The world has not yet adjusted to the flood of robots merging with day-to-day society.

At least, not in the form they had taken prior. To say that there was some backlash was undercutting it; using arguments of humanity vs machine to its core, despite the clarity that those walking alongside them weren't just AI made to mimic human traits and personality, but sentient beings that develop their own. There's a difference between a chatbot app and your next-door neighbor who just so happens to be made out of metal.

Still, there is progress as much as there are incidents. A recent ruling states that all robots don't need to look human in order to receive the same amount of respect and rights (which is fantastic for all of Fazbear's line up of robots, considering they were animals in nature and all, in all franchises and pizza plexes across the country) but there were...incidents too, some of them making the news.

So when you're out doing some quick shopping for groceries one day and a stranger with a taut face and a sour attitude starts heckling Sun, and that heckling turns to harassment, and thus turns into him reaching for the back of the animatronic's head and pulling at the vulnerable wires there, you clock him.

Hard, actually. Your knuckles hurt like a bitch, but you don't have time to shake the feeling out from your hand because the guy sends one right back and oh, there you go, tumbling in the isle and knocking baking soda and sugar and other cake ingredients off the shelf as the two of you yell profanities and arguments while Sun has a metaphorical loading symbol over his head while he processes the last five seconds.

Now you're both banned from that store. The other guy is too, thankfully. Still sucks though. You didn't get to check out the ingredients for the cake.

"You're a real mess." Sun scolds you, dipping the rag back into the warm water, and bringing it back up to your face. He dabs at the dried blood under your eye, careful not to rub too harshly so as to not irritate the darkening skin beneath it. "Honestly. That could have gone so much worse-"

"Like pulling wires out of your head?" You interrupt. You're not too keen about the bathroom being turned into a lecture hall, and the lid of the toilet seat being your 'time-out' spot as he tends to you. "Yeah, sure. I'll just let the stranger rip out what is essentially your brain cords out of your flat skull and be fine with it."

Sun shoots you a look. The default smile is strained.

"What?" You hiss in the silent pause, and not because of the sting of your eye. "All I'm saying is that this-" A point to your face, "-is preferable than the other outcome."

"Our wires are welded in with steel, so I highly doubt a human could rip them out without some sort of power tool." Sun tuts. "You remember Parts n Service."

He had a point. The machine in Parts n Service did weld his arm back into place at the time, and all the other repairs since then didn't go without some sort of heat tool to make sure everything was properly molded in place. Still, you frown. "It's still fucked up that he did that, though."

"Language."

"We didn't even get the cake mix." A light dab on the eye, you bite your tongue as Sun clears the last of the dried blood from the area. "Shouldn't have banned us. Now we have to go across town to get groceries."

Sun pulls back the rag, stained pink and light brown with old blood, dropping it in the sink to be washed later. "You should have thought about that before getting into a fight."

"I was only trying to help!" You defend, continuing as Sun pulls out the disinfectant in a rather knowing manner. The cut underneath your eye from the guy's ring was about to sting like hell. "And it's not like I was the one who started it!"

He pours a dab of alcohol onto a cotton ball retrieved from the first aid kit, a small puff of white in between large silocone fingers, it's almost comical how he pinches it into place before crouching back down, the cotton ball hovering over your face. "Hush. This is going to sting."

Your mouth thins at the underlying tone of Moon's voice in his scolding, leaning away from the offending ball. "You're such a hypocrite."

A hand comes underneath your chin to hold you in place, thumb pressed into your jawline. "Stop whining."

"How would you feel, huh?" You wrinkle your nose as the disinfectant ball comes closer. "What would you do if someone attacked me like that?"

The cotton ball presses against the cut and you flinch, hard enough that your shoulders hike up and your neck tenses. It stings like hell, searing for a moment before dulling to an aching throb, a hiss in the back of your dry throat.

The Daycare Attendant's thumb keeps in place for a second, then pulls it away, expression unreadable. "The same thing we did the last time someone tried."

