It’s wild to me that there isn’t more discourse about the complex relationship between Jessica Pearson and Nick D’Amato on Suits spin off Pearson. They inadvertently cover so many tropes, and Gina Torres and Simon Kassianiades have fantastic on screen chemistry. It was giving:
Bodyguard (potential) romance
Enemies to friends to (should have been) lovers/frenemies to lovers
BWWM
Boss/employee (kind of)
Older woman/younger man
Slow burn
and about 15 other things that are complex and spoiler-y but the way he was protecting her even before she hired him was giving “I care about this woman even though I hate to admit it, and I will cut anyone who looks at her sideways, even though we make each other crazy and want to cuss each other out sometimes)
I dare anyone to tell me that conversation in Ep 5 when they are on the stairs quasi-arguing about having walls up and not letting each other in and not knowing anything about each other is about work and professionalism and the investigation. It’s so romance-coded, it’s insane: softer yellow lighting, out of the way location after office hours, requests for transparency and communication- watching it is like listening to two separate conversations, but only one is happening out loud. Urgh, we deserved more, and we deserved better.

Rousing bleeding-heart majesty
Oliver Stone employs his hyper-stylized aesthetics for a titanic, from-all-angles portrait of professional football in Any Given Sunday, an all-star 1999 film that brazenly strives for Shakespearean grandeur, thanks in part to the scripting of playwright-turned-screenwriter John Logan. At the center of this gladiatorial gridiron epic is Tony D’Amato (Al Pacino), wearied championship coach of the Miami Sharks, who’s grappling with numerous dilemmas, from the disloyalty of owner Christina Pagniacci (Cameron Diaz) to his lovelorn loneliness to—most crucially of all—a severe injury to his veteran quarterback Cap Rooney (Dennis Quaid). The last of those problems manifests itself in the opening sequence, and sets the stage for the emergence of third-string QB “Steamin’” Willie Beamen (Jamie Foxx), an arrogant bad boy who quickly becomes a league and media sensation, even as he slowly alienates his coach and teammates—including Lawrence Taylor’s linebacker and LL Cool J’s running back—with his me-first attitude.
Those are only a few of the issues tackled by Any Given Sunday, which manages to touch upon the myriad ways that money, sex, race, gender, fame, ego, fear, amorality, and greed factor into the sport. Throughout, Stone and Logan critique the league’s shadier aspects (and types of personalities) with North Dallas Forty-grade bluntness. Yet they refuse to outright condemn football for its failings, instead elevating it to the realm of myth, replete with images of players’ silhouettes cast against heavenly clouds, schizoid montages equating modern athletes with former icons, cameos from NFL greats (including Jim Brown, Johnny Unitas, and Y.A. Tittle), and a sequence that cross-cuts between D’Amato and Beamen arguing and scenes from Ben-Hur—followed by an appearance by Charlton Heston, no less.
Stone’s bruising, blistering game footage is some of the best ever committed to film, and his frenzied montages further lend the action concussive energy. Brimming with well-drawn characters and reverence for its subject matter (flaws and all), it’s an epic that captures a 360-degree view of modern football. It also features one of Pacino’s great late performances, all exhausted-king sorrow and inspiration, which climaxes with a motivational speech about life, sacrifice, and battlefield camaraderie. Its rousing bleeding-heart majesty would surely please the Bard.

