People are making posts again calling Steve a homewrecker for what he said to Nancy in S4.

As if they weren't in the middle of their fourth end of the world event in under two and a half years, this time without a real adult who knew what was going on.

As if he hadn't just received his third serious, should be in hospital right now, injury in under a year and a half.

As if Nancy and Jonathan weren't in an LDR that had serious communication issues.

(As if Steve was sleeping with Nancy after acknowledging that she had a boyfriend, oh wait. That was Jonathan in s2.)

He was a teenager making a confession in a time of high stress and they didn't know if they would make it out alive.

The way people throw around the word homewrecker in this fandom, anyone would think it was about characters in their twenties or thirties that were married with kids that had a long term affair, and not a bunch of traumatized teenagers who made some poor decisions around relationships and their feelings when they were trying to stop the world from ending.

They're teenagers! There is no home to wreck!

they’re literally teenagers. like you said. they’re not married, there are no kids, there is no home. they’re teens that have been through a lot of fucked up stuff, and aren’t the best at relationships as a result. to try and vilify one of them is just… mean lmao. and shortsighted.

jonathan is already “slow motion” breaking up with nancy. honestly, if steve were to step in, i think jonathan would just be thankful he didn’t have to dump nancy lmao.

steve’s not even actively trying to break them up!!! he’s just confessing his feelings to nancy because he thinks he may die any second.

and finally. these people are totally taking any agency away from nancy! it would be nancy’s decision to cheat, or break up with jonathan for steve, or whatever. steve wouldn’t be forcing her to do anything. if steve really did “homewreck” j/ncy, he could only do it if nancy allowed the relationship to be wrecked.

last year we subjected our characters to the hell of the Hunger Games— and this year, we’re putting them through hell again! although, hopefully murder-less. Welcome to Bards High, the official hamserver summer 2024 roleplay. where we take our favorite little guys (including a certain childrens’ cartoon icon??) and force them to go through the highs and lows of the American Educational System! no, i have no idea why it’s in america. we unanimously decided, i suppose (freedom democracy oil 🇺🇸🦅🔥) it’s shaping up to have so much fluff, suspense, good banter, gay pining, not-gay pining, missing parents, dead squirrels, and DRAMA already, and i can’t wait to see what WILD things we come up with this time around.

although, i may have gotten a little ahead of myself with the “no murder” part. this is a shakespeare-themed rp, after all…

istg… how hard is it for people to understand that elia needed to have a male heir to secure her position in the royal court. a royal court that was becoming more and more divided as aerys sunk deeper into his madness while rhaegar began filling the court with his people, many of whom were dornish.

maesters compared aerys court to what the royal court looked like right before the dance! that’s how tense it was! rhaegar also has many parallels with daeron the good, and one of the most interesting parallels between these two characters is that both their fathers undermined their positions in the line of succession.

also, while elia having a male child does further secure rhaegar’s position, elia having a male child was actually much more important for her own sake.

if you don’t understand why elia having a male child as quickly as possible was necessary for her then maybe asoiaf is too intricate for you to understand.

btw rhaegar and elia needing a male heir to secure their positions at court and to secure rhaegar’s line in the succession for the throne is mainly due to the dance of the dragons because the greens usurped the blacks. to be specific, it’s because aegon usurped rhaenyra.

rhaenys never stood a chance at inheriting the throne. :/

I need to just complain about fic for a minute

If I read one more fic where the kids get offended? or upset when one of the older teens (lbr, usually Steve, but sometimes Eddie, and I have seen it for Robin) come out because they didn't come out sooner, I am going to lose it.

'But you didn't tell me' or 'don't you trust us' or 'why did you keep it a secret'

Nobody! Owes! Anyone! Else! Coming! Out!

Even today, people shouldn't have to come out before they're ready. Coming out is a personal thing.

But st is set in the mid 80's! At the time of S4 homosexuality had been legal in Indiana for less than a decade! It was decriminalised in 76, and came into effect in 77! All the main characters would have been alive before being gay was legal in Indiana.

And being gay was still illegal in about half of all US states.

And it was during the AIDS crisis. And Reagan was president.

Coming out wasn't safe. They would have assumed that everyone wasn't safe until proven otherwise. Because if the wrong person found out they could have been killed. The gay panic defense is *still* legal in Indiana and most of the US.

So less fics with Steve, Eddie, or Robin apologizing and feeling like bad people for not coming out sooner, and more with them telling the kids that they weren't entitled to know, or that anyone knowing wasn't safe, and just them not accepting the kids being shitty over not being told something so personal that could be weaponized against them.

this is a fandom that is obsessed with the outing trope, so i’m not surprised that they don’t seem to respect a queer person’s right to privacy.

characters being chastised for coming out when they do is annoying in modern media, but like you said, it’s especially grating when the work of fiction is set in the 80s.

i honestly really don’t think any of the kids would react like that, but if they were to, the others would straighten them out. yes, their saying is “friends don’t lie”, but they’ve regularly broken that anyway lmao. and i think they’d understand that not telling someone your sexuality isn’t lying.

it’s funny you say this actually because i’ve been thinking of him recently... especially after the whole lore reveal. the fact that jin was literally devoured in the womb so his sibling could survive + willingly let himself be manipulated by kenjaku despite knowing it wasn’t kaori….. well. it’s tasty, right? and it makes me a little insane because if sukuna embodies strenght, isn’t it only natural that jin would embody weakness? the weakness of love? inherent submission to those more powerful than him?
