"Nazi Town, USA" is a 2024 feature in PBS's American Experience series. It looks into the surprising degree of influence which Nazis had in the United States in the 1930s. There were even Nazi summer camps for kids.

Those espousing Nazi-friendly views in the 1930s did not disappear when the US entered World War II and fascism became very unfashionable. Those half-hidden feelings hibernated and occasionally emerged from time to time to poison discourse and endanger democracy. There are obvious echos of that movement today.

Nikki McCann Ramirez at the Rolling Stone documented how MAGA influencers kept claiming the Super Bowl is "the Democrats’ Taylor Swift election interference psyop" and the Super Bowl is "totally scripted" to "elect Joe Biden WW3 will likely follow in a 2nd Biden term and millions will die."

...If that sounds like a cult leader feeling threatened by the outside world, well that's no coincidence. The Swift hatred resembles the argument that cults and other high-control groups make to their followers: cut off all contact with the outside world, abandon everything that gives you joy and pleasure, and dedicate your entire life to the cult's ideology. Trump and his henchmen sound like David Koresh or Warren Jeffs for a reason. The MAGA media system, wittingly or not, leans heavily on a favorite tactic of cult leaders: painting the outside world as a threat. Paranoia and alienation are a cult leader's best friends. After all, if the followers discover people outside the group are normal and happy, they might start questioning the cult leader and seeking ways to escape. So it's best to make them afraid to even look out of their own windows.

But to say medically vulnerable people must die so the rest of us may have brunch indoors does not beget such a reaction- never mind that all the above-named groups- Native people, trans people, Black people and women- are at a higher risk for Long COVID, and other poor outcomes from COVID." ... We are not going to be engaging in “policing,” because nobody is going to end up in jail, physically hurt, on probation, or with limited job prospects because of our community care. Simply write “masks required” on your event invites, distribute masks wherever possible (contact your local Mask Bloc!), and do your best to spread information while modeling good praxis by masking yourself. A left that purges its spaces of everyone who values community care, everyone who is willing to experience a minor inconvenience for the well-being of another, everyone who thinks it’s all of us or none of us, is a drastically weakened left. A left that mocks vulnerable groups and seeks to justify harm to them is not grounded in real justice and has only a superficial understanding of its own aims. Georgia could offer specialty vehicle license plates featuring the tagline “America First,” following passage in the state Senate of Senate Bill 507 on Thursday.

The bill passed on February 29, 2024 and if signed into law, would make "America First" license plates available to Georgia drivers.

"America First" is a white supremacist slogan, shouted by Nazis who formed the America First party in the early 1940s. These jackasses were literal Nazis who supported Hitler and wanted America to kill our Jews too in solidarity.

And now some Georgia Senators want "America First" on our vehicle license plates.

I just called Governor Brian Kemp's office at 404-656-1776, pressed 3 on the voicemail menu, and left a message with the nice lady who answered the phone. She took down my concern and assured me Kemp would get the message.

Calling is important. Emails and online forms don't mean as much as a phone call in 2024. If you live in Georgia I urge you to call and explain your concern: that you are a registered voter who lives in Georgia and Governor Kemp should veto Senate Bill 507 if/when it ever crosses his desk.
