a/n: no title bc i couldn’t think of one plus this isn’t rlly a fic, js a lil smth i was thinking about. the last part of it was inspired by this su comic i read, though i can't remember what it was called..

heart beat, negative, lungs, deactivated, body, comprised.

you stared in horror as griot read you her vitals, her blood was all over your face, hands and clothes, but you didn’t dare wipe it.

there, your wife laid, impaled. red liquid pooling from her mouth and nose, her eyes were lifeless, she made no movement.

“would you like me to contact the others, ms.y/n?”

you gave no response to the ai, as everything slowly started to tune out, you couldn’t hear the outside world anymore, you couldn’t see it. all you could see your beloved laying on the ground in her own pool of blood.

the attack had begun earlier this evening. namor had decided he had wanted to cut off the deal they had both made, in fear of shuri lying to him and double crossing his nation.

“ms.y/n?”

he hadn’t done anything flashy like the last time he flooded the city. he instead got shuri alone. she was on her nightly visit to the beach just outside the woods, the last place her and her mother truly connected before she was taken from her. she would make sure there were no dora with her, not even you and namor must’ve known.

as she reminisced, the young monarch noticed the serpent god emerging from the ocean. she hadn’t treated him like an enemy, but she was still on edge whenever he was around.

“what is it that you want?”

“do you truly have the intention of us building an alliance?” his question threw the scientist off, is that not what she had said? almost everyone who knew shuri personally knew that she never backed down on her word, no matter how bad the person was. but, she supposed she could see his suspicions.

“yes, i told you, you had my word on that. wakanda would protect your oceans as long as you promised never to show up here again.”

“did you? or did you let me believe it?” he began hovering towards her, until his feet landed on the warm sand. shuri stood and began creating distance between them.

“what are you talking about?”

“you never truly wanted us to be allies, did you, queen?”

“stay away from me—“ shuri was known to be fearless her whole life, never being one to back down from a challenge or tell someone off, when most people would be peeing their pants or running the other way. but she can’t deny, for these past 3 years, she’s been feeling the opposite of fearless, like she’s just been waiting for the last thing to tip her over and have her bursting into tears.

“do you think i am an imbecile? that i know you seek vengeance of me killing your mother.”

“what? no—“

her reached her to where there were only a few centimeters between them.

“you cross me, and i warned you, i wipe wakanda off the face of the earth..”

shuri then felt some sharp come in contact with her abdomen, she finally took her fear-struck eyes off the aquatic ruler and down at the large, sharp spear. in the exact same spot he wounded her the last time they had battled.

“it won’t heal twice..” he spit, venom laced within his words.

she tried to open her mouth to speak but nothing but swift breaths of air would egress.

“please..” she let out breathlessly, though she got no response, no remorse. he let her collapse to the ground, eyeing her vengefully as she struggled to take in oxygen.

“do not worry, i’m granting you your wish. you should be thanking me..” was the last thing he heard from him before he yanked his weapon from her middle.

“ms.y/n, would you like me to request for assistance?”

you should’ve been there. you should’ve stayed with her, something in your gut told you something wasn’t right.

“are you sure she’s alright, i mean— she’s been out there for almost an hour an a half. i know y’all want me to give her her space to mourn but.. i just don’t know.. i think i should go check on her, just to be sure.” you paced around the dining room, after you, shuri, and everyone else had invited them to dinner. it was routine for your wife to sit outside and reminisce, so you didn’t bother her about it tonight.

“i hope you know that little panther is going to say something.” mbaku snorted as he picked up a final carrot from the display plate. you ignored his warning and went out to find her.

“shuri? baby, are you alright?” you called out to her and got no answer, until you reached closer and heard faint coughs, your eyebrows scrunched in confusion as you continued to tread carefully, “shuri?”

the sight you saw once you finally reached her was something you could never have prepared for.

“ms.y/n, i really think we should call for assistance!”

“oh god!” you screamed, quickly running up to her as she laid, choking on her own blood. you placed your hands over her wound, hoping to stop the blood the was gushing all over her clothes.

“shuri— please, you can’t do this right now!” you watched her as she only coughed, her chest rising up in down in quick haste as she tried her hardest to breathe.

tears streamed down your cheeks as you tried to calm yourself, attempting to remain strong so your emotions wouldn’t make the situation worse, “you can fight it baby, come on! you’re gonna be okay!” you picked off two kimoyo beads from your bracelet and set them into her wound swiftly.

"these should heal it, you're gonna be okay, you hear me?" you placed one hand on the side of her face while keeping the other onto her wound.

shuri didn't know this would be how she would go. she had so much she wanted to say to you, but not enough time. all she could do was look at you and hope that you could hear her every thought. despite all her hardships and stress, the best part of her day would be coming home to see you. you soothed her somehow; in a way she couldn't explain. and how badly did she want you to know. seeing your distressed and horrified face only made her realize that she should've expressed all of this to you sooner.

she did make sure that the last thing, the last person, she looked at was you. she wanted your face to be the last thing she saw before she went, that way she could go peacefully.

she ignored your cries and your pleads, and pretended it was just you and her, sitting on this very beach, listening to the waves crash against the rocks and the sound of the few occasional elephants' trunks as they took their child through the water. she imagined you two sitting her and enjoying each other's company, rather than the reality of you holding the other as they clung on to life.

"shuri please, i'm right here!" you cried hysterically as you rested your head on your wife's chest, trying your best to soothe her.

soon you could no longer hear shuri's gasps, and her chest had stopped its quick motion. and that only frightened you more.

your head shot up immediately only to see shuri's lifeless eyes staring back at you. you didn't call out to her this time; you didn't shake her. you just looked.

you looked.

you held her frail body in your hands and looked.

"y/n!" instead of hearing the ai pester your once more, you heard the general, one who your wife loved dearly. she stood still as she watched the scene before her. the recently crowned queen, the last of the royal family, was now gone. and her wife sat over her, shocked in fear.

"my queen.." she hesitated, walking steadily towards you.

"no.." you whispered, voice almost hoarse, your eyes staying on your beloved, as if she would emerge back to life if you stared long enough.

"please.. just let me—"

"she's cold.."

"y/n.."

"get her a blanket, okoye, she's cold.." you cradled her into your chest, holding her tightly.

"y/n, please!"

"i don't want her to be by herself.." the only thing that was freaking the general out was how you were talking about the young scientist.. as if she were still here. as if she wasn't laying lifeless in your arms. throughout her entire journey of being part of the dora milage, this had got to be the most frightening thing she'd seen, just after the loss of queen romanda.

"s-shes okay, okay? i'm just staying with her.. i don't want her to be alone.. she doesn't need to be alone." you rambled as you rocked back and forth, still holding your wife, just like you used to when she would come to you crying, and you were the only one who could ever make her feel better.

okoye sighed, she didn't even bother to ask how this happened or why, it wasn't the time. she only joined you both on the ground and brought your face into the crook of her neck as you broke down in her arms.

"i'm right here, udade omncinci, i'm right here.." she only sat there and comforted you, letting a few tears trickle down her cheeks as well.

