Two headlines which help explain the victory of Poland's pro-democracy opposition in Sunday's election...
Opozycja zmobilizowała niegłosujących. Na PiS głosował żelazny elektorat (The opposition mobilized non-voters. An iron electorate voted for PiS)
Stats are preliminary, but voter turnout was around 73% in Sunday's parliamentary election – a post-Communist high. The opposition got out the vote – big time. As many as 31% of the eligible voters who did not vote in the 2019 election voted in this one. Meanwhile, the ruling party whose acronym is PiS tightly held on to its own voters; it wasn't enough for them. 87% of PiS voters had voted in 2019.

Of the five party groupings which won seats in the Sejm, PiS came in fifth among voters under 30. Donald Tusk's Koalicja Obywatelska (KO) came in first and Lewnica came in second. The rigid socially conservative agenda of PiS was regarded as repulsive by many young people in Poland.
But wait, there's more!
One aspect of the youth vote which the second TVN24 article did not emphasize is that women were particularly important in the turnout. This is from a DW article about the defeat of PiS.
High turnout thanks to young and female voters
Observers say young and female voters, motivated by the issue of abortion rights — which the ruling PiS has sought to curtail and Donald Tusk has promised to liberalize — turned out in large numbers to support opposition parties. "Until recently, half of women said they would not vote," sociologist Justyna Kajta of SWPS University in Warsaw told AFP news agency. "Now these exit polls actually show more women than men voted."
From "half of women said they would not vote" to "more women than men voted" shows how decisive increased involvement by women, especially younger women, can be.
During the 2020 demonstrations against the extremist anti-abortion law authored by PiS I saw a sign which this election reminded me of. It displayed a fundamental truth as well as a great bilingual political pun based on a classic song by Bob Marley.

The word kraj is pronounced like the English word cry. In Polish, kraj means country though in certain contexts it tends to refer to Poland in particular. For language nerds, you may recognize it as coming from the same Slavic root as Ukraine (Ukraina as written in Polish).
For a well-functioning country, you need active participation by women in the political process. That happened this week in Poland. ❤️🇵🇱
So massive GOTV and appealing to forward-looking young people had a considerable impact in Poland. Those are lessons which should not be overlooked by center-left parties and coalitions in other countries.
BTW, a second exit poll was released for Sunday's election. It showed the current opposition with 249 seats in the Sejm; that's one more than the earlier poll. But the official results should be available by the middle of the week.

I want to make a comic for Jarad the way did for Garruk, my two favourite MtG characters that just get constantly misused, and in Jarads case just killed off.
Going from a hero of Ravnica who worked with Agrus Kos and Teysa Karlov to fight the machinations of Grand Arbiter Agustin IV, Momir Vig with Experiment Kraj, and Lyzolda and the cult of Rakdos.
A man who went from having a relationship and a child with a woman from another guild, and whose child he loved so deeply that he was able to bring HIMSELF back from the dead to save him.
For that man to be reduced to a xenophobic isolationist, who hated the people of his own guild as much as he hated "outsiders" with no explanation given. You can't read the Ravnica novels on the mothership, so their canon may as well not exist.
Agrus and Teysa get to stay beloved and still appear in sets. Jarad gets turned to a statue while hiding in a secret room.

How forcing women to wear skirts and dresses can be used to control them as well as gender nonconforming people

//In March, a federal judge struck down a rule at a North Carolina charter school that prohibited girls at the school from wearing pants. It required them instead to wear skirts, skorts, or jumpers. The school had argued that the dress code promoted “traditional values.”//
Some researchers point to the way nomad horse riding people found wearing pants much more practical than skirts and dresses. Among some of these people, like the Scythians, women had many of the same roles as men, riding included. For the ancient Greeks women wearing pants therefore became a symbol of the kind of female equality they, the Greek men, could not accept.
If "traditional values" are those of the distant past, it will be hard to defend a global ban on women's trousers, however. The shift started more than a hundred years ago.

