Firstborn Falke, who tried to be so much for so many...
Pulled themself in too many directions, gifted child syndrome they had too much pressure on them, and it caused them to overexert their powers as a mesmer in turn. Sending out clones and illusions to help while they helped elsewhere, giving too much power and agency to those other selves, until it all spiraled out of control and the illusions were appearing second-natue without Falke even trying. Even when they wouldn't be necessary.
One day Falke looks over and just sees...themself. In another room of their home. They hear friends bring up conversations they don't remember having because the real them wasn't there. They try to reel it in but it's too late, their magic is out of their control and has a life of its own, they made this too second-nature to stop it now.
And it starts really making them wonder at times if they're the real Falke or one of the illusions, how much realism did they give those clones to act independently...? Do they all have memories? True agency? Which one becomes the real Falke then?
It starts affecting Falke and their illusions physically, magic as strong as ever but their sense of self shattering like illusions when they vanish...their illusions all start looking a little fragmented, like they're starting to shatter and vanish already, but they still go off to find ways to help before actually vanishing. Falke themself is growing in new ways, cracks in their bark mimicking the shattered effect and their glow shining through...
They've become somewhat of a cautionary tale in the Grove and surrounding Caledon forest, where you can see their clones out and about still finding people to help, as their main body stays within the Grove among concerned siblings trying to help them recover.

Its Blursday! You hand the OC of your choice $1 million dollars (or the equivalent in your/their world!), what do they spend it on?
Happy Blursday, Nopal!
This question made me laugh a little bit because my guys are the most unselfish/non-materialistic people ever. And with Caledon being a very young developing country, a million dollars would go a long, long way.
Adrin would probably use some money to fix up his parent’s house, then pass the rest off to the others.
Oliver would use some to buy himself a new sword since he is going to be super jealous of Adrin’s, and then offer the rest to Mara
Mara would use some to buy herself a new cloak after hers was confiscated by the guards, and then offer the rest to Hettie.
Hettie would just turn around and give the rest out to everyone in South Rothar for home repairs, clothes, food, medicine, etc.
Collectively, the gang would spend like $300 and give the rest away 😂

Provided the personal story is canon to your commander’s backstory, do they keep in touch with the people from back then?
For Bria, she’s been pen pals with Tiachren on and off for almost a decade at this point, and he is quite literally the only thread still somewhat connecting her to the grove at all.
I daresay he of all people understood quite well what it was like being forced to kill the one person you love the most, so post-Maguuma exchanging letters with him was a big source of comfort for Bria when she felt like she couldn’t talk to anyone else they were close to at the time - talking to someone who hadn’t been there, who didn’t pity her but who just understood, who knew what it felt like to have a hole ripped into your very soul without having to try and explain when she lacked the words to describe just how miserable it was, who understood the anger and desperation. It was therapeutic.
Even after Bria had managed to somewhat work through all of that, they still kept in touch, albeit irregularly, exchanging news and the occassional gifts (mostly Bria sending home souvenirs I guess).
Also in my canon I like to imagine Tiachren went on to become a Warden and worked to keep Caledon safe from the influence of the court, to prevent others from sharing a similar fate to Ysvelta and himself. I also like to think that eventually he found love again because I am a sap lmao. So yeah! I love Tiachren tbh, I have very fond memories of playing the personal story with Bria for the very first time and in a way he was one of the first characters that introduced me to Tyria, so I just like the idea of them still being friends to this day, even if life took them to wildly different places.