I wish I could begin to explain. I got moat of this from tiktok. But j.cole and drake released a song last year called first person shooter where j Cole was like we the big three (Kendrick Lamar, Drake and himself)

Recently on a track w future and metro boomin Kendrick had a feature and literally said "fuck the big three it's just big me" and popped shots primarily at Drake tho jcole caught some too.

(Warning my timeline on the next two events may be backwards. They happened kinda fast)

JC dropped a diss track called might delete later, talking on Kendrick. However Cole said something to the effect of "actually this ain't right in Mt spirit so I'm taking it down." Resulting in people clowning on him (little did we know)

Drake dropped push ups, taking shots at Kendrick and also other people??? But it was mostly about Kendrick being short and some other shit

Shortly after that drake drops a now deleted song that had not one but two AI voiced verses, one from Snoop Dogg and one FROM TUPAC (which is insane) he caught a cease and desist letter from the Tupac estate and drake deleted it

Everything's quiet for a minute. And then April 30th happens.

Kendrick finally responds to drake with a 6 minute diss track titled euphoria. It's fairly brutal. There's literally a bar in it that goes "I hate the way you talk I hate the way you walk I hate the way you dress" calling drake out on being a culture vulture, asking when he'd have enough features to finally feel black enough other rightful but insane stuf. Also, Kendrick was straight like "I hate the way you say [n word]" and then ends the song with "we don't wanna here you say [nword] no more."

Silence. And then may 3rd middle of the night kdot drops ANOTHER DISS TRACK on insta called 6:16 in LA. Which is at the very least a rip on the way drake titles his stuff. This one proceeds to tell drake that there's a mole in his house feed Kendrick this shit. There's a lot more to that one but it keeps happening

Shortly after that drake drops "family matters" its again a wide spray type thing, calling Kendrick short, shooting at others that type a shit. The thing to note is drake was like "don't you beat ur wife? Ain't one of those kids not urs" which is wild bc Kendrick even came out a while ago on Mr Morales album and said he and his wife had some problems but they were working them out behind closed doors and drakes just dragging that shit out all over again. Also he opens the song saying the n word but by all accounts (the black people I watch on tiktok) He made it sound weird coming out of his mouth. Plus he had a weird slave reference line in it??? Left people feeling a little sus about it

AND THEN. Kendrick drops THIRTY MINITES LATER. THREE ZERO (30) drops Meet the Grahams. Bitch (neutral but I'm excited) Kendrick starts the song TALKING TO DRAKES SON. APOLOGIZING TO ADIONS THAT HIS FATHER SUCKS AND IS A BAD DAD. He then goes on to talk to drakes parents, telling his mother "your sons a sick man with sick thoughts. Aought to be with weinstien in that cell" ecta talking about how drake and the OVO protects predators and gives em allowances and shit

It gets worse in meet the graham's. THE THIRS VERSE STARTS W dear baby girl. This verse basically implies drake has ANOTHER HIDDEN CHILD???? but this one might be a girl and also ELEVEN YEARS OLD. Kendrick is eating drake alive

And now as of May 4th, Kendrick dropped ANOTHER DISS called not like us FLAT OUT CALLING DRAKE A PEDOPHILE. Like "I know you like them young. [...] trying to strike a cord, probably a minorrrrr" to some other crazy shit. PLUS HE SAYS HES GOT MORE???? WHAT ELSE JS THERE

There is far more nuance then I'm giving but this is the bare bones crazy shit going rn in the hip hop rap game world. This all started with Megan Thee Stallion when she dropped HISS bc as much as people wanna say kt was all about Nicki Minaj, there were lines in there Abou Drake. Kendrick Lamar saw the opening and took, trying to put that bitch in the ground.

Its insane and it's only may. And drake hasn't even responded to meet the Grahams let alone not like us. Even if drake responds he's cooked. At this point I think we'd rather just watch them throw direct hands with each other (I highly recommend getting on tiktok to see the break downs and reactions to it.) (Or even youtube the diss reactions) its insane

If Deng Ai only took a relatively small number of soldiers through the mountains, how did he beat Zhuge Zhan's army? Did Zhan just suck? Given Deng's small force, do you think Liu Shan's remaining forces could have held out against him?

We don't really have a lot of details about the engagement. I had some notes written out for an article about Shu's demise but that's not done cooking yet.

One thing we can note is that Liu Shan probably dispatched Chengdu's usual reserves before Deng Ai's arrival. When he realized that the invasion was real, he sent a number of commanders to reinforce Jiang Wei. This included Dong Jue, who was an official in the central government. Of the commanders listed (Liao Hua and Zhang Yi), he is the only one from the central government. It's pretty safe to infer that the troops Dong Jue led were Chengdu's reserves. I doubt Liu Shan emptied the entire garrison, but this would have significantly depleted the capital's ability to defend itself.

So, where did Zhuge Zhan's army come from? Probably Yong'an.

Luo Xian's biography (JS or the annotation in SGZ 41) says that Yan Yu (who commanded the eastern troops) was summoned to the capital, leaving Yong'an with just 2,000 soldiers (with which Luo Xian subsequently repelled Wu).

This is the only mention of Yan Yu's army during the fall of Shu. I believe the phrasing of Luo Xian's tale indicates that he was summoned to Chengdu rather than being sent to aid Jiang Wei since the text says west rather than north. It would make sense for Liu Shan to summon the troops guarding a friendly border to reinforce the capital after sending its reserves to do battle in the north. It then becomes a question of whether Yan Yu arrived in time to aid Chengdu, or if he was still on the march when Liu Shan surrendered.

I think the latter is very unlikely. SGZ 42.9 discusses the opinions of the Shu court when Deng Ai approached. Officials discuss fleeing to Wu or to Nanzhong, and I think it's significant that no one speaks as though Yan Yu is coming with reinforcements. There's no talk of holding on until the Yong'an army arrives. If Yan Yu wasn't already in Chengdu, surely the possibility of his arrival would have been foremost in the minds of the capital's defenders. We also know he didn't return to Yong'an, since that's the entire point of Luo Xian's story (and he, likewise, is not expecting their return while besieged).

Given that, then, I think it's most likely that Zhuge Zhan's army was composed primarily of Yan Yu's soldiers from Yong'an, and whatever garrison the capital still had left. Those weren't Shu's most experienced soldiers but they would have been at least trained professionals, not inept conscripts. Yan Yu himself probably had a personal corps of more experienced fighters from Nanzhong, which he previously governed quite successfully. And we can see evidence of this army's competence in that they successfully repelled Deng Ai's first assault before falling to the second.

It would be nice if Chen Shou had ever made a firm statement on what became of Yan Yu and his soldiers, but I think the chain of logic on this one is sound.