Around the turn of the 20th century, though, something else was happening that would change how Americans and Europeans dressed. Formality’s grip on fashion was weakening, and sportswear was beginning to find a place in the everyday wardrobe. Ease of movement was starting to become a priority. In the 1910s, a young designer named Coco Chanel helped to spur this shift with her popular, sporty clothes; through the latter half of the 1920s, she also helped bring menswear staples into women’s wardrobes, including tailored jackets and trousers. While she wasn’t the only designer showing pants for women, her influence was strong.
So women wearing pants/trousers is a sign of female liberation and an increasing equality between the genders. The prejudice against women is still there, though. Sure, women wear pants all the time, but a man wearing a skirt or a dress is still ridiculed, even if those can be practical and beautiful garments under certain circumstances as well. This is because women are still one step below men in the hierarchy of things. For a woman to dress as a man is to take one step up the ladder. For a man to dress as a woman is to take several steps down.

The island kingdom of Kraj hosts a jungle within its borders, and deep within the heart of this jungle lies a temple. It's said that whomever reaches the temple can request a vision of the future from the oracle within.
The oracle itself is a chimera; the body and mane of a lion, the head of a bear and claws razor sharp. The oracle speaks with the voice of a woman. It can see the future, and will bestow visions of that future upon those it deems worthy, but to be deemed worthy one must first pass three trials: best the jungle to reach the temple, survive three nights within the temple itself and answer a riddle from the oracle.

!!!! Monday is the fifth protest against the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal, which prohibits data interruption in the event of severe damage to the fetus or its incurable disease. The ruling means a de facto ban on abortion, as well as a premise - considered by the right-wing community to be. "Eugenic premise", language translation over 90 percent such treatments performed so far in Poland. !!!!

     ,, Pesme Dorsa su kosmolike i drevne. Zvuče kao karnevalska muzika. Kad se završe nastaje trenutak tišine. Nešto novo ušlo je u prostoriju”.

     ,, Dorsi su pravili album kakav je Džim želeo, a ne ono što se očekivalo. Dorsi su po Džimu bili bluz bend, a ne pop grupa“.

    Gramofonska igla klizi vinilom. Čvrsta, zgusnuta struktura poslednjeg albuma legendarnog američkog benda ,,The Doors” naprosto izbija iz rilni gramofonske ploče, uvodeći me hard-rock-blues tonovima u poetski svet Džima Morisona, granična područja mogućeg i bolno proživljenog. Vrata neobičnog sveta Dorsa otvaraju se preda mnom, odvodeći me tokovima jednog burno proživljenog života na kraj noći, tamo gde prestaju strah i fine laži.
  Ogoljena lirika, prožeta snažnim emotivnim nabojem, underground slikama Los Anđelesa i unutarnjim lomovima Morisona- jahača na oluji i razočaranog buntovnika na obroncima lagane kapitulacije, prelama se kroz surovošću nabijene tonove ovog vanvremenskog albuma...

                                     da trampim bisere za zlatni krčag
                                    u L Ameriku!
                                    Hajde, narode, ne gledaj me tako pokislo