So I was wrong :(
For context, weather is a HUGE shift trigger for me, especially what we typically think of as springtime weather. If its rainy/overcast, temps in the 50s-70s, crisp air, and a strong breeze, it's pretty much guaranteed I'll have at the least a slight mental shift. Now where I live, the weather has been weirdly warm, with temps in the low 40's and nonstop rain, so I've been shifting rather frequently, which meditating on my hearthome.
Whenever think about what my hearthome could be, I'm instantly hit with kin memories of stony hills, dense pine forests, fish-filled wetlands, plunging cliffs into the gray ocean, herds of deer and warrens of rabbits in case I ever wanted red meat, and a constant damp chill in the air. Anytime I'm in nature with a similar vibe to that, its shift city baby.
Being the ecology nerd I am, I almost instantly assumed I lived somewhere along the intersection between a boreal forest (taiga), and tundra, and I was happy with that! I mean it checks all the boxes- cold, the right type of plants, big ol' mountains, sometimes wet, and with fish and large game aplenty! But the one thing I could never get around was how cold it actually got that far north.
I HATE snow. I really cant stand it, and I don't really have any kin memories it. I mean, how does an arctic dragon hate snow? I thought about how I also hate when it gets dark early in the winter, because it messes with my sleep schedule severely. Well, I guess that must mean I hibernate! If I have a diet and lifestyle similar to a brown bear, I probably have torpor like one too!
And I stuck with that thought process for months and months, until today. Like I said, I've been in shift city due to the weather, despite the fact that I almost never have weather-triggered shift when it's colder than 40, or snowy. I don't have any kin memories of either snow OR settling down for hibernation, hell, I don't even have kin memories of midnight sun.
So, after hours of research on the wikipedia page for ecoregions, I came to the conclusion that I'm not from a boreal forest/taiga, but probably a temperate broadleaf and mixed forest, the most similar ecoregion I can find being the Caledon conifer forests and the north Atlantic moist mixed forests.
Basically, where I lived was closest to the sparse, grassy, and mountainous forests, bogs, and moors of Ireland and Scotland!
I'm very happy about finding a new detail about my past life, but unfortunately it means I'm going to have to do a lot more meditation to make up for some of the assumptions I've made about my hibernation, by lifestyle, what foods I ate, and how I lived day-to-day. Despite looking and feeling similar, boreal forests and temperate broadleaf and mixed forests are VASTLY different environments, with vastly different adaptations.
Moral of the story: Don't be afraid to admit you're wrong about a kin memory, or that you interpreted the cause of a shift incorrectly, or any mistake you might have made in your own personal kin journey. It hurts a lot to know this environment I've put so much thought and love into wasn't actually my home, but I'm so much happier being closer to the truth.
If you're interested in narrowing down your hearthome, and being able to talk about/find uber-specific pictures, I HIGHLY recommend this resource! I could spend hours just looking through all the interesting environments. Support Wikipedia!

Widow Skimmer - Libellula luctuosa
Alongside the Belted Whiteface monitoring the cottage pond, several of these majestic individuals were found perching and patrolling this area of low to the ground plants. Their wing and body patterning were similar to the Common Whitetail Dragonflies and Twelve-Spotted Skimmers (respectively, and the females for the latter) that are prominent at the stream near my home, but alas, these photographs showcase a new find for me. Upon researching, this new Skimmer is a closer relative to the Twelve-Spotted (L. pulchella). The individual in this set of pictures is a male. In terms of coloration males and females appear similar, although certain images I've seen showcase females with more prominent yellow markings on their abdomen, leading atop the head and thorax. Where identification is concerned, there are other features we can examine to be certain. We can also consider the wings! Male Widow Skimmers have those white areas decorating the middle of the wings (next to the brown bands closer to the body), while females lack those sections. This distinction also helps clear up any confusion for this specie against the Common Whitetail.
It might sound silly, but the two Dragonflies can be tough to identify in the blink of an eye. This is of further importance as the male Widow Skimmer's abdomen turns white with age due to pruinescence (just like fellow cottage resident, the Belted Whiteface), further increasing the resemblance to the Whitetail. It's not clear to me why these Dragonflies' bodies become coated with waxy, white scales as they age, but the change is thought to help with heat control and territorial warning function. No matter these case, best be aware that Dragonflies can go gray and body patterns may not hold all the answers for identification. Speaking of which, immature males may not have the white areas on the center of the wing (they will appear with age), so look for the presence of claspers at the tip of the abdomen. They should be quite prominent (as they were for this male) and clear all doubt. The brown patches will always be there, whether male or female, and their appearance (resembling a mourning garb) in conjunction with their species name gave them the title of "Widow Skimmer". If not for the carnivorous habits, if would be interesting (or a fearful omen) to see them alongside Mourning Cloak Butterflies.
Pictures were taken on July 1, 2023 in Caledon with a Google Pixel 4. Next week, one more Caledon insect: a beautiful Beetle saved from the swimming pool.

