~Digimon Adventure Novelization Excerpts Part One~
I have recently read the Digimon Adventuee Novelization, and have a ton of screenshots of little bits and pieces that I had thoughts about. So! I will be putting them here. This is the post that I got the link to the translation from! This is not an analysis or anything, just stuff I noticed/liked. I have an absolute ton of these, so this will be part one! :)
Tumblr media
^The fact that they already knew their partners names brings me immsense amounts of joy! That's adorable!
Tumblr media
^Yamato will hear out creepy trees, but a plushie is where he draws the line, huh?
Tumblr media
^Man, I love Tsunomon!!!!
Tumblr media
^That's a really cool detail I hadn't known?? So digital world leaves are fake... good to know! This makes Mimi's dub dialogue of "Now we don't have to eat leaves anymore!" a bit more concerning though.
Tumblr media
^Yamato has been left to babysit lol
Tumblr media
^Divorce Ouch #1
Tumblr media
^I like how in this version, they meet Elecmon peacefully and he just takes care of him. Elecmon is such a caring digimon! I wish he was in 02, and I was so happy to see him in Tri!
Tumblr media
^Haha, sub voice actor joke!
Tumblr media
^Yamato I am literally begging you please spare him the trauma please just let him stay in the village. Like I'm aware that it probably wouldn't help but. Smallest child prophecy again? PAIN.
Tumblr media
^So... Takeru getting claustrophobia from this, anyone?

Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna
I've been reading the novelisation of Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, which is last (?) in a long line of sequels to Digimon Adventure. The translation is done by Onkeikun of digitalscratch.pmsinfirm.org, and I assume it's based on the "Dash X" version of the novel, which according to the good people on the withthewill.net boards has "more action, emotion, and some additional scenes".
About two thirds in, so far I will only comment on the first chapter in this post:
The Unknown Digimon
Tumblr media
It's been ten years since Adventure and five since Tri. The book sets us up with a few brief descriptions of the characters - how old they are now, and what they're doing. To my disappointment everyone seems to be right on track in their lives, mostly going to university or working. Nobody's life is in disarray, nobody is struggling with addiction or drugs, being confused by the world slowly coming online and entirely changing the social landscape for young people - It's just not very relatable ahahah. It's safe and consistent with everything we've seen so far.
Unfortunately that's pretty much the most interesting part. Some average anime filler action happens: inconsequential techno-babble, Parrotmon appears yet again in Tokyo, and gets returned to the digital world after a brief fight with some of the cast. Right after, Agumon and Gabumon get left behind by Taichi and Yamato as they are both busy with schoolwork. This is where I assume the drama will come from, as Adventure and its sequels have always been about childhood, growth, and moving on. We've been getting tear-jerked with “final” goodbyes and messages of “wherever we are, we will always be friends and I cherish the time we spent together”, so again it's nothing new.
Towards the end of the chapter some random chick falls unconcious. Might this be the traditional mystery sub-plot kicking off that's going to get unravelled with no payoff or much interesting intervention by the characters? Yes, yes it is. Two new characters, Whatsherface and Whatshisname, inform the crew about chosen children all around the world falling into comas – but they can be saved if they just band together and defeat BadDigimon231 (or whatever). Some of the OG children and their partners get ready to take care of it. End of chapter one.
So far I'm really enjoying it lmao

‘ TAICHI YAGAMI was one of the few exceptions. ’ ‘ if TAICHI hadn’t invited him, KOUSHIRO WAS SURE THAT HE WOULD HAVE NEVER GONE TO THE summer camp . ’ ... ... ...
‘ Before now , before he had come to the Digital World , Koushiro had considered himself AN INSIGNIFICANT     AND WORTHLESS     HUMAN BEING He knew computers, but what use was that ? Even he was aware that he stuck out like a sore thumb in class , and he had thought that                    EVEN IF HE      WASN’T AROUND, THE WORLD WOULD STILL GO ON ... ... ... ... ”
Tumblr media
[ from the 3rd novel of said Adventure novels ]: “Why won’t you allow Tentomon to evolve?! Tell me why!” Koushiro understood after Taichi explained himself, but he turned pale upon realizing that he had spoken to his [senpai] Taichi with such an insolent tone. Even he himself seemed surprised at what he’d done. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean—” But Taichi said, “Don’t worry about it. In fact, it made me happy to hear you speak so casually to me. I felt like you’d finally opened up your heart to me.” Hearing this embarrassed Koushiro. But if reconciling with his parents had helped him to close his distance with other people, then it made Koushiro happy about himself as well. Taichi’s big-hearted way of accepting his brazenness with a smile only deepened Koushiro’s admiration for Taichi more than ever.