     Godine autodestrukcije i života na ivici, s jedne strane, te stalnog muzičkog napretka benda i kreativnog uspona Morisona kao poete i umetnika, s druge strane, doneli su svoj autentični plod- album L.A Woman, 1971.godine, nešto tako bolno iskreno, kreativno i nadahnuto, otrgnuto iz prolaznosti vremena i postavljeno kao temelj muzičkog pokreta i izraza jednog vremena. Svedočanstvo koje kroz vreme postoji samo za sebe i govori o jednom neobičnom životu, buntu i poetici nedosanjanog. Album je sniman i miksan u periodu od novembra 1970. godine do februara 1971. godine ( mada je gotovo sve bilo završeno za samo dve nedelja rada u studiju). Nakon početnog haosa i depresije, vezane pre svega za činjenicu da je Morison sve više gubio interesovanje za dalji rad sa bendom( u kandžama industrije i vlasti koja ih je proganjala kao potencijalnu opasnost za sistem, naročito posle incidenta na koncertu u Majamiju 1. marta 1969.) i lagano tonuo ka konačnoj autodestruktivnoj ,, kapitulaciji“, te odlaska dotadašnjeg producenta Rotčajlda, rad na poslednjem ,, The Doors“ albumu počeo je pod nadzorom producenta Brusa Botnika, dotadašnjeg saradnika Pola Rotčajlda. U improvizovanom ,, The Doors workshop“ studiju u Los Anđelesu krenula je jedinstvena bluz priča, labudova pesma i jedan od najboljih albuma svih vremena - ,, vrisak leptira“ Džima Morisona. Bend su zvučno upotpunili i kvalitetom uzdigli na još viši nivo( čistokrvnog ritam i bluz dodira) bas gitarista Jerry Scheff( ex Elvis Presley bend) i teksaški ritam gitarista Marc Benno, vrativši bend i njihovu jedinstvenu muziku bluz korenima.
                                   ,, Jahači na oluji,
                                    u ovoj kući ste rođeni,
                                    u ovaj svet ste bačeni
                                    kao psi željni kosti,
                                    kao glumci željni uloge,
                                    jahači na oluji...”
     Od poletne energičnosti i sirovosti ,, The Changeling” i pop elemenata , Love her madly”, preko rečima naslikanih, bolom i gorčinom obojenih bluz tema ,, Been down so long” i ,,Cars hiss by my window”, preko hitmične, furiozne ,, L.A. Woman” i tame ,, L Americe”, pa sve do lirski nadahnutih ,, Hyacinth house” i ,, The WASP”, još jednog moćnog bluz standarda ,, Crawlin king snake” i završne, melanholijom obojene ,, Riders on the storm”, neke vrste Morisonovog epitafa, opraštaja od sveta koji ga nije razumeo i prihvatio, plovimo uzburkanim okeanom jednog burnog života, jedinstvenog muzičkog i poetskog izraza, životnog stava i shvatanja-proživljenog do granica (ne) mogućeg...
                                   ,, Pa, đavolski dugo sam bio daun
                                    već mislim da sam gore.
                                    Zašto neko od vas ne dođe
                                    i pusti me na slobodu?...
    Čitav jedan život, zgusnut u poetske sklopove, nemire i slike naprosto oživljava pred slušaocem, bolno iskren i prenet kao impresija na platno, osenčen bluz setom i teškim, klaustrofobičnim tonovima. Atmosfera na albumu varira od razigrane lepršavosti i poleta do teskobne tame i zloslutnosti ugođaja. Ono što je sazrevalo godinama unazad, kroz nezaboravne žive nastupe, svojevrsno the Doors ludilo na ivici nervnog sloma, i kreativno muzičko-poetsko napredovanje, doseglo je svoj vrhunac u opraštajnom remek-delu, jednom od onih koje ostaje sa vama do poslednjeg kraja, i onda kada muzika utihne... Pesma ,, Changeling“ predstavljala je snažni, sirovi, klasični rock and roll( nastala je 1968. godine, kao jedna od mnogih sjajnih iz Morisonovih haotičnih beleški), i nosila je u sebi jetku mantru ,, Imao sam novac, nisam imao ništa“, Morisonov gorki stav o ispaznosti života rokenrolera. Robijeva ,, Love her madly“, vanredno melodična i furiozna, objavljena je kao singl, nedelju dana pre Džimovog odlaska u Pariz( što je označilo definitivni kraj dotadašnjih Dorsa), marta 1971. godine...
... U drugoj nedelji decembra 1970. godine Dorsi su održali ono što su nazivali ,, blues day“. Nakon obrade bluz standarda legendarnog Džon Li Hukera ,, Crawling king snake“, Džim je oduševio sve prisutne novom bluz pesmom ,, Beeen down so long“( pevajući o sebi kao o zatvoreniku on je aludirao na mučno suđenje u Majamiju i moguću šestomesečnu zatvorsku kaznu – odloženu velikom kaucijom, u zloglasnom zatvoru ,, Dade county“, na Floridi)... Moćnim i duboko proživljenim tekstovima, snažnim, alkoholom i gorčinom nagriženim vokalom, harizmom i paklenom doslednošću Džim se na ovom albumu nametao kao apsolutni lider i neko ko se u celosti, punim srcem, davao na poslednjem zajedničkom projektu benda koji je obeležio jednu epohu i svet... Još jedan moćan, vanvremenski bluz - ,, Cars hiss by my window“( u kojem Džim na jedinstven način solira glasom, podražavajući zvuk bluz gitare) govori o jednoj od mnogih epizoda iz Džimovog burnog života bitnika, pesnika i pevača Dorsa, govori o događaju u vreloj sobi – sa zagrejanom devojkom, i mračnoj, melanholičnoj atmosferi smrti koja dolazi... Džim još jednom aludira, ovaj put na njegov sve haotičniji odnos sa devojkom Pamelom, koja je u to vreme već živela u Parizu i bila heroinski ovisnik. Inspiracija za naslovnu numeru, njihov poslednji, veliki hit - ,, LA woman“, bio je roman losanđeloskog pisca Johna Rechia - ,, City of night“(1963.) – jedan od Morisonovih omiljenih iz studentskih dana, kao i reči pisca Johna Fantea: ,, Jebi se, L.A., i tvoje palme, i tvoje visoke glupe žene i tvoje fensi ulice...“...
   U međuvremenu, u jednoj od pauza snimanja poslednjeg ,, The Doors“ albuma, Džim Morison je proslavio svoj 27. rođendan( 8. decembar 1970.), snimajući tog dana svoju poeziju( bez Dorsa)... Bili su to snimci, posthumno objavljeni, poznati pod nazivom ,, An american prayer“ – stihovi Morisona ,, ozvučeni“ naknadno od (pre)ostalih članova benda... Nakon što je završio snimanje u ranim jutarnjim časovima, iskapivši još jednu bocu žestine do dna, Džim se onesvestio i srušio se na gomilu studijske opreme. Sutradan je već zahtevao od benda da sviraju neke od numera sa budućeg albuma ,, LA woman“( do tada snimljene) uživo... Uprkos njegovoj dotadašnjoj odluci da posle živog nastupa na engleskom ostrvu Vajt( avgust 1970.) i suđenja za incident u Majamiju nikada više ne nastupi na koncertu sa Dorsima, on se naglo predomislio i datumi za nove nastupe istog trenutka su dogovoreni( uporedo sa daljim studijskim radom na novom albumu) – 11. decembar, Dallas, i 12. decembar 1970. – New Orleans( ispostaviće kao poslednji živi nastup Dorsa sa Morisonom)... Kraj je bio sve bliži... Muzika se bližila konačnom kraju...
 Manzarek:,, Upravo je u Nju Orlinsu Džim sasvim izgubio svoju čudesnu energiju. Bio je jednostavno ispražnjen...“.
Densmor:,, Njegova životna sila je nestala. Bilo je to veoma depresivno iskustvo“.
Vins Treanor( road menadžer Dorsa): ,, Bio je veoma pijan. Bend je završio deo pesme ,, Light my fire“, a Džim je visio na mikrofonu pokušavajući da peva... Zatim je seo kraj bubnjeva i nije se vraćao da peva... Nakon što ga je Densmor razdrmao nogom, Džim je napokon ustao i promrmljao:,, Da...da...“, a onda je uzeo stalak mikrofona i počeo mahnito da udara po podijumu – sve do trenutka dok drveni pod u ,, Warehouseu“( bivše skladište u Nju Orlinsu) nije počeo da puca... Potom je bacio ostatke stalka u publiku i napustio binu( ispostaviće se, nepovratno). Densmor je tada ustao i rekao: ,, U redu, ja više ne sviram“ i napustio je pozornicu, ostavivši na sceni Robija i Reja...“.
    Bio je to kraj, trenutak velike gorčine i konačne spoznaje kraha jednog velikog čoveka, buntovnika, bitnika, pesnika i umetnika, emotivni i nervni slom Džima Morisona – jedan u nizu zloslutnih padova koji će ga par meseci kasnije odvesti u smrt – u Parizu, 3. jula 1971. godine....

