man it's like. impossible to buy a dumb phone now. i had an old LG brick in hs (like. virgin mobile? maybe?) and you could top it up and it cost $.25 to make a call or $.10 to text and otherwise you could just forget it in a drawer and i guess plans like that don't exist anymore and barely either do dumbphones.

OOHHHHH!! TO END THIS POST WITH THE FIRST SENTENCE OF "JACKET"!! THATS SO COOL!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE PAST TEN YEARS!! PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR YAPPING TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT!!
HAPPY TEN YEARS TO THIS BLOG AND JACKET
if you've been here as long as this blog's existence then, know i'm finna yap:
sorry but warning for me and my mental health and my journey here...
smiles i am only human after all <:3 without further ado—
i've put off this post for... many reasons (hoildays, stress, perfectionism, anxiety) but maybe i'll keep this rendition and not chicken out or delete it because it's not perfect?
i really still can't believe i missed the anniversary for this! nov 29th huh? (yes i can actually !!! at the time i had just started a new job and that's where all my willpower has been.) but i fondly remember those ten years ago, that nov 29th is just as close to december anyway. so i always lead myself to think it's dec and not nov! details !!!
i don't think it'd make a difference but i do so want to get this in before the new year... (adding unnecessary stressors to myself smh)
it's been quite a ride through addhell. it's weird... to think how much has happened here. it's insane to think about how this one white hair anime boy changed my live in ways i could never fathom
picture it with me, a no one in a group of friends. with nothing but... the ambition of friendship, and the love of writing to fuel him, and a new username ready to take on the world: mymastermine.
that group of friends holds three: me, my would be DIE, and my would be LP. (does... does anyone remember those days of us three causing chaos laughs - tho mostly two, i suppose) we would make our way into the fandom, make tons of things, meet some people, make things with those people and make friends, lose some people, and grow, grow, grow...
there's just been... so much in ten years. ten years guys !!! that's a lot !!! i was a proud senpai and kouhai all at once! i'd found a really cool sensei. i ran into artists who drew things for me and i wrote for them!
i watched the rise AND fall of void els (raise your hand if you're an oger), in real time watched vMM became a cultural phenomenon (you're lying to yourself if you dont think he was - ykb did something irreversible to the add fandom that day i fear 😂 he's still relevant to this day lmFAO thank ykb for ur service), i watched the top LP/bottom LP debates :/, i'd poked my head into the els tag to see yall fighting but then i'd see some cool things too! i've seen so many cool projects and zines -- hell, got to actually take part in one! (cringe as it was - our writing, not the zine but still proud of doing that !!!)
addcest/hellsword (tumblr) isn't what it use to be though. (hell tumblr itself isn't what it use to be, let's be real LMAO) but... i think that i love that hasn't stopped some of us for cherishing and/or still loving add to this day.
i think if you'd told past me i'd be doing this, writing for one (1) singular anime boy, i wouldn't be surprised - couldn't expect it to go any other way i think
i'm not sure how to feel that ten years later i am still writing for him - it's been quite obvious where i felt it wane (but that was more my life and mental health (was in quite few depressive episodes - still am lmao), and joy - or lack thereof at the times - of writing and placing my joy momentarily elsewhere) but... wow i'm still here? LMAO
but i've met so many amazing people because of him... i've made connections, some not quite lasting, but then... there's always someone else there isn't there?
(i met dez and rain-kouhai for the first time recently! i've met more people for add hell between now and maybe 2-3 years ago! can you imagine that??? people still interacting, still wanting to talk about add - i literally can't! i go on twitter kr/jp and go "wow new add fanart" and feel so lucky !!!)
it's just little joys like this that makes me appreciate such things
i guess what i'm trying to say... thank you add for all the connections i've had and made.
thank you to my original trio
thank you to addhell tumblr... ! (literally would have never known some of yall)
thank you to void els (for gay add marriage lmao but also some more cool friends and mutuals)
thanks discord for hosting gay add ramblings and ao3 for letting me put my gay shit there
thank you - to anyone and everyone who has ever read my work and supported me - friends, mutuals, strangers, anons - and to anyone who's drawn/wrote for or with me! (yes, i think about your comments, your kind words, your support! yes your comment, you!) 😭😭😭 it is the simple act of creating and sharing/encouraging that seriously drives me forward in every word i type... and this alone feels like it's not enough!
but mostly, thank you add, for everything, really
where da hell would this bnuuy be without you?
i was going to... add a more emotional spiel but i think this is good enough, don't nya'll think? :')
"i'm so glad you're still here even after all these past ten years"
you know what? i think i might just be too
thanks for the one whole decade everyone wahoo !!!
