Also absolutely love the face macaque makes here, has just arrived and already has regrets XD

It’s pretty interesting how macaque was the one to suggest tagging along with mk, (cause I had theorized that he would) and having him essentially give him a lesson about how things had went down with wukong makes a lot of sense, also macaque getting onto mk about how he barely knew anything about wukong’s past made me laugh, cause i can imagine after this is all over macaque would sit him down and lecture him about it. If tang hasn’t tried already.

My precious baby!! so hopelessly naïve about the world, him announcing, straight off flower fruit mountain, about how he can talk like a human now, and that he’s the monkey king had me simultaneously grinning and cringing at the same time, cause of course he would do that XD

THIS PART FRICKING SHATTERED ME- *aggressively points* IT’S DOUBLE BOUNDARY MOUNTAIN!! ITS DOUBLE BOUNDARY MOUNTAIN!!!

Interesting choice to have him chained underneath/against the mountain as opposed to being trapped underneath it. But taking creative liberties with it is fine too. I am suddenly reminded of the time I was obsessed with the angst potential that came with wukong being trapped underneath the mountain for five hundred years.

You know, I can sorta get why he was mad. It’s hard being angry when you know what happened was 100% your fault, and knowing that only makes you angrier. Cause the last thing you would want to do at that moment is look inwards and go “you know what? This is my fault, and I shouldn’t be biting people’s heads off for things that they had no control over.” Cause anger is sometimes illogical, and if there’s no anger all there would be left is nothing but hollowness and a deep sense of self hatred, like I’m sure this took place at least a few years during his imprisonment, so his emotions were still raw and his ego had just taken a massive beating, so I’m sure wukong had plenty of time to think things over after macaque left. But at this moment he just wanted to be angry.

Feb 2023, 5 ⭐️, 17/70 books.

This book was…horrific.

But it was beautiful at the same time. Not only does is play upon the haunting ideas of grief and revenge and anger and how that comes out in war torn countries, it does it with a stunning story inspired by Chinese history/mythology.

The characters are multi layered and there isn’t anyone who is just “good” or “evil”. Everyone has a skeleton in the closet, something they must avenge, and everyone has multiple faults, which makes this collection of characters all the more interesting.

The action is brutal, barbaric and there are so many triggers to keep in mind, and this story is not for the faint of heart. It’s going to punch you in the face, stab you in the stomach and then pour salt on your wounds all the while bringing you to tears because of the barbaric nature of war.

Stunning, inhumane and spirit crushing, this book is a masterpiece.

K I'm reading poppy war for the first time (please don't spoil it I just want to throw out an idea) and in at the part where rin and kitay are on holiday and they're talking about the puppet show and the trifecta and whatnot

first one is a charcoal one I did of chief of war mayor while eating mini m&ms. Never used charcoal before so oops

second one was a dare from a few of my friends where I had to pick a character to draw with just a felt marker in 4 minutes. Chose Nehza cause why not absolutely murder my sanity with his design

his pupils are digital now cause I came back and my friends coloured them in and he looks terrifying now 😳😳😳

hey if you're ever not sad just remember that junao in lb4 when making his lokapala the servants he summoned were thought to be random but william tell confirmed that the three specifically were summoned because the ember of humanity that remained in arjuna was crying out for help and after having lost everything and everyone he loved to pointless wars (which is why junao became an all encompassing god in the first place) the servants he had summoned were not Just asclepius, nehza and william tell. they were a doctor who could bring back the dead, an honorable warrior meant to be a guardian to the gods, and a gentle father who would not give up on his child. they were corrupted through the summon ritual due to limbo but even through that they were still at their core committed to the mission not to serve arjuna but to protect him. limbo specifically when talking about junao described him as innocent and naive. when tell confronts limbo and manages to harm arjuna, he calls out to arjuna not only as a fellow archer but as a father telling a child everything will be okay, your pain was heard, you're not alone, you'll be ok.

arjuna just wanted his family back.

How does she feel about nehza. Doesn't think about him at all or does she enjoy teasing him for the "hidden" admiration or something else

she sees him as a smart guy but ultimately loves to poke at the fact she had his side of the war bamboozled for AGES before she eventually lost

I like what mara321 said, what if the Reader gets bored and decides to appoint one of the others with the role of the master, like a swap? I personally would walk right up to Nehza and be like "YOU. YES YOU. Congrats, you're the master now and I get to be the eternal servant, how fun is that?" Or maybe Inky would take that role given he's not as loyal as the others... I think it would be funny to see one of the champions giving orders then pausing and looking at the Reader like "Was that ok?" I love this concept, I really do.

Also huge fan of your Macaque (because butterflies, that's the only way I can describe the emotion) and your Wukong (he's so elegant, I wanna cry-)

And, speaking of Inky, I adore him with every fiber of my being, he needs more love.

And in terms of the Reader swapping up roles, I feel like that borders a previous ask I got about the champions being dared/tasked to basically worship another champion instead- [This one]- Just with the addition of the Reader wanting to be a champion too.

So pretty sure whoever would be chosen as the temporary Master would just be awkward af and wouldn't give his actual Master any tasks, besides just cuddling or something where he can help them to spend time with them.

Unless it's Mink.

But I generally advise against picking Mink as a Master for the Reader.

Especially if their relationship isn't stable and he doesn't like them.

Because unlike the others, depending on his standings with the Reader, he does not give a flying fuck whether or not the Reader is actually comfortable with something.

He would most definitely give them tasks that can range between being embarrassing and literally deadly.

If he despises them, of course he'll try to get rid of them in any way possible, even if that involves getting them killed over their own choice to pick him as Master.

If involved in a rather wholesome relationship with him, he might even just uno reverse that task and give the Reader the task to be Master again.
