Finished the Royal Centibytes, in both pre- and post-conversion flavors!

I thought court jesters would be a fun change of pace from king/queen or prince/princess- there's a precedent for royals to occasionally be things like heralds and war(?)horses, and I wanted to make a royalgirl who isn't a princess, noblewoman, or queen. I got to learn a little about some historical female court jesters while looking for references, which was cool!

I agonized for a while over whether I should put eyelashes on the one that I arbitrarily assigned 'Royalgirl', but ended up deciding that they look cute.

theres a special class of liars that are willing to pull any lever they think will give them their desired outcome. usually they want monetary or reputational support from one chunk of a group and then using the negative reaction to further fuel a pity party.

tactics include but are not limited to:

"im fleeing for my LIFE!" then why are you posting any info for the people trying to find you

"me/my family received DEATH THREATS" credible threats must be reported and also youre letting your enemies know what gets under your skin, just sayin

and of course, threatening suicide, implying suicide, feed my neopets, etc. this one obviously cant be dismissed out of hand but by bringing in crisis stakes, youre asking for crisis level consequences.

for these liars, these are all tools to just get them to tomorrow. to keep the plates spinning for one more show. it's more than okay to hold out pending further details when it comes to public figures

neopets new art direction where everythings overrendered and the maraquan quiggle is just a generic cartoon toad with webbed feet (???????) makes me want to bite people. i hate it so much. if anything makes me quit the website it will be my desperation to not see new overrendered assets anymore

got any thoughts on Tonu?

Tonu are obviously rhinos, though in classic Neopets style they have a mane (seriously, Neopets LOVES manes) and a few large spots on their sides. They sport a singular horn on their nose and standard odd-toed ungulate feet. They're nothing fancy, but they have just enough that they don't feel overly straightfoward to their IRL animal counterpart. Color use is also good, with a light base color for the skin and darker accents on the mane, tail, horn, and toes. No complaints here.

The Tonu definitely benefited from customization, loosing the very strange looking face with its oversized eyes, improper perspective on the left side, and unneeded line under the horn. Stuff like the tail shape and the mane size also improved, and the number of small spots on the side were reduced by one.

Favorite Colours:

8-bit: I went over this in my 8-bit colour review so I'm not going to go into too much depth here, but this is a beautiful color. There's lots of details in the pixels, including multiple layers of shading, and it comes with a very fun rainbow mane and unicorn-esq horn/tail. These elements are wearable as a bonus, so you don't have to keep them if you don't care for them—though personally I like them a lot, and I feel like they keep the colour from being overly bland.

Candy: What can I say? Tonus just do really well with rainbows. The candy Tonu has a subtly swirled pink candy body with these rainbow cotton-candy accents, including a unique shape for the mane and tail. The horn is given stripes to match, and some blue eyes make the whole thing pop. It's tasty, it's pretty, and it's fun—what's not to like?

Wraith: Wraith is one of those colors where how good it looks depends entirely on whatever artist worked on that species. I'm happy to report that the artist who worked on the Tonu did a great job with it. The entire body has a very fluid motion to it, with swirls around the mane and tail, and tings like their knees and nostrils have become stylized shapes. There's a careful balance of positive and negative space, and an appropriately malicious expression. Good stuff.

BONUS: Using a birch tree (and yes it is a birch, though admittedly the leaf shapes are a bit off) for the Tonu because of its white, rough, constantly-peeling bark is a brilliant pick, as it perfectly fits with a rhino's rough skin. The textures are good and wrap around the body correctly, and the leaf mane and tail are integrated with care. (An honorable shoutout goes to magma, which is solid but didn't quite make the cut.)

if seeing dragon opinions you disagree with makes you feel personally attacked despite having nothing to do with you then thats your problem to deal with. take a break instead of telling people to shut up because theyre too negative for you. dont open or read or reply to the very threads that upset you. its that easy. no one is tearing you down for being happy so why are you tearing down people who arent. why do you think your negativity and moral judgement towards those who are negative is allowed but magically negative opinions on dragon neopets isnt.

seeing a post like "you need to let some spaces exist untouched by real-world issues and venting etc" had me thinking "hmm, I can certainly think of examples where cultivating an atmosphere like that is ideal, like the 'kid-friendly but inclusive' direction taken by game communities like neopets/toontown or a short-term, fast-moving space like a stream chat where you want to stay on topic and respect the vibe"

but I look at OP's blog and they're singling out anyone making additions to their post along the lines of "yeah, while critical discussions relevant to the fandom can be valuable, fandom spaces don't always need to host off-topic heavy discussions" by basically calling them idiots missing the point and that they were specifically advocating for spaces with no criticism or negativity or politics whatsoever. and also a bunch of these posts were tagged with #proship #proshipping (???)

i think what's stopping more spaces like that from existing is that it would suck ass and quickly implode. if you try to grow a community where disagreements and being Real with people are discouraged, people will be excluded implicitly or otherwise feel unwelcome. maybe you're fine with that, and you just want to hang out with your inner circle, but it feels dishonest to try to sell it as a Mental Health Safe Haven Untouched By Real-World Issues. your own personal biases and stances on those real-world issues will affect your judgment calls re: what's considered Too Negative or Political for your community. this seems like it would be a nightmare to moderate and would end with a lot of people burned (and so I'm thankful that, as an example, neopets no longer considers LGBT identities too adult/political/divisive)

also the tags they repeatedly use imply that their ideal space could also welcome discussion of certain things that are inherently heavy, triggering real-world issues, yet any critical discussion or negativity would be unwelcome. this seems contradictory and maybe not healthy?
