Clown theme, has a big top tent skirt and roller blades for a cute vibe. it didn't quite work tho, esp since the director would be sitting down. i wasn't a fan of the hat at all too.

tried again, this time empathizing the legs cause i wanted the director to go for a "show skin" approach but that just doesn't work with star bodies cause it all looks like a costume. the hat also looked stupid -i really was fighting the idea of a top hat until i actually sat down and tried to do it and it simplified nicely.

siffrin's design was VERY easy i knew right away i wanted them to have the director's big sleeves as pants and to have star accents. i just needed to balance things a lil better and realized i could go for a wide brim hat

last one was my last try i was sooo close to giving up and accepting that i'd hate the deisgn lol. i was just. throwing things at the wall. thank GOD @octonerd drew this design (CW link has drawn blood) and that clicked for me! so i asked and got to quick work to get the final design we have now

i wanted to add more "elegant" to the design but i didn't want to trade the fanatstical elements of the og design. i think my main issue i was scared to try drawing things i'm not the most familar drawing (puffy sleeves + top hat) so things turned out nicely in the end and i learned my lesson!

As for drawing three pieces a day, phew, it definitely took me time to build up that speed! At first, I was way slower like my energy level is very low, but with consistently getting my mind into the work mode, I found ways to streamline my process. Over time, I got better at simplifying certain details, trusting my instincts, and letting go of perfectionism when it wasn’t needed. Some days, I can knock out art fast, and other days, I take my time like if i have a commission so dont stress about speed! It naturally improves as you keep drawing fr. ✨

But I totally get you on anatomy being a challenge! It’s honestly one of those never-ending learning curves for me, and I still study and refine my approach even tho my proportions are wayyy off and make no sense. The best trick I’ve found is focusing on flow rather than stiff details, if it feels good to me then I will go ahead with it, I know ill never be 100% all the time but I do fin that gesture drawing helps a ton 💖

As for time spent drawing daily, ehh it varies, but I’d say anywhere from several hours to the whole day depending on what I’m working on. Some pieces come together quickly like within an hour (When im livestreaming my work on youtube), while others take longer. I’m always juggling that balance really

And yes, at this point, I do consider myself a full-time artist! It’s a mix of art commissions, social media content things, and other projects like the Tato TTRPG and rpg maker game that keep me going. It’s a lot of work, but I love it, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything! That said, it’s totally okay to take things at your own pace whether you’re full-time or just making art for fun, what matters most is that you enjoy the process. its a thing im still learning 💕

So I found out about you after doing some research on I story in writing that is heavily based on religion. It’s just a document right now, but I would love to make it into to webcomic except my drawing skill arnt really that good. The biggest thing about comics is that you need to get comfortable with drawing things you’re not very good at drawing. Generally, these are the basic classic fundamentals you’ll need to study in a more academic sense, meaning you must learn a bit of construction/formal technique that may change your current approach drawing as an action— it’s better not to draw in pure construction lines when studying these:

Anatomy

HAND anatomy

Perspective (1 point perspective is all you really need 80% of the time, but it’s good to know 2 point and beyond as well)

Color theory isn’t NEEDED per se, but it’s a personal pet peeve of mine when I see people haven’t taken time to study it

Unfortunately I don’t have any good tutorials to link because I had a formal education— I’m sure you can find some decent ones on YouTube tho! Gnomon tends to be decent for figure drawing, but you can also look for tutorials made specifically for animation if you have a more simplified style.

Beyond this, it’s really important to get comfortable moving forward from things you’ve drawn “badly.” If I’m struggling too much, especially with an unimportant panel, I usually give myself a time limit of around fifteen minutes to fiddle with it before moving on.

Genuinely tho, the best way to get good at making comics is just to make them. It’s really the only way to practice at it, so I would just reframe art as a “genuine documentation of your skill at a certain time” rather than something that is supposed to be perfect. My art at the beginning of GH is definitely less refined than what I put out now, but it’s a genuine reflection of where I was in my artistic journey at that time, and it’s my opinion that anything genuine you bring to the world is always good.