i want to talk about hassan piker and destiny for a moment, Destiny i have a modicum of respect for, he is literally the only person on earth right now, who is a leftist willing to debate his ideology, im serious, for years thats all i wanted because all i really wanted was to be wrong you know, but wherever you looked for someone to stand firm and really explain their views and the discripencies i and many others saw, all we found was jelly and smoke, at least destiny tried, he was a duplicitous little rat who lied but at least he tried and for that he has my respect. on the other hand you have hassan, who i was aware of probably before any of you because i watched him debate nick fuentes before nick fuentes was anybody, and he was badly embarrassed by nick, thats not even a matter of debate, it was so embarrassing the debate moderators were visibly embarrassed, i think at some point hassan agrily disconnected from the chat only to reconnect twenty minutes later with some clearly bs story about technical troubles, it was legit hard to watch. destiny tried and failed to logically support his views and i respect him for that, hassan is an idiot, hes not a midwit, hes legit a moron, and was shown to be one basically from the moment he showed his face to the public, so he went another route, hes an idiot but hes natural large from his boy fucker turk genes, so he decided to be a tough guy and threatened to punch nazis, until one day he released (i cant believe he willingly released it) a video of him hitting a heavy bag, im not fucking cus d’amato over here but it was the worst ive ever seen anyone on a heavy bag in my fucking life, its like he was punching under water or in a dream, and sam basically immediately challenged him to a fight with a 2 million dollar purse, which famously he ducked and hes still ducking it to this day.  this is already a longer post than i wanted it to be, but the point here is sort of along the lines of a point i made a couple days ago about women being able to spread lies and all you can do is call out her champion if she has one, the champion of the left hassan was called out and predictably he bitched out and refuses to even talk about it. but theres something else to, i saw destiny do some incredibly dishonest things in his debates, outright lying about stats and stuff like that, but i never felt compelled to violently threaten destiny because he at least attempts to remain reasonable.

Finally, some Rupert news! Filming of Tiburon starts filming in the spring. Though can’t say I’m excited about the B list cast. I bet RF took the job just to return to South Africa, and maybe he’s playing the bad guy? And... Anthony Hopkins is playing Cus D’Amato officially, but in a film by Nick Cassavetes. DAMMIT!! Rupes must be totally bummed. Our poor baby!
Thanks, Anon. I can’t say I’m super excited about this one, either. Except maybe for the fact that we’ll see a lot of shirtless Rupes since it takes place on a beach.
Paula Patton, Rupert Friend, Zach Braff join shark thriller ‘Tiburon’ (exclusive)
The other news is very sad, indeed. RIP, Cornerman. 😢
Hopkins set to play Mike Tyson''s trainer in biopic

BACKGROUND  .
cordelia  was  born  into  a  tumultuous  and  poor  nyc  family  --  her  dad  a  construction  worker  and  her  mom  a  hair  stylist
and  the  shortage  of  money  didn’t  help  with  her  dad’s  temper  ,  his  fiery  personality  causing  a  lot  of  problems  for  the  d’amatos  since  the  beginning
he  wasn’t  abusive  ,  just  loud  and  commanding  and  scary  ,  and  her  mom  was  more  invested  in  finishing  off  her  wine  bottles  than  parenting  ,  which  led  to  a  very  stressful  household  for  delia  and  her  brother
three  years  older  than  her  ,  delia’s  brother  took  it  upon  himself  to  take  the  brunt  of  their  dad’s  anger  ,  and  with  their  dad’s  attention  taken  away  ,  delia  was  largely  ignored  for  her  childhood
the  only  time  she  and  her  brother  felt  safe  in  their  shabby  little  apartment  was  when  they  were  in  his  room  listening  to  music  .  it  was  his  mission  to  teach  her  all  the  classics  :  metallica  ,  ac/dc  ,  led  zeppelin  ,  pink  floyd  ,  etc  .
her  love  of  music  came  from  her  brother  ,  and  because  of  him  she  learned  how  to  play  the  guitar  ,  drums  ,  piano  ,  and  bass  all  before  she  was  18
her  brother  didn’t  have  the  grades  or  athletic  talent  for  a  scholarship  so  he  went  straight  into  the  work  force  after  graduating  high  school  ,  and  when  he  was  able  to  afford  a  one  bedroom  apartment  ,  little  16  year  old  delia  moved  out  of  her  parent’s  house  and  made  his  couch  her  new  bedroom
delia  also  decided  to  skip  the  college route  and  immediately  got  a  shitty  waitress  job  along  with  an  internship  at  the  radio  station  when  she  was  18
she  moved  into  the  flats  once  she  was  sure  she  could  afford  it  ,  but  she  picked  an  apartment  with  a  roommate  just  because  she  has  never  lived  alone  and  doesn’t  know  how  she  would  handle  it
it  took  a  few  years  and  a  lot  of  perseverance  ,  but  at  the  age  of  21  she  officially  became  a  radio  dj  on  an  alternative  station  and  somehow  managed  to  become  one  of  the  listener's  favorites  ,  probably  because  she  finds  the  most  random  topics  to  rant  about  and  has  no  filter  whatsoever
and  after  every  paycheck  ,  whatever  extra  money  she  has  goes  to  helping  her  brother  get  through  art  school
PERSONALITY .