As an addendum, I'm also pretty sure Yan Yu died at Mianzhu. A lot of Shu officials are mentioned in various capacities in the subsequent passages, but Yan Yu is never among them. If we accept that Yan Yu's army did make it to Chengdu, it's safe to assume that given the important position he held (splitting the post of Grand General with Jiang Wei), he would have been involved in these matters if he lived.

you ! Astrophysics major I designed yn to be more like Ai Hoshino just with a little more hints of spice (by that I mean the whole smarty pants thing, the whole lies thing will make sense more into the story bc I plan on stretching it out a lot), I know oshi no ko anime ended already but it's so addicting esp the opening so that's where the whole persona comes from since its a bit weird to have random people in the group I decided that hu tao would be there for comedy reasons, lumine because of aether, Ayaka because of the whole ayato thing and I just think she fits as a manager/co-manager and everyone needs a rich friend. Kokomi bc I purely think she'd be the sweetest ever she has humor shes cute aesthetic etc and I js love her. Yoimiya is there for ayamiya purposes, and Mona bc I'm so in love with her omg I don't even ship Scaramona but I have no other ideas anyway I made yn an astronomy geek since it's similar to astrology (not really but u get it) perfectionist, like literally got valedictorian instead of mona by a penny. oh also the visual and main vocalist (plays guitar when the song needs it) btw (sorry) she's good with Childe and Kaeya, while both of them are basically affiliated w everyone.

lumine ! Music Performance major loves her brother but does tease him and always proclaims to be the better twin to throw him off. even tho your group doesn't always use instruments like heizous, she specializes in the guitarist zone. (think of this group as b-Komachi) had the potential to be the visual but Kokomi bombed it. As mentioned, she's in the same major as her brother and sometimes shares morning classes with Venti. Along with hu tao she also often indulges in teasing and comedy.

kokomi ! Fashion Design major kokomi is in charge of the ideas for on-stage outfits while submitting them and letting Jean and Ayaka handle the rest.. Judging by her exterior, she's a visual not just because of her fashion and appearance, but also because of her extremely kind nature. I swear she's like a prototype of Mizuki and wonyoung (pjsekai) and takes some responsibility along with Ayaka.

ayaka ! Business, Management, etc major following in ayatos footsteps, she's in the same department as he used to be. Planning to finish college and go to be a director in the entertainment industry. she doesn't mind becoming a movie director or anything related to (public entertainment.) However, when Ayato does one day retire, she would have to either take on his duties and leave her own, or somehow manage to take care of everything at once (example)

hu tao ! Business major very often has the same classes as ayaka since the management part of ayakas major is done separately to keep focus. She takes after-school music classes hence she IS an idol. she does lead the funeral parlor, but not everyone knows that. She wants to continue the funeral parlor as long as she can to let someone else from her family inherit it, as it is very important to her. She's also more on the humor/entertainment side of this story like lumine.

mona ! Astrophysics major in the same major as yn and kuni, Mona tries not to make name a third-wheel so she tries not to talk to him TOO often. mona is also really close with name. She's often to be called a tsundere and very stoic. but that doesn't apply to people she's really comfortable with. She's more into zodiacs and astrology than astronomy even tho it's similar.

yoimiya ! General Studies major at first, she didn't know what to major in. She wanted to continue her love for fireworks, but also her idol career. She took on general studies to make sure she hones her skills, and decide what to pursue her career into later on. She almost chose the same major as ayaka but ayaka helped her sort everything out for what is best for her. She really loves ayaka and is closest to her, she often hangs out with thoma when ayaka and ayato are out of town. She can play multiple instruments like the guitar, and electric guitar (same thing) cello, and drums.

note ; i finally finished their profiles... I forgot to add yoimiyas profile so ill add it later, I really have no idea how these charas would be in college and modern au neither do I have a CLUEE what college majors there are...I know some but I just have no clue what they would choose so I js went along with the storyline. I'm currently writing chapter 4 !!! idk where I'm going w the whole ayato thing i think it's kinda corny but I needed someone for angst.. and I hate ayato.

This whole situation with Day saying that Mork needs to fly back again sends me to Talay telling Puen to communicate with Pang, and he says that they need to split up and look for their portkey

When Day asks Mork to give them a second chance to start over, I got Talay's vibes, who confesses his love to Puen on the bus. and their hugs are hugs in a glasshouse (ai dang).

The narration on behalf of Day reminds of Talay's summing up at the end (Sea needs to record audiobooks, he has such a pleasant timbre) Mork and Day arrived at the grave. Do you think Puen brought Talay to his parents' grave and told them not to worry and he has Talay who will take care of him? I'm so cry

To sum up the Death, Ads, and Taxes plot so far:

- Jane Smith made her appearance in the Haunted Office, attacked September, took one of her souls from her (that one being a 432 from another dimension, Oliver “Ollie” Rey).

- JS explored the Haunted Office, as it used to be her office building, known as ABC Corp. She turned on the Mind Control Machine just to see if it would still work - which it does - however she could not find any living employees to test it out on. She went back into the In Between.

- Doomsday tracked down JS, challenged her, and was defeated - she had a soul taken away as a result (this one known as Nextday). JS then went into a shard and vanished from everyone’s radar.

- Shadow Stanley (who is from Thisday’s office, otherwise known as That Office) left his office in search of Thisday.

- JS went around in the In Between consuming souls of anyone she encountered, including @neverendingparable‘s character Jon; the Narrators and Curator from That Office; and many others, including multiples of her own soul from different timelines.

- Doom and Sept went searching for JS, but were unable to locate her, so they returned to the Haunted Office.

- Thisday was attacked and murdered by @themalwarezoo‘s character Polygonz. Since Polygonz is a virus and took a piece of Thisday, Thisday was unable to respawn.

- Doom went searching for Thisday. Being unable to find him, she became frustrated and upon encountering another one of herself in another timeline, she decided to stay and complete that cycle with her alternate, taking the other’s soul at the end. She did this multiple times, so her soul count is now over 1,000.

- Concerned that Doom hadn’t returned yet and she was not answering anybody’s calls/texts, Sept was sent into the In Between to look for her. While searching, she encountered JS again, tried to attack her, and was beaten again. JS felt no need to take any souls from her, but she did feel the need to be cruel - she informed Sept that all the employees had mind control chips installed in them upon hiring, and that this chip is the only reason Thursday was ever nice to her. Sept returned to the office, confirmed that the chip is real, and fled in grief, thinking her only friend was only ever her friend due to mind control programming via the chip.

- Thursday discovered the chip herself, put two and two together, and found the Mind Control machine turned on. She turned it off, but can’t feel any difference. Unable to reach Doom or Sept, and in a panic for the safety of her unborn child, Thursday went to her friends at the Sanctuary @drchandras-sanctuary-for-ais.

- Somewhere in all this, @neverendingparable‘s muse Molly stabbed JS multiple times with a sword that induces guilt. Nothing happened at first, but the guilt has started to creep up on JS, weakening her unexpectedly and making it so she can’t eat any more souls.

- Meanwhile, Cyrus and Aurora have remained at the office, while Timmy has gone with some Anons in search of Thisday (and Doom and Sept, although his focus is Thisday).

- Also meanwhile, inside of one of JS’ pieces of jewelry, That Aurora (from That Office) has talked with Nextday and gotten nowhere. An alternate JS tried talking to That Aurora and Nextday and got nowhere. Ollie, That Mariella, and other JS’ in another piece of jewelry have also gotten nowhere. And That Cyrus is in a separate piece and predictably has gotten nowhere.