Really, just working on comics consistently will improve your skill exponentially because it’s all applied practice. That being said: Do NOT start redrawing the beginning of your comic once your skill has improved. That is the devil speaking. You’ll never get to the meat of your story if you keep starting again at the beginning! It will be there to redo once you’re done if you so choose.

Anyway—- I’m wishing you the best with your endeavors! Comics are a lot of work, but so worth the effort!

ichiban as a character? perfect, i love him very much. ichiban as a protagonist? great, effervescent, if you will. ichiban taking kiryus place as the protagonist on the next instalment in the franchise...?

ive seen a lot of people bring this up and i feel like it applies to this as well, how playing all of these games one after another instead of having had years in between instalments make it so you feel the full force of the changes in how the story carries itself and how the games themselves evolved alongside their player base, and that weights been kind of crushing me the whole time ive been playing LaD

MIND YOU its not that i dont like the game, the open world and new mini games have been pretty fun (even tho the citys so goddamn big and theres only like 3 taxis in ONE single district for some reason?) and the main story is pretty interesting but i kind of really wish we'd had more time with ichiban pre-imprisonment? i understand why that wasnt the case and the cutscenes did a good job at setting his motivations and character up but still

him and kiryu are such drastically different people and the stories and characters around them reflect that so clearly that it really shouldnt be THIS difficult to get over how these are New Games in a New Saga and get used to that fact? the main plot is as melodramatic as in all the other games and the stakes are high as well (im not even that deep into the game yet so im assuming itll just keep going up) and even tho ichibans friendships were endearing at the start of the game the more i keep playing the more (FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM) "marvel humor" it feels? from adachi talking smack about the seiryu clan chairman to his FACE to how they keep making saeko mention that she finds joongi han hot and the way nanba was acting as if he was in a different "genre" than ichiban through that whole thing and it made ichiban look so childish im

i am rambling LISTEN i do like the game and i love the characters but its just so goddamn different from all the others so far and i dont even really know how to begin to explain whats been bothering me???? if i try to simplify my thoughts i think its ultimately the fact that ichiban isnt alone whats been throwing me off. kiryu had friends and colleagues but they were passing instalments in his life, there to lend a hand or have a drink with before continuing with the story. ichiban on the other hand is the COMPLETE opposite of that. aside from his party literally being with him 24/7 it kind of feels like theyre going for the "found family" trope but it feels so forced...?

after the geomijul gets burned down saeko mentions something about nanba not staying with them anymore and thats when the whole thing started feeling kind of "off" to me i think. saeko is apparently in her 30s, nanba's 41, ichiban 42, adachis almost 60 and the only reason theyre together right now is because of business basically but the way the game portrays their friendship half the time it feels like theyre in a slice of life anime and high school graduation is right around the corner or something. id mentioned in another post how i liked how "domestic" the relationships felt but im kind of taking that back honestly. i keep thinking of the cut scene in y0 where nishiki takes kiryu shopping and laughs at his choice in suits, and every little interaction in that game that made it so abundantly clear that these guys are best friends, without stripping either of them of their individuality and its like. LaD WISHES its relationships felt like that.

kind of a tangent but not really i can appreciate how they were going for an "underdog" group dynamic with them but theres a reason there was only one shinada in yakuza 5. (and i know im not that far into the game yet but i feel like the vibes and how they act arent really gonna change that much or if they do itll be inconsequential to what im talking about i think) like, adachi specifically is so out of his depth in almost every scene hes in, comparing him to date feels so off cuz its like night and day man and its not like date was this perfect character and police officer either but at least he wasnt flabbergasted when criminal organizations... committed crimes? he has a lot of textbook knowledge of the criminal underworld but the way he interacts with people from there it feels like he never stepped foot outside of the police station

idk man i dont remember the snarky comebacks and quips being this forced down our throats in any of the other games either, not even majima was this chatty. it feels like the edge was sanded down or something and YES i get thats kind of the main point since ichiban isnt kiryu and the way they live and the games carry themselves reflect that but still, even with them being more lax in showing gore and corpses in these past phew games its felt like theyve become less "mature" in a lot of aspects HHHHHHHHHHHHH

