@witchernjal location: where does Njal live notes: what can I say except you're welcome
Njal the champion, Kalamar liked the sound of that. The other had been rude and he'd pushed his luck to the point where it had bordered on being offensive, but Njal had come through in the end. The roar of the crowd, the praise of his peers, and the favor he'd earned did wonders for the witcher's ego. Kalamar was perceptive enough to see it, while Njal had made an offer, the devil had yet to take him up on it. He was a demon, and sex was so- uninspired. At least try to kill him first, was courtship really dead?
With all the grace of an eldritch terror, Kalamar slipped from the chair where he'd been lounging, to the bed that Njal inhabited. "You can afford a better one now," Kalamar commented as he gave it a few tests, bumping up and down while his tentacles receded back into his frame. "you're a winner, baby." He praised, "We really do make an excellent team." Kalamar inspected his nails at the comment, still playing over the image of Njal and Elokian battling it out for supremacy, all that was missing was full penetration. "What do you want for dinner?"

"First and only, then." Diarmad reached between the mattress and pulled out the dagger he'd stashed there previously, naturally he liked Njal, but safety first. With it, he put his back to Njal as he worked, carving runic letters directly into the wall.
Of His many agents, Diarmad was alone in his belief. The only way to end suffering was to truly end suffering, no more little boys being beaten and poisoned so they might get the privilege of dying a few years later. No more druids wandering into the Arches never to return. No more wars. No more death. So long as the Wheel continued to turn the world would be reborn to fight and suffer through another lifetime. Another lifetime of tragedy, another lifetime of loss. Diarmad had met his capacity for pain across his reincarnations.
"I have a habit of asking questions," Diarmad spoke against the wood grain of the cabin, his smile light and shared only between the two of them. Guilty as ever, in most cases it was his subtle way of poking fun at those who gladly answered - assumptions were always made, so having people clarify their ineptitude was always a point of amusement to the genasi. This, however, was a genuine curiosity because, against his better judgment, he'd attached himself to someone. Diarmad made deals and used people without a second thought, so long as the terms were fair then the genasi had no qualms with violence - unnecessary or not. Njal was afraid, but the witcher wasn't the sort to accept being told as much flat out.
In perfect shape and in neat, Iskaran variant, Diarmad carved out 'Champion,' into one of the walls before he stepped back into Njal's orbit, knife still held gingerly between his hands. Diarmad would always prefer to employ his magic but he understood the principle of how a blade worked and drawn many an edge across many a throat in his time.
"In the end, you and that woman we fought were on even ground." That was at the heart of the point that Diarmad was making. "You're strong." Diarmad wouldn't acquaint Njal's skill with being a witcher, it clearly played into it but there was a darkness there - a hunger - that set him apart. "Stronger than anyone I've ever met." Memories of violence flashed before Diarmad's mind's eye as he considered the years that had passed, "I've killed more people than I have lived years, melted their flesh, and slept soundly to the ambient sounds of their withered screams - but had you not been there she'd either have killed us all, or I'd still be wandering the Abyss while the others died in my place." His fingers walked up Njal's arm, stopping short at his collarbone. "I'm not disappointed, I'm intrigued." For clarification purposes, Diarmad felt the need to translate for the sake of Njal's crass tongue, "I don't bed disappointments."
Diarmad tapped lightly at Njal's warm skin, idly imagining what it'd be like to crawl around within. "I have one more question." He had hundreds and the patience to accompany each, but he could only imagine that Njal's was wearing thin.
There was no point in making a place a home. Not in his eyes anyway. Everywhere he had lived had been bare. Njal didn't have any photos to put up on the walls or trinkets that had been given to him by others. Everything he had could be carried in one bag. Even as Diarmad listed off the reasons why he should have things on his walls or in his home, he still couldn't figure out why he would ever do such a thing. Trophies? He barely had those. The only time he had actually won something was when he had gotten to Lysara and did that diving course. Before then, he couldn't say he had ever won at anything in his life. Perhaps Lysara was where he was supposed to be. Then again, he couldn't picture himself here for long. Iskaldrik was his home. No matter how out of place or bare it felt.
"You'd be the only one to do so," was all he said in response. If Diarmad wanted to place things on the walls, then he could. Njal probably never would. He'd always have to keep on moving no matter where he decided to settle for the time being. There was no rest for a witcher. He looked on as the whisper stone was grabbed from him, the other's lips pressing towards it. They were already standing close so there was no real need to use it, but Njal entertained it anyway. The other half of the pair was in his hand so he lifted it to his lips. "If I wanted you to leave, you wouldn't be here," he whispered and then dropped his hand to his side.
Njal had almost started walking when he was asked a question. It caused him to stop, gaze nowhere near Diarmad's own. The truth was right there on the tip of his tongue, but it was one he never truly dared to say out loud. How many times had he told Torsten to die second? Their friendship was nowhere near what it had been, but the witcher still hoped that the somewhat promise still applied. Perhaps Njal was both terrified of and craving death. The only reason it was the former was because he hadn't truly started living his life for himself until now. The latter was simply because it was a witcher's fate to die young. He sighed and looked at Diarmad. "I don't intentionally hide my strength from anyone." Didn't he always have something to prove? Well, that was what he thought at least. "Why are you asking? Are you disappointed? I did my fucking job, didn't I?" None of what he said was laced with anger. It was more curiosity than anything else.