-
"they shared a bed together." - jacket, nov 29th 2014
#once again HAPPY TEN YEARS MY LORD!!#I really must say this: I was there#I was there when the chaotic trio wrote the stories that helped me deal with the struggles of my teenage years#I was there when your “fights” with your LP cheered me up on the days I felt numb#I still remember the hype I felt every time I saw a new post with your username as the author#I'm not kidding; the moment i get to see one of your post with the magic words of “Tittle” “Pairing” “Words” and “Summary” thats when i kne#I knew i was going to read another one of your fanfics and the joy i would feel after that I still keep it in my heart#I don't want to be cheesy and bore you with my past but up to this date I can say your writing has given me a happiness like no other#I can't even try to explain... I was a teenager who sat in the back of the class with a Nokia Lumina 520 hidden on her left pocket#that teenager after finishing early an assignment or during lunch would take her phone out carefully so the teachers wouldn't notice#and she would read again and again Psykerberserker's and Mymastermine's stories till the bell rang or till the teachers almost caught her#I would like to add that back then I didn't have browsing data so I had to read screenshots or PDFs with the “Copy - paste” version-#- of your writing. That phone wasn't an android or an IOS device so i couldn't use the Tumblr app or read your fics on a browser.#Sadly that phone d!ed but I'm sure if I could turn it on again it would still contain those screenshots and PDFs.#They were my treasure. My joy. And my happiness.#I could still talk more about my past but I thing that's enough. sorry if you had to search what is a Nokia Lumina 520 ^^;;#but I can't go without saying that the day when you post “Tedious Training” it was my father's birthday-#-we were celebrating in a restaurant and I get a chance to get the wifi pass. I was bored so I checked if you post anything and OHH MY GAAA#I wasn't expecting that and I couldn't just read the fic right there so as soon I got home I ran to turn on my laptop#I HAVE READ THAT FIC SO MANY TIMES AND EACH TIME ITS SUCH A THRILL TO READ IT. I LOVE IT I CAN GET ENOUGH#I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEE YOUR WRITING!!!#I'm sorry if I sounded so normal/ chill / or calm. No I'm not normal about your writing I'M OBSESSED I LOVE IT.#“Jacket” was the first fic I read about your writing and that's when I fell in love with it.#“Distractions” is what made me realize I love the idea of LP having a tattoo and I'm so glad KOG gave tattoo/marks to DBr on his arms#to read “Psyker's Plan” every Christmas or new year during family gatherings saved me during these holidays#and have I talked about my obsession with “Tedious Training”? No? oh well allow me talk about it with one more tag:#THAT FIC IS SO PEAK!!#the part of Psyker saying: “I see there are no more complains”...“Because”...“I want you”...“Right Now”...“I want to take you right here MM#OHOHOOHOHO!!! THAT PART LIVES RENT FREE ON MY EMPTY BRAIN WITH MY LAST BRAINCELL AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!#I JUST PICTURE YOU LIKE THAT GIF OF A GUY WRITING AND THE PAPER IS ON FIRE AS HE WRITES. TRULY A MASTERPIECE OF A PARAGRAPH!!!

What kind of smartphones would AGSZC use? Apple or Android?
P.S. - Angeal totally strikes me as an old school flip phone kind of guy.
Angeal: Nokia brick If Shinra didn't provide updated models for all of them, Angeal would have never made the switch from flip phones to smartphones, and would still keep his old phone that was held together by duct tape, superglue, and electrocuted him every time he touched it, because "it works perfectly fine, and phones are for calling, so why buy a new one?"
Zack: latest iPhone Zack misses flip phones not because of the phone itself, but because of how efficient he used to be pre-apps and games. Unfortunately Angeal now has ammo against him.
Zack: OW! MY LEG HURTS!
Angeal: It's because of that damn phone.
Zack: I'M BLEEDING??
Angeal: That damn phone.
Zack: I THINK I BROKE IT!
Angeal: Because you spend too much time on your phone.
Cloud: Doesn't care about the type of phone he has as long as it makes calls and sends emails. He doesn’t get the fuss over the latest models and has no interest in smartphones.
Sephiroth: If he had a say in it, the man wouldn't even own a phone. He would communicate solely through letters and telegrams because that's how exhausted he is of being reachable 24/7. Sometimes he completely gets rid of his phone.
