the meow meow beenz episode of Community was made before the black mirror episode with the same plot. I thought it was a parody, it's so similar, like down to the details of 3's wearing muted colors and people using their higher status to lower others, like these are just the same?? episodes???? they're different in a lot of ways, obviously, but I was 100% sure community was parodying Nosedive. everything is flipped upside down

thinking this morning about how the thesis of nosedive (black mirror) is that authentic communication is one of the tenets of human nature and if we sanitise communication and interaction and community then we take away part of what it is to be human

Duckvember Day 4: Diner Duck

Putting the jerk in soda jerk. Voted most likely to use the team credit card to buy something stupid and be forced to get a job in the off season to pay it off or something. I dunno. I haven’t drawn this man in 84 years. I also figured out my planner does NOT let me erase pencil. It just SMEARS. I cry.

If you’ve ever wondered what having Borderline Personality Disorder feels like I just rewatched Black Mirror’s Nosedive and yeah. That’s exactly what it feels like, just that entire episode. Just going about your day or your week with an encroaching sense of wrongness that you can’t shake no matter how hard you try and the harder you try to act normal and get through the day and keep other people placated the more cracked your facade gets and the more it feels like everyone can tell there’s something wrong with you and when the storm finally hits you’re just seething with resentment for everyone who couldn’t let you just go about your day without having to fight for it and it feels like people are being hypercritical on purpose to punish you for not performing well enough

Nosedive - Black Mirror
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS:  In a society where popularity is everything, people obsessively rate each other on a scale of 1 to 5. The protagonist, a young woman, depends on this social media platform for her self-worth. She receives a coveted invitation to a swanky wedding, but her journey to attend it is fraught with unexpected challenges. As she strives to reach her destiny, her popularity plummets, and she faces insanity-inducing obstacles along the way.
ANALYSIS: The episode generates an important reflection on the role that these tools play in our current society, warning about the possible risks of allowing social qualifications and external validation to have excessive power over our lives. It is considered how external validation through social networks can influence people's self-esteem and emotional well-being, generating a society where superficial appearance prevails over authenticity. The episode highlights both the positive aspects, such as the social connection facilitated by technology and the negative ones, as well as the risk of allowing it to excessively influence our perception of personal value and create pressures to maintain an idealized image.

8/10. It is a very interesting chapter in every way because you can also see a reality that happens in the world with social networks.