     Posle sloma ,, apsolutno uživo“, na sceni ,, Warehose“, New Orleans, nastavljeno je snimanje šestog, poslednjeg studijskog albuma Dorsa sa Morisonom...
  Pesma ,, Riders on the storm“ postaće Džimov umetnički epitaf, trenutak kada je njegova besmrtna muzika utihnula... Bio je januar 1971. godine... Pamela se vratila iz Pariza, Džim se neko vreme primirio i doneo definitivnu životnu odluku o njihovom zajedničkom odlasku u Pariz... Odluka suda u Majamiju o Džimovoj višemesečnoj robiji na Floridi, mogućnost oduzimanja pasoša uprkos plaćenoj kauciji, kraj živih nastupa Dorsa i gubitak želje za daljim radom sa bendom, nagnali su umornog i razočaranog buntovnika Džima Morisona da prelomi... Incident na koncertu u Majamiju bio je presudan – Džim je postao progonjeni, obeleženi i nepoželjni ,, public enemy“, nastupi Dorsa su otkazivani i praćeni, dok je zloglasni FBI Džimu disao za vratom...
  Džimov muzički epitaf – pesma ,, Jahači oluje“, po rečima Reja Manzareka bila je uzeta i adaptirana za album iz Džimovog scenarija za film ,, Highway“( iz 1969.), film o autostoperu-ubici( igra ga sam Morison), koji nakon stopiranja ubija vozača i otima njegov plavi ,, Mustang“ u apokaliptičnoj atmosferi ,, Joshua tree“ pustinje... Morison je film snimio sa nekolicinom bivših kolega sa UCLA univerziteta... Inspiracija za pesmu ,, Riders on the storm“ bila je poezija kultnog američkog pesnika Harta Cranea( koji je život okončao suicidom) koji je pisao o ,, jahačima oluje“... Priča o ludaku-ubici završava se romantičnim stihovima o ljubavi( posvećenih Pameli)...
  Album ,, LA woman“ bio je zaokružena celina, životna priča nastala iz pobune duha, kao jedna od mnogih s kraja šetdesetih, bergmanovski zatamnjena i lirski nadahnuta, muzički oslonjena na blues-jazz tradiciju zaodenutu snagom rock and rolla, jednostavna, iskrena i uklesana u stenu vremena kao nešto što ga nadilazi svojom unutrašnjom snagom i kreacijom. Vrata otvorena između krajnosti spoznatog i nedokučivog, odsjaji i damari duše i srca suprotstavljeni jezi smrti...korak dalje ka ostvarenju snova što nam izmiču na dalekom putu ka sebi i neprolaznosti. Neponovljivi the Doors touch namenjen sanjarima koji nikad ne odustaju, bez obzira na cenu i odricanja, veru u nešto što nadilazi i sam život.