Genesis: I've been trying to reach you for three hours!
Sephiroth: Yes, I threw my phone away. It's healthy to take a break from technology once in a while, Genesis.
Genesis: Angeal is missing! What if he's been in danger and needed to call you??
Sephiroth: If the information is important enough, it will find its way to me.
*A dove flies up to Sephiroth and delivers a letter*
Genesis: !?
*Sephiroth reads it*
Sephiroth: Ah. What did I tell you?
Genesis: Is it Angeal??
Sephiroth: No. Zack has sent me a cat meme.
Genesis: Red iPhone As much as he loves the invention of the smartphone and being able to watch the soap operas (that he denies watching) on the go, he's a sucker for historical relics, and purchased a red rotary phone for his office. It rings at a volume that is a nuisance to the environment.
*Sephiroth walks into Genesis' office, where the phone won't stop ringing*
Sephiroth: Genesis, you need to get rid of that phone. I've been receiving complaints about it all day.
Genesis: Please, you're just jealous of my telephone.
Sephiroth: I promise you I'm not.
Genesis: Ha! I'll tell you what—whoever has a problem with me and my telephone can call me directly to complain about it.
Sephiroth: Understood.
*Sephiroth leaves*
*Three minutes later, the phone rings again and Genesis picks it up*
Genesis: Hello?
Sephiroth: IF YOU DON'T GET RID OF THAT THING, GENESIS, I WILL RETURN YOU TO THE GODDESS.
Genesis:

A few weeks ago, I bought a small cheap Android tablet from China; however after a few days, it started hallucinating input.
When I faced facts that the problem would not go away, the return deadline has already passed.
So I bought another tablet, a larger slightly older Nokia similar to my phone (which is very good), and because it is older and runs only Android 11, it was even cheaper than the Chinese one.
After I had finished setting it up, I suddenly found the purple Chinese tablet had also spontaneously regained its sanity.
I am currently posting this from the Nokia, which is amazingly easy to type on with two thumbs. I am sure I will find a use for both, and I will need to hold the compliance of the purple crazy thing hostage with the existence of an instant replacement, but as of now, I own a surfeit of decent electronics.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Friday morning my phone shit itself. I'd been considering moving to a dumb phone but wasn't really expecting to have to make a decision quite so quickly, but here we are. Since I'm still chronically online though, I've made this blog to document my experiences and see how I go and how long I hold out before I cave and just get another smartphone I guess.
I've just been becoming more and more tired of finding myself scrolling mindlessly down apps I don't care about, that are feeding me content I don't want to see, and more adverts than posts by people I care about. I've become tired of constant software updates, planned obsolescence, and my battery running flat by 3pm every day. And now the introduction of AI generated content. If no one can be bothered to create it why would I bother to look at it, y'know?
So yesterday I went and bought this beauty. She's a Nokia 325 4G in "Future Dusk" (that's dark purple) and she cost $89.
This was the most up-spec phone I could find that didn't run android (or ios). She has a 2mp camera! I'm thrilled with how grainy and creepy the photos look, but i am going to need to get a proper camera, which is not a bad thing. I've been sussing out some options and I think I've found a cool Canon compact on Marketplace.
I've gotta tell you though, this feels like it has less personalisation options than my old 3315. It probably doesn't though. although what ever happened to a little hook on the corner so i could attach a wrist strap or a little flashing hello kitty charm or whatever? rude.
The predictive text feels very clunky, there doesn't appear to be a way to save custom words in the dictionary, which i definitely feel like the old T9 did. There's no emojis so we're back to texting ascii art, which is fun tbh.
Ring tones are limited but you can set MP3's as ring tones so that's fine. The standard text tone I've set is actually very cute, it sounds very magical, and receiving text messages is suddenly very exciting. especially since I've become so used to messenger.
Oh wait! I've just figured out how to add words. Great. So like, even as someone who's used this kind of tech before, there's still a little bit of a learning curve as I reacquaint myself with it.
There's no way to move menu options around to suit my preference as far as I can tell but there aren't that many of them so it's not that much of an issue.
The big challenge I'm facing is how to listen to audiobooks. I've become rather reliant on listening to audiobooks in order to get tedious tasks done. It's honestly something I dreamed about as a kid and audible basically saved my life, I'm not even exaggerating (much). This little phone can play mp3s, and there are ways to convert audible files to mp3 but having a 30 hour long mp3 with no way to skip back and forth on the track is not especially useful, and there's also no way that i've found so far to change the play speed.