[ also from the 3rd novel, chapter 8 ] ( Taichi vs. Yamato “battle” ) ( scenes that weren’t quite in the anime version, HOWEVER ): [ ... ] That was a problem that Taichi needed to agonize over and conquer from here on. He just needed some more time on it. But Yamato, who didn’t understand that at all, said, “Looks like I’m right.” He continued triumphantly, “You’re a failure as a leader.” That was when Koushiro, who had kept himself from arguing with anyone before, said in a stronger tone than usual, “I’m against this. I don’t want to acknowledge anyone other than Taichi-san as our leader.” Koushiro had never spoken to anyone in a quarrelsome manner before, and it shocked Yamato. “Well,” he said, trying to put up a tough front, “I guess I should expect that coming from one of Taichi’s fans.” But Koushiro hadn’t spoken out of loyalty to a single party. “Yamato-san, you’re unfit for leadership because you’re too emotional. If the leader lets his emotions get the better of him, then he loses his followers.” Yamato hated to admit it, but he was right.

In fact, according to the booklet of the unsigned DVD box, it was revealed that before the start of the story, the Sora knew that Yamato and Takeru were actually brothers, and they were living separately because they were taken to each other when their parents divorced. In fact, it is said that Taichi and Koushiro were so suspicious about the relationship between Yamato and Takeru, and when she  talk to Mimi as she was in a hurry, and when she was asked by Taichi directly in the Episode 3, she said directly "I don't know". On the other hand, it is thought that the Sora was more intimate than Yamato than Taichi.
This part comes from the setting in the TV version about Yamato and Sora, and this setting is also reflected in Kakudousan novel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
http://digitalscratch.pmsinfirm.org/3756
The first one is from an official novel. This plot is different from the TV version. At that time, everyone didn't know that Takeru was yamato’s younger brother, but Sora knew about it and asked Joe if he could share food for Takeru. But joe listened. After that, they have to look everywhere for who this person is. If they knew from the beginning, Joe would not have acted like this, so it was clear that no one knew at that time except Sora.
Tumblr media
http://digitalscratch.pmsinfirm.org/3767
This part further proves that at first everyone (except Sora) did not know that the two were brothers. This scene is the castle made by the Devimon , When Agumon and Taichi went to the bathroom, Taichi's thoughts  For as long as he’d known him, Taichi had always believed that Yamato was an only child. It was only after they had come to this island that he found out the younger boy unknown to him was Yamato’s brother.
Later, when Taichi talked about Yamato and Takeru brothers, he said something that was taken apart by the Sora.
Tumblr media
http://digitalscratch.pmsinfirm.org/7967
This part is the plot on the grass, which is different from the TV version. Taichi and the others already know that Hikari is the eighth child. Joe said that he needs to gather eight people to win the vamdemon. This is the reaction of Yamato and Sora.
If you don't pay attention to the TV version, it is indeed impossible to find out. If it is not officially given, you may not know it, but in the novel, this setting is more obvious when it is written. In the middle and later stages of the novel, the plot of Sorato is more obvious. I can recommend everyone to take a look.

How, in Kizuna, both Yamato and Taichi know what Sora is up to and even though Taichi and Sora grew apart, they still have a special connection that's here to stay forever and shouldn't be left unsaid
Before you read on, two warnings:
Kizuna spoilers!
LONG POST!
Also, a little note and disclaimer: I can see people percepting this post as a Taiora-shipper heavily vouching for romantic!Taiora and bashing Sorato. Interpret it however you like, but just know that's not how I approached this meta. It's Sorato-friendly and Sorato-appreciative. Sure, it gives reasons for romantic!Taiora to have potential in canon, but it's mostly directed on how I see the -platonic- connection between Taichi and Sora and how it's portrayed in the Kizuna movie.
