I agree! I always get very excited when a piece of media has a bug in it that isn't one of the five or six species that get referenced and represented over and over and over- More bees that aren't honey bees! More wasps that aren't eusocial vespids! More beetles that aren't ladybugs or stags! Etc etc etc.

I understand the fact that only a select number of species or families will be truly culturally iconic among hundreds of thousands of species but only representing a select few species is what leads to things like the Save The Bees campaign getting boiled down to the point people go and introduce honey bees to even more places they have no business being in over native bee populations.