Ran Mistburned Barrens 62 times with a promise to my characters that I'll draw each one of them that yields me a BL key. Convinced less of them that I hoped... Not even 25% drop rate, might cry lmao For the amount of humans I have, surprisingly only 1 heard my plea...
In order: Arval + Faaid (who is a bonus since he's not a character in game), Kerrian, Mesalis + Balfour, Ferross + Visakari, Narhorn, Njal, Roane, Kerrian + Nisai (yes, I have 2 instances of Kerrian, so what, good boy gave me a key twice), Aurelio, Rargak

@witchernjal location: Somewhere in the Wildlands notes: meetcute
An arrow zipped through the air and pierced through the skull of the darkspawn, blighted gray matter and skull fragments erupted from the creature's head as the barbed tip struck with enough force to break through the solid bone. Diarmad was sworn to the Dark, but there were many paths to walk through the night - and these beasts were little more than fodder for something greater.
"I bid the mycelial webs, the silent architects of dissolution. Wend, knit, and knot, through your flesh, your bone, your sinew." The spores sunk their way into the darkspawn's body, growing from the point where Diarmad's arrow connected. "Spores that sleep within the shadows, seed and transform, awaken to my will and my command: germinate, propagate, colonize. Let my garden take root, let my decay be your rot - sweet, twisted glory."
From the place where the darkspawn fell, fungi began to spring out, there was a guttural snap of bone as the neck jutted upward, its frame twisted violently in place as the bits of loose skin were knit together with spores and other fauna that grew over it. The darkspawn's head split open as it bloomed into a rotted, fungal version of its already blighted self.
An affectionate hand came across the darkspawn's chittering face, "My sentinel- join your kin." Diarmad dismissed as the creature retreated into the fog before the genasi turned his attention to the tposing Iskaran.
"I had to steal your kill," less an apology and more a statement of fact, "your antimagic would've prevented my spores from taking root had you landed the killing blow. If a debt is owed then name your price."