You grit your teeth, pressing your lips into a thin line as the stinging starts to fade.

"Though," He continues, pulling the cotton ball away and tossing it into the trash. "While your help is appreciated, It would be very much appreciated if we were to avoid something like that in the future!" He waves his hands, the bright smile returning, and Sun's fingers go behind your ear, pulling back out a colorful bandage. "I think it goes without saying that it makes me very sad to see you all hurt. Not fun at all!"

You blow hot air out of your nose in a huff as he applies the sticky bandage. "Hypocrite."

"There you are! Right as rain, dandy and peachy." Sun pulls back to observe his handiwork, and there's a slight pause. "Well, not quite. You've still got a bit of a shiner. I don't think I have a medicine for that one."

"It makes me look cool." You jest. "I look badass."

The animatronic sighs, heavy and loaded for a robot with no lungs, though his exasperation is evident in his voicebox. "Pulling my wires, our wires, please, you're constantly on them-" He's mumbling, quickly. Still talking even as he cradles your head gently by your jawline, and presses his faceplate to the skin above the black eye. "Afraid that's all I can give."

You wrinkle your nose, smiling. "I think a cake would be great too."

"Thanks to someone-" He starts, rising from a crouched position and taking your hand to help you stand. "It looks like we'll be ordering one from the bakery instead."

I tried getting into elona a while back after you talked about it and remember being confused about the different versions; omake, elona+, and the Mobil version seemed really different and gatcha heavy.

so with elona, let's get one thing out of the way that's hard to glean from community discussion (because most players don't really talk about how to get into it): you shouldn't be playing vanilla elona in [current year] unless you specifically want to do it to get a glimpse into what it used to be like

your assessment of the mobile version is correct! it's fucking awful and, in spite of what a lot of people seem to believe, has no financial connection at all to the original creator. that game makes a lot of money and noa doesn't see any of it, to my knowledge

the mobile version is full of microtransactions and reworks several systems from the base game to encourage spending (including adding a companion and weapon gacha, timegating shop refreshes, turning sleeping bonuses into a daily reward, and making god battling an arena minigame), so its streamlining of gameplay is entirely in service of getting you to spend money on what's supposed to be a free game

so that leaves deciding between OO and Plus, and since you're starting out, Plus is the best choice.

Plus is not only the most popular of the two, but also has a not-insignificant amount of english language learning resources available. beyond that, its lack of build diversity is actually a boon because the game makes it pretty hard to well and truly ruin a character (you'll pretty naturally gravitate towards A Good Build)

OO is really good, but it's very bad at teaching you to play elona and a lot of its more opaque mechanics kind of require a working knowledge of how to play the game to reverse engineer them, in lieu of having seen the development process that informed them

California’s Yurok Tribe, which had 90% of its territory taken from it during the gold rush of the mid-1800s, will be getting a slice of its land back to serve as a new gateway to Redwood national and state parks visited by 1 million people a year.

The Yurok will be the first Native people to manage tribal land with the National Park Service under a historic memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday by the tribe, Redwood national and state parks and the non-profit Save the Redwoods League.

The agreement “starts the process of changing the narrative about how, by whom and for whom we steward natural lands”, Sam Hodder, president and CEO of Save the Redwoods League, said in a statement.

The return of the 125 acres (50 hectares) of land – named ’O Rew in the Yurok language – more than a century after it was stolen from California’s largest tribe is proof of the “sheer will and perseverance of the Yurok people”, said Rosie Clayburn, the tribe’s cultural resources director. “We kind of don’t give up.”

For the tribe, redwoods are considered living beings and traditionally only fallen trees have been used to build their homes and canoes.

“As the original stewards of this land, we look forward to working together with the Redwood national and state parks to manage it,” Clayburn said. “This is work that we’ve always done, and continued to fight for, but I feel like the rest of world is catching up right now and starting to see that Native people know how to manage this land the best.”