- Shadow Stanley (Shadowley) encountered Gorrister @ted-the-survivor and asked if he knew Thursday. While discussing this matter, they caught Cyrus’ attention, and through talking they were able to confirm for Shadowley that there are multiple Thursdays and that Thisday is who he is looking for. Shadowley returned to his office where he discovered that his Narrators were attacked and are currently comatose. Cyrus called Doom and Sept for help, Sept answered the call, and went with Shadowley to confirm that his Narrators’ souls were taken. Sept, Shadowley, and Gorrister are now about to embark on a further search in the In Between for Thisday and possibly also JS.

- Doomsday, while returning to her search for Thisday, stumbled upon where Polygonz was located. The two fought, Doomsday won, and was able to reclaim the piece of Thisday that was taken.

- Thisday then respawned back in his office, where he found that Shadowley is missing, and also discovered his two Narrators (That Aurora and That Mariella) unresponsive on the floor. He is currently sitting with them and trying to rouse them, while trying to find a way of contacting the Haunted Office. His attempts have been unsuccessful so far.

- To celebrate her victory, Doomsday returned to the Haunted Office to take a short break, finding that most everyone is gone on different missions and that Thursday is at the Sanctuary. She was told about Shadowley, but Cyrus told her that her went with Gorrister and Sept into the In Between. Doom decided to stay on her short break.

- While fiddling around in his Narrators’ control booth, Thisday managed to send out a message which was intercepted by Maso @neverendingparable. Maso informed Doom, who then went back to the Haunted Office, found Shadowley, and went back with him to his office where they reunited with Thisday. They collected the bodies of Thisday’s Narrators and stored them in the Haunted Office.

- Doom went and started collecting soulless bodies from other dimensions she’d visited while searching for Thisday. The bodies are being stored in the Haunted Office for their souls to return to.

- Sept and Gorrister encountered JS in another office. The effects of the guilt-sword are in full swing now, so JS was removing her jewelry (where the taken souls are stored) and essentially releasing the souls.

October 30th - November 6th research

Observational Research:

This week was incredibly productive for me. I looked at the sources provided at the end of my Capstone presentation, and I will be honest that quite a few of the references don't really reflect my current interests and ideas (lots of interspecies communication references, but not a whole lot on communication). My main inspiration for this week of work was the modern urban ghillie suit video as well as speaking with Jeff. He told me to just dive into the world of text, and this idea blossomed from a combination of the two.

Some artists that Jeff told me to look at are:

The Fluxus movement really appeals to me for the presence of the artist in the piece, or there being an obvious presence or message behind the piece. I also love how crazy and wacky some of the performances/pieces are, such as the pieces in this article.

Active Research:

I started to think a lot about my work discussing the factors that change perspective. I'm really attracted to the idea of a veil, or something that conceals the person having the conversation. This reminded me of this video I saw a couple weeks ago of a modern urban ghillie suit that is made of trash. I think ghillie suits are such a unique concept, the entire body is consumed by a pattern and/or texture to better blend into the environment. What would that suit look like if it was consumed by the invisible language of our communication? I started to hyper fixate on this idea and played around with what that would even look like.

I drew this base model so I could visualize the figure in relation to how the suit would fit, but I realized that the figure would quickly become consumed:

But the suit would be made of words layered one on top of the other, to create this really confusing but visually stimulating texture.

I then wanted to think about what this would look like in a gallery/exhibit setting, and I came up with this simple sketch:

The person in the suit, likely me, would be seated in a chair, waiting for people to approach so a veil on the suit can be lifted over their head and they too become consumed by the ghillie suit. Once under the ghillie suit, we would then engage in a conversation, though I am not sure what that would entail.

There are a lot of unknowns with this idea: for example, what significance will the words have? I turned to ChatGPT to help me determine whether AI is a plausible use for this idea. I realized being as specific as possible was the best way to get ChatGPT to write a somewhat human interaction, so I tried roleplaying to see what conversation would come from flirting and chatting with ChatGPT. It didn't really go well, as shown from the screenshot below:

I've been thinking about different forms of communication: texting, in-person communication, and talking through the phone. I think texting is really unique because its a recorded, personal conversation between two people that is informal but also extremely personal. I'm still trying to decide if I want to focus on texting or verbal communication, but at the moment I am leaning towards texting.

So I decided to write a prompt based on two people: one modeled after myself and one modeled after my friend. I then asked ChatGPT to continue the conversation in various ways, and it resembled a somewhat human conversation-- but very clearly written by someone who is not aware of modern lingo or slang that then makes it very clear it is written by an AI.

Here is the prompt used for this convo:

Write a progression of text messages between A, a 19 year old pansexual woman, and B, a 21 year old lesbian woman. A enjoys country music, McDonalds, sleeping, working out, nature, and the beach. A is captivating, fascinating, attractive, forward, and short-spoken. B enjoys soccer, working out, art, video games, and R&B music. B is caring, descriptive, attentive, and long-spoken.

Here is that convo:

A: Hey, B. 😊

B: Hey there! How's your day going?

A: Not too bad. Just jamming to some country tunes and thinking about a McDonald's run. 😋

B: Haha, sounds fun! I'm working out right now, trying to stay fit. What's your fav country song?

A: "Wagon Wheel" for sure! It's a classic. 💃

B: Nice choice! I'm more into R&B, but I can appreciate some good country now and then. What's your workout routine like?

A: I hit the gym a few times a week. Love staying active. What about you, soccer fan? ⚽

B: Yeah, soccer is my jam! Playing it now and then keeps me in shape. 😅

A: That's cool. You're into art, right? Tell me more about that.

I find it hilarious that ChatGPT knows emojis are part of modern texting language, but isn't aware of abbreviations like hru? or hbu? that are super common in the modern texting language. It could be that I needed to be more specific with my prompt, but I'm not 100% sure.

I plan to go to Printed Matter later this week to explore text in different forms as recommended by Jeff, and he also referenced some great artists that I will look into this upcoming week so I can be engulfed in research for the first part of the week (similar to this past week) and then work off of that research.

13 sentinels spoilers 3

Yuki chan! Great So aiba eirika has been missing for weeks knew she was sus with tamao's face

In hindsight i should have progressed natsuno sooner a lot of things make more sense now like how miura got to 1985 and the sentinel takamiya's story was just talking about. Two kisaragis... Wait is that android kisaragi that ida lobotomized for having a panic attack and being uncontrollable. robot girl fight. So that is tamao, kinda. "Erika aiba" that was shadowing takamiya yuki is the kurabe tamao AI that ida made. And 426 is android kisaragi that has gone rogue and now has a grudge against ida. 426 won the robot fight and body jacked tamaobot. Poor bj has gone through the most out of the entire cast. Yup second miura confirmation. Android kisarsgi says natsuno is the new kaiju commander and that natsuno will be taking orders from her now and shoots her with nanomachines. Hmm memory loss the magic gun strikes again. Assuming 426 is still in tamaobot they tampered with bj again, and is also the eirika aiba tailing yuki (before the robot fight i assumed it was ida keeping rabs on her). "In the final phase of the [Ark] project humanity will be restarted", the final phase was what og shinonome wanted to sabotage and loop. Og ohata is gouto's son, wow theres a lot of divorce in 2188. Love that. I did remeber from last year that bj was miura but i dont remember which miura he is

It took me a while to figure out maybe 5 or 6 characters but these stories are mostly linear. The charts are misleading in that there isn't really a beaching story the endpoints are usually unlocked sequentially as though clouds are unlocked in previous routes. Most of the character routes even say that this isnt a timeloop (minus ogata who actually is in a timeloop but his story js still sequential) its a new day in the character's routine for each path.