who?: @witchernjal where?: tiber bay when?: before he ships out to aventia oop. pirates don't go to war they just pillage and plunder the homes of those who go to war hehe
On any other day, ships rising from beneath the depths of Tiber Bay would’ve likely been met with a stronger response once the initial shock of his ships wrapped in his forcefields breaking through the water's surface wore off. Elokian boasted the largest vessels on the Veiled Seas which warranted an aggressive response, but the welcome his crew got wasn’t nearly aggressive enough. The attack was well timed, a result of his careful waiting and keen eye trained on Lysara. As soon as the airships deployed west, he knew the raiders of Neptune’s Fleet could have their way with the capital.
Between the individual power of his crew members and Theneras’ new toys launching volley after volley of artillery from his flagship, Neptune’s Fleet laid waste to structures lining Tiber Bay as they plundered wide and far. Their violence was indiscriminate, and with their Captain handling the response of what meager forces the Tower could muster after sending their best away, he knew they’d sail away significantly richer with all their restless energy finally expended. Elokian himself wasn’t concerned at all about stealing treasure, enjoying his takedown of Olympians and queensguard as they scrambled to respond to this surprise attack.
There he was, firing off field after field, fisting his way through armor and weave alike when suddenly as he grappled a witch to the ground he saw a pair of eyes looking at him from the shadows. “Aye, this isn’t a spectator sport. I’m not a show pony, like you,” he says before grunting a few more times as he twists the head-locked witch’s neck to the point of snapping. As he stood, he spit some blood onto the ground and pulled his gourd from his waistband, chugging the high-proof shipwine inside down. Elokian only got better in a brawl when he drank, but no level of stupor would dull his senses. Njal could hide, but Elokian was quite attuned to him due to a little crush. However, it was majorly disappointing to see him return to Lysara’s gladiator arenas after the game they enjoyed together during Neptunalia. Or at least, Elokian enjoyed himself. “Seeing you controlled for entertainment like a beast on a leash … was surprising. From one king’s bitch to another, and for mere pocket change too. Guess it’s my fault for thinking there was more to you than that, but to each their own, I suppose.”

going to be using "#spore pins" to tag posts about the pin project, for blacklisting/following purposes
trans rights beast is most requested so far, followed by spenis and handspider, but i got a couple others cooking in my little brain
here's some previews for design drafts
i'm running with a mix of ideas, mostly hard enamel for the simpler designs and various platings and plating colors. more complex designs, or designs with anodized metal/glitter will be required to be soft enamel. i will try to work with that limitation and make them look nice that way.
all pin platings will be nickel-free because nickel allergies are no fun.
i might make the spenis design glow in the dark, because a running glowing penis would be very funny.
once i get a bunch of designs drafted i will pit them against each other in a poll, because only one or two will make it to production. if it's particularly successful i might do a round 2 with the runner ups.
also, for any worries for usage with the anon pin, the njal font [which is used in the pin] is free for commercial use.
#not spore#spore pins#art#excited to get back to actual spores but#this lil project has given me motivation to actually draw and design stuff#for the first time in a while#so i'll take it. if y'all want to see actual spores feel free to blacklist the ''spore pins'' tag

Who: @witchernjal Where: Eterna/Near the Colosseum When: Progress Day 1 or 2 Notes: Let me know if you need changes! Happy if this is the big match he'd be fighting in or a lesser match they can watch together.
With the arrival of Progress Day came what seemed to be highly anticipated yearly events. Of course, each of these was new to Freydis, but it was obvious based on the chatter and movement of the crowds which were more popular than others. The gladiator match was one that held particular favor amongst Lysarans, and though Freydis had some hesitations surrounding the manner in which some gladiators were forged, she knew two in particular who held her favor and support. She took to the streets some time before the match in search of Njal, either to wish him luck or to see if he needed someone to sit with as a spectator–she hadn’t learned much about who would be in the ring. Freydis supposed she’d find out when she managed to track the witcher down.
“There you are,” she mumbled to herself when she finally managed to spot him not far from the arena. Freydis picked up her pace slightly to ensure she wouldn’t lose him in the crowd before calling out to him to get his attention. “Are you in the arena today?” When she first learned of his interest in being a gladiator, it surprised her. Then, she thought about it for an entire three seconds and realized it was a relatively ideal career path given his personality and how much he enjoyed a brawl. If he was to fight that day, she would understand if his time was scarce, and she’d respect it, but there was plenty for the two to catch up on whether this was the time or it needed to wait.

