I have always wanted to play battletech but feel overwhelmed on making a team I can fill that fits the time period and stuff. Do I gotta make up a mercenary group to field a Highlander or does Steiner or Capellan have any? I am fairly stupid so I may be overcomplicating this.
You're in luck! Compared to something like warhammer 40k, battletech's restrictions on who gets what are fairly loose- I'd say more than half my games are basically 'set bv, set era, bring whatever'. This is decently supported by the lore- while militaries do have certain mechs they maintain in large number or unique designs they largely try to keep to themselves, battlefield salvage is and has always been a big part of Battletech. 'Kill the meat, save the metal' and all that.
If you'd like more concrete construction limits or its part of whatever scenario you're playing, Catalyst maintains a website called Master Unit List which is a database of which units are generally available to whom and when. This isn't a concrete list, but more an idea of what a given faction is able to get their hands without some serious string pulling. For instance, Mercenaries don't actually get access to a highlander in the succession wars per the MUL (northwind notwithstanding), but both the Capellans and Lyrans are maintaining downgraded HGN-733 variants in that time period

At some out-of-the-way station's obligatory 'merc bar':
The Steiner Stein. Big, strong, impressive, expensive. Frankly, more a flex than a drink.
The Liao Surprise. Unassuming, small, but potent for its size.
The Davion Deluxe. Classically done and delivers well.
The Kurita Classic. Fine, pure, traditional to the last drop.
The Marik Mixup. A chaotic blend of flavor. They say it never goes down the same way twice.
The ComStar Comet. Simple and consistent under the cultivated layer of sophistication.
The Republic on the Rocks. A middle-of-the-road flavor; satisfying but certainly never shocking.
The Clan Wolf. Strong and direct, with a consistent, full-throated flavor.
The Clan Jade Falcon. Bitter something fearsome. Takes some vindictiveness to actually finish.
The Clan Hell's Horses. A powerful opening with a kick of a finish to follow up.
The Clan Sea Fox. A hair stronger, and twice as expensive, than you would expect.
The Clan Smoke Jaguar. The pure burn of unadorned but high-quality liquor.
The Clan Nova Cat. Alcohol-free.
The Scorpion Empire. Available to VIPs only.
The Wolf Empire. Classical style derived from the Clan Wolf but with an all-new flavor.
The Alliance Special. A drink off the beaten track, smoky and jagged-edged.
The Dominion Deluxe. A seamless mix of strength and subtlety.
The Devlin's Choice. An unplaceable taste with a kick you'll never see coming.
The Snord's Delight. Fruity and sweet, light but with a sting of something to raise the spirits.
The Highlander Burial. True Northwind whisky, on ice chilled from her pure, crystal-clear springs.
Today's special: down the Malthus' Challenge in one go (and keep it down) for your chance to win a Refuse My Batchall?! keychain.
No longer served: the Jihadi Joy, the Razin' Hazen, the Mongol Doctrine, and the Kentares Crush.

Something I bought a while back, either for a small Dragoons force or to bolster my Northwind Highlanders.
Right after buying it, I seriously had two questions:
How cheesy would it be to deploy a lance of nothing but Annihilators?
Why did I buy just the one Urbanmech?

Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184: War of `67. Last day, main clashes.
(By Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184)
War of `67. Last day, main clashes.
As the dreams of good prizes filled the minds of the Commanders the fighting picked up in most battles.
Some clans increased their advantages, other clans managed to reduce their opponents lead, and in some cases get past them.
But most of the clans still held some reserves in readyness for a last offensive.
With four hours of fighting remaining, the scores stood:
Div 1
Odins secret chamber 129 - 27 Winters Coming
W.C. have done a good job, but O.s.c. have claimed better than 100 additional objectives.
Spirit of Bunny 32 - 58 Brotherhood of Arcane Dragons
The Dragons seem to have fastened a death-grip on the Bunnies.
Div 2
Northwind Dragons 61 - 12 M&L Team Banzai
The Banzai`ers have managed to secure an even dozen of objectives. Unfortunately for them the Dragons have more than five times as many.
Death Dealers 88 - 4 Slaughter House 5
The Slaughterers have managed to win a few clashes, but the Dealers have a successrate in excess of 95%.
Div 3
Death`s Collectors 25 - 29 T.B. BlackWatch
Lots of fighting have been seen, and BlackWatch is still in front. But the Collectors need only a handfull of wins to turn the tables, so this might be a Match to Watch.
Avengers of Bunny 28 - 36 Star League
The Leaguers are still in front. But the Bunnies have managed to keep contact, and might get past in a late offensive.
Div 4
Black Star Lycan Rangers 82 - 6 "Raging Vengeance"
The Rangers havean overwhelmng superiority here, but R.V. have at least gotten some wins.
M&L Black Cats 13th A.D. 71 - 90 Omegas
Lots of additional hard fights have seen the Omegas get past the Cats, and gain a lead of nearly a score objectives.
Div 5
Ronins 33 - 17 Black Star Renegades
The Ronins have managed to get past the Renegades, and have nearly twice as many wins as them at this point.
Heroes 52 - 22 Death`s Revenge
The Heroes have kept up the pressure and have won better than 70% of all fights.
Death`s Disturbed Asylum 30 - 22 Diamond Dragons
Since the last report both the Asylants and the Dragons have doubled their scores. Which leaves the Asylants with a decent advantage of 8 wins.
Mad Scientist.7 39 - 1 Alpha Legion
The Scientists seem to be in full control. Of the two-score clashes recorded, the Legion have only won one.
Div 6
Smurf Platoon 8 - 30 Chess Dragons
The Smurfs have managed to win another half-dozen clashes, but the Dragons have nearly four times as many wins.
Defenders of Bunny 90 - 12 Murderbots
Only an additional half-dozen fights have been reported. As Murderbots only won one of them, the Bunnies seem destined to emerge victorious.
***Raging Vengeance*** 9 - 9 ARMORED CORE
A few additional fights have brought R.V. and A.C. neck to neck. As the total amount of clashes seen until now is low, this looks like an actionfilled finish. Might be a Match to Watch.
Today and Tomorrow 32 - 20 M&L NecroMantics
T&T have managed to turn the tables, and are now a dozen wins in front of the Necromancers.
Div 7
Black Star Bandits 39 - 0 T.I.o.M.T.
The Bandits have continued to pummel the Toys, and have at this time claimed nearly two-score unopposed objectives.
M&L B.o.P.S. 21 - 15 Murdermechs
Some additional fighting have been seen. The Smurfs have increased their advantage a bit, but not enough to feel safe if Murdermech unleashes a late offensive.
T.B. 1st K.H. 32 - 1 Behemoth
The Highlanders have claimed additional wins, while Behemoth seem unable to get any more.
**R.V.** 3 - 30 M&L A.R.S.E.
R.V. have claimed only one more win. That puts them at 10% of the Smurfs score.
Div 8
JC`s Rowdy Bunch 25 - 28 Deaths Hecklers
The Bunch have claimed plenty of wins lately, and are not far behind the Hecklers. Will this be a Match to Watch?
Murdermech mini 14 - 44 Major Steel
Murdermech have secured a generous dozen of wins lately, but they are still score-and-half behind the Steelers.
Ronins 2 40 - 2 Karma II
Karma have gotten a couple wins, but as the Ronins have 20 times as many it looks pretty hopeless for them.
Active Sleepers 5 - 14 *Raging Vengeance*
The Sleepers have won a few more skirmishes and are within striking distance of R.V.
Div 9
Jagdstaffel 2 3 - 10 Karma
A bakers dozen fights have been registred. Karma have won the lions share, but lots of additional fighting is in the cards. This might well become a Match to Watch.
Mad Scientist 1 22 - 0 Cold Dead Hands
The Scientists have claimed better than a score unopposed wins. Will it give them the victory, or will a late offensive turn the tables?
I.N.A. 6 - 0 Dawn Patrol
The Alliance have claimed a half-dozen wins. If Dawn Patrol refuses to play that is enough for a win, but a late blitz might well change the outcome.
Murdermech Micro 40 - 25 U.G.F.
Plenty of additional action have been seen. Murdermech hold the whip hand for now, but a reversal of fortunes is not impossible.
Div 10
Borg Collective 35 - 33 RED AXE
More than three-score additional fights have been reported. For the moment the Borgs are a couple points in front of the Axemen, but that could change in moments. Looks like a thrilling finish to come, and probably a Match to Watch.
Banditos 1 - 8 House of Gowron
Less than two handfulls of skirmishes have been reported. The H.o.G.`s have a decent advantage, but perhaps the Bandits will steal the victory in the last moments.

WIP Galore
So, @rai-knightshade nominated me for the following after they were tagged in by someone else:
Write the latest line from your WIP (or post where you last left off in your art), and tag as many people as there are words in the line. Make a new post, don't reblog!
In my case this is a bit problematic, as I've got about five or six things ongoing at once. Some stories, some tabletop, some just ideas that I've noted down as an idea to get back to much later on, and a few that are just bullet points. So, let's just give the quick version.
The first of these was a competition from the Dark Jedi Brotherhood to write a story about a character reflecting upon their mistakes. This is being re-written and expanded upon, but the last line was an amusing one:
No other group their size would have been brazen or determined enough to reach the building amid a storm for just food and drink.
Another one that is a pure monologue, presented as a lesson to an unseen class:
“It shows our true selves, it reveals what we are to the galaxy."
The rest are a mix of ongoing efforts. I'm not about to show off commissions, so here's a bunch of restoration efforts and some personal projects which are in the pipeline.
Starting with a White Scars Kill-Team I'm finishing off:
The previously shown Thunder Warriors (this time with a close-up of a few I'm just presenting here):
A heavily customised Eldar Wraithknight that I started on and has sadly been on the back burner for a bit too long now:
A Bolt Action force that I bought up and I'm repainting (with the gun carrier here as a quick stand-in):
Some Gue'vesa that I'm working up bit by bit, but was delayed due to the wealth of goodies the Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum are getting:
A force of Eldar Exodites (some are done, others I'm working on, so here's the big dinosaur transport):
And a lot of Battletech (the King Crab here is one done by someone else, I'm just finishing it and using it as a reference for the rest of my ComStar mob before I move onto the Nova Cats and Northwind Highlanders):
So, now I need to tag in a few followers. I'm going to fudge the numbers a bit here, but this is everyone I can justify tagging:
@zrinboy (please follow him for tabletop things of every sort)
@royal-occultist-compendium (seriously follow him for brilliant stories)
@loktarogar (lots of fantastic tabletop stuff)
@jayadan (Game store owner, fantastic painter, and brilliant guy)
@carlageddon (a returning face to tabletop gaming with displays from the 90s)
@sirianddeanseethestars (owner of the blog of many fandoms among other things)
@explosiverunes (She with more models than God)
@mxmastermikah (With everything from 40K to Gunpla on their blog)
@radishgnome (with paintings, art and everything besides to show)
@kalamitykas (talented multimedia artist I was very glad to find on here after largely retreating from Twitter)
And that's all I can manage here.