The property is at the heart of the tribe’s ancestral land and was taken in the 1800s to exploit its old-growth redwoods and other natural resources, the tribe said. Save the Redwoods League bought the property in 2013 and began working with the tribe and others to restore it.

Much of the property was paved over by a lumber operation that worked there for 50 years and also buried Prairie Creek, where salmon would swim upstream from the Pacific to spawn.

Plans for ’O Rew include a traditional Yurok village of redwood plank houses and a sweat house. There also will be a new visitor and cultural center displaying scores of sacred artefacts from deerskins to baskets that have been returned to the tribe from university and museum collections, Clayburn said.

It will add more than a mile (1.6km) of new trails, including a new segment of the California Coastal Trail, with interpretive exhibits. The trails will connect to many of the existing trails inside the parks, including to popular old-growth redwood groves.

The tribe had already been restoring salmon habitat for three years on the property, building a meandering stream channel, two connected ponds and about 20 acres (8 hectares) of floodplain while dismantling a defunct mill site. Crews also planted more than 50,000 native plants, including grass-like slough sedge, black cottonwood and coast redwood trees.

Salmon were once abundant in rivers and streams running through these redwood forests, But dams, logging, development and drought – due in part to the climate crisis – have destroyed the waterways and threatened many of these species. Last year, recreational and commercial king salmon fishing seasons were closed along much of the west coast due to near-record low numbers of the iconic fish returning to their spawning grounds.

The tribe will take ownership in 2026 of the land near the tiny northern California community of Orick in Humboldt county after restoration of a local tributary, Prairie Creek, is complete under the deal.

A growing Land Back movement has been returning Indigenous homelands to the descendants of those who lived there for millennia before European settlers arrived. That has seen Native American tribes taking a greater role in restoring rivers and lands to how they were before they were expropriated.

Last week, a 2.2-acre (0.9-hectare) parking lot was returned to the Ohlone people where they established the first human settlement beside San Francisco Bay 5,700 years ago. In 2022, more than 500 acres (200 hectares) of redwood forest on the Lost Coast were returned the InterTribal Sinkyone Wilderness Council, a group of 10 tribes.

The ’O Rew property represents just a tiny fraction of the more than 500,000 acres of the ancestral land of the Yurok, whose reservation straddles the lower 44 miles (70km) of the Klamath River. The Yurok tribe is also helping lead efforts in the largest dam removal project in US history along the California-Oregon border to restore the Klamath and boost the salmon population.

The Redwoods national park superintendent, Steve Mietz, praised the restoration of the area and its return to the tribe, saying it is “healing the land while healing the relationships among all the people who inhabit this magnificent forest”.

When it comes to relationships, Dave York is a hands-on man.

You had come to appreciate that Dave liked to keep busy. Whether it be work or matters of love, he was not one to sit idle. Dave’s always been well aware that you’re a competent, independent woman. He knows you’re more than capable of facing challenges without him. But a chance to ease some of your burdens? Lighten your workload? Free up more time for your elaborate self-care rituals? Dave would do whatever he could to ensure you were comfortable.

Before Dave, you had never fully appreciated acts of service as a love language. Now, though, you understand just how fulfilled one can feel through having their partner care for them in such a subtle, yet intimate way. It was as though Dave saw you, so deeply, without any of the facades that new lovers present to each other. Despite having only been dating for a few months, he settled into your life like he’d known it all along.

Being with you felt natural; like muscle memory. When it came to taking care of you, he knew just what to do. It was as though he’d been waiting all his life to serve you. High-school girlfriends, short-lived situationships, his marriage to Carol - they were all lessons that shaped Dave into the man you adore.

It didn’t take you long to feel comfortable in Dave’s presence, so much so, that you gave him a key to your place after only a month together.

