okay, i understand. they need to have simpler drawings for the webcomic, because they're putting out more in a short amount of time. but.

god i know trust me i know i try not to say anything directly about the art and focus more on the choices actively being made but. sometimes it is. very rough asdjkahdkjs

like just to put a few examples that i think were the most noticeable

so like. yeah.

i tried to choose moments that were the closest to the novel illustrations but it was actually kinda difficult cause,,,, the webtoon skips and changes quite a bit lol

to be clear this is not me saying the webcomic art is bad, not at all, get that thought out of your head right now. from a purely skill based point of view, the webcomic is quite amazing, they put a lot of effort into every chapter and there are some panels that are just fantastic,,, that being said the style they choose isn't quite what i would've gone with to make an adaptation of tged ajskhdkja

and i personally would sacrifice a few of the high effort lloyd ugly faces in exchange for better coloring in a couple panels lol

but yeah tldr i got spoiled by the webnovel illustrations and now i suffer through a completely different style in the webcomic 😔

Hair Headcanons for the Feanorians:

Maedhros: Got Nerdanel's red hair, but filtered through Finwean Hair Magic™️, so instead of looking like normal red hair it looks like flickering flames, with deeper red tones and golden orange highlights, especially under Laurelin. After Angband, the gray streaks in his hair add the illusion of smoke. On the battlefield of Beleriand, he wears his fiery hair long and loose, almost an invitation to try and grab it. Taking that invitation is usually the last mistake his enemies ever make.

Maglor: Has dark, wavy hair with iridescent blue tones inherited from Feanor. Sometimes he puts some blue sparkle in it to really enhance the effect. It's always perfectly wavy and bouncy, and often tied into complicated up-dos for his appearances in Valinorean theaters and concert halls. His hair remains suspiciously luscious and styled even after thousands of years of being a beach hermit. His clothes are tattered, his skin is dirty, his eyes are bloodshot, but somehow, even the driftwood in his hair looks fresh and artistic.

Celegorm: He inherited his albinism from Miriel, and like her, has very light blonde/white hair. But because of the Finwean Hair Magic™️ his light hair actually has opalescent tones– light blues, greens, pinks, and oranges can all be seen in it from different angles. This is part of why he's called "the fair," his hair is light, but it's also as fair and beautiful as a polished opal.

Caranthir: Dark, relatively straight hair, with iridescent purple tones inherited from Feanor. A tangle has never been spotted in it, and he often keeps it up to avoid even the slightest chance of it getting dirty. He particularly appreciates the purple undertones in Beleriand, where purple dye is associated with luxury– it makes him look even richer than he already is. (tax fraud pays very, very well)

Curufin: Has hair very much like Feanor's, but his undertones are mostly on the green/teal side. Like Feanor, his hair doesn't really burn, even when it ends up in the forge fires, and as a result, he actually invents a kind of prototype curling iron and uses it to style his hair, since the heat doesn't damage it. He eventually abandons the curling iron, only for a young Celebrimbor to find it a few centuries later.

Amras: He's the darker haired one of the twins, and his hair is more reddish-brown than properly red. It's very shiny, and curly, and has very deep, rich colors. After Losgar, the ends of it always look dark and scorched.

Amrod: He's the lighter haired one of the twins, with hair that's more orange. It's bushy, shiny, and only Finwean Hair Magic™️ keeps it from being an absolute nightmare to brush. After he almost burns at Losgar, it becomes significantly darker, and loses some of its shine. Amrod always wore his hair long in Valinor, but typically wears it pretty short in Beleriand.