 Manzarek: ,, U toj fotografiji možete videti nestanak Džima Morisona. Sedeo je, jer je bio pijan. Bio je na zalasku života i nosio je prevelik teret na leđima. On više nije bo mladi pesnik kojeg sam sreo 1965. godine na plaži u Venice westu...“.

Afro Samurai
English: It all starts with Afro's father who is bearing the title "number 1" dying by "number 2". Then comes the timeskip, Afro has grown and became stronger and his goal is revenge. He takes the title "number 2". He has a friend with him who constantly follows him. He finds out where his father's killer is, but on the way he is beaten and saved by a woman he knew from childhood. He stays there for a couple of days and watches the fireworks with her. Art is very strange and special and that is why I like it very much. On his way, Afro encounters an organization that tries to stop him, but without success. Next, Afro finds another friend who he was sure died when they were little, but was saved by that very organization. However, he is now half-human. Afro lost everything, just to get revenge. The ending is very strange, I think another episode would be great.
Favorite character: Ninja Ninja Sve počinje tako što Afrov otac koji nosi titulu "broj 1" umire od strane "broja 2". Zatim dolazi timeskip, Afro je porastao i postao je jači i kreće u osvetu. Preuzima titulu "broj 2". Uz sebe ima prijatelja koji ga stalno prati. Saznaje gde se nalazi ubica njegovog oca, ali na putu biva prebijen i spasi ga ženu koju je znao iz detinjstva. Tamo ostaje par dana i sa njom gleda vatromet. Art je veoma čudan i poseban i zato mi se veoma sviđa. Afro na svom putu nailazi na organizaciju koja pokušava da ga zaustavi, ali neuspešno. Dalje Afro pronalazi još jednog prijatelja za kojeg je bio siguran da je umro kada su bili mali, ali je spašen upravo od te organizacije. Doduše, sada je polu-čovek. Afro je izgubio sve, samo kako bi izvršio osvetu. Kraj je veoma čudan, mislim da još jedna epizoda ne bi škodila. Omiljeni lik: Nindža Nindža