I’m actually not that good at anatomy myself and if I have to draw parts of naked body I surround myself with references 🥴 in any other case I just use blocks to make a rough sketch which I then dress up like a doll, so it’s not so much about anatomy as it is about proportions and shapes (which I suggest to learn first thing bc that’s what we started with at art school :p)

I really don’t think you need to know the name and exact form of every bone from the bottom to the top to draw people well enough, IMO all you need as a core except for named above are the very general things like the way leg bones connect with pelvic bones, or the rib cage shape and how it can differ, or, for example, those anchor points where the bones are practically not hidden by anything, like the collarbones or upper anterior iliac spine and etc etc. what I’m trying to say is you don’t have to memorise skeleton and all the muscles in all details, especially in the beginning 🤓

in terms or advices I probably won’t say anything new: when I get an annual urge to learn anatomy more or need a reference I go through Anatomy for Sculptores since everything is very clearly shown there or straight to youtube and watch channels like Proko. he actually has a very useful practice in homework to find muscles or bones on a photo and draw it on top/separately. I myself rarely do it and I’m ashamed bc when I actually did it was so helpful for understanding 😭

I also have a few pinterest boards for anatomy and love to look at pics like these, gives me a better understanding of volumes and the way shading should go

I tried to read Bammes too but it has A LOT of (not so necessary on practice IMO) info (and a lot of typos in russian version) which is too much for my one and only braincell and I can’t remember a single thing for a dear life of mine from there 😭😭😭 schemes are good tho 🤓

heard good things about Figure drawing, Design and Invention by Michael Hampton and Morpho series (especially Simplified Forms) by Michel Lauricella but haven’t gotten my hands on them yet

So there have been a lot of times in my life (anywhere from a few days to months at a time) where I've felt too tired and unenergized to do anything. We could discuss this with respect to my depression but that's not what this post is about.

I tend to ramble, so the tl'dr is this: doing nothing often makes you more tired. The more you do in a day*, the more you are telling your body "hey we need energy to do this" and the more your body responds by providing that energy.

(*obviously up to a point, this whole post is meant only in relation to typical day-to-day life and YMMV with how much activity is a good amount for you – but I promise you it's not "no activity")

My rambling is under the cut tho for people who want to read more.

On some level it makes me mad that it works this way, but in my experience doing nothing generally makes me more tired, or at least keeps me in the cycle of apathy and inactivity. I might think of it as "resting" to have a day where I sleep in and loaf around and play video games the whole time, but at the end of the day I feel just as lethargic and unmotivated as I did before because this isn't resting, it's rotting.

What actually helps me is doing stuff. I tend to have more energy when I've done different things throughout the day, moved around, had different kinds of inputs and outputs. If I'm exhausted when I wake up and I spend the day doing nothing, I'll stay that way. But by and large, if I wake up exhausted and, for instance, drag myself thru the process of making a slightly more complicated breakfast (I'm talking just like an omelet or scrambled eggs vs crackers and cream cheese level of effort), and I maybe tackle some small chores, and do a bit of light stretching, and do a crossword puzzle or a craft, and play video games, and spend some time just chilling, and I mix these activities up so I'm not doing the same thing for hours and hours at a time then I feel way better by the end of the day.

Psychologically, we know that lack of stimulation is bad for your brain – it slows everything down, makes you feel depressed, etc. – and an adequate level of stimulation is necessary to feel good and energized and happy. (I mean good stimulation, not scrolling instagram all day type stimulation, but that's another post by itself).

My best guess as to what's happening physiologically is that your body adjusts how much energy it makes based on how much demand there is. We all know that you eat food and your body uses it for energy, but here's what's happening at the cellular level (highly simplified, the details are completely irrelevant here): your body breaks the food down into different molecules of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, etc., and then uses those molecules to make a different molecule called ATP. This molecule is vitally important to how your body functions because it's what makes so many different cellular processes work, including things like muscle contractions and nerve impulses. You can probably see how not having enough of that molecule going around can really slow you down and make you feel fatigued and foggy-headed.