The iori gaslighting lol nah youre crazy it was just a dream. Oh right i learned all her weird dreams are from morimura's or "morimura"s memory transplant experiments. Just the sheer number of morimura running around and the multiple identities and bodies i love this story i hate keeping track of things in this story. Did professor morimura lose her compatibility because of iori? Damn iori cute boy threatens you a gunpoint and grabs you by the shirt and you start spilling your deepest secrets without reservation. Hmm but if all those were the memories of one lifetime why's there an older juro? Or was that someone else dream. Btw i love that shu, juro, and iori a e a weird dream club they'd totally have a group chat about it. The morimura on console with gouto didnt recognize fuyusaka that's more evidence she's a different person than nurse morimura. Im still confused whats new. But hey juro and iori were lovers, this game is more romance heavy than i thought it would be. So the two tried to stop the interstellar project by bombing, failed, morimura died maybe and rhen 16 year younger morinura traveled forward to 2097 to kill juro. Probably not 1v1 but theres 3 of you you totally could have beat up wajima. Starting to think wajima likes taking a pounding, he really is asking for it most of the time, his entire role in the story is to act out of line and then get beat up for that. Well, fuyusaka's not short on bravery. Girl you do not know him you fell in love with the idea of love you've spent 10 min tops with him.

Sekigahara: i dont remember what was going on in your story... Oh yeah that convo about closing the loop, that was before the disaster battle were ei' sentinel got jacked by 426 and morimura emergency ejected the pilots to the different sectors. So there were loops before that, i cant keep this all straight damn my poor memory. Oh so it was ida that made the sentinels go rogue in the battle of 2065 because he bargained ryuko's safety with ei and was trying to undermine morimura. Did he just lie about 426. Ei is clearly the scapegoat. When aegis activates shifting is disabled and all those from other sectors are permanently stuck. Still no clue about the whole time descends into chaos thing. What im assuming is kisaragibot tells sekigahara that he's infected with code dd-426 which is cutting off some of his nanomachines and causing memory related brain damage (shinonome is probably the same). Wonder how nurse morimura ties into this. 20% transplant rate? Was nurse morimura trying to made ida#2 with amiguchi? So the one in ogata's story searching for the d-code key is okino. Okino purposefully infected themself with dd-426 to try and use it to detached the d-code and wiped his own memory. Okino is WILD backed up his memory and personality onto an AI and then ran that AI and overrode his own brain. Okino causes problems on purpose Tsukasa. The cat better not be the universal control system or stomething. Bj miura was the sentinel 17's AI before getting shoved into the little drone. 18 can only be operated by ai ... Who has 18 now man i really need to memorize these. Uh 18 is 3rd gen? Kisaragi? 1944 miura? Hmm so 17 was also one of the previously "automated" sentinels makes me wonder how sentient the others were. Ok ai miura definitely isnt from 2188 then. My memory is failing me has natsuno met sekigahara yet?

Ogata: back to the timeloop mines: found ei and ryoko collapsed and he had dd-426 in his hand. Ida calls the 15 commanders on the d forces, 13 +okino who is the 15th? Tamao? Yeah it is okino on the other end of the line. Lol they kidnapped ogata and tied him to a chair in an abandoned warehouse. Wrong genre! 1 out of the 15 is broadcasting the kaiju signals, wasnt that ogata? One of the scenes earlier said who it was .. was ogata up until 2 months ago.

Yay I finally get to do hijiyama's. I find this route to be one of the most entertaining because okino is just running mental circles around hijiyama. This story is so funny all the jocks are here. okino giving the most fake lackluster bored sounding love confession i've ever heard and ogata falling for it like "damn i'm a stud" and then hijiyama is off to the side have a crisis collapsed on the ground because he's that down bad over okino. Yeah he would be a sub for okino, wants to be bullied. ...the files reveal that tying hijiyama to the chair was literally just to toy with him since okino already knew what was in his brain from previously adjusting code.

Yakushiji: fluffy says 1944 miura has immunity to dd426 because of the component surgically embedded into his forehead that "forces him to use magic". Mr. Kitty controls the tv the one thing that idol had to work around, my wild guess is still kitty cat is universal control. So only she can see fluffy and fluffy is maybe mimicking the appearance of the actual school cat. Gotta say megumi's story is probably my least favorite so far.

Kurabe: shiba not existing to anyone else is not a twist i was expecting. 48q qta_cba those were the nanomachines being administered to kurabe! Its to make shiba the artificial personality. Wait they were trying to reintroduce izumi's memories? That means yakushiji was doing all that for nothing. And shiba is izumi? This part lost me. I get i remembered right the izumi morimura and shiba are trying to resurrect isnt the one from ... Idk Yakushiji's boyfriend, they're trying to resurrect an earlier iteration izumi. The izumi okino and fuyusaka from visitor from another world seem to be from 2104. That 16 year gap has been bothering me for weeks but its sector 0 why are all the other shifts 40 years. So, I read this 'Lila gets exposed' story where, after Lila got exposed and her mother is chewing he rout, Lila complains that Marinette also said that she knew Jagged Stone but no one is punishing her and someone says that Mari DOES know JS. Apparently, Lila thought that Mari was lying. Thoughts?

TBH, I like the idea that Lila doesn’t realize that the other classmates are lying.

Like, all of the classmates have accomplishments that sound just as ridiculous(Utterly Ridiculous) as Lila’s lies.

Marinette says that she, a random teenager, met Jagged Stone, Rockstar Legend, and he liked her so much that he asked her to design his albums, outfits, and even calls her his niece? Same with any of the rest of Marinette’s accomplishments. Winning a Mecha Strike tournament? A famous chef uncle? Working on Clara Nightengale’s ‘Miraculous’ music video? While winning Gabriel’s hat contest is believable since Adrien goes to the school, having her designs be adored by Audrey ‘Style Queen” Bourgeois? The woman who doesn’t even like her own daughter enough to remember her name? Sure Jan.

Which is why Lila wouldn’t believe it. She lies about all that stuff. Obviously everyone else is either exaggerating or just straight up lying. They’ve just never done it to the extent that she has.

Rise of Sixteen States: 303

Li Te is killed, is succeeded by his brother Liu. Li Liu dies, is succeeded by Te's son Xiong. Li Xiong takes Chengdu.

Also a Tai'an era check in with some of our other friends.

3 February 303 – 21 February 304

(Jin's 2nd Year of Tai'an)

(Li Te's 1st Year of Jianchu)

8th Month [29 August – 27 September], the King of Hejian, Yong and the King of Chengdu, Ying, raised troops to chastise the King of Changsha, Ai. The Emperor used Ai as Great Commander-in-Chief, commanding the army to defend against them.