so  i  know  her  character  inspos  aren’t  the  best  of  people  ,  but  i  promise  delia  isn’t  just  some  mean  bitch  character  ,  she  just  has  some  mean  bitch  qualities
like  she’s  very  blunt  and  pretty  apathetic  at  times  ,  totally  the  type  to  sleep  with  someone’s  bf  and  not  feel  bad  about  it  ,  and  has  definitely  done  some  illegal  stuff  just  because  she  feels  like  it
her  parents  ignored  her  ,  she  acted  out  ,  the  usual
i  hc  that  she  spent  most  of  her  high  school  years  hanging  around  with  the  “  bad  crowd  ”  and  subsequently  learned  how  to  hotwire  cars  and  pickpocket
she’s  also  very  impulsive  and  reckless  --  for  as  smart  as  she  is  ,  she  does  a  lot  of  dumb  shit
unlike  some  of  her  character  inspos  ,  she  isn’t  into  material  shit  and  honestly  wears  the  same  pair  of  jeans  every  day  and  most  of  her  shirts  are  band  t’s  that  are  hand  me  downs  from  her  brother
she  is  very  charming  when  she  wants  to  be  ,  usually  when  she  wants  something  ,  but  she  doesn’t  just  go  around  manipulating  people
she  just  isn’t  a  people  person  so  tbh  she  doesn’t  try  to  be  nice  unless  she  has  to  be
she  believes  that  honesty  is  the  best  policy  ,  even  if  it’s  gonna  hurt  someone’s  feelings  ,  which  is  why  she  is  the  way  that  she  is
but  she’s  a  surprisingly  great  friend  ,  like  she’s  loyal  as  hell  ,  will  definitely  help  you  hide  a  dead  body  ,  and  since  she  doesn’t  care  about  money  she’s  the  type  to  book  an  impromptu  vacation  on  her  dime  and  take  along  her  besties
she’s  100%  not  a  talk  behind  your  back  regina  george  type  of  friend  ,  this  bitch  will  go  to  war  for  the  ppl  she  cares  about
she  does  have  a  temper  but  it’s  one  of  those  things  where  she  doesn’t  show  she’s  pissed  until  you  think  she’s  forgotten  about  it  and  have  your  guard  down  .  like  i  imagine  that  she  was  bullied  by  some  girl  in  high  school  and  then  in  the  yearbook  there  were  pics  of  this  girl  making  out  with  a  teacher  or  smth
she’s  got  a  very  dry  and  sarcastic  sense  of  humor  ,  like  it’s  hard  to  tell  if  she’s  joking  or  if  she’s  being  serious  .  honestly  most  of  the  time  you  should  just  assume  she’s  joking  unless  she’s  actually  mad  or  smth  ,  which  is  also  why  she  seems  like  a  dick  most  of  the  time
so  ...  you  don’t  wanna  be  on  her  bad  side  ig  ??
okay  that’s  all  i’ve  got  !   ik  this  is  crazy  long  and  i’m  super  sorry  for  that  ,  idk  where  all  this  muse  came  from  but  i  am  hella  excited  to  play  this  asshole  ,  idk  what  that  says  about  me  .  😈  also  if  u  don’t  like  messaging  on  tumblr  ,  pls  hit  me  up  on  discord  @ 𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕#6396  !

“Aren’t there enough decorations?” “There’s never enough decorations.” / for willangie if you're still taking prompts!
For you, always!
(Read on AO3)
“Aren’t there enough decorations?” They’d been at this for hours, stringing up lights, hanging wreaths, making sure the blow-up Santa was in the middle of the yard.
(“It has to be dead center Angie, otherwise, what are we doing?” They were decorating for eight-year-olds but what did she know.)
Really, Angie should have known better than to ask but she asked because she was cold and her feet hurt, and who cared if the lights weren’t blinking the pattern he’d spent all year planning.