There are MP3 players capable of running audible, but that also means they're capable of running all the other apps that I don't want to be able to have access to. I don't feel that I'm addicted to my phone precisely but I also don't have a lot of self control as regards the bad habit I've developed of reaching for my phone any time my hands are not otherwise engaged. If anyone out there knows of some ways around that please let me know!
Anyway
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please appreciate these grainy-ass photos I took with the phone's camera of my dog Tillie, and some Daffodils growing in my garden.

Most Durable Smartphones for Sri Lankan Users
Tumblr media
Durability is a key factor for many tech-savvy consumers today. Whether you're navigating city life or exploring the outdoors, having a smartphone that withstands drops, dust, and water is essential. When browsing an Online Mobile Store Sri Lanka, knowing what to look for in a tough smartphone can save you time and money.
The Significance of Durability in Sri Lanka
Smartphones that can withstand harsh conditions are necessary due to Sri Lanka's climate, which includes high humidity and unexpected rain, as well as people's active lifestyles. For beach excursions and tuk-tuk rides, your phone must be more than simply stylish—it must be durable.
Key Characteristics of Durability
Look for these crucial characteristics while selecting a robust phone:
Water and Dust Resistance: An IP67 or IP68-rated phone will successfully withstand water and dust.
Gorilla Glass Protection: Provides excellent defence against screen cracks and scratches.
Shockproof Body: Impact is lessened by a reinforced shell or military-grade structure.
Battery Endurance: For consumers who are often on the go, a long-lasting battery is essential.
The Best Long-Lasting Smartphones in Sri Lanka for 2025
The following models are renowned for their durability and toughness:
1. The Samsung Galaxy XCover6 Pro is approved for shock resistance by MIL-STD-810H.
IP68-rated for protection to dust and water
Changing the 4,050mAh battery
Sturdy construction, perfect for frequent users
2. The industrially designed CAT S62 Pro
MIL-STD-810H and IP68 rated
Professional thermal imaging camera
4000mAh battery for extended use
3. The aluminium body and Gorilla Glass Victus of the Nokia XR21
Water-resistant IP69K and certified to MIL-STD-810H
3-day battery life when used often
A pristine Android interface that receives frequent updates
4. The iPhone 15 Pro
Despite not being advertised as robust, it is very durable due to its Ceramic Shield front and IP68 rating.
Performance longevity is guaranteed by the A15 chip.
High-end construction, ideal for anyone seeking protection and power
Striking the Correct Balance Between Design and Durability
Despite their large appearance, many tough phones now have far better designs. These days, a number of robust phones combine strong construction with high-end design to provide both flair and protection.
In conclusion
Prioritise long-lasting smartphones when selecting your next one in Sri Lanka. Investing a little more money on a sturdy gadget can give you piece of mind and prolong the life of your purchase. Check out Celltronics, which sells a range of tough cellphones appropriate for the Sri Lankan market, for reliable and well-regarded devices.

oh god. I was looking at android smartphones a bit since a youtube video came up in my subs and I realized I'm probably years out of date now (the flagship qualcomm phone chip is now using the oryon core that powers the new generation of arm windows laptops. neat!)
"of course there's a bunch of samsung flagships and the pixels," I think, "but I've always kind of avoided those. and there are various chinese brands, usually not available in the us, as well as oneplus which toes that line in an interesting way. asus and lenovo do niche devices that you generally can't get from carriers. so all of those aside, let's see what the brands I really follow are up to! there's..."
...the only brands that still makes us phones that I didn't just list are motorola and an offshoot of nokia(!) called hmd. htc and lg left the market, I'm not sure if sony is selling xperia into the us anymore, and I listed everything else.
it looks like if you're in the us and want the high-performance chips in an android phone of the same (ideally lesser) size and weight as a "regular" iphone, you can get a "regular" samsung galaxy, you can maybe go for the zenfone 10 (discontinued), or... you can go pound sand? that's fun. glad I'm not trying to shop in that market. I guess the moto edge looks sort of aggressively fine?
now I wonder if "regular" size phones sell in low enough volume compared to big ones that the only brands that can afford to offer them are the real high volume sellers (apple and samsung) and the huge companies that can pretend they are (google and motorola, which is a lenovo subsidiary).
anyway, kind of hope hmd succeeds. we could use another european phone brand that's willing to think outside the box and has an ifixit partnership.