Generally, biological organisms don't like wasting energy for no reason, and it takes energy to make energy. When your body "makes" energy, it's making the energy stored in different molecules into a form that is usable by your body. If there's a low demand for energy, your body won't waste the energy that it already has making more, since it's not being used. The stored energy can stay in storage. When you get more active tho, that activity signals to your body that there IS a need for energy, so it gets to work making more of that stored energy available, and then you're off to the races.

Huge caveat that I've not done additional research for this post, this is based on my education and personal knowledge, I'm not a doctor and this shouldn't be taken as medical advice, etc.

The royal family ! Zelda, Edmund, and Amber. With Zelda I wanted to take inspiration from the magic armor I if course, along with some inspo from king’s clothes. Specifically the crown. And skeik’s design is the same from the concept art, just a little simplified cuz holy frick there does not need to be THAT many details on a character GOSH (tho by tp standards Sheik is pretty simple). I also kept the brown hair cuz I don’t like Zelda changing her whole hair color and skin color to disguise as sheik. Idk I get that it’s magic but I’m not a fan of it so her brown hair stays.

And then since Edmund is from Labrynna I took some inspo from Ralph and Ambi. His hair isn’t like, red but it’s a little ginger cuz tp has some more muted natural hair characters, and I gave him long eyelashes cuz Ralph has long eyelashes, and I like the idea of him being a very beautiful man. (Tho he looks kinda generic in my style so I need to do something with his face and eyes. I like the mustache tho)

And of course Amber’s dress is more inspired by oot kid Zelda’s dress. Just a lil different. Also I need to do better with her face and eye shape cuz oh my gosh the way I draw kids is very same face syndrome type lol

Trafalgar D. Water Law (Once Piece)

Law is a genocide survivor who saw his parents' dead bodies along with experiencing a whole bunch of other messed up stuff (his sister burning to death, the people of his country being shot for being poisoned by their own government, being terminally ill, escaping the genocide by hiding under a pile of dead bodies, etc etc). After all this shit, he eventually got forcibly adopted by this one guy and dragged around the world looking for a cure for his illness. Right when Law started to trust and love his new caretaker, he is also brutally murdered in front of him. Law's life goal for the next decade is to get revenge on the person who killed his adoptive father. Vote for him bc he needs a goddamn win for once in his life. He is the people's princess and the narrative's favorite punching bag. Also, his depressed, PTSD-ridden autistic swag and scoliosis realness have captivated me body and soul

His biological parents were killed (before his eyes, by the governement) when he was 10(?). He then joined a bunch of pirates, knowing he wouldn't have much time (and will) left to live anyway. There he was sort of adopted by the Big Bad Pirate's brother, who managed to save his life, only for said brother to be killed (more or less before Law's eyes, by the Big Bad Pirate), when he was 13. You could say he was orphaned twice.

He’s literally got the double orphan special (Parents died and then the guy who took him in after them died too) that’s a 50% increase in orphannedness above your standard orphan. He’s also cool as fuck.

Law's parents were already on death row along with him and his younger sister due to a disease that shortens the life span of a person. The disease can only be passed down genetically and has afflicted everyone in the town that he has grown up in. Due to the sudden outbreak and unknown nature of the disease to the rest of the world panicked and the government closed off his city, killing everyone there. That is how his first set of parents died when he was 10, I think. Still then Law would later join a pirate crew where he would eventually be taken away 2-3 years later by Corazon, marine working undercover as a pirate in order to take down this brother, who is the captain of crew Law joined. Corazon took him in order to cure Law's disease which he still had and to get him away from Doflamingo, his brother. Over the course of 6 months the two became close with Corazon essentially becoming a father figure to Law. I am simplify this but at some point of Doflamingo catches on to Corazon being a double agent and finds him. Doflamingo then proceeds to find Corazon and shoot him in front of a chest that Law was hiding in.

