But what if Robb won't pay their price? She wasn't a famous knight, and kings were supposed to put the realm before their sisters. And her lady mother, what would she say? Would she still want her back, after all the things she'd done?
--Arya IV, A Storm of Swords
Bring her home, Mance. I saved your son from Melisandre, and now I am about to save four thousand of your free folk. You owe me this one little girl.

the thing is the webtoon where the mc gets accidentally pushed down the stairs by random high schoolers is frustrating with how terrible the romance is but netkama punch is entertaining with how terrible the romance is and the difference is that even though in netkama punch the stakes/consequences are different for mc and li the intensity/impact are at a similar level. they’re both equally invested in (their version of) the relationship and their actions give each other the same kind of frustration and turmoil. they’re equally insecure and fragile (lol), even if the li has more material power they have equal emotional power (and in fact emotional power is skewed towards mc). in the other webtoon the power is just sooo weighted towards the ceo li. and he doesn’t use it well. like if there’s going to be a clear power differential it can at least be used well yknow

I don’t care if I get caught and disfellowshipped before my time. I DO NOT STAND FOR THIS. I am giving that guy a note next weekend. I may even speak to him. I don’t know. I don’t care. Down with Big Brother they’ll shoot me in the head etc. etc.

Aight boys since I've been seeing a lot of posts about people on tumblr worrying that Jp may be forced lemme make this clear. I know yall love him a lot. Rightfully so. And he did get assaulted and thay was wrong. I am not gonna be all tough guy on getting sucker pubched, no matter where you from you don't expect your vet to sock you. Dame and all have a different perspective yall, but it still doesn't make it right. But I need yall to understand this.
Poole had the most leverage out of anyone on the team sans steph on this situation. And its not a joke.
Poole is who lacob and the front office want to carry on Steph's legacy after retirement. He's their money making golden child. The reason half of dubnation was worried about this situation was because losing Poole would be worse than losing dray.
Losing dray is a better option from a luxury tax standpoint than Poole. If Poole wanted he could have happily left and gotten a big ass bag from half the nba teams frothing at the mouth for him. Lakers especially cause they need a shooting pg. Yall are massively overthinking this cause Poole could literally make a greater profit than not on the warriors
Lemme reiterate, he is not a lil baby, the man knows how to handle his cash and situation. You all are worrying about him from a human standpoint but you should look at it from a business way.
Poole forgave him cause he wanted to. If he didn't he would just secure the bag elsewhere (like gp2). That's business. He's not a lil blorbo irl guy, neither is steph. They're adults who know how to count their pockets
Edit: tldr, let's stop overthinking this cause we're gonna start thinking about the last dance again or some shit and trust that Poole and dray came to an agreement ya feel me

okay I slept nine hours again last night but it’s fine I’m telling myself that I’m just aggressively resting up now in case the coming semester is super stressful. 11 business days and counting with no reply from the foundation (not even an out of office reply??) which is driving me insane because I have such a limited window of time to do all this fall semester planning if we do indeed move forward with recruiting a new cohort. I am loath to waste these last couple weeks of break revamping the whole syllabus and prepping training materials for a new hire if we’re just going to get a no from the foundation, but I also don’t want september to be a living hell for me if I don’t do the work now while I have the time. agh! I think I’m going to try to use syllabus replanning as a chance to concretely apply what I’m learning from this learning & development research book. that way I can tell myself I’m prepping for my new job by practicing with a real world example, and I can get at least a chunk of the initial work done for the program. okay okay. I can do this.
here’s what I’ve done so far this morning:
I rewrote my learning objectives based on the book’s advice to set aside separately defined abstract goals and focus instead on the practical real world skills that I’ve noticed students need to successfully complete their projects. then I subdivided those complex bundled skills into different sub-skills I’ll need to explicitly teach them + made notes on what type of instruction would be most effective for each one. I have started loosely using that list to plan specific seminars but I am leaving that a bit more open for now… that’s going to be more sustained work.
since we are probably going to have to start a couple weeks behind schedule, I think I’m going to require them to attend a paid one-day weekend retreat where we can do some intensive cohort bonding and lay a foundation for the semester in a more deliberate way. I mapped out a rough schedule for that event.
I downloaded some templates for Asana and Notion to experiment with. I’m going to need to use more structured project management tools this year since I’ll be supervising a grad student employee, so I need to teach myself how to use them + also create replicable templates tailored to our program.
to save time for faculty and to get better recs I think we’re going to use a recommendation form instead requiring a rec letter. I sketched out a very rough version of that form though again will put off actually creating it until we have more info.
I mapped out a calendar of deadlines for august and sent it to my boss, then nudged her to nudge the dean about reaching out to the foundation again today.
I am going to pause program work for a bit and get back to reading my L&D book. I have 70 pages left so I might try to finish it in the next hour or so, depending on how dense the last sections are. then I will take a break and do podcast editing for a bit, as I find it soothing. I think a good strategy for this week is to spend 2-3 focused hours each morning on course prep then firmly set that work aside. that way I can feel like I’m making solid progress but I’m not wholly giving over my last precious weeks of vacation time to work that might not even turn out to be necessary.