“There’s never enough decorations.”
Angie would disagree, anyone with eyeballs would disagree. The Christmas spectacle outside of Will’s house matched if not surpassed everyone around him, most people in his neighborhood had settled for a string of lights around their roof with the occasional plastic reindeer in the yard. Leave it to Will to go above and beyond.
“Besides, we still haven’t finished inside, there’s an odd number of wreaths and I don’t like it.” Angie bit back a groan because, for some reason, she was trying to spare Will’s stupid feelings. Will must have sensed it because he peered down at her over the edge of the ladder Angie was holding, “You volunteered, remember?”
“Yeah, Will, I remember.”
She didn’t volunteer. She just wasn’t quick enough to make up a fake emergency as the rest of the group had. Douglass had made up some fake work emergency, as had Poppy, and Miggy had latched onto Poppy. Before she knew it, everyone had taken a step back and Angie was subjected to Will Cooper’s undivided, hopeful attention.
Angie D’Amato had lost her touch. She should have been able to dodge Will and his dumb clipboard in her sleep. But she hadn’t, and now she was the sole recipient of his tense energy, and stern directions. Maybe if she’d still had a boyfriend she could have used him as an excuse. Owen hadn’t lasted past Easter, and Dr. Dewan and Will had fizzled out long before that. She could picture them last year, standing on the sidewalk, hands on chins, carefully studying which layout would work the best. Angie was definitely a downgrade, Will would have been better off working by himself instead of recruiting her.
Whatever.
“Will, let’s go inside, we’ll finish up tomorrow. It’s dark out.”
“Five more minutes.”
“No, you said that fifteen minutes ago. Get down, now.” Gross, she sounded like his mom. “I’m letting go of this ladder, going inside and making some coffee. You can come with or face plant off that roof, I don’t care.” There a death threat to balance things out.
Sighing, Will began his descent, “Coffee does sound good.”
“Duh.”
Angie waited for Will on his doorstep while he put the ladder in his garage. She wouldn’t put it past him to spend another five minutes measuring his yard to figure out where exactly was dead center. Who cared where St. Nick sat? (After the day she’d spent with Will she was over Santa.)
Will didn’t get distracted surprisingly, he was standing next to her wiping his feet on the doormat in seconds.
“C’mon,” She motioned at him to unlock the door, “I’m freezing.”
“Um, Angie…” Will stopped in his pocket-patting, hand frozen over his chest, covering a reindeer on his ridiculous sweater.
“Yeah, you’re from Denver and not cold I get it can we just…” Angie gestured at the door again, annoyed at his insistence on security.
“It’s not that.”
Angie stopped rubbing her hands together. “What?”
Will pointed up, and Angie didn’t need to look to know what he was pointing at, she’d put it there herself.
The one decoration they’d disagreed on.
(“Dude, you need mistletoe.”
“I don’t know.” Will had wavered, “I don’t want to force people to do something they don’t want to.”
“It’s not that serious,” Angie had snatched the mistletoe from Will, and climbed up the ladder, “If people want to kiss they will. If they don’t they won’t.”
Will had wrung his hands but had let her put it up, knowing that she wouldn’t budge.)
“Look, Angie,” Here he stood again wringing his stupid hands like the sentimental schmuck he was, “It’s like you said, we don’t have to if we don’t want to.”
That was the problem, wasn’t it? Angie wanted to, she had wanted to for a while.
It was why she had dropped Graham off with Miggy, endured his teasing, and then made her way over to Will’s when she could have easily claimed a work emergency. Angie had wanted to spend time with Will. She wanted to watch the way he went from laser-focused on a single task to trying to incorporate a million ideas that were nowhere on his stupid clipboard. She wanted to make sure he didn’t hurt himself or pass out from excitement. She wanted to swap stories of past Christmases and plan future ones. She wanted to pretend she didn’t notice the way he smiled at her when he thought she wasn’t looking, and the way his smile would widen when he saw her looking back.
She wanted him.