Law has faced many hardships since he was a child, but used his experiences to become an extremely powerful doctor. His pirate crew theme and his Devil Fruit ability are all owed to his adoptive father. Law acts really gruff and serious most of the time, initially seeming like a cool, calculating character and feared swordsman… but one second around the Straw Hats and you quickly see just how silly he really is. He hates bread. He collects coins. He is obsessed with ninjas and superhero comic books. In one arc he just fucked around with his powers and INVENTED harpies and centaurs. Oh, and his First Mate is a polar bear. What could be better than that?

The government ordered to kill everyone in Law's country due to everyone getting "fantasy lead poisoning" disease, which was wrongfully thought to be contagious stroked. Law's family was living at the hospital when they got attacked, his parents (who were doctors) got killed and the hospital got set on fire with his little sister inside. He managed to fled the country hiding in a pile of corpses and ended up joining a pirate crew lead by Doflamingo. Law knew he had the disease and it was going to kill him in three years. Doflamingo's brother, Rosinante took Law hospital to hospital to find a cure but they always rejected him thinking the disease was contagious. Then they learned that someone had offered Doflamingo a devil fruit that could grant him immortality. The fruit could also cure Law so Rosinante stole it and made Law eat it. He then made sure Law could escape Doflamingo and got killed by his brother.

dude spent his childhood getting thrown out of windows, while dying from a deadly disease (that was eventually cured) but while he was still showing symptoms of the disease no one would go near him out of fear and disgust, save for his father figure.

nothing can ever go right for this man. its fucking hilarious in the series and makes for some wonderful angst content. i want everyone who has not watched or read One Piece to know that, for half of his 'main' arc, he's carried around like a potato sack by MULTIPLE people. he is a damsel in despair. he didn't even need to be carried, he honestly could've walked, but he had to save that energy so he could take the like 17 lead bullets out of him. he's always getting shot or thrown out a window and he's severely injured more often than not. he's also a doctor/surgeon, one that should be able to cure incurable diseases, yet his pathetic loserboy ass is too busy being emo to worry about the several gunshot wounds and internal bleeding. god help this man but also don't because honestly it's really fucking funny

Ok, FIRST, when he was a tiny frog-disecting little kid, him and his family and island contacted a disease equivalent to cancer BUT his fam didn't die from that. No, no, his parents got gunned down by the military and his little sis was burned alive with the rest of his house, so, yeah, very traumatic, horrific in a way that makes you very angry at yourself and life and want to oh I don't know, kill everyone and everything possible until the day you die, which won't be long because you have cancer after all. Later, after joining a mafia/cult/gang, Law meets Corazon who after like 2 years kidnaps him to try and get him healed and so they spend the next 6 months bonding, WEEEEEE!! Wait, no, NOT weeee because Cora who is now his father-figure DIES having protected and saved him, and thus bruv becomes orphaned not once, not thrice, but TWO very traumatic times! If this isn't an orphan, idk what is……

Adrien Agreste (Miraculous Ladybug)

[Putting on a creepy white mask as I prepare to unleash the most insane lore ever written] Once upon a time…

Okay so not only is Adrien an orphan, but he's an orphan who unintentionally and unknowingly was partially responsible for their own orphaning. Adrien was created via the Peacock Miraculous, since his mom was infertile. But since the Peacock Miraculous was broken at the time, using it caused her to slowly become sick, until she "died" (mostly. Probably. She might have been on life support), just afew months before the show began. Later on, Ladybug had a plan to take down the Big Bad, Monarch (who, unbeknownst to the heroes, is actually Adrien's father), via putting him in a position where Chat Noir (Adrien's superhero alter ego) could threaten him with his Cataclysm, a superpower that destroys everything it touches. Monarch willingly took the Cataclysm, actually forcing Chat's hand onto himself, which infected him with that Cataclysm, meaning that he was slowly dying throughout the rest of the season. When the season 5 finale happened and Gabriel sacrificed his life to heal his assistant, and the closest person Adrien had had to an actual parent since Emilie died, he only had a few hours left to live anyway. Adrien is still unaware of how his parents died, he has no clue that either death involved him at all.