Physical appearance

Hair color ranges from dark brown, light brown , ginger, & blonde highlights (Their natural hair color is mostly brown but they could dye it or a few of them are actually blonde/ginger). Their hair texture is coily, curly, or wavy. They are most likely light skinned or mixed race (I'm seeing mostly black, white, or middle eastern. This message could only be for a few but I heard someone's fp/fs could be Somalian, Moroccan, or Israeli to be specific). They have hazel eyes (eye color is a mix of green, aqua, gold, or amber). They have freckles and moles. Skintone is warm and medium or medium deep (tawny, olive, or brown). Your fp/fs's body could be more bottom heavy. If they are more feminine I'm seeing a pear shaped figure and if they are more masculine I'm seeing that they have strong legs. This person could like to workout or they are in involved in sports because they have strong lower body muscles (wide hips, big butt, thick thighs, toned calves, etc). Sagittarius & Leo could be prominent in their birth chart. Sun or Jupiter dominant.

Physical Appearance

This pile's fp/fs is pretty unique! For some people in this pile, their fs/fp could have vitiligo. It's as if they have two skintones for some reasons. So either this person could have vitiligo, they either get very pale in the winter and dark in the summer, or they could have used tanners or skin bleaching creams growing up. I'm also seeing that this person could strictly only wear black, gray, and white - no colors. They like to be like a panda 🐼. For their hair color I'm seeing its gray, white, silver, platinum blonde, or bleached. They could like to wear wigs or their head is shaved at the moment. If the fp is a feminine they like to wear their hair very long while the masculine likes their hair very short, almost like a buzzcut. They also have dark brown almost pitch black eyes. Your fp/fs could have some type of scar on there face or body, perhaps from a burn, fight, or some sort of accident. Their body is angular, lean, and toned. This person likes to include stars in their aesthetic ☆. They could like y2k fashion or subversive fashion. I'm thinking of the brand "Chrome hearts". This person could be alternative or like being involved in that culture. They could be goth specifically which would explain why their skin color varies (some goths like to paint their face white). This person is white and their cultural heritage could either be Greek, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian, Portuguese, or Argentian. They have dark brown hair and it's straight with a slight bend of wave or curls. Their hair is very voluminous and shiny. Their skin ranges from pale to medium. Their eye color could be blue, brown, or green. For some other physical features they could have a prominent nose, dark circles, red lips, and a beauty mark either under their eye or next to their mouth. If feminine, their body is hourglass shape with hip dips. If masculine, they have wide shoulders, and have more of a inverted triangle shape. Your fp/fs' style is very refined and posh. It's giving "old money" vibes. Rolexes, white Polo shirts, khakis, linen blouses, diamond necklaces, etc. They could have Taurus placements as well as a Venus dominance.

I feel for most people in this pile their fs/fp naturally has ginger, reddish hair or they have brown hair with reddish undertones. They have dark brown eyes, pale skin, freckles, rosy cheeks, and heart shaped lips. They could look like a cat or have features similar to cat. Their eyes are big and upturned. Your fp/fs is either east asian or "wasian" (half white half east asian). Their style is grunge with warm autumn tones or they dress very colorful (they could wear a lot of primary colors with brown and green). This person has a very rich, deep skintone. If your fp/fs was a man they would remind me of the saying "tall, dark, and handsome". I'm seeing that they are either Black or South Asian. They have thick curly/coily hair and it's the color onyx. Their eyes are the color chocolate brown. They have a balanced and proportionate body type. I feel that this person really embodies having Venusian energy and could have Libra prominent in their birth chart. Their style is casual with a touch of luxury. They like to wear black blazers, white shirts, sundresses, gold hoops, pearls, and jewels. I'm seeing purple, red, and green (sapphires, rubies, emeralds, etc) so they could like to wear very regal colors as well or they could just look like royalty.

Spray-Painted Spiders (A PunkFlower ficlet)

A/N: In my day job, I work not far from the Leake Street tunnel, a tunnel in London's Southbank totally covered in amazing graffiti. One day, I was walking through and couldn't help but imagine how Miles might react to the place, and this little fic started to write itself in my head...

Originally I was going to have Gwen and Pav join them, but I decided to keep it simple, just Miles and Hobie, and then it turned PunkFlower-ish ;) How to impress your artistic, graffiti-loving crush, by Hobie Brown: bring him to the Leake Street tunnel :D

Miles' whistle echoed around the walls of the tunnel, every inch of them covered in colourfully-painted portraits and landscapes and swirling abstract patterns.

