I would protect Nikuko's smile with my life; an amazing woman with a lot of love and energy and BELLY! She's so lovable in spite of everything and it was great seeing her Kikuko come to terms with recognizing where her family really lies. On top of that, it's a good, comfy film of Kikuko not just figuring herself out but not letting fears of the past get to her, both figuratively and literally. I'm speaking as the child of a single mother, but I resonated with our stoic protagonist's dilemma in feeling some sense of comfort in the twilight of her childhood while trying to understand Nikuko's perspective. Needless to say, I adored this movie and I love my mama.

been binge watching a lot of anime movies lately, so far i've seen a whisker away, fortune favors lady nikuko, and a silent voice. can't say i have a particular favorite out of these three, they're all fairly good. the one that made me cry the most was definitely lady nikuko, that sequence that happens in the third act, i still think about. the premise of a whisker away is very charming, and i love the main girl muge, though the second act of it didn't really hold my attention as much. a silent voice, while i enjoyed, i just couldn't get much into. anyway if i had to recommend any from this particular 3 it would def be fortune favors lady nikuko, has great comedic elements and a very down to earth story, not to mention the animation ands sets and scenes are absolutely stellar. will be watching weathering with you, the girl who leapt through time, and belle very soon.
