the mh comics open up such an interesting narrative for our few surviving characters. to them, what happened in the videos was real, but to everyone else its a cool creative web series. when all of that is viewed as fiction, fans have a freedom to speculate about and invade the lives and privacy of real people. and that would be so uncomfortable and terrifying. imagine someone irl having headcanons about YOU. writing fan fiction about you and your real friends. assuming things about you PUBLICLY ! IN MASS!
wouldnt it be so cool to see a character grapple with that in like a self-reflective way? fans asking questions the muse is too afraid to ask themselves. of course, theyre the only person the answer matters to.

I think that the 2010's media landscape of Buzzfeed articles about plotholes in disney movies, Cinemasins critiques, and Watchmojo Top Ten scenes in movies that make no sense has truely ruined a lot of media. People are afraid that their work will be torn down if they dare leave a single thing up in the air, if they dare ask their audience to suspend their disbelief.
All too often nowadays I see stories (especially fantasy), take the time to explain how every small aspect of the world works and how it all logically makes sense. The constant time stopped to explain why an event happened, how this object works, or why this is important to the characters. It's just really not needed and it honestly makes a lot of stories worse.
I am of the opinion that the best stories truly just drop you into their world and explain nothing. They just take you through the story of this world and you just have to accept it and continue on. "When he became king, the land became barren." I don't want the story to stop and explain why this is, or how it happened, I want us to move on so we can just assume that the king has such rancid vibes that everything died.

okay hear me out, hold me like a grudge by fallout boy is also SIL jaylex
"Part-time soulmate, full-time problem"
You're so goddamn right. That line right there describes Jay and Alex to a tee, that's literally them.
wait ooo tim and Jay would be that other fob song that's like "Ex-friends, Better off as lovers" (or at least that's how Jay'd see it, cos Jay would also think he and Alex were "Part-time soulmate, full-time problem") Bang the doldrums, thats what "ex-friends, better off as lovers" is from
god Jay and Alex as "part time soulmate, full-time problem" tho, that's so fkdsajf cos like, they're so nearly soulmates. They're so nearly soulmates. They could have been soulmates but there was too much else going on, too many awful things going on around them, whether that's the Operator or Alex's upbringing with the internalised homophobia stuff.
God i need to write that oneshot about jaylex's first time together. I need to fully show just how almost soulmates they were.