錦絵から出て来た女の人, translation, part III
お昼頃、息子がふと気がつくと、家の中にはいつの間にか一人の美しい女の人がいて、家の中を掃除したり、囲炉裏の鍋に湯をわかしたりしていたのです。
びっくりした息子は、思わず二階から声をかけました。 「あの、あなたさまは、どこのどなたですか?」 「きゃあっ!」 突然声をかけられてびっくりした女の人は、足を滑らせて火をたいている囲炉裏の上に倒れてしまいました。 「あっ、あぶねえ!」 息子はあわてて二階から飛び降りましたが、女の人は囲炉裏の火に包まれたかと思うと、一瞬のうちに消えてしまいました。 「どういう事だ? それにあの女、どこかで見た顔だったが」 息子が首を傾げて何げなく壁を見てみると、壁にはってある錦絵の女の人のところだけが、真っ白になっていたのです。 「これは! ・・・そうか、そうだったのか」 なんと錦絵に描かれた女の人が、お嫁のいない息子をふびんに思って絵から抜け出していたのでした。 それから息子は何年も何年も錦絵の女の人が現れるのを待ちましたが、錦絵の女の人は二度と現れず、錦絵は白いままでした。

Oko podneva, sin postane svjestan da se u kući nalazi lijepa žena koja je posprema dok na ognjištu u loncu grije vodu. Iznenađen, sin s drugog kata bez razmišljanja upita: “Gospo, a odakle si se ti stvorila?” “Aaah!” Uplašena iznenadnim zvukom, ženi se noga oklizne te ona padne u vatru što je gorjela u ognjištu. “Oh, ne!” Sin se žurno spusti s kata, ali ženu je već, kako mu se učini, progutao plamen, jer je nigdje u kući više nije bilo. “Što je pak ovo bilo? A to sam lice negdje već vidio ali...” Sin, već po navici, okrene glavu kako bi pogledao zid, no na mjestu gdje je na slici bila žena, sada se nalazila samo bijela boja. “Dakle! Pa kako… a izgleda da jest.” Tako je nacrtana žena sa slike, iz sažaljenja prema neoženjenom sinu, iz slike izašla. Ili je bar tako on vjerovao.
Nakon toga je sin, godinu za godinom, čekao da se žena sa slike ponovo pojavi. Međutim, ona se nikad više pojavila nije, a slika je ostala bijela kao što je i bila.

Around noon, the son becomes aware that in the house there is a beautiful woman who cleans the house and boils water in a pan on a hearth. Surprised, the son called out without thinking. “Lady, where you came from?” “Eek!” Frightened by the sudden sound the woman’s leg slipped and she falls into the fire which was burning in the hearth. “Oh, no!” The son jumped down from upstairs, but the woman was already, as it seemed,  consumed by a flame because she disappeared from the house. “What was that? And that face, I saw it somewhere...” As usual, the son turned his head to look at the wall, but on the picture, the place where the woman was standing was totally white. “Well! But how… it seems like it is.” That was the way the son thought, that woman from the picture, feeling pity for him for being unmarried, step out from the picture.
After that, year after year, the son waited for the woman from the picture to appear again.  But, she has never appeared again and the picture remained white as it was.
The end
In this part, I have a few questions.  First what is か in this sentence 息子はあわてて二階から飛び降りましたが、女の人は囲炉裏の火に包まれたかと思うと、一瞬のうちに消えてしまいました。Is か here serves as a question mark before と思う and how to translate it? Second, in this sentence なんと錦絵に描かれた女の人が、お嫁のいない息子をふびんに思って絵から抜け出していたのでした。I am not sure did the son thought that woman step out because there is 思って, or he didn’t.  I also apologize for the terrible English part.