[12th Month], guihai [17 January], the King of Donghai, Yue, arrested the King of Changsha, Ai and secluded him in Jinyongcheng. Ai was murdered by Zhang Fang.

(Li Te)

2ndYear of Tai'an(JS: 1stYear), Spring, 1st Month [3 February – 4 March], New Moon, Te advanced to strike, and routed Shang's riverside army. Te crossed by way of the Angdi, his partisans and followers by way of the Chi River, they entered the Pi and reached south-west of the river. The defensive army hemming the Jiang all scattered and ran. Thereupon he advanced to rob Chengdu. The Grand Warden of Shu commandery, Xu Jian, used the lesser city to surrender. Te entered to occupy it. He only took horses to provide for the army, of the remainder nothing was plundered or carried off. He used Li Jin as Grand Warden of Shu commandery to console it.

Te declared himself Shepherd of Yi province, Commander-in-Chief of the Various Army Affairs of Liang# and Yi provinces, Great General, and Great Commander-in-Chief, and changed the year to Jianchu [“Establishing the Beginning”], with an amnesty within his area. Luo Shang guarded the greater city, Te was encamped in the lesser city, and Li Liu advanced to station at Jianshang west of the Jiang. Shang was afraid, and dispatched envoys to seek peace.

At the time the people of Shu were imperilled and afraid, and joined together in village forts. They requested instructions from Te, and Te divided up people to go and rule over them. Xiong sent a letter to admonish Te to gather hostages, and that it was not possible to divide up and scatter the staunch and sharp. Liu also admonished him. Te angrily said:

Since the great affair is settled, there only is to calm the people. Why cling to vacillating actions, and coerce and harm without stop.

The Assistant Officer of Yi province's Board of Troops, Ren Rui of Shu commandery, advised Shang, saying:

Te has nefariously rebelled, and infringed on and terrorized the hundred families. He also divides his people and scatter his multitudes, they are among the various village forts, he is haughty, negligent and unprepared. We are on the verge of the harvest for Heaven destroying Te. We can announce to the various villages to secretly agree on an appointed day. Striking him from inside and outside, routing him is certain.

Shang followed him. At night he let down a rope to send out Rui, sending him to circulate his intentions and announce to the various villages, appointing the 2nd Month, 10th Day [14 March], when they would at the same time chastise Te. By his own hand he wrote a secret message which said “At that one Willow River”.

Rui first went to Te to surrender to thoroughly observe what was false and true. Te asked him how it was inside the city. Rui said:

Rice and grain are already almost exhausted, there are only goods and silk, and that is all.

Following that, he sought to visit his family. Te allowed it. Rui covertly advised the various villages. The villages thoroughly heeded the instructions. Rui returned to report to Shang. Shang consented to comply with the agreed date and send out the army to chastise Te. The various villages likewise consented to go and gather at the same time.

2nd Month [5 March – 2 April], Emperor Hui dispatched the Inspector of Jing province, Song Dai, and the Grand Warden of Jianping, Sun Fu, to aid Luo Shang. Fu was already staying at Deyang. Te dispatched Li Dang to supervise Li Huang and help Ren Zang resist Fu.

Shang dispatched a great multitude to suddenly assault Te's camp. They fought continuously for two days. His multitudes being smaller, they were no match, and Te's army was greatly defeated. He gathered and collected his remaining soldiers, and drew back to hasten to Xinfan (Same as Fancheng).

Shang's army pulled back, Te then pursued them, and there was a moving battle for more than thirty li. Shang sent out a great army to confront him. Te's army was routed and withdrew. The pursuit reached Guansang in Fan. They beheaded Te, his older brother Fu, Li Yuan, and others, burnt all their corpses, and transmitted the heads to Luoyang. [Te] had held rank for two years.

When his son Xiong presumptuously declared himself King of Chengdu, he was retroactively conferred Luminous [jing] King, and when he declared for himself the venerated title, he retroactively venerated him as the Luminous August Emperor, with the temple title First Founder [shizu].

(Li Liu)

At Te's capture of Chengdu's lesser city, he had the drifting people of the Six Commanderies divide into groups when entering the city, while the strong and brave supervised and led the village forts. Liu talked to Te, saying:

Your Highness has godly martial ability and has already overcome the lesser city. However the mountains and fens have not yet been collected, and the provisions and arms are not many. We ought to select the sons and younger brothers of the province and commanderies's great families to be hostages, send them off and turn them over to Guanghan, and confine them to the two camps; and gather and assemble the staunch and sharp, and fit them out to be defensive guards.

He also wrote a letter to Te's Marshal, Shangguan Dun, deeply laying out the right-principleness of accepting surrender like waiting on an enemy. Te did not accept.

When Te had been killed, the people of Shu were very rebellious, and the drifting people were greatly afraid. Liu and his older brother's sons Dang and Xiong gathered the lost multitudes and turned back to Chizu. Liu guarded the eastern camp, and Dang and Xiong guarded the northern camp. Shang, though victorious, still distributed a roaming army to campaign against the ungoverned. He transmitted Te's head to Luoyang, and burnt his corpse. Li Xiong used Li Li as Grand Warden of Zitong. The multitudes turned back to Chizu, and pushed forward Liu as Great General, Great Commander-in-Chief, and Shepherd of Yi province.

At the time Song Dai was staying at Dianjiang with a river army of 30 000. His vanguard Sun Fu routed Deyang, and captured the defence general appointed by Te, Jian Shi. The Grand Warden, Ren Zang, and others withdrew to Fu (JS Fuling county).

3rd Month [3 April – 2 May], Shang dispatched Controller-Protectors Zhang Gui, He Chong, Zuo Fan, and others with an army to Fancheng, and then Mianzhu surrendered. Commoners of Fuling, Yao Shen#, and Du A, responded to Shang. He also dispatched Controller-Protector Chang Shen with an army to Piqiao, and the Serrated Gates Zuo Fan, Huang Hong (HYGZ: Huang Yin), and He Chong to attack the northern camp from three sides. Shen was repulsed by Liu and Xiang#. Dang and Xiong attacked Shen#. Shen routed Xiang#, and killed Li Pan. His younger brother Gong became the master.

Zuo Fan and Huang Hong attacked Te's northern camp. The Di and Qiang within the camp who adhered to Fu Cheng, Wei Bo, and Shi Ding, rebelled in response to Fan and Yin, and attacked Dang and Xiong. Dang's mother Luo put on armour and made the rounds of the deployments. Bo by his own hand cut Luo and wounded her eye, her sturdy spirit became even more ardent. Also at the time, Cheng and Bo were fighting them inside, while Fan and and Yin attacked them on the outside, from daybreak until middle of the day, the camp was just on the brink of routed.

It happened that Liu routed Shen, and Dang and Xiong routed Shen# and came back. Just then they met with Fan and Yin, and greatly routed them. Cheng and Bo brought along their partisans to suddenly set out and go to Shang. Liu personally led Dang and Xiong to attack Shen's palisades, and overcame him. Shen's multitude soldiers scattered like stars. They pursued until Chengdu. Shang shut the gates and defended himself. Dang whipped his horse to pursue and strike, he rammed into a leaning Sou long lance and died. Luo and Xiong kept it private and did begin mourning so as to calm the hearts of the multitudes.