Y'all look me in the eye (metaphorically) rn:
You buy a Motorola. Mine was 270 dollars no contract at best buy (that was for their newest model at the time it's probably like 200 now). My camera is great, I have around 250 Gs of storage which is insane. I have a headphone jack. When I tell you this thing is indestructable....it has the soul of a Nokia infused within it. I can toss this bad boy over my shoulder and I do not have a single scratch on my screen. I've dropped it down concrete stairs, onto rocks, accidentally launched it across the sidewalk. I do not have a screen protector, just a clear case I got for like 15 dollars on amazon.
I've never owned a phone that wasn't Motorola. Never cracked a screen, though I had an led short out in my last one it was still perfectly fine save for a weird splotch in the top corner of the screen. It's a solid fucking phone PLUS I can leave it in irresponsible places because nobody is going to steal my cheap ass android phone
Furthermore whoever removed the audio jack from phones should be grilled in front of congress. The fact that I need a dongle to listen to music on a modern telephone while 20 years ago I could have simply plugged a universally standardized cord into the audio jack everyone knew how to use is an anti-human move that should be punished.

The Evolution of Mobile Phones: A Journey Through Time
Mobile phones have come a long way since their inception, evolving from simple communication devices to powerful gadgets that have become an essential part of our daily lives. Today, smartphones are not just used for calling and texting; they have transformed into multi-functional devices that are used for everything from browsing the internet to managing work, taking photos, and even making payments. In this article, we’ll explore the evolution of mobile phones, their current features, and how they have revolutionized the way we communicate and interact with the world.
The Early Days of Mobile Phones
The journey of mobile phones began in the early 1970s, with the introduction of the first handheld mobile phone by Motorola. The device was bulky, weighing about 2.5 kilograms, and offered just 30 minutes of talk time before needing a recharge. This mobile phone, called the Motorola DynaTAC, was the first step toward a revolution in communication.
In the early years, mobile phones were seen as luxury items, only accessible to the wealthy or business professionals. They were primarily used for voice communication, and the networks were limited. However, as technology advanced and mobile networks expanded, mobile phones began to grow in popularity, especially during the 1990s when mobile phone companies like Nokia, Motorola, and Ericsson made mobile phones more affordable and accessible to the masses.
The Birth of the Smartphone
The real turning point in mobile technology came in the mid-2000s, with the introduction of smartphones. A smartphone is essentially a mobile phone that incorporates advanced features such as an operating system, internet connectivity, and the ability to run third-party applications. The first iconic smartphone was the Apple iPhone, released in 2007.
With its sleek design, touch-screen interface, and the revolutionary App Store, the iPhone changed the landscape of mobile phones forever. It wasn't just a phone; it was a complete handheld computer that offered users the ability to browse the internet, watch videos, play games, and even run professional applications.
In addition to Apple, other manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, and Google quickly joined the smartphone race, developing devices that used Google’s Android operating system. Android smartphones gave users an alternative to Apple’s iOS, and today, Android phones dominate the global smartphone market.
Modern Features of Smartphones
Today’s smartphones come packed with numerous features that go far beyond simple voice calling. Here are some of the most popular and advanced features of modern mobile phones:
High-Resolution Cameras: One of the standout features of modern smartphones is their camera quality. Whether you’re taking pictures, recording videos, or even live streaming, smartphones today offer camera sensors with up to 108MP resolution, improved low-light performance, and advanced editing tools. This has made mobile phones the preferred choice for photography enthusiasts and influencers alike.
Long Battery Life: With the addition of more powerful features, smartphones now offer significantly better battery life. Manufacturers have developed optimized processors and fast-charging technologies, allowing users to enjoy hours of screen time on a single charge.
Foldable Displays: One of the newest innovations in the mobile phone industry is foldable screens. Brands like Samsung and Huawei have introduced foldable phones, which offer users the flexibility of a large tablet-sized screen that can be folded into a more compact and portable form.
5G Connectivity: The rollout of 5G networks has been a game-changer for smartphones. With 5G, users can expect incredibly fast download and upload speeds, lower latency, and the ability to stream high-quality videos and play online games without interruptions.
Artificial Intelligence: Smartphones today are powered by artificial intelligence (AI), which enhances the user experience. AI helps improve photo quality, recommend apps, optimize battery life, and assist with voice commands through virtual assistants like Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa.