After a long and trying day at work, your body was almost ready to give out as you dragged your feet up the driveway. Dave was planning to come over that evening, and as he usually worked from home these days, it was customary for Dave to let himself in before you arrived. You had texted him to let him know you’d be home later, and the absence of enthusiasm in your text tone led your lover to believe that today had been rough. Dave York wasn’t the kind of man to write you love poems or shower you with regular words of affirmation - you had come to understand quite early on in your relationship that he was a man of action. So, of course, it never occurred to you that whilst you trudged home, Dave was wracking his brain for ways to comfort you and help ease the aches of the day.

Around twenty minutes later, your heels crossed the threshold and followed the alluring trail of lavender, sweet orange and clary sage to the bathroom where a bubble bath awaited you - accompanied by a glass of your favourite pinot noir and the glow of a candle, which looked suspiciously like the one you’d added to your Anthropologie basket whilst browsing online the week before. As you succumbed to the water’s gentle embrace, you began to develop a newfound appreciation for acts of service.

Caring for you, no, serving you, had become an instinct for Dave. He wanted to ensure you were supported in every aspect of your life. Whilst his career differed greatly from yours, he was aware that you had an upcoming deadline for a project proposal due, and he was determined to help lighten your workload. He gave you some much-needed space as you threw yourself into the process - planning and writing furiously for an entire week whilst he waited on the sidelines. You came up for air every now and again, usually to respond to Dave’s texts, which typically consisted of: “Have you eaten?” or “Get some fresh air, sweetheart”.

After the first week, you were in a good enough position to take a step back from it all and you casually mentioned to Dave that you were planning to ask a colleague or one of your girlfriends to proofread your proposal.

You never expected to receive an email from your lover the very next day; an edited copy of your work attached. You opened the file to discover that all of your typos had been corrected, as well as encountering a few additional comments on the document, detailing Dave’s constructive recommendations on how to enhance the style and tone of your piece. The email itself was without a subject and didn’t contain much in the main body, but you understood that Dave’s actions spoke louder than his words.

The next day, you walked into the office feeling lighter. Your mind, body and soul felt secure in the promise of your lover’s growing devotion to you.

Having slightly overindulged in wine with the girls the night before, you had been running on little sleep and energy that day. In dire need of a pick-me-up, you had been fantasising about the prospect of coffee and a sweet treat all day long. It was entirely possible that you had forgotten how you shared this hangover-induced fantasy with Dave whilst on your lunch break, until you got into his car. You were soon greeted by a quick kiss across the car’s console and a curt “There’s coffee for you in the cup-holder”, before a Dunkin Donuts bag was dropped onto your lap as Dave put the car in drive.

More and more frequently, you were blessed with Dave York’s subtle yet thoughtful gestures. Even when it was his turn to have the girls for a few days, your presence still lingered on his subconscious. Dave had reluctantly given in to the girls’ pleas to go to the mall, and as he got them ready for their venture, he remembered that you needed to return a dress you bought recently - one you had conveniently left at his place. Dave swiftly retrieved your package from his bedroom and ushered the girls to the car.

The nature of Dave’s work meant that he was able to execute operations with immaculate speed, precision and efficiency. Despite finding himself in quite a contrasting environment, Dave was prepared to complete this shopping trip on the same principles as his usual assignments. Build-A-Bear, American Girl and GAP were swift in-and-out jobs, with a quick drop into Urban Outfitters to return your dress in a similar fashion. Later that day, as Dave settled down on the sofa with his girls to watch an all too idealistic Disney movie, you received an email confirming the return of your Urban package. Dave felt an unfamiliar, yet welcomed, tinge of warmth in his chest as he read your text, raising a slight smirk at your remark: “Thanks Mr. Courier. x”.

“You’ve got the girls on Thursday evenings, right?”, you asked Dave as you scrolled through the seemingly never-ending list of gym classes on your phone, waiting for something to take your fancy.

“Yeah baby. Why’d you ask?” was the response you received from your somewhat distracted lover, as he ran his hands up and down your calves which were currently draped across his lap whilst you both basked in the simple pleasure of each other’s presence.