Summer, 4th Month [3 May – 31 May], Shang killed the secluded scholar Liu Chang. Chang was the great grandson of the former Shepherd of the province, Liu Zhang, and lived secluded on Bailu Mountain. He was lofty and exalted, and his hoary head not once bent his aspirations, he also did not prepare for the affairs of the era. Shang trusted uncanny words, and killed him. On the day he was killed, thunder shook people, there was great rain, and from within the city there sprang out a river.

5th Month [2 June – 30 June], Li Liu surrendered to Sun Fu, and dispatched a son as hostage. It was not possible. He therefore raised troops, and together with Li Li assaulted Fu. Fu's army was defeated. Song Dai passed on from illness at Dianjiang, and the provincial army withdrew.

Liu, since Te and Dang were both dead, and Dai and Fu had also arrived, was very much afraid. The Grand Warden, Li Han, also recommended Liu to surrender, and Liu wanted to follow it. Xiong and Li Xiang# repeatedly admonished, but it was not accepted. Liu dispatched his son Shi and Han's son Hu as hostages to Fu's army. Hu's older brother, Han's son, Li, heard his father wished to surrender and hurried to turn back from Zitong. He wished to admonish but did not catch up. He withdrew and together with Xiong planned to assault Fu's army, saying:

If we achieve complete success in the affair, [I] pledge that you Lord and [I] every three year will repeat to be ruler.

Xiong said:

Even if the plans of you Lord and I are settled, if the two old men do not follow, what will we do?

Li said:

We will arrange it not, and if it cannot be arranged, we will readily act out the great affair. Even though the old man is your uncle, Lord, in the circumstances it cannot be avoided. When venerable fathers are lords, what ever is there then to talk about!

Xiong was greatly pleased. Xiong therefore explained to the people and gentlemen of the Six Commanderies, inciting them with Shang's infringements on them, frightened them with all being wiped out by the people of Shu's offences, and laid out the harvest of ample riches that could be gotten from Fu. He managed thereby to rout Fu, the dead among Fu's army were a considerable multitude, and then Dai perished from illness. The Jing province army withdrew, and he shifted to attacking Shang. Liu was ashamed of his shortcomings, and in army affairs relied on Xiong. Xiong several times routed Shang's army. Shang guarded the greater city.

6thMonth [1 July – 30 July], Xiong crossed by way of the Boyang ruins [?], attacked and killed the Grand Warden of Minshan, Chen Tu, and hastened to Picheng.

Autumn, 7thMonth [31 July – 28 August], Xiong entered Picheng. Liu thoroughly moved the camp to occupy it. The people of the Three Shu all guarded strategic places and connected fortifications, or had drifted away and dispersed, entering the south or going down east. The cities and towns were all empty, and in the countryside there was no smoke or fire. Pillagers and plunderers had nowhere to stay, and were also soon hungry and starving.

However more than a thousand families with people from Fuling were west of the Jiang, relying on Qingcheng Mountain's private scholar Fan Changsheng (HYGZ: Fan Xian) to defend themselves. Shang's Army Advisor who Pacifies the West, Xu Yu, sought to become Grand Warden of Minshan. He wished to make an agreement with Changsheng and others, and together with Shang seize the horns and chastise Liu. Shang did not allow it, and Yu resented him. He sought to be sent west of the Jiang, and thereupon surrendered to Liu, who used him as General who Calms the West. Yu advised Changsheng and others to send wealth to provide Liu's army with provisions. Changsheng followed him, and for that reason Liu's army again exerted themselves.

Liu had a long-standing esteem for Xiong for having the virtue of an elder, he always stated:

The one who will raise up my family, is surely this person.

He directed his sons to honour and serve him.

9thMonth [28 September – 26 October], Liu was deeply ill, he spoke to the various generals, saying:

The Valiant Cavalry is lofty, clear, humane, and affectionate, his insight beyond very amazing, he is firmly enough to aid the great affair. However the Van Army's gallantry and martial ability is almost like he is assisted by Heaven. [You] can together accept service to the Van Army, and use him as King of Chengdu.

Then he passed away, at the time he was aged 56. The various generals together installed Xiong as ruler. When Xiong declared for himself the venerated title, he retroactively gave posthumous title to Liu as the Civil [wen] King of Qin. His son Long inherited.

(Li Xiong)

Liu passed away. Xiong declared himself Great Commander-in-Chief, Great General, and Shepherd of Yi province, with his seat at Picheng.

Luo Shang dispatched general Wei Bo to attack Xiong at Picheng, but there was yet no victory or defeat. Xiong sent Pu Tai of Wudu to deceive Shang, saying:

Li Xiang# and Xiong, since they are starving, hungry, isolated and imperilled, daily bicker and fight and blame each other. Xiang# wishes to bring along the people west of the Jiang to eat grain. If a covert army comes, I will respond from within, and light a fire at the appointed time. [The city] can be obtained.

Shang considered to be so, and greatly gave him gold and treasure. Tai said:

Now the affair assuredly is not yet established. To get results and afterwards accept it will not be too late.

He also sought have dispatched a person to follow himself to watch and wait on him. Shang trusted him. He thoroughly sent out the spirited troops, and dispatched Wei Bo with the various armies to attack Pi. Xiang# had set up an ambush on the road. Tai used a long ladder to lean on the wall, and raised up the fire. Bo's army saw the fire was rising, all contended to climb up the ladder. Tai then used a rope to pull it up. More than a hundred people of Shang's army were all beheaded. Xiong following that let loose the troops, striking them from the inside and outside, and greatly routed them. Xiong straight-away pursued the retreat, and at night arrived beneath the city. They declared “Ten thousand years” and said:

[We] have obtained Picheng.

They entered the lesser city. Shang then became aware, and guarded the greater city.

Xiang# separately attacked Qianwei, and cut off Shang's transport road. He captured the Grand Warden, Gong Hui# of Wuling. Hui# formerly had been Prefect of Xi county in Tianshui, while Ren Hui had been a functionary. Hui asked him, saying:

Do [you] recognize [your] old functionary or not?

Hui# said:

[I] recognize you, that is all.

The commandery functionaries scattered like stars, only the Board of Merit official Yang Huan attended and guarded him. Hui spoke to him, saying:

You sir, is a right-principled person. I strongly fear [I] will not be able to rescue Lord Gong, and he will not be able to escape. You sir ought to depart soon.

Then both were killed.

Used Li Pu as Grand Warden of Qianwei.

Xiong captured Bo alive, he heard he was injured and would die of his wounds. Bo's daughter was the wife of Liang Shuang who was in his employ. For that reason he did not kill him.

Intercalary 12th Month [24 January – 21 February], the transportation of Shang's provisions was not maintained, and he was being pressed by attacks. At night he withdrew, and by means of the Niubing River went down east. He kept behind the Serrated Gates Zhang Luo (JS: Luo Te) to hold onto the city to the end of the night. By the time Xiong became aware, he had gone far away. In the hustle and bustle he had lost his tally and halberd. Luo followed after and obtained them, and also acquired the property. Soon after Xiong gained Chengdu.