I think one thing we need to address in the US if we want to de-stigmatize multi-generational households that include ADULTS from multiple generations, is that parents need to learn how to have adult relationships with their offspring.
Should my daughter deign to live with me when she's an adult she will not be my some vassal that has to obey my household rules. She graduates into being a peer in setting and managing the boundaries, cleanliness and appearance of our home.
Too many parents want to have relationships with grown ass adults in which the parents maintain control and authority, and in which they leverage money and history to get their way from an adult who, very reasonably, wants to be able to make choices and have influence. And then those parents wonder why their kids keep their distance!
But then people act like I've lost it because I let my 5 year old pick the color of paint in her room- a room I seldom spend time in except to take care of her, and a room in which I want her to be comfortable and happy.
I'm not gonna let her choose a paint color for the kitchen right now, because she's capricious and bad at negotiating so we can pick a color we all like. But when she's an adult, if she's still living here? Why shouldn't she get to influence her environment?
People like to have agency. We limit the agency of children because they make choices without the full ability to understand the results (sorry baby, you are gonna get vaccinated for pollio even if you don't like it. You don't understand pollio).
But limiting an adults choices in their own home, just because you don't think that home should be a real home for them because it's just for you, is kind of an asshole move, to me.
No need to argue with me if you disagree. You can have your own opinion.
But I couldn't treat my kid that way, and I have seen enough to know that not every parent treats their adult children like permanently incompetent interlopers.
I didn't just buy this house for ME. I bought it for MY FAMILY. My baby is my family, and she will be no matter how old she gets.

UPDATE: THEY MIGHT!
Tumblr media
Update: They've voted to authorize a strike!
(I debated adding this to the original post or not, since it's mostly being reblogged by people reblogging from someone that isn't me. But @animeengineer was kind enough to grab the link below, so I'm putting it in the original post)
I saw a tweet somewhere that said (and I'm so sorry I don't have the link to it or remember who wrote it):
I think 47+% of SAG members voted, and nearly 98% of the ones who voted, voted yes.
In comparison, I think the last time they voted in favor of a contract, around 25% of SAG members responded, and of those that did, about 75% voted yes.
Another Update: They're doing it! SAG-AFTRA is joining the WGA on the picket lines, and not just in solidarity!
Tumblr media
This isn't the Official from SAG-AFTRA, but they are voting this morning and if they don't strike, that goes against what all the members and the board and such have authorized.
[Image ID: A tweet from Discussing Film (@discussingfilm) from July 13th, 2023 that reads:
SAG-AFTRA is officially going on strike.
This is the first time both the actors & writers are on strike in over 60 years. /End ID]
Game on, AMPTP. Game. On.

Interested to see how the show will address the viability of the cordyceps cure because I know they have that line from Joel about "Marlene's not a fool, if she says they can do it, they can do it" but in the long run that doesn't really mean shit, and based on everything from the game, I'm fully behind the idea that the fireflies do not have the logistical capabilities to distribute a potential cure considering how clear it is that FEDRA has beaten them so badly it's pushed them to the point of desperation. Also if they did manage to make the cure they would NOT engage in widespread distribution unless they could use it as political leverage over FEDRA first, and the ensuing conflict between them and FEDRA over the vaccine and its distribution would lead to an escalation of conflict if not an all out war between the two factions for control of what's left of the country / continent.
#first of all I do not trust the fireflies at all#they want to liberate everyone from FEDRA control#okay but then what#who takes over? what kind of government do they install? how will they run things differently?#it's especially concerning considering the methodology between the two groups is actually identical lmao#I don't see the fireflies really being about liberation. maybe a lot of them believe that and people buy into it but.#I think at the most base levels it's a fight about who is in control rather than the method of control itself. its who gets to hold the gun#this potential cure is going to be used to stir support from people who wouldn't otherwise support them and as a political bargaining chip#they will promise a miracle and then control who gets that miracle because that's the only thing they have to cling to#we see what happens without it in the second game. they are damn near eradicated. especially on the mainland.#how quickly they get dismantled proves they are fighting for *their* survival bc they have nothing left to stand on#bc like hypothetically if they did manage to make a cure they would have to rely on FEDRA resources to mass produce it#in the show they say that all the drugs come from FEDRA facilities. the fireflies aren't putting anything out there.#they rely on FEDRA's manufacturing too and that means they don't have production means.#so the options are to hand over the vaccine to FEDRA out of goodwill (not happening)#negotiate with FEDRA using the vaccine as leverage so they can use their facilities (their only real option)#or escalate the war somehow to forcefully take over their facilities (definitely not happening judging by how hard they're losing already)#I have so many thoughts obviously