“Angie,” Will took a step closer, but that step wasn’t imposing or demanding, it was one of comfort because at the heart of it all Will cared for Angie mistletoe or not. He was Will Cooper, and if his friend was silent while they contemplated kissing him, he would try and make sure they were okay. “We don’t have to.”
“I want to.”
“What?”
“I want to.” She repeated, the air around her was somehow warmer than it had been moments ago. “I want to kiss you.”
“Oh…”
Oh, as is in oh shit, Angie had just messed up.
“Okay!” Angie didn’t know where to look, “I’ll just be going now, promised Miggy I’d pick Graham up at 8.” Except Graham was sleeping over and they both knew it.
“Angie!” She shrugged off his half-hearted attempt to stop her.
“It’s fine, Will.” Focusing on the tree on his sweater, Angie took a step back. “I’ll see you around.”
“No.” This time she couldn’t shrug him off, he held on steadfastly, not hurting her, but refusing to let her go. “You can run from Owen, and Max, and Jake. But you’re not running from me, or yourself. I’m not going to let you.”
“I don’t–”
“You do,” Will disagreed. “You run far and fast, either to me or Poppy. So before you go interrupt Poppy’s fake plans you’re going to stand here and listen to me.” Once Angie agreed not to bolt, Will let her go. “You didn’t even let me process, Ange. Don’t you think I’m allowed to be surprised when finally, in your own roundabout way, you admit you like me?” Will ran a hand through his windblown hair, “God Angie, it’s been almost a damn year and you haven’t figured out I like you, and that, of course, I want to kiss you.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh.”
“I’m not good at this kind of stuff.” She never had been, she was constantly missing cues where others saw and acted on them. Even with her horrible social skills, it was hard to miss this one.
He kisses her.
A first kiss that’s been at least six months in the making. Every jab, conversation between drop-offs, and encouraging word has led to this moment and it’s better than Angie thought it would be. His warmth draws her closer, his body as solid as she remembers from all the times they’ve pulled each other close, initiating the other into whatever they needed help with. He kisses her the way she thought he would, firm but yielding, two traits she’d learned to associate with Will. He was a dork, but one of those dorks that no matter how hard you tried, you ended up befriending and falling a tiny bit in love with them.
Angie broke away, damn him.
“You look happy,” Will smiled down at her, and she blinked up at him his words sinking because yeah, she was scared but she was happy. Accidental upgrade level happy.
“I am.”

Anthony Hopkins Will Play Mike Tyson's Trainer Cus D’Amato in CUS AND MIKE
Tumblr media
Anthony Hopkins is set to star in a new boxing film project titled Cus And Mike. Hopkins will be taking on the role of Mike Tyson’s legendary trainer Cus D’Amato, and the story will follow how he “molded the fighter into becoming the youngest heavyweight title winner ever and one of the most ferocious boxers of his generation.”
The film is said to be a character study as well as a sports-biopic based on the book Mike Tyson: Money, Myth, and Betrayal by Montieth Illingworth. It will be written and directed by The Notebook and John Q filmmaker Nick Cassavetes. In a statement, he said:
“This is an absolute dream scenario for me. An opportunity to work with Sir Anthony in a movie about two of my all-time heroes, Cus D’Amato and Mike Tyson, the most ferocious (and my favorite) fighter who ever lived? In a story about father figures that disappear too soon? I’m in heaven. So happy that my first film with Mike Mendelsohn and Patriot Pictures is this one. It should be one for the ages…”
According to the report, the film will “chart how the tough but brilliant D’Amato became a father-figure to the wayward adolescent Tyson who would go on to become the revered fighter and then a figure of controversy.” D’Amato passed away in 1985, and he also trained Floyd Patterson and José Torres.
A few actors and directors have tried to get this project off the ground over the years including Martin Scorsese, Jamie Foxx, and Bruce Willis. This will be a great role for Hopkins to play. It’s pretty cool that they were able to get him for the role.
XYZ Films and Patriot Patriot Pictures are producing the film and they are aiming to shoot in spring/summer 2020.

Anthony Hopkins To Star As Mike Tyson’s Trainer In New Biopic From Director Nick Cassavetes
Regardless of the talent attached to a biopic about Mike Tyson, the boxer’s story alone is going to be worth the price of admission. However, when you add Anthony Hopkins to the mix, then suddenly, the film “Cus and Mike” shoots to near the top of our most-anticipated list.