"So people paint... this whole tunnel?" he asked, gaping at their surroundings. "Don't the cops stop them?"

Hobie shrugged fluidly. The two of them were in casual clothing, spider suits tucked away underneath, and the dim light illuminated the smirk on Hobie's face. "They try," he said. "But we're persistent. Besides, they don't like to come down here too much. It's considered an "unsavoury" area."

Miles was busy leaning back to marvel at the ceiling, which was covered in an intricate black and white design. "Woah, how did they get up there?"

The longer his eyes travelled over it, the more the geometric design started to resemble something... familiar. Something like a series of spiralling, interlocking spider webs. "Did you...?"

Hobie's smirk was decidedly wolfish now. Miles was glad that the dark concealed his pink cheeks. "It could use some flair, I think," he said. He unslung the backpack on his shoulder and took out a can of red spray paint, which he presented to Miles with a flourish. "You up for it?"

Miles reached out to accept the spray can, and their fingers brushed. He answered Hobie's grin with his own. "Yeah, man."

Under cover of darkness, masks pulled down to cover their faces, the two Spiders leapt lightly up the walls and clung to the ceiling. Miles stared at the black and white canvas that stretched out below him. It wasn't often that he built on someone else's work, but this design... Colour leapt into his mind's eye, weaving in and out of the spaces between the webs. He could see it so easily. Mesmerised, and not even aware of Hobie watching him, Miles shook the paint can and got to work.

Hours later, the faint glow of sunrise was creeping into the mouth of the tunnel as Miles and Hobie beheld their completed masterpiece. The webs seemed to glow, highlighted with bright shades of neon green and yellow, while in and around the strands crawled spiders in vivid blue and red. Down the walls, spiders crawled and hid in the crevices of the other artists' work, even scuttling across the floor.

Miles eyed his last strokes critically, adding some pale blue highlights to a hanging spider. It was Hobie's turn to give a low whistle, and Miles looked over to see him nodding slowly in approval.

"It looks good. It looks really good."

Miles thrilled inside, even as he tried his best to play it cool. "Not bad, right?"

He could no longer see Hobie's face beneath the mask, but there was a smile in the older Spider's voice as he answered, "Not bad at all."

Miles took a breath to say something more - and then a shout cut through the air.

"HEY!"

The two half-turned, muscles coiled to spring at the first sign of danger. A police officer stood at the entrance to the tunnel, mouth hanging open. "What the hell..."

Hobie reached out a hand, and Miles took it without a second thought. "Let's Scapa Flow," he said in an undertone, and though Miles had no idea what that meant, he got the message. He squeezed back, and Hobie pulled him along as they sprinted into the dark of the tunnel.

Footsteps sounded and a whistle blew, but the officer was no match for the two Spiders. As soon as they got far enough into the tunnel that they'd be hidden from view, Hobie fired a web and leapt into the air, and Miles followed him. Soon, they were out and swinging through the silvery grey London dawn.

There was no-one around to notice the two figures that alighted on top of the stationary Ferris wheel overlooking the river. Miles was panting a tiny bit from the sudden chase, and with a glance at Hobie, he raised his mask. Hobie followed suit a second later.

"So, d'you like it, then?" Hobie asked.

"Like it? It's amazing. Your world is amazing," Miles couldn't help but enthuse. Playing it cool had kind of gone out the window, but he was too suffused with adrenaline and the thrill of the moment to care. He saw Hobie smile, genuinely pleased.

"You know you can come here any time," Hobie said.

"You mean... like Gwen comes here any time?" Miles couldn't help cautiously checking. Hobie glanced over and raised an eyebrow.

"Maybe a bit different to that," he said. Miles looked at Hobie's profile, wondering if it was the pink glow of sunrise touching his face or something else. He thought he knew what Hobie meant, but he wasn't sure how to be sure. Looking back across the water, Miles was searching for the right words when he felt soft lips press against his cheek.

He turned, surprised, and Hobie drew back a tiny bit, but still so close, his dark eyes searching Miles' features. "Too much?" he checked.