Festive mood in Hoelbrak
Muru ( @anubim ) and Stineag (mine) are really close friends. With both of their cheerful natures combined they can easly become the life of any party!
This drawing is a few months old now. Originally I planned to draw a bit more above it, like a really short comic, that’s why I didn’t draw a ceiling but I lost all motivation and thought “Let me at least slap some colours on it”. However, you still get to see both versions :D

what kind of books do you like reading?
My favorite era is 19th century Russian literature. Some of my favorites from there are Dead Souls by Gogol, Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev, Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin, and Oblomov by Ivan Goncharov (I was utterly baffled as to why everyone was talking about Ivan Goncharov when I came back to Tumblr!). I loved a lot of early 20th century American literature, in particular F. Scott Fitzgerald, who was an early hero, and I also read a lot of Joseph Heller and Vladimir Nabokov (Russian/American). I've read everything by Franz Kafka—even the bizarre stuff, like Amerika—and loved it all. My favorite writer of all time is Virginia Woolf, and I love reading writers who experiment with style (Lewis Carroll, of all people, has a nice early example of stream of consciousness with Sylvie and Bruno). I think the best piece of writing I've ever seen from America is Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison.
I've also read and enjoyed some stuff from the 16th-18th centuries (in particular, Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, Edmund Spencer's The Faerie Queene, and John Milton's Paradise Lost), but a lot more that's a lot older. Giovanni Boccaccio's The Decameron is a great collection of tales like The Canterbury Tales, but better (note: I haven't yet read 1,001 Nights. Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur was a lot of fun. I slowed down a lot about eight years ago). I even love the fake ones that are tales within tales like Jan Potocki's The Manuscript Found at Saragossa. But I love chasing down and reading older works, like sagas and epics. Some of my favorites are The Nibelungenlied, The Kalevala, Njal's Saga, and The Epic of Sundiata. Gilgamesh is absolutely incredible. I've read some clunkers, though, like The Song of Roland, which I found dry, dull, and short.
As my reading slowed, I liked to read books aimed at young readers. Growing up, I loved the Oz books, which I find to be an utterly fascinating example of uniquely American (and non-European) fantasy. We have that and Little Nemo, but most other fantasy you get (outside of modern times) is distinctly European, and owes more to Lord Dunsany and Tolkien than anyone else. I loved The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear, which I just finished ready to my daughter (Walter Moers). Michael Ende's The Neverending Story is probably the best book for young readers I've read. And then there's the Moomin books by Tove Jansson... What a find those were! Written for kids, but so unbelievably melancholic and subtle! Every page is packed with so much loneliness and longing! I couldn't even believe what I'd read after reading Tales from Moomin Valley. "The Fillyjonk who Believed in Disasters" is something I think every adult should read. It reminds me a bit of The Magic Mountain (see below) in how subtly it captures a character or series of character traits that are quite natural and recognizable, but so hard to pin down! Tove Jansson was brilliant.
For utter, nonsensical, bizarre, indulgent, and absurd escapism, I read E. T. A. Hoffmann. It's hard to even describe how ridiculous his stuff is. Like...you read this stuff, and are saying, "You can't DO that! You'd be laughed off AO3 for that!" And yet he does. And he doesn't care. He had an audience of one, and that was himself. I have no idea how his works are even remembered. Utterly bizarre.
That captures a lot of it. Here are some that don't fit elsewhere:
The Buru Quartet by Pramoedya Ananta Toer (masterful)
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller (wrecked me)
Moby Dick by Herman Melville (tore through it!)
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (this one, too! Thick book, but such a quick and joyful read—and written with such exquisite detail!)
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (one of the best of the 19th century)
The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann (so subtle... Let me tell you, this is a long book, and like, it's 90% over, and suddenly this new character is introduced, and it's like, "What even is this…?", and yet, somehow, he takes like 50 pages, and you suddenly care about this guy... Astonishing)
The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton (tour de force; her best, in my opinion)
Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut (his best that I've read, and the one I'd recommend to everyone)
Forest of a Thousand Daemons by D. O. Fagunwa (terrible translation, but so wonderfully inventive!)
Black Elk Speaks (I want to mention this, because I really loved it, but it has a problematic history, so fyi)
True Grit by Charles Portis (one of the most beautiful short novels I've ever read; the Cohen Bros. adaptation is actually very, very close to it)
The Awakening by Kate Chopin (what a smack in the face that one is!)
The Tempest by Shakespeare (my favorite of his)
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass (best written work from America in the 19th century)
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin (by contrast, one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read in my life; HILARIOUS)
Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en (read the whole thing, and...wow. lol So much repetition with humor throughout capped off by brilliance)
The Bostonians by Henry James (the best demonstration of exactly what he aimed to do: produce an ending that has two equally plausible and utterly opposite interpretations that can both be supported textually)
Nohow On by Samuel Beckett (the culmination of his work, and a worthy one)
Three Tales by Gustave Flaubert (I bawled—loudly—after reading "A Simple Heart"; I couldn't help it)
Thanks for asking this! It's been so long since I've really read... It's nice to remember. I wanted to read the Studs Lonigan trilogy for ages now... Oh, and I went through a Gabriel García Márquez phase! And Tom Robbins! And, of course, I've read all the wonderful comic novels by my friend Nina Post, whose wit astounds me.
Okay, now I'm just not getting to sleep. But this is some of what I've read that I've loved. Also, for certain things, I've read a lot (like 19th century Russian literature and Samuel Beckett), so I can tell you what not to read. For example, A Hero of Our Time by Lermontov? Pass. Same with The Golovlovs by Saltykov-Shchedrin. You can probably pass on War and Peace, as well, due to its girth, but you're going to miss some good stuff (amidst a lot of dry stuff).
Okay, hitting the button now! I'm done.
(Oh, but if you were assigned Their Eyes Were Watching God and kind of passed on it because it was a "school book", that was a mistake!!!)
(Oh, Cane by Jean Toomer!)
(Oh, and if you want a short one that has a "wah-wah!" ending, check out As I Lay Dying by Faulkner! lol That rascal...)
(OH! And the "school book" thing? Hard ditto on Of Mice and Men. Holy shit, that book... Wow.)
(OMG BABBIT!!!!! I loved it!!! Pass on Main Street, though.)
(Oh, and John Updike can miss me with his Rabbit stuff... YIKES!)
(Oh, and if you like Woody Allen's style but not Woody Allen, try Portnoy's Complaint.)
(Last one: Jasmine by my short fiction professor Bharati Mukherjee, who sadly passed away far too soon. On the last day of class, she'd forgotten she was going to have us read Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky. As we were walking out the door, she made us promise to read it. I never saw her again, but I did, Ms. Mukherjee, and it was tremendous. Thank you so much for what you gave me. I had so much trouble showing my work to other people before that class. You helped me so much, and I wish I could've told you. You may think those who have influenced you will be around forever for you to thank one day, but they're not. Today's the day. Tell them what they meant to you. You'll regret it if you don't.)

