I discovered i still had MW'05 installed in the depths of my ssd and decided to have some nostalgic fun (yes the car in the screenshot is the bonus C6.R, i love driving track racecars out of their context so had a quick race with that). Here's what i think after an hour of gameplay:

I really hope the rumors of a proper remake are true

Howdy y’all, just a small post regarding the history of the National Fallout Shelter Survey and Marking Program! Saw this sign in a scene of Mad Men (which takes place in 1960 [season one]) and realized that even big-name shows make historical mistakes, so you might too when creating Cold War media. 

The NFSS began in 1961 under President John F. Kennedy. With the help of local surveyors, engineers, and architects, pre-existing buildings that met the criteria for a proper fallout shelter were “marked, stocked, and mapped.” Until this point, there was no true national effort to create public shelters, and indeed, shelter markings, supplies, and locations were up to local discretion, if at all considered. 

One of the bigger plot lines of season one of Mad Men is the advertising campaign for Richard Nixon’s presidential race against JFK, so it’s even more glaring that this sign was included in this scene, even though Kennedy had not yet won the election.

Hello! I’ve been in the vc community bone collecting for a bit, I just don’t have the tools to start my own taxidermy, but I want to! I saw you mention Ares (sorry if I spelled it wrong!) death cast, what is a death cast? And would it be possible for someone to do a death cast of the skinned version of the animal? I don’t think I’d be able to realistically sculpt a head base or any body part in general for a mount, so I’m looking for alternatives when I get into taxidermy. Thanks in advance!

Hello & Welcome! You’ll find VC is an easy going community where everyone can set their own pace. (Speaking of which, sorry about the late response!) Based on our workspace sizes & resources we all find our ways of making it possible!! 

A death cast is basically a cast of a dead body, or part of one. The cast is a reference material for the taxidermist to refer back to when rebuilding the final critter. Generally the face, nose & soft lip details are captured with this technique. In this case, my client had 3 pieces made of the remains of her 17 yo Columbian boa, Ares; the articulated skull, the tanned flat skin, and a “death cast” or cast memory of his perfect snek snoot. Because plaster casts are inherently heavy and cumbersome, they are used as a visual check in recreating a piece, but are not usually incorporated into the end taxidermy mount.  

Here I used DAP artists’ grade plaster of paris to capture as much scale detail as possible. After 2 attempts I was really happy with the results, and my client gave me permission to make & keep a copy of the cast for my own collection! Absolutely one of my all-time favorite NFSs! 

As for your other question, well you could, technically, cast a skinless carcass. However it would likely leave traces of oil, blood, or grease in the alginate negative. (youtube alginate casting!) These goodies would stick in the paster and taint the final product. Though, thinking about it, washing & toweling off the freshly skinned body might mitigate that... Lol I haven’t tried it, so I can’t say for sure..... You’ll have to try it yourself and report back!

Free Bird Breeding Record Keeping Software

A notebook, a pencil, a toe punch & numbered pen tags. Also a pretty good memory & an understanding of the birds I breed. I can pick a half grown bird out of a pen & without checking toe punches can almost always tell you which mating it came from. That's the most important part of a breeding program, know your birds & what they produce. I am planning to buy a software which can help me in keeping the records of breeding budgies. I came across this breeding program. Birds Evolution Pro.

Keeping records on the birds you are raising is helpful and useful if you decide to breed them and raise offspring, and if you intend to eventually give or sell any of your birds to other finchkeepers. Read Finch Information Center's excellent banding & record keeping info here

Free Bird Breeding Record Keeping Software 2020

If you decide to allow your birds to breed and raise offspring, record-keeping is really important. Registering and closed-banding your baby finches about 10 days after hatch is important if you want to keep track on your birds for later on - to sell to other breeders or for showing in a Finch Show for breeder points. Pet bird keepers may not care if your birds are closed-banded and registered with the National Finch & Softbill Society.

It has many powerful breeding tools not generally available in other breeder pedigree programs. P igeon Loft Organizer software provides a quick and easy way for you to manage all your pigeon data. Keeping records can be key to success. You can quickly see all your pigeon records, pedigrees, race results, race information and more at a glance.

Breeders Assistant for Birds (BA) is pedigree and record keeping software for bird breeders which includes such features as ability to print highly configurable pedigree forms, carry out pedigree analysis, store your breeding records and so much more.

For a lot of breeders, pen and a paper record-keeping is perfectly fine. For each bird, jot down the ring number or a visual description, the gender, age, and related birds. If you’ve got a substantial number of birds to keep track of, the only practical way to maintain your records is with software.

Split or 'Open' bands are a great way to identify your birds if you are not going to closed-band them within about 8 to 10 days of their hatchdate. The most common uses of split bands is to visually ID which gender your finches are once you have heard the males sing and dance, or sometimes to keep which familiy they came from all one color of band for easy visual ID of birds which are related or not related to one another. You can usually find a vendor at a Bird Mart that carries strings of colored split bands - either solid colors or stripes - and they are usually very inexpensive. Split bands are also available from many vendors online - check: Bird Supply of New Hampshire or Redbird Products

Serious birdkeepers will usually request your bird breeding records, if they are breeding certian varieties of finches and seeking to control their own breeding outcomes for various characteristics. This could be feather color, body shape (conformance) eye color, beak color, feather-patterning (varigation) or lack of (clear wing) song quality, song loudness or softness, and others.

If you are serious about learning what specific qualities dedicated finch breeders are looking for, a good place to start learning is by reading the NFSS Judge's Handbook 2010 - 4th Edition. The NFSS also maintains a National Census of Finches and Softbills - to track how many and what types of which species of Finch and Softbills are being raised in the USA and Canada and their territories. For genetic selection, it is essential to have a basic understanding of various details that comprise the characteristics for which you are breeding. There are websites dedicated to various methods of attaining certain attributes such as feather color combination/feather color placement on Lady Gouldian Finches and Zebra Finches. Garrie Landry is one of the foremost experts with direct years of experience in breeding Society Finches and Zebra Finches and many other types of birds.