Miles smiled, knowing that he didn't need to find the right words after all. "Just right," he said, and leaned in to kiss Hobie on the mouth.

A/N: Scapa Flow = go (Cockney Rhyming slang)

In the real Leake Street tunnel, graffiti is actually legal, and it's quite a tourist hotspot, but since this is Hobie's world I decided to make it a more underground, subversive spot. But I kept the London Eye so that they could have a romantic moment afterwards on top of the Ferris wheel ;)

The tunnel really does have artwork on the ceiling - probably not painted by Spider-people, but who knows :D Here are some photos from my recent visit (the artwork changes every time):

Can you give us a more detailed description of the Untited IF ROs? Only if you have one for them.

Astorian/Astoria: Black hair, that has an almost iridescent quality similar to that of a raven’s wing, falls to just beneath Astorian’s ears and just a bit over Astoria’s shoulders. A tanned complexion, that has a warm undertone, bringing out the brightness of their gray eyes. They have a toned physique from years of training.

William/Wilhelmina: Dark brown hair, with subtle highlights of auburn and gold, is cut short— while still retaining the strands natural curls. Light brown skin, that’s dotted by a few scars, brings out the brilliance of their blue gaze. They have a muscular/athletic physique from their time within the Holy Order training to be where they are now.

Gabriel/Gabrielle: White hair, that’s reminiscent of freshly fallen snow, brings out the golden-brown of their complexion, falling to Gabriel’s shoulders and just over Gabrielle’s shoulder blades. Amber eyes, that sparkle underneath any light, are filled with a boundless sense of keen intellect. They have a slender, almost wiry, physique that hums with the power hidden beneath the surface.

Ilyran/Ilyria: Hair the color of the finest spun gold, or liquid sunlight, falls to Ilyran’s shoulders and to Ilyria’s mid-back. The fairness of their complexion offsetting the almost luminous quality of their green eyes. They have a lean build. Of course, that’s what the Old Texts the cult has depicts them appearing to be— most of it mere speculation… It’s been quite some time since they have actually appeared that way.

Wash Red with Black

While red is arguably one of the coolest colors. Cool as in awesome not as in shades of blue cool. English is a stupid language. Already on a tangent. I have focus issues. I probably don't need to say that because it's obvious but just in case. I have focus issues, deal with it or don't read my blog. I ramble from time to time. Oddly though, if I could get ClipChamp to work today I was going to post my sermon on here which I don't normally do because it is just plain a phenomenal sermon centered around one of the Eldritch Terrors from the last Season of The Chilling Tales of Sabrina. Yes, I preach on some amazing topics. The Bible and Pop Culture can merge as one... if you read it right. If you're reading anything other than love God, love your neighbor, love yourself: Try Again, you've failed to understand the message. There is nothing normal about me and... I have focus issues. I blame the dog licking my elbow right now... weird little animal. So cute, though.

Back to the red. Awesome color. Pain in the ass to work with. It doesn't really have dark and light shades like other colors. There is red and then... there's pink which is not red and does not look good as a highlight most of the time. There is red and then... there is brown, also not red. Red shades reasonably well with black for the shadows and depth. But doesn't always feel right depending on the undertone. Sometimes orange works, sometimes a peach will work, sometimes white works if you make sure the red is dry so they don't mix together. Kind of like you can't paint a yellow sun in a blue sky or you will just have a green sky which means the end of the world or a tornado is coming. Red is a pain but if you get it to work: Amazing.