That being said, I do not own Digimon and therefore this is my view on it. I also didn't read the Kizuna novel, so everything not compliant with the novel is due to that. Anyway, happy readings!
Who remembers the Digimon movie Diaboromon strikes back probably knows how Sora is not present during the fight because she's on the tennis club trip. Or actually on her way back. We learn about this, because Koushiro asks where Sora is and Yamato -being her boyfriend obviously- is the only one who knows the answer. Cute boyfriend, truly!
Tumblr media
In the Kizuna movie we see a little call back to this particular scene when Yamato and Taichi are eating together and talk about what all the others are up to (and how they seem to be the only ones who have no clue about their future yet. I feel that, unlike Koushiro I didn't run a freaking tech company at 21??!!! Seriously, who does that?!). Taichi sums up all the 01 Chosen Children + Daisuke, except for two: Takeru and Sora. Of course Yamato knows what Takeru is up to, so Taichi leaves that for Yamato to tell.
As for Sora... I think that's a bit harder and I've been thinking about this since the first time I saw it. Especially after I saw this post floating around on my dash every once in a while (and yes the Taiora-shipper in me wants my Taiora-heart to be soothed BUT this is not the main reason, believe me) and I just think Yamato isn't the only one who knows. Now let me try to explain myself.
Tumblr media
The first reaction Taichi gives after Yamato drops the insights on Sora's life is a kind of bored (maybe even a little frustrated?), almost sighing and slightly stretched "Eeehhh" which can be translated to "Yeah...". In the English dub Taichi's 'yeah' sounds even more frustrated and almost... disappointed? Also look at the face above! Taichi doesn't look pleased in my opinion, at all. See it for yourself.
Anyway, when we take all of the above in consideration, we could interpret Taichi's reaction in two different ways:
"Yeah. Ok. Cool. Not interested."
"Yeah. I know. It stings. Thanks for reminding me, dude."
And to be honest, I can't imagine Taichi not being interested in Sora (from a platonic perspective), so I'd go with the second option. Taichi knows that Sora's into Ikebana (and if we believe the one Christmas Tri interview, Taichi also knows about Sora's designer aspirations), but he doesn't include her in his enumeration, because why the heck would he talk about his friend's girlfriend??! Besides, talking about Sora seems a bit more painful to him than talking about the others. A reason for this for example could be that it's pretty painful to see and feel yourself slowly fading away from your oldest friend due to the difference in life paths. Yamato on the other hand starts talking about her, because it's his freaking girlfriend so OF COURSE he wants to talk about her.
This also brings me to the part that Yamato knows that Taichi knows what Sora is up to. After Taichi gives his sighing reaction, Yamato reacts by stating something very painful YAMA MY BOI WHY DO YOU BREAK TAICHI'S HEART LIKE THAT??!!! the obvious no one likes to admit.
"Things can't stay the same forever..."
Tumblr media
Look at Taichi's sad and pained face!! The fact that Yamato says this seems to hit something in Taichi, especially after briefly talking about Sora; Taichi's oldest friend... It could even point in the direction of Yamato knowing Taichi and Sora grew apart, as if he wants to make clear to Taichi that it's okay to let go of old friendships as it's part of life (and not because Yamato is afraid to lose Sora to Taichi or whatsoever).
You know, that really pains me. Ugh, this movie will be my death one day... Carry on!
Throughout the rest of the movie, however, we see how Taichi and Sora still maintain some kind of 'connection'. For example how they were silently in pain, waiting for the inevitable, while the rain poured down (I know that's scenography, but it could even be a weird-ass nod to the Our War Game Taiora drama in the English dub...), their scenes following up each other. Also note how both Piyomon (+ Sora) and Agumon stare through the -left panel of the- window... Sad. ~See this edit~
Tumblr media
How Yamato is stopped by Takeru, Jyou and Mimi (a.k.a. team Hope) and Taichi only by Hikari and Koushiro. Clearly there's someone missing in team Light and that someone must be Sora on Taichi's side.