Memories of that night would be etched into Torsten's memory for the rest of his days. That Aetherian swordswoman; he'd expected the magi to be powerful from the stories, but of those that the Kingsguard had felled while leaving Yggdrasildal, none compared to her. Njal offered his advice, and only because he loved taunting the other almost as much as he loved to fight, he made an idle remark. "Train the other it is." Torsten looked off in the distance, a smile cracking at the corner of his lips, he nudged his only oldest friend and then stood. "Come on, let's get back to it."
Prosthetic arm and leg. Yeah, he didn’t want to think about how they had lost that fight. It had been more of a problem for Torsten than anyone else though. Now the Kingsguard had to figure out a way to be better. If that was even possible considering his dear friend was pretty damn capable still. He wasn’t going to say it out loud again though. The last thing he needed was to give the other an ego. Njal had enough of that for the both of them usually. As much as he thought he was second best, he was still second best. That was better than being nothing like most of these pathetic people around. “You’re better off replacing it. Show that fucker you’re better than them next time.”

GX Month Week 2, Prompt: Soulmates
THIS TOOK ME FVE DAYS BUT IT EXITS. I didn't even bother with full lines, I just colored the sketch. I'll clean it up and add shading later.
Soulmate prompt really grabbed me like "YOU WILL ART NOW YOU WILL MORE ART THAN YOU HAVE EVER ARTED IT WILL BE A MASTERPIECE". Not sure I'm entirely happy with it but oh well.
From the top:
Hersha and Tre, the first life, the prince and his knight.
Jahl and Yoshua, the battle between the first Supreme King and the King of Light.
Njal and Rune, the one left waiting for the one who never came back.
And of course our loveable idiots obliviously playing cards.