Oh! The shield! I have this weird Green Stuff Paint I was just dying to try out called Evil Forest. What a great name for a color. You'll see it on the pants of Hatchet and on this Red Guard's shield and weapon. It is supposed to be a color change between red and green creating that weird effect you can see in the picture if you look close of green stripes but in metallic and... I got to try out a new paint with varying results. It's intended more as a spray paint but since I don't like to spray unless it's primer, I brushed it. Results varied... tremendously. Added into the list of "Things I Will Do Someday" is to figure out if it works better lightly brushed on in multiple coats or one heavy coat. I would hazard a guess the latter is the correct option. When it comes to painting, multiple thin coats is statistically your best choice unless your paint is too thin in which case then it just fills in all the beautiful details without coloring the surface. Also on the "Things I Will Do Someday" itinerary: Make videos instead of blogs with photos... or do both.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson: Skin Tones and Sneaky Fashion Tricks

Had time, a bit of curiosity, and no real motivation to do any "work" this weekend; so, I popped open a photo editing app; used the dropper tool to extract David Duchovny's and Gillian Anderson's skin tones, hair colors, and eye colors; then had a some fun comparing them to their Seasonal Color palettes (post here.)

Behold: what happens when a girl just wants to have a little fun~.

**Note**: Just realized I've already created a post like this before (here). Consider this a less crazed follow up~.

DAVID DUCHOVNY

(Pictured: David's skin, hair, and eye colors are labeled 'DD' while his Soft Autumn palette colors are labeled 'SA'.)

Monsieur (feelin' fancy today) Duchovny's skin tone is primarily very soft and very low contrast: as we know, too much brightness or richness or lightness or darkness quickly overwhelms him. And because his undertone's warm hue is a secondary feature-- not a primary one-- any color that is "soft" or muted will look better on him than one that is bright and warm (ex. a Light Spring yellow) or rich and warm (ex. a True Autumn orange.)

Too Warm and Too Cool

Even when DD's pictures are professionally edited to appear warmer, cooler, brighter, darker, etc., the muted warmth in his skin still peeks through.

In the above left picture: the photo is given a rich warm wash. However, David's skin still appears less intense than his very dark jacket and very light pants, and less rich than his luxuriously relaxed green button up. I

n the above right picture: David's warmth shines over the cool overexposure added in post-- the two pink colors to his left were only located and extracted after hovering over a particularly blinding white patch of his skin.

Younger and Older

Young or old, David's soft, warm hue is inescapable.

Even when a little paler and a little more salt-and-pepper, his grays lean warm instead of cool and his sunburns lean red-orange instead of red-pink.

While not his best color, the softened black background in the above left picture helps blend more naturally with DD's skin. The very bright, very cool white backdrop (and darker, less malleable jacket) to the right, however, stands out against and easily overpowers it.

Lastly, we see David in cool, bright colors for contrast.

Above, left: The brightness of David's white shirt dominates his primary muted quality; and the coolness of its hue clashes with the warmth of his neck, further highlighting (in detail) the sunburn patches along his chest and neck. (If the color were matching, the sunburn would still be visible but more smoothly "washed out" rather than easily mapped out and traced.)

Above, right: The brightness of David's shirt, again, overpowers his skin tone-- if you squint at the photo, the juxtaposition between the clothes and "him" are stark, not compatibly blended. In fact, the wall behind DD's head-- while not a perfect color match-- would work better because it allows "David" to be seen before "clothes." And, again, the black (and blue) color is too pigmented and too cool, standing out further against the redness in his undertone.

GILLIAN ANDERSON

Mademoiselle (the fancy feeling continues) Gillian's skin tone is primarily very bright: as we know, any color too muted will dull the natural radiance to her skin, making her appear more drab or tired or "off." And because her undertone's cool hue is a complementary feature, any color that is very bright (ex. a Clear Spring orange or Light Spring green) will harmonize with her features better than a cool muted one (ex. a Light Summer gray or Soft Summer purple.)

But here's where Gillian (and her team) demonstrate the chameleon ability of fashion: knowing your colors and your limitations, and how to bend them.

Behold, the power of spray tan:

As used by every other model and celebrity that walks the red carpet nowadays, spray tan helps shift one's skin tone more warm (red or orange or etc.) as per the client's or stylist's needs.

Gillian prefers to wear her hair warm blonde; but if she wore that blonde without disguising her cool undertone, it would appear unnatural or brassy or "separate than" herself. So, she uses spray tan to tint the pink into peach or beige, blending her head-to-toe cohesively.