My Competition
Although my idea to specifically target professionals within the equestrian industry is new, there are many other dog walking/care services within the area of these different horse shows, so I think that it is important to keep this in mind. The three big competitors that I have chosen seem to be some of the most popular dog walkers within the surrounding area’s of Ontario’s two big horse shows. We spend most of the summer split between Caledon and Erin, which provides me with a unique advantage over these competitors being that I go where the horse shows are, meaning I am in both locations rather than just one like the competition. First is Wags N Wiggles Dog Walking and Pet Sitting, located in Caledon. Their website is definitely adequate, although it is nothing exciting. I can’t seem to find anything about the pricing, although I see that they seem to offer many different levels of service when it comes to dog walking and pet care. The advantages that this company offers would definitely be how many different needs she can cater to, however she does have the disadvantage of not already being at the horse shows. I would say that the website is another weakness because although it is alright, it isn’t the easiest to navigate and I think if I were to be searching for a dog walker I would probably look for a website that looks a little bit more professional and easy to use. Next is Bold Canine which is a dog walking/pet sitting service located in Erin. This website is a lot more user friendly compared to the last, and just seems a bit more professional. They have the advatage of offering many different services as well, such as training classes, however for the audience that I’m trying to reach I don’t think that this will sway them. I can’t find prices for the dog walking services however I can see that training classes are $275, so I’d Imagine that the walking service is fairly pricey as well. They also have the advantage of already having a strong team assembled consisting of many professional animal trainers. The final competitor I’ve chosen to look into is Trishs Pet, another service located in Erin. This seems to be another one of the more popular dog walkers in the area, because there is a waitlist for almost every service that they offer. Once again, the website is underwhelming and definitely looks a little “DIY”. A 30 minute individual dog walk is $25, but she also offers longer group walks as well as in home pet sitting. One common strength amongst all of these competitors is that they offer many services whereas I would only be offering dog walking, however for the problem that I am trying to solve I don’t think that this will be a problem. Wags N Wiggles have testimonies on their website and it seems like they are doing a great job at what they do, and from what I could find about the other two businesses people seem overall quite happy with them and their services as well.

My Relationship with Nature
My relationship with nature has been complicated, as I have not always appreciated its beauty and its ability to give back to us.  As a child, going out for walks was a beloved routine for my parents, but seemed like a mundane routine to me. My relationship with nature has evolved as I’ve grown up leading to a profound love for nature, especially due to travelling across United States and Canada, moving to Caledon, volunteering, the pandemic, and my younger sister.
In high school, I volunteered with my best friend at the YMCA Cedar Glen, which involved planting 100 trees, storm management, and restoring gardens in Mississauga. This was my first time being so involved in nature, and it felt very meaningful to be participating in activities meant to help the environment. This opportunity was the most memorable out of all my volunteering experiences as I was able to spend time in nature, while having fun doing it and making memories.
Moving to Caledon brought me a lot closer to nature, as we have a huge valley behind our backyard where deer regularly pass by, which has increased the amount of time I spend outside taking in the beauty of our neighbourhood. Since moving, me and my family regularly go on long drives every Sunday to spend more time with each other, and in nature, away from electronics. This initiative began with my mom, and it became something we often looked forward to at the end of the week.
Travelling has also played a major role in transforming my love and care for nature. Our trip to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick, was my favourite, where we got to visit the Cape Breton Island and Peggy's Cove, which were two of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The sights at these locations were breathtaking, full of lush green mountains, beautiful waves, and ocean views. We also decided to take a train to travel to New Brunswick to experience a relaxing ride through the nature.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pandemic was also a contributor to solidifying my relationship with nature as it provided me an opportunity to get over the boredom of being at home and relieve my anxiety. Recently, I have been taking more advantage of the benefits that nature offers, to let go of stress, improving health, and achieving a calm sense of mind. Taking a few deep breaths of fresh air is enough to boost your mood and your energy level. While being in the pandemic, I have realized that nature can be healing, and it significantly helped me to stay positive during those uncertain times.
My sense of place was cultivated by my younger sister as she is someone who has immense love for nature and travelling. She is always motivating me to be outside and to spend time with her doing activities, such as biking and hiking in trails. She often forces our family to make time to enjoy nature, so we try to regularly sit on the deck in our backyard, enjoying the views, and reading a book. I hope to learn more about nature through this course, and to continue connecting and making memories with nature.
Thank you for reading! :)

