“Uh, so, are we gonna talk about it, or…?” Robin trails off as she turns back to look at Steve, who’s seated on Robin’s bed. He’s wearing a hoodie and some PJ pants because tonight is sleepover night at Robin’s place for once.

“Talk about what?” Steve asks and it’s clear that he knows what she means but is skirting the topic.

Robin finishes tying the tiny braid with a hair tie and shoots Steve a look. “Uhhhh, I don’t know, maybe the weird thing going on between you and Eddie?”

“What weird thing? There’s no weird thing,” Steve is immediately defensive and Robin laughs as she flops back onto the mattress beside him.

“I’m just saying, you’ve been spending a lot of time with Eddie lately and a girl could get jealous, y’know?”

Steve tilts his head down to glare at her, a warning that Robin ignores.

“I guess I’m just wondering if there’s something going on there,” She pushes, poking Steve’s side with her finger.

“Cut it out, Robin,” He bats her hand away with an exasperated sigh. Well, more like an irritated sigh, really.

“No, seriously, is there? Because you guys have been getting really close lately and you know that if there is something doing in there and it’s something kinda gay then—“

“Seriously, Robin,” Steve grits out and, oh. That’s new. Steve doesn’t get pissed at Robin, like ever. “Stop.”

“Steve?” Robin sits up, Steve sounds genuinely upset and that hasn’t been her intention at all, so she has to fix this, like, immediately.

“I’m just,” Steve cuts off. “I’m trying to figure it all out, but it’s a lot, Rob, and I’m just not ready to talk about it out loud yet. I’m sorry, I want to tell you about it, but I just can’t do that yet.”

Robin sobers up immediately, all desire to tease Steve evaporating like it was never there to begin with.

“Oh, Steve, no,” She puts a hand on the top of his back, in between his shoulders and he leans back into the touch. Robin isn’t big on physical touch, but she knows that Steve is, and that’s what matters right now. “I’m sorry, Steve, I shouldn’t have tried to pressure you into telling me anything. I’m so sorry. It’s okay that you don’t want to tell me.”

“I do want to tell you,” Steve insists and Robin leans into him and slips both her arms in a loose hug around the tops of his shoulders, tucking her head into crook of his neck. “I just can’t right now.”

He sounds so frustrated and sad and Robin’s heart is breaking in her chest to see him so distraught over this. She wishes she could take a look into his head and figure out what part of all of this is eating at him so much, but she can’t do that so she settles for trying to comfort him.

“It’s okay,” She tries to reassure Steve, but he shakes his head.

“No, it’s not,” He sounds a little choked up and Robin doesn’t say anything about it. “I should be able to tell my best friend this sort of stuff. I mean, why would you even wanna be friends with someone who can’t even talk to you?”

“Because I love you, you idiot,” Robin says, squeezing her arms around him just a bit tighter. “I’m not leaving you, Steve. I’ll still be here when you’re ready, no matter how long that takes. You’re my best friend in the whole wide world, you loser, and you’re literally never getting rid of me.”

“Never?” Steve’s hands come up to grip Robin’s arms and she just leans into him even further, trying to smother him with physical evidence of how much she adores him.

“Never ever,” She confirms, smacking a large kiss to his cheek. She ignores the wetness she feels there, knows Steve wouldn’t want her to point it out.

“Promise?” He asks, his voice quiet but less unsure than it was before.

“Promise, dingus,” Robin says, and it’s a promise she intends to keep.

14. What’s the biggest change in your taste between when you started in fandom and today?

Hmmm, well, I started reading fic back in the days of ff.net, a million years ago. I think most of what I read as a kid was very straight forward and action focused, with not much insight into the character’s thoughts and feelings. I also really did not like super long fics, but they are totally my favorite thing in the world to read now!

35. Have you ever written a ship into a fic without meaning to?

No, all of my fics have a ship in mind when I start writing it. It’s always intentional.