Too Warm, Too Edited, and Just Right

Lighting, again, is very important when spotting a person's true skin tone.

In the above, Gillian is wearing the same dress and hairstyle. The only difference between her left and right picture is the post-production editorial touchup, which turned GA's entire ensemble golden (left.) The coolness of her undertone can still be spotted when compared to the wall behind her; but is, of course, clearly visible when shown in tempered, more natural lighting (right.)

In the left photo, GA's bright blue eyes and bright chroma stand out against the warm, rich, burnt orange backdrop while her "pinkness" becomes more apparent in the right's outdoors daylight.

And lastly, Gillian looks quite charming in light chroma (a.k.a. Bright or Clear) photoshoots, her skin illuminated and in its element.

The differences between the left and the right are mainly in their hues: the warm beige-brown shirt on the left is slightly too warm for her neck (making it appear more red than pink, despite a lack of sunburn) while the cool white dress on the right perfectly matches both her sun-reddened hands and the pale inner part of her arm.

DAVID AND GILLIAN IN THEIR COLORS

I found a few photos of DD and GA in differing lighting and stages of their life.

Despite the darkness of the room, the photographer excellently captured Gillian and David's true skin tones: his medium apricot red and her pale red-pink.

The iconic 2021 selfie: the lighting overhead is too warm, making them both appear more red than they would in natural light; yet, despite that, Gillian still sports cool undertones in her extracted semi-circle compared to David's muted warm rectangle and dots.

DD's Soft Autumn skin matches up with the Soft Autumn palette; and the paint-over brings out a nice, surprising olive in his undertone.

GA's Clear (also known as Bright) Winter skin matches up with the Clear (also known as Bright) Winter palette; and the paint-over brings out even more lightness and brightness from her undertone, unveiling yet another layer of luminosity.

This last paint-over proves that David's Soft Autumn and Gillian's Bright Winter would have worked rather well in the Revival series. (In fact, I'm pretty sure the suit he's wearing is-- at least in this shot-- already an Autumn muted blue. The blue shirt she's wearing is definitely a Winter.)

I also tried, a little, to match their silhouettes to their Kibbe body types (posts here and here); and even threw in an Ingenue Essence bowtie for the fun of it (Kitchener Essence posts here and here.)

ALTERNATE SEASONS

For the fun of it, I threw David and Gillian into three other paint-overs.

...Only three because Tumblr is a cruel mistress who blocked me from uploading more.

David looks more awake and less bogged down by two layers of (bulky) blue colors on the left compared to the singular, leaner layer of blue on the right. Meanwhile, Gillian's skin looks more luminous and healthily flushed on the left in contrast to the yellower, paler, slightly sickly color on the right.

Oh, David. Never change.

Spring blue makes David's skin look waxy and sick; Summer blue is too cool against the red-gold-olive of his undertone; Autumn blue blends right into its mixture; and Winter blue stands right out and far away from it.

Gillian's skin agrees with the brightness but not the hue of Spring Blue (top left); disagrees with the muted depth of Summer Blue (top right); responds to the richness but rivals against the warmth of Autumn blue (bottom left); and sings harmoniously with the chroma and hue of Winter blue (bottom right.)

Colour Symbolism: Katherine

Kitty’s outfit is what I consider another kind of clothing deception. Burgundy is a symbol of power and wealth, which are both not significant to Kitty. It’s a representation of her family, whilst the ambition aspect shows Kitty’s excitement for love and life. Kitty seems to have a fondness for bows in her dresses, incorporating a part of her unique personality. Burgundy applies to her individuality, which is further highlighted by the use of bows. Pink is Kitty’s signature colour in a large fraction of her dresses, and with a combination of orange, represents a sense of youth and enthusiasm. 