BIG MIRACULOUS LADYBUG SEASON 5 SPOILERS AHEAD Sooo first his mom went into a magical coma as the result of him being born through magical means and was considered dead/missing by everyone. They had a funeral for her and everything. Adrien dealt with it pretty well, but his father did not and decided to become a supervillain to get his wish, recreate the world and bring his wife back. Which he almost does! He ends up trading his life for (I assume) the life of his secretary/former crime partner/Adrien's mother figure and joining his wife in death. (We see wife's comatose body ascend with him so I guess she's dead? Sokka voice You know, it was really unclear) But anyway, yeah, our babyboy is a full orphan now! Also in an alternate timeline he accidentally created an apocalyptic event and killed everyone so it's not even the first time he was orphaned. So there's that

Adrien is the superhero Chat Noir, who had to fight his father as the supervillain Hawkmoth alongside his superhero partner Ladybug, neither Adrien nor Gabriel had any idea they were fighting each other, and Adrien still doesn't know his father was a supervillain, or how exactly he died, but Marinette does and is keeping it from him. Adrien's father is abusive towards him, having kept him effectively locked inside the house for the first 13 years of his life, and forcing him to model for his company. But still, Adrien is the sweetest boy ever to exist, he's endlessly kind to people, sometimes to his own detriment.

I am no good at infodumping I just love this little guy. However, Harrowhark Nonagesimus is such a close second, but I chose Adrien because he's from my current hyperfixation… ily Harrow. Listen, Adrien is the most guy and catgirl ever. If anything happens to him I will go nuts. Unfortunately, so much happens to him. I am not normal. Give my baby some hugs and some real parenting. Do you have any advice on how 2 not overwork a drawing? Over-detailing my art (to the detriment of the final result) is a big weakness of mine, and ive been working on it lately, but simplifying my art is way harder than I thought itd be. I keep getting stuck in a mentality that less detail = less effort, even though all my struggling should prove that isnt true lol. & I almost always like my simpler drawings better, even though that makes me feel kinda lazy…as long as it’s fun tho, right? [1/2]

I’m asking here bc one of the things I adore about your work is how confident and striking your paintings feel. I really admire the way colors and shape language interact in your art…I always want to keep looking to see what I can find hidden in the details, but they don’t take away from the main focus of the image. How do you manage to strike that balance? [2/2] (sorry for the long question lol)

honestly this is still something i struggle with at times! but some things that have helped me are:

- identifying which parts i tend to overwork the most. for me thats faces so i have made it a conscious habit to render faces last. that way i can match my level of face rendering to the rest of the piece.

- working on all parts of the painting at once. some artists are able to work on a painting from section to section. this is not me, regardless of detail level. jumping around all over the place keeps me from focusing too hard on one section above others. i even take this one step further by working on 2+ paintings simultaneously but there is something wrong with me for this one i'll admit.

- staying zoomed out for as long i can. this goes in hand with the previous point but when you're zoomed out its easier to lay down the biggest/primary color blocks without the temptation to detail. once the main color blocks are nicely balanced its easier to pick out a few points of interest to add spots of detail to, and restrain myself to them. (easier said than done! but i try!)

- getting comfortable with backtracking / deleting overworked sections and layers. this might seem scary but this has saved my ass more times than you might think. i always save a version of my drawings before i merge everything / start rending so i can always copy over earlier sections if needed.

- cold turkey removing details from the equation for a while. i did this more from necessity than choice, because i was struggling with my health a few years back and had zero energy to sink into art for long hours. but looking on the bright side it helped me realize what details are/aren't necessary and how to build my features from big -> small. this progression of my patho art shows pretty well how i introduced details back into my work over time.

but yeah! sometimes i do still find myself creeping a little too close to overwork territory for comfort, even with all these safeguards in place. in that case i have to accept that not every piece i put out will be my 'best' and that perfection has no place in art. that's not the point of it!

simplifying forms isn't easy, the same way abstract art isn't lazy. but with all things it can be learned with enough practice. and if you decide at the end of it all that you still like drawing a lot details, it might be a matter of readjusting how / where you implement them. best of luck <3

Fun fact, I'm a jojo's bizarre adventure fan. Also, this post is related to me talking about JoJo, and... Uh, yeah it's me complaining about a character design.