According to Deadline, Anthony Hopkins has been signed on to star in the upcoming Mike Tyson biopic titled “Cus and Mike.” The film, directed by Nick Cassavetes, tells the story of Cus D’Amato (Hopkins), Tyson’s trainer who molded the young man into the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history.

A few weeks back, we wrote about a New York Times article from 1987 that detailed how dysfunction in the Queens Republican Party was destroying the GOP’s influence in the borough. We noted the article could have easily been printed in 2020.
That inspired longtime reader Larry Penner to detail the long demise of the Queens GOP, from the days when it routinely backed winning candidates and won political seats, to today, when the Queens GOP only has one elected official holding office in Councilman Eric Ulrich, who will be term-limited out of office next year.
This week, Penner decided to tackle the Kings County Republican Party’s own slow downfall:
With the loss of Republican State Senator Marty Golden and Congressman Dan Donovan in the 2018 general election, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis became the last Republican elected official in Kings County.
By declining to run for reelection and instead run for Congress in 2020, the odds are she will be the last Republican to hold elected office in Brooklyn.
Her district’s demographics and enrollment numbers continue to change, favoring a Democrat.
The next 2022 reapportionment based upon the 2020 census with just minor tweaking of the district boundaries could easily make this a safe Democratic seat. There are plenty of registered Democrats in neighboring districts who could easily be added to the seat.
The same holds true for Congressman Max Rose’s seat. Dreams of former GOP State Senator Marty Golden reclaiming his old seat, which overlaps with Malliotakis’ district, are wishful thinking.
The last Republican borough president, who also ran on the Fusion Party line, was Lewis H. Pounds, who served from 1913-1917.
The last GOP district attorney was George J. Beldock who served on an interim basis from August 10, 1945 to December 27, 1945. He was appointed to the position by fellow Republican Governor Thomas E. Dewey.
Based upon the recent election results and Board of Elections registration figures, Brooklyn continues to be a permanent Democratic Party bastion. There are a total of 1,461,103 registered voters, and over 1 million of them identify as Democrats. The numbers make Republicans irrelevant in virtually all contests for public office.
Crossover Democrats who voted for former presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush in the 1980s, former senator Alfonse D’Amato, former governor George Pataki, and former mayor Rudy Guiliani and Michael Bloomberg continue to move out of town, retire out of state, or succumb to old age.
There are no successful GOP outreach efforts to new Caribbean, Hispanic, Asian, or other immigrant groups or middle-class African Americans.
Once the GOP loses any incumbent, they are never able to reclaim the district.
Kings County Republicans haven’t offered Democrats serious competition for public office at the city, state or federal level in years, with the exception of Bay Ridge.
Despite overwhelming Democratic Party enrollment in Kings County, creative gerrymandering by the GOP-controlled State Senate over five decades continued to preserve the Bay Ridge seat Marty Golden lost.
Previously, it was held for three other Republican in Bill Conklin, Chris Mega, and Bob DiCarlo.
After the 1982 reapportionment, Democrats eliminated the districts of Brooklyn GOP Assembly members Vincent Riccio (51st), Florence Sullivan (50th), and Chris Mega (49th).
The last GOP City Council members elected from Kings County were Minority Leader Angelo Arculeo, who served from 1962-1982, and Martin Golden, who won the seat back one last time, serving from 1998-2002.
For decades, party leadership has given up running real candidates with proper financing to challenge Democratic incumbents. They prefer living off political patronage crumbs from the Kings County Democrats in exchange for taking a dive.
In Kings County, running as a Democrat or winning any Democratic Party primary is a sure bet to winning any general election.

And he kept that child’s secret who begged him not to tell her Moms how she really got injured (burned by UV light, which she’s allergic to). This was meant to be a throwaway account, but I’m tempted to keep it around to keep up with my favourite ships (and share some of own fanfic works). Let the games begin! PS I will be shamelessly putting all my favourite ships in the tags. It is what it is 🤷🏾‍♀️🤣