The pink and orange of the bows stands out apart from the burgundy, as it conventionally should, but also represents the exclusion Eleanor exerts over Kitty from their family. Okay, now Kitty’s pink looks- 

Her blue dress is in a scene where Eleanor knocks over her cards. Light blue is commonly associated with trust and reliability, something Kitty has in her sister. It brings feelings of peace, which she feels when alone and content. An undertone of pink coupled with blue implies she is hopeful in love, as we know Kitty to be very excited by the prospect. In this scene, Eleanor is wearing (what I assume is) white-

She presents herself as both equally hopeful and angelic. She presents herself as trustworthy to Kitty in an act of deception, allowing Kitty to lower her guard. Her first look being white throws you off to begin with despite what we’ve already heard about her. The maliciousness of her actions become more clear leading to the end, when she wears the dark dress. Eleanor’s descent shows the gradual revealing of her real personality. 

Kitty’s other pink look is worn when possible suitors arrive, further enforcing Kitty’s pursuit of love. It is a stereotypically feminine and youthful colour, showing Kitty’s naïveté in love. Kitty’s other looks are either light blue or green, which are decidedly less intense than Eleanor’s, showing Kitty’s more kind and open nature. 

In the scene she accidentally breaks the urn, Kitty is wearing greenish bluish colour, which may have been used to frame her in a more malicious light with the envy symbolism. Eleanor wears yellow, presenting herself as more positive and optimistic to frame herself as a victim. Kitty’s light colours show her honesty and innocence which is contradicting her memory of Eleanor’s actions, as she knows something is wrong. 

Knowing Eleanor, yellow is another representation of deception, appearing sincere to her father and to Kitty. Eleanor’s other looks are dark greens, showing that she was the jealous one. Kitty’s dresses are rarely dark, her burgundy one being the exception. This shows the contrast between them, Kitty being oblivious to Eleanor’s malicious intent.

HI! yes, I for sure can explain this to you because its actually really easy. so under the cut I'll make a tutorial on how to get this lip focus effect on my gifs.

I'm going to be using oscar because he is the most naturally blushy person on the grid but I'll also quickly explain things you'll have to watch out for with different skintones.

so, the big trick to this is to make sure your lips/blush are a contrasting colour in comparison to the rest of your gif.

(think about the colour wheel, green is the opposites side of purple)

lips tend to have a more purple/red hue to them while skin tends to be more orange/yellow in undertone. so what we're gonna start with doing is adding contrast and making sure greens and blue's are heavier then the yellow/red is.

I prefer using curves and colour balance for this as you can play around a lot and use the dropper tool in curves to make your life easier

now, I like adding a few more layers of colour balance and channel mixer to try and neutralize the colour even more but this all depends on the raw footage and on the skintone.

now that we're happy with our neutralizing colour we're gonna be grabbing hue/saturation which is THE big trick to this colouring

you're gonna grab the lil hand tool at the top left and click on the darkest part of the lips

now this is what your hue/saturation should look like. we're going to focus on the little bottom part and we're going to expand the little tabs and slide it to the more puple part of the colour line.

then, we're going to slide UP the saturation so far as it looks natural, you should be able to instantly see a difference (if you dont, slide around the little tabs until you do see the lips brighten up) I like to darken the lightness too to make the colour a bit more neutral.

with this part you have to watch out with different skintones.

every person has different under tones, people with white skin tend to lean more pinkish while darker skintones especially lewis has more yellow skintones, because of this you will probably make lewis's skin FAR to yellow which is obviously NOT good.

you can still use this style with those skintones you just have to watch out more, neutralize better and get the sliders more purple as their lips also tend to have more purple tones in them.

here's a fantastic tutorial how to get rid of yellow tones in black skin if you do run into this problem with your colouring.

now, you have your basic lip blush, from this moment on you can do whatever you want with the colouring, I like to neutralize more after this, so adding another few layers of colour balance.

then I tend to go into the red and yellow of selective colour and manually play around with making the lips/blush more coherent with the rest of the lighting.

to simplify this I'm only going to show yellow and red but I normally use all colours on selective colour.

and then I just add my normal colouring which can be whatever you like to do. I like adding more contrast and highlight spaces to add more depth to his face and I almost always add one more layer of hue/saturation which will make his blush and lips pop out even more.
