to him, now in the middle of the lake ‘now this isn’t so bad is it?’ He whispers, right near your ear brushing some hair to comfort you. ‘Isn’t bad? Nathan!’ You dramatically outburst, ‘it is freezing,’ you scoff. ‘Come here then, Petal.’ He wraps his arms around your waist, cuddling you in the water, ‘let me warm you up,’ he chuckles, you let him share your body heat with him. ‘Nathan, I don’t know what your playing at! Because we are not dating.’ You stated, ‘oh, Yh well the fact that you got your arms around me says other wise Pretty girl,’ he winks laughing, ‘you like me, just admit it.’ You shake your head, going deeper into the lake together. He stops moving to hold you tighter, grabbing your chin and gently kissed you. You gasped at the moment, enjoying it as you and him actually like each other but just denying. Since you met the treasure Hunter there was so many adventures only you could ever imagine going on with him, from searching for maps and secrets, running away for ages to collecting treasures and jewels. You couldn’t ask for any better adventures! You kissing him back made you feel him smirking against your lips, gasping once again as he grips your but to slide his tongue into yours. ‘So will you be my Girlfriend, now Y/N?’ He asks sincerely, pulling away to talk. ‘Yes, Baby boy,’ smiling as you bring him back in for another kiss.

Cold Winter Aesthetic 

Winter wonder land was coming up in the place of love, Paris. Nate found a love note a few weeks ago, keeping it safe with him at all time. He smiled at the thought of a pretty girl actually liking him for him, not just for the gold and treasures he collected. He had a suspicion that it was the girl, that he really liked at a snow boarding event he went to last month. Figuring out that, she was the girl he lasted talk to, who smiled and is genuine with him. Plus, when he left he had a note in his pocket, all the clue do add up he thought. Walking in Paris seeing so many couples at winter wonderland, he might be able to find you even-though, the chances are pretty slim. He turns around to see the Eiffel Tower, stopping dead in his tracks he sees you alone in the snow. He runs to you, you look up smiling at him. ‘Hey,’ you say, smiling at his appearance. ‘Hey,’ breathing slowly, ‘do you want to go to winter wonderland with me as a date?’ Your eyes widen in disbelief, you was nervous that he would reject your offering of a note. ‘How did you know I gave you that note?’ You questioned, curiously. ‘I am a treasure Hunter, Darling,’ he cheekily bites his lips, winking at you. ‘Yes, of course, Nate.’ You kiss his lips, him taken back by surprised as he deepens the kiss ‘I’m glad we found each other, Y/N,’ he whispers in between kisses, ‘me too,’ you smile. Walking hand in hand through the snow to winter wonderland. After the event, you and Nate go into a cafe to drink hot chocolate together. Just the perfect first date!

1. Last game you finished?

Uncharted 4, baby! Loved it! (Nathan Drake has my heart)

2. Game(s) you’re currently playing?

For a while there, I was keeping on the Uncharted train and working through Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. However, I recently booted up Resident Evil: Village for the first time and have switched my focus over to that. (Chris Redfield also has my heart)

3. 1-3 games you’ve played in the past 12 months that you really enjoyed?

Hmm, let’s see...in no particular order...

1. Bioshock Infinite, for sure. I’ve literally have beaten the game 5 times now, with my most recent completed run being on the hardest difficulty, “1999 Mode” (complete with the tough ‘Scavenger Hunt’ Achievement’ #humblebrag), and I STILL enjoyed the heck out of it. (Booker DeWitt also, also has my heart, and Elizabeth is precious and needs to be protected at all costs)

2. Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m far from completing this game, but I love the world so much. It fun to just run around and explore and visit the towns, and such. AND THE DETAILS. THE AMOUNT OF DETAILS IS INSANE. (Arthur Morgan also, also, also has my heart)

3. Alan Wake/AW’s American Nightmare. THIS. GAME. THIS GAME LITERALLY CHANGED MY LIFE. No joke. It’s not just a game, it’s an experience. Gosh, I cannot praise it enough. The writing is just... *chef’s kiss* (Alan Wake himself may or may not also, also, also, also have my heart)

10. A console and/or handheld you’ve never played but would like to try?

There are some more modern consoles that I’ve yet to try, but since they play basically the same as some previous generation ones, I think I’m going to cheat with this question a bit and not necessarily highlight a console, but an arcade cabinet instead. There’s this one called “Carnevil”, which is basically an on-rail shooter type of game, but it takes place in a haunted, resurrected, and obviously evil carnival, run by a mad professor. (That aesthetic is just my jam, really.) It sadly has never been officially ported to any consoles, so chances of trying it are very low, but if I ever get the opportunity, I’d be one happy gal!

18. A game location you really like

Because I won’t shut up about Bioshock, I’m going to highlight the “Battleship Bay” section from Bioshock Infinite. It’s absolutely GORGEOUS and was one of the things that attracted me to the game in the first place. Seriously, that soft color palette is EVERYTHING.

28. Pick a series you like. What was the first game you played for it? Was it a good starting point? Would it still be a good starting point now?

Since I spoke about Bioshock in my last ask response, let me bring up an older series that was a HUGE staple of my late childhood/early teens: Sly Cooper (or Sly Raccoon, if you’re outside of the U.S.), I started with the first one when I was only 10, and was totally hooked! While most claim the 2nd game, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, is the best in the series, I believe playing the first one was the best starting point, and still think it is, even now. Sure, the other games may be a tad easier, and the first one may not be the most polished, it still has its charm, and sets up Sly’s motives and family history from the get go. (I still haven’t played the 4th one yet, but if I ever get my hands on a PS4 or PS5, you know I’ll give it a try!) Overall, I highly recommend this series!

30. Game you think you’ll finish next?

Given that they’re both what I’m currently focusing on, it’ll likely either be Resident Evil: Village or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. I'm enjoying both so far!