Impact of COVID-19 on Real Estate Trends and Preferences
Tumblr media
Introduction:
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a catalyst for change in various aspects of our lives, and the real estate sector is no exception. From shifting preferences in housing to altering investment strategies, the impact of the pandemic on real estate trends and preferences has been profound. As the world adapts to the "new normal," it is crucial to understand how this crisis has reshaped the dynamics of the real estate market.
Remote Work and Home Preferences:
One of the most significant impacts of the pandemic on real estate has been the rise of remote work. With companies embracing telecommuting, many individuals and families have reevaluated their housing needs. Suburban areas and smaller cities have witnessed increased demand as people seek larger homes with dedicated office spaces and outdoor amenities. The desire for more space and privacy has led to a surge in demand for single-family homes, townhouses, and properties with spacious yards.
Urban Revitalization Challenges:
While suburban and rural areas have experienced a surge in demand, urban centers have faced challenges. The appeal of city living, characterized by proximity to amenities and cultural attractions, has been overshadowed by concerns about density and public health. As a result, some urban dwellers have opted to relocate to less densely populated areas, leading to a slowdown in urban real estate markets. However, as vaccination rates increase and restrictions ease, urban areas may experience a resurgence in demand, albeit with a renewed focus on health and safety measures.
Shifts in Commercial Real Estate:
The pandemic has also reshaped the commercial real estate landscape. With remote work becoming the norm for many businesses, the demand for office space has decreased significantly. Companies are reevaluating their office space requirements, with some opting for smaller footprints or flexible lease arrangements. Additionally, the retail sector has faced challenges as online shopping continues to gain traction, leading to vacancies in malls and commercial centers. However, there are opportunities for adaptive reuse as vacant retail spaces are repurposed for logistics, healthcare, or residential purposes.
Impact on Investment Strategies:
Investors in the real estate market have had to adapt to the changing landscape brought about by the pandemic. Traditional investment strategies may no longer be viable in the face of uncertainty and volatility. As a result, there has been growing interest in alternative real estate investments such as industrial properties, data centers, and healthcare facilities. These sectors have demonstrated resilience during the pandemic and offer attractive risk-adjusted returns.
Technology and Innovation:
The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of technology in the real estate industry. Virtual tours, digital transactions, and remote property management tools have become essential tools for buyers, sellers, and agents alike. Moreover, advancements in proptech and smart home technology have become increasingly relevant as homeowners prioritize convenience, comfort, and sustainability.

Ontario Cold Cases - The Podcast, coming this Sunday, April 7th Eric Lar...
S2-EP14 Eric Larsfolk & John McCormick Jr. (Trailer)
Hello, I’m Jay Nicoll of Nicoll Investigations and I’m here to tell you about our next episode of Ontario Cold Cases - The Podcast, coming this Sunday, April 7th on the disappearance of Eric Larsfolk and John McCormick Jr.
It was a warm, cloudy evening the night of August 24, 1981. Eric’s father watched from a chair on the front porch of their new home on Horseshoe Hill Road as his 14-year-old son Eric rode his bicycle down the dusty driveway heading for the McCormick farm a half-kilometre up Horseshoe Hill Road.
It seemed normal, he said of Eric not being home when night fell, figuring he was watching television at the McCormick’s residence.
Eric Larsfolk and John McCormick Jr. were last seen on the McCormick family farm on Horseshoe Hill Road driving a field car on August 24, 1981. They haven't been seen or heard from since.