You told Dave that you wanted to pick up a class during the week and that you thought it made sense for you to choose one that coincided with the nights Dave would have the girls over. Whilst you adored Alice and Molly, you were both in the early days of your relationship and therefore you were keen to give your lover some space, not quite sure of how you fit into their family dynamic just yet.

Excitedly, you let Dave know that “There’s a Pilates class on Thursdays. Oh, and it says here that the first session’s free.”

You were met with a curt murmur of “Let me handle it, baby” before you both settled down to watch the latest episode of your recent HBO obsession.

It was only 12 hours later when you received an email confirmation acknowledging your registration for Beginner’s Pilates, followed by a text from Mr. York himself, suggesting you wear ‘those purple yoga pants’ he was so fond of, the ones that hugged your curves just right, to your first session.

Friday could not come soon enough in your book. You’d been skipping all the way from the office to your car. Sure, it was the end of yet another working week, and god knows there’d be more of them to come, but this Friday was special. It was the start of your long-awaited vacation week. You had nine entire days to recharge your batteries, and you planned on making the most of your lack of responsibilities, considering how hard you’d been working this month.

You had been burning the candle at both ends for a while now, and you were looking forward to doing nothing for a whole week. Literally, nothing! Except, perhaps, those things that brought you joy, such as binge-watching Netflix for hours on end or eating ice cream straight out of the tub.

Yes, you had big plans for yourself. Not to mention, you were also eager to spend some quality time with your lover, anticipating that your newfound free time would offer ample opportunities for you to truly indulge in each other. These were the dreamy thoughts that swam around in your head as you turned on your engine and took down your hair, releasing it from its pinned-up prison.

Your eyes might’ve been on the road but your mind was driven wild with the endless possibilities of ways to spend your evening.

Apparently, fate had plans of its own. Plans to screw you, to be precise.

The ringing of your phone soon cut through your sense of inner peace, as you received a call from the guy who was due to fix your central heating. Turns out he could only make it around to your place tonight and he was already on his way over.

There you stood in the hall of your apartment. Downright furious at the prospect of having to delay your cute lil’ self-care evening a minute longer, you stewed in quiet frustration for a few minutes before dialing Dave’s number.

After picking up on the second ring, Dave was soon informed of your woes, and for the sake of your sanity, he let you vent for a while before telling you that he was on his way over.

Awkward smiles were traded as you exchanged small talk with the pleasant engineer, expressing that your boyfriend, who was much more knowledgeable on matters like these, would be over soon so you might as well wait for him before starting any repairs.

When the front door opened, you were overjoyed at Dave’s arrival. You eagerly took a step back and allowed him to swiftly take over interactions with the man, suddenly grateful for his ever-present need for control as it seemed to prove quite useful in this particular situation.

Several more words passed between the two men before Dave turned his attention to you.

“I've got this handled, baby. Why don’t you head upstairs? You had some self-care thing you wanted to do, right?”

You knew Dave York was often out of his depths when it came to discussing the things you liked. You even wondered whether he really understood the concept of ‘self-care’, having foregone such a thing during his intensive CIA days. However, your man was trying. He was trying to salvage your plans for the evening, trying to take some of that weight off your shoulder and make things a little easier for you. You recognised his intentions, and whilst you were still getting used to being taken care of in such a deeply personal way, you had come to appreciate how this man showed you love.

You were never one for extravagance. Never one who cared for elaborate gestures that gave couples something to boast about on social media and, you were coming to learn, neither was Dave.

You didn't need those lavish words of affection or performative displays of romance - they simply didn’t do it for you.

Honestly, you hadn’t really cared for acts of service much in the past. Yet as you held the lavender nail polish in your hands, you took a moment to reflect upon your relationship with the man currently in your kitchen. Feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, you plucked your glass of wine from the bedside table and loaded up an episode of Sex and the City. You were now perfectly relaxed, ready to begin your self-care rituals - but not before taking a moment to delight in the notion of acts of service.