Biometric Security: Modern smartphones have incorporated several methods of biometric security, such as fingerprint scanners, face recognition, and iris scanning, to ensure user privacy and protect sensitive data.
Mobile Payments: Smartphones today allow users to make payments through Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. These contactless payment systems have made it incredibly convenient for people to pay for goods and services without the need for physical cards or cash.
The Impact of Smartphones on Society
Smartphones have had a profound impact on almost every aspect of our lives. Here are some ways in which smartphones have revolutionized society:
Communication: Smartphones have completely transformed the way we communicate. Text messages, voice calls, video chats, and social media have made it easier to stay connected with people across the world, regardless of location or time zone.
Entertainment: With the rise of streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify, smartphones have become the ultimate portable entertainment devices. Users can watch movies, listen to music, and play games on-the-go.
Work and Productivity: Smartphones have made it easier for people to work remotely, check emails, schedule appointments, and attend virtual meetings from anywhere. The ability to use productivity apps, collaborate in real-time, and access cloud-based documents has made smartphones indispensable tools for professionals.
Social Media: Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok have become a central part of how people interact with one another. Smartphones have made it possible for users to access these platforms anytime, anywhere, and create content, share updates, and connect with others instantly.
Navigation and Travel: GPS and mapping apps such as Google Maps and Waze have made it easier for people to navigate their surroundings and plan trips. Real-time traffic updates, route suggestions, and the ability to find places of interest have all been made possible through smartphones.
Future of Mobile Phones
As technology continues to evolve, so will the mobile phone. We are already seeing the emergence of technologies like augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and wearables like smartwatches that further enhance the smartphone experience.
The future of mobile phones will likely include even more integration with artificial intelligence, enhanced 5G capabilities, and innovations that we can't even imagine yet. It’s clear that the mobile phone will continue to be an integral part of our lives for years to come.
Conclusion

I had a dream last night people were making parts to retrofit old gameboys as cellphones that could be upgraded like PCs, that had game cartridges and games still. And I was shopping around for the right gameboy and the right upgrades.
When are we going to get little smartphone bricks with durable cases that we can switch parts out of and upgrade like little computers? Gods I want it. Carnally.
Enough of this slim phone netbook equivalent shit.
Make it durable enough to clip to my belt at a construction site like the old nextel nokia phones.
Design it like it's case is a built-in otter box.
Android phone makers are you hearing me?

This was kept in the car, kept charged at all times, and used ONLY in case of an emergency. It was never to be lent out to anyone--again, except for emergencies--and it was to be kept as hidden as the bulky bag would allow so no one would break in and steal it.
And before I was able to drive... the parents had something like THIS in the car that we usually used for long car trip vacations.
Tumblr media
Not the exact model or brand (I honestly can't remember what brand it was, this was back in the late 80's/early 90's), but it's pretty close. Physically mounted in the car so it could not be removed. Hard wired into car power, with a physical antenna mounted on the rear portion of the roof. Whenever the car turned on, you would hear it chirp real loud as if you were holding a button on a touch tone phone.
It was used almost exclusively for emergencies only, because our car trips would take us through fairly rural parts of our home state and the surrounding states. Also, dad drove all over a lot for work, and that let him stay in touch with customers and the home office.
Eventually, we all upgraded to these:

and then later came the Nokia candy bar style phone that you see as #2
I got so sick of pocket dialing with both the 5110 and the candy bar that I saved up my money and bought a Motorola flip phone (it didn't cost very much back then)
Tumblr media
The Motorola V180 -- I loved this thing. I played with it like it was a toy because... who among us who grew up with Star Trek didn't want a flip-open communicator?
I wore the hinge RIGHT the fuck out, so I bought a second one. Then I saw a newer, better version of this technology on the market and switched over to an updated flip phone.
I wanted a Motorola Razr, but those things were so stinkin' expensive. So instead, I got a Nokia 6085, and I still kind of really loved it.
Tumblr media
I had this thing for YEARS. It NEVER failed me and lasted FOREVER on a charge. It was pretty dang durable and had good reception.
After this, I ended up jumping over to the iPhone 3gs and... I mean... it was neat having a smart phone, but I low key hated iPOS, and eventually, when that phone's hardware broke down on me, and I tried to get a replacement, that experience was so terrible that I said "fuck it, I'm getting an android" and got a Samsung Galaxy S2... and it was like I had been set free.
I will never go back to apple... but sometimes... I do very much miss the simplicity of the old flip phone days.