Am I the only one who thinks Dio in part 1 genuinely looks worse in the anime adaptation compared to his original manga design? (I was gonna use the colored manga as a reference since It is easier for me, but I'll make an exception since I don't wanna have arguments where I talk about the color of a design, just the design itself.)

Like, his hair is made way too spiky and too super Saiyan like in shape compared to the messy and flowy blond hair he is known for, his facial features make him too... Ugly, like he genuinely looks ugly. While I don't care about if characters are ugly or not, considering dio's whole design is that he is meant to be the most beautiful character in JoJo, I feel like the anime didn't do this well at all, like his weird wrinkles, the way they drew his lips, and... Yeah I don't like it. Also, his eyebrows should've stayed black, since the blond eyebrows unironcally doesn't look great on him. I think the worst part about his facial design, is that his appearance in the manga is like... NOT supposed to be that different from his pre-vampire self at all. In fact, in JoJo lore, when using the stone mask, your appearance changes to when you look 20 years old. (This was explained by dio in part 1 (which the explanation was cut in the anime) and straizo's appearance in part 2), so logically, his face shouldn't change appearance at all.

The weird thing is... He looked fine prior to the vampire transformation!

Like, pre-vampire Dio actually looks like how he is supposed to appear in part 1, and it looks semi accurate to the manga appearance. His vampire design tho... Why did they make him unironically uglier? (This is also a problem with part 3 Dio too imo.) Also his hair prior to becoming a vampire at least looks like it is flowing, because in the manga the only difference is that it is shorter (obviously he combed it, he didn't grow it out. Lol) in appearance, while as a vampire it looks slightly messy and longer, but you can still see some parts of his original hair style. In the anime tho, his hair is just badly misinterpreted as looking spiky and he legit looks like a dragon ball character in this style.

Also it kinda is a massive sin that these 2 outfits are cut... I can get why the 2nd one is cut since it is slightly complex, but why was the first one cut?

Like, I feel like it would make more sense to keep that scarf outfit since he obviously wouldn't be the type of person to wear the same costume all the time (unless it's for a longer fight of course), and even the manga proves he doesn't keep the same outfits in both his time in part 1, in part 3 and even part 6's flashbacks, yet the anime part 1 just has him keep the same outfit in the parts where they adapt chapter 24-41.

His main anime design IS inspired by his appearance in chapter 37-41, the outfit in the final battle of both Jonathan joestar and Dio. But like... I feel like they should've done a better job at making it more accurate? His collar with a gem AND his ankle cuffs with his shoes are for some reason now interpreted as a scarf AND knee high boots, 2 designs features that belong to his appearance in chapter 24-28... Which makes me even more confused on why they combined the 2 outfits, and I also don't get why they gave him sleeves that cover his arms when I feel like Dio would be the type of person to show off his arms (which he literally does anyway), and why did they give him armored pecs? He only wore a corset, which he needed to since that's where the scar on his body is at, but why his chest? And this is the only parts that are armored btw, making me wonder why they bother. I do think the rest of the design is fine tho, but I just wish they changed like 4 things to make it JUST a simplified outfit from chapter 37-41 instead of doing a weird thing where they mixed features from his other outfit and added unnecessary details like his sleeves covered and giving him an armored chest for some reason.

Honestly... I think I genuinely think dio's anime design is legit worse compared to the manga appearance. I don't like with his clothes redesign at all (and really, they could've just change like... 4 things on his clothes (AND keep his chapter 24-28 outfit intact) and I'd be fine with it), but his main and most prominent issue is his face. I think I would've had less of an issue with his outfit if they just made his face manga accurate since it looks good on normal manga Dio.