At that time the hunger in Xiong's army was considerable. Xiang# therefore brought along the people to enter Qi's royal city, dig up wild taro and eat it. The people of Shu drifted and scattered, going down east to Jiangyang, and going south to enter the Seven Commanderies.

Since Fan Changsheng of the Western Mountains dwelt among the cliffs to live in a cave, seeking the Way and fostering aspirations, Xiong wished to welcome him as lord, and be subject to him. Changsheng firmly refused, saying:

Calculating the pacing of the Grand Inaugural, the Five Agents will have a great junction in jiazi. The throne will be bestowed on the Li, it is not for me to govern.

Xiong therefore deeply restrained and diminished himself, and did not dare to declare his authority. All affairs, great or small, were decided by the brothers Li Li and Li Guo, Guo and others served Xiong with full honours.

(As Changsheng, Xiong, and the others would have known, the next year would be a jiazi year.)

The Inspector of Liang# province, Xu Xiong, since, while he was to chastise the thieves, he had not advance, a cage cart summoned him to go to the Imperial Prison. Only the Army-Protector together with the Grand Warden of Hanguo, Du Mengzhi, the Chief Battle Leader Zhao Min, and Jing province's Grand Warden Zitong defended Hanzhong.

(The section just above follows the received text of the HYGZ which appears faulty. Ren Naiqiang has reconstructed the final sentence as follows:

Only the Army-Protector [Zhang Yin], together with the Grand Warden of Hanguo, Du Mengzhi, the Chief Battle Leader Zhao Min, the Grand Warden of [Baxi], [Zhang Yan], and [Jing Zi] of Zitong defended Hanzhong.)

Tai'an era (302 – 303)

(Liu Yuan)

Middle of Taian [302 – 303], Emperor Hui lost the government, the King of Qi, Jiong, the King of Chansha, Ai, together with the Ying and others, executed and exterminated themselves and each other. In the provinces and commanderies the faithless and presumptuous were rising up in a swarm. His granduncle the former Chief Commandant of the Northern Section and Worthy King of the Right, Xuan, and others furtively discussed turning to rebellion, saying:

Formerly our ancestors made a covenant with the Han to be brothers, [their] worries and contentment similar to them. Since the fall of Han, the era of Wei and Jin has risen, and our Chanyu is only an empty title, without having a foot of land for patrimony. From [one of] the various Kings and Marquises, he has fallen to be similar to the registered households. Now our multitudes, though diminished, are still not reduced to 20 000, why is it [that we have] pulled back our hands and accepted to serve for soon to exceed a hundred years!

Now the Sima clan's bones and flesh harm each other, in the Four Seas the tripods are boiling. To raise up the nation and restore the patrimony of Huhanxie, this is the time. The Worthy King of the Left, Yuan's bearing and capacity is beyond other people, his abilities and manners surpasses the generation. Suppose Heaven does not broadly honours the Chanyu, in the end it would not uselessly give birth to this man.

Hence they privately together pushed forward Yuan to be Great Chanyu. They therefore sent their partisan Huyan You to go to Ye and to tell him about this plan. Yuan requested to go home to attend a funeral, Ying did not allow it. Yuan therefore ordered You to first return home, and tell Xuan and others to summon and assemble the Five Sections, and pull in and meet with the various Hu of Yiyang, to make sounds of obeying Ying, but actually betray him.

(Shi Le)

Middle of Tai'an [302 – 303], Bing province was in famine and chaos. Le and various young Hu absconded and scattered, and then he returned from Yanmen to rely on Ning Qu, The Chief Commandant of the Northern Marshes, Liu Jian, wished to tie him up and sell him. Qu hid him, and he managed to escape. Le hence covertly went to turn in his surrender to the Chief Commandant, Li Chuan. On the road he came across Guo Jing. He wept, bowed, told him he was hungry and cold. Jing replied to him with flowing tears, and used gruel from his belt goods to feed him, and also gave him clothes and dress. Le spoke to Jing, saying:

At the present there is great hunger, and it is not possible to ward against impoverishment. The various Hu's hunger is considerable, [they] ought to be entice to be brought along to Ji province to seek a livelihood, and following that apprehend and sell them, it can be a help for both.

Jing deeply considered so.

It happened that the General who Establishes Power, Yan Cui, advised the Inspector of Bing province, the Duke of Dongying, Sima Teng, to apprehend the various Hu and sell them to the east of the mountains to fill up army provisions. Teng sent Generals Guo Yang and Zhang Long to capture the crowd of Hu, and bring them along to go to Ji province. Every pair of Hu shared one cangue.

Le at the time was more than twenty years old, he was also was in their midst, and several times was chased on and humiliated by Long. Jing previously entrusted Le to Guo Yang and his older brother's son Shi. Yang was Jing's senior clansman. And so Yang and Shi always made requests to release, and on the ways and roads when he was hungry and ill, he releid on Yang and Shi for help.

They went east to arrive in Pingyuan were he was sold to a native of Chiping, Shi Huan, to become a slave. There was one old father who spoke to Le, saying:

Lord, at the limits of your fish and dragon hair four ways are already completed, you will certainly become a ruler of men. In a year of jiaxu, Wang Pengzu can be plotted against.

Le said:

If it is like Your Excellency tells, [I] will not dare to forget [your] kindness.

Suddenly he did not see him.

(The next jiaxuyear was in 314 AD. Pengzu was the courtesy name of a certain Wang Jun.)

Always when he was ploughing in the countryside, he regularly heard the sounds of drums and horns. Le hence informed the various slaves, and the various slaves likewise heard it. Following that, he said:

As a youth when I came to be in my house, I persistently heard something like this.

The various slaves returned home to inform Huan. Huan was likewise amazed with his appearance and countenance, and released him.

Huan's house was neighbours to horse shepherds, and he and the shepherd leader, Ji Sang of Wei commandery, came and went. Since Le was able to assess horses, he entrusted himself to Sang. Once when employed in Wu'an, he approached a river, and was taken prisoner by a patrolling army. It happened that a herd of deer passed nearby. The army people contended to chase them, and Le therefore gained his escape.

Soon after he again saw one old father, he spoke to Le, saying:

The one with the herd of deer just now was I. You Lord should become ruler of the Central Province, for that reason [I] assisted the rescue in this way.

Le bowed and accepted the instructions. Thereupon he summoned and assembled Wang Yang, Kui An, Zhi Xiong, Ji Bao, Wu Yu, Liu Ying, Tao Bao, and Lu Ming, eight riders, as a bandit gang. Later Guo Ao, Liu Zheng, Liu Bao, Zhang Yipu, Huyan Mo, Guo Heilüe, Zhang Yue, Kong Tun, Zhao Lu, and Zhi Quliu also came to him. They were titled as the Eighteen Riders. Then he linked up his armour and helmet, and galloped out to strike him. Sunuyan was greatly defeated. They pursued the fleeing for a hundred li, the prisoners and beheaded were more than 10 000 people.

Meng Hui of Liaodong had previously been submerged into the Yuwen section. He led his multitudes, several thousand families, to surrender to Hui. Hui used him as General who Establishes Power.