So no, while I'm not big on his clothes in the adaptation... His head design ruins it even more. Lol

His head design is also kinda ugly in the part 3 adaptation compared to his original manga design, but I'd say it isn't that huge of an issue compared to part 1 Dio, and ESPECIALLY to part 1 Dio since his anime design is more popular. TvT

7: what is an aspect of their appearance that you like the most?

I don’t use it often, but I love giving Sun those little white pupils. It adds an intensity and a direction to his intensity, and the little crazed element makes me go crazy. It’s v fun to add, and I try not to do it too often lest it loses its zest.

Moon’s twintail hat was such a nightmare in the design stage, but I’m glad I settled on long ones. I did a piece early on where his hat was short, and while I still like that piece (I’ll add it below) I still prefer the longer twintails. It adds a softness and drama that I love, and it was fun to write the bells.

Eclipse’s design is simple in comparison. Unlike the PMH boys, he’s just a tall stickbug shadow. Spikey and a stiff breeze could knock him over, yknow? But I find I like that simplicity. It makes him easier for me, and others to draw. (But I had to add the heels and the robo hips, even if they’re hidden under the cloak. I had to. You understand.)

11: is there any existing character from other media that your character resembles? Was the resemblance intentional or was it a coincidence?

Other than other DCA AU suns, I don’t think PMH Sun resembles any other media character. Other than the sunhinged aspect, I wrote him just like all other suns; excitable, loves kids, high energy and happy to do his job. The jealousy and possessiveness are sunhinged traits, but all his design elements were intentional, and any resemblance to other characters is accidental.

PMH moon is similar to Sun, in that they had to look like each other (as they are a pair) and needed to look the part for the Castle Faz show. The pantslessness tho….that was all me babeyyyyy

Eclipse on the other hand….has gotten a lot of resemblance queries. The closest I think is Aku from Samurai Jack (I definitely see it) but I have to stress that it was unintentional. I did not design him like that on purpose haha. As mentioned in a previous ask, I just tried to simplify his design, and his resemblance to any other characters was not my intention. That said, he’s gotten Maleficent, Jafar, and some other typical villain shaped characters in his look alike roster.

12: Do you have a playlist for the character? What songs do you associate with them and why?

I do have a playlist for PMH! but it’s private and unfortunately I can’t share it publicly because it has my full name attached to it and I can’t change it, oops. There are a few lute songs and opera songs that are mentioned in the fic (and a few musical numbers) but overall it’s a pretty disjointed playlist. It was useful for me to keep with the ‘emotional tone’ of some scenes. I’ll add a song for each character that let me get into their headspace.

A song I associate with Sun is ‘Let me be your wings’ from Thumbelina. There’s a certain point where I imagine Sun getting so caught up in his delusion that he imagines the Princess is asking him to let her fall; caught in a daydream of false happiness that he can’t see anything else.

For Moon I’d say it’s ’I hear a Symphony’ by Cody Fry. The song starts off quiet with just vocals and a single instrument, and then it booms into orchestra the more the lyrics begin to unravel the understanding of love in musical form. It’s a really beautiful song, and it captures Moon’s association with music and love really beautifully.

Now Celestial Meridian doesn’t have a playlist, and I can’t make a public one for the reasons detailed above. But less than a song, Le Parc aux Cerfs, which is a stunning short you can watch on YouTube, is a perfect capture of what I strive the ‘vibe’ of CM to be. Obviously it won’t be a perfect fit, but until I find a better example, I go back to watch this when I need inspiration. (This was sent to me last year in an ask and it was such a godsend thank you 🙏)

15: have you ever made a moodboard for them?

For Sun and Moon? No. They’re pretty straightforward, and pretty classic DCA boys imo. Sun and Moon motifs, with the addition of some theatrical and medieval elements. Add a lute, boom you’re done. (And don’t forget to take the pants away)

Eclipse doesn’t have one moodboard, he has like three haha. They’re more reference boards tho. One for poses, one for colour, one for story. None of them are safe for me to share publicly because ✨spoilers✨