Tumblr media
And of course the whistle (I still don't get Yamato's dub-line "I used to hate that damn whistle," like, where did that even come from??!! It's stupid) blown by Taichi to which Sora reacts by literally calling out his name with the extra of a hand on the glass, reaching out to him, but unable to help because she's seperated (feels distanced...) from him. ~See this edit~
Tumblr media
I even found this little thing you might miss with the blink of an eye. Or maybe I am just an idiot and I only spotted it now and everyone else is like: "Yeah, we already knew, old news." Gonna meta on it anyway
So anyway, in the 'staring to the pouring rain' scene, where Sora tells Piyomon she decided to not take part in the fight anymore (because SAD reasons obviously), we see Sora tracing two raindrops with her finger gliding down the window, becoming one raindrop.
Then, fast forward in the movie to the scene in Koushiro's office before Taichi and Yamato travel to the Digitial World to save the others and find Menoa. Yamato wonders how if they find Menoa and will have to fight her, the Digimon need to digivolve for that fight, which will probably speed up the vanishing of Gabumon and Agumon. Taichi is aware of that, going into some kind of brave sacrifice mode for the sake of the others, and Yamato asks if he's okay with that. And right before Taichi tells Yamato "No, I'm not. But someone's gotta do it!" we see this one raindrop... gliding down the window... seperating into two raindrops..!!! (To all the gif makers; please be my guest...!)
Tumblr media
It HAS to mean something, because it's so obvious and it actually ties those two scenes together! It's an 'Aha!'-moment, a moment where the events turn and will probably mean something like 'Our paths cross and became one all those years ago and now is the time for our paths to seperate once again. In order to do so, we have to let go and start growing up'.
But we could also interpret it in a way it says something about the decisions they make and how they differ from each other. One (Sora) chooses for herself not to fight to stall the process of saying goodbye, the other (Taichi) chooses to fight for the sake of others and with that speed up the said process.
This shows us how Sora and Taichi differ from each other, maybe even have grown apart because of that for that matter. But it could also be a hint to their bond and how they still, unknowingly, learn from the other's actions, thoughts and insights in some way. That it's useless to try to avoid the inevitable when it's clearly approaching full force. Because it's fate. At the point the two raindrops come together, both of them don't want to see that fate yet, but when the raindrop splits again, they've come to the conclusion to just take things the way they are (it's the 'Aha!'-moment for all the Chosen really, but it's so typically staged as a Sora vs. Taichi thing, as a symbol for everyone. Take it from someone who works in the theater field and is schooled in theater practices and making choreography. This is exactly how I would like to show my audience their bond in a subtle way without words and how that contradiction symbolizes the decision everyone in the group has to make eventually).
And for all we know, (this is so painful to say...) that one moment that raindrop splits again as Taichi makes his decision... Sora finds her peace with her decision as well... and this could be the exact moment where she loses her partner and becomes the first of the group with that loss........ Of course that's just speculations. But wouldn't it be the best 'strings of fate' trope-story between these two clearly connected childhood best friends?
So yeah, fate will always bring Taichi and Sora together (in canon: platonic. In fanon: could be any kind of relationship you like). And please, don't be ignorant of that! Whether you ship Sorato, Taiora, Taiyama, Taiorato, other Taichi, Sora and/or Yamato ships or none of them at all. These two soccer buddies hold a special bond with each other one could almost call t e l e p a t h i c~... Here's a little Digimon novel reference to that:
Tumblr media
Taichi and Sora may have grown apart for now and Yamato is aware of that. But I believe Aang can save the world these two old friends have a connection that will last a lifetime and they will grow closer again over time as they grow up into beautiful adults!
Actually, the Kizuna events will bring the whole group closer together again and that's a headcanon that lives rent free in my mind <3
That's all folks!

Growing Up with You “Podcast”
Growing Up with You turns TEN this year, on September 30th!  To celebrate, and to show the fic to my newer followers, I wanted to talk about the fic, the development, what I liked, what I’d change, stuff like that!  There is a loose transcript beneath the cut.  The audio is about half an hour long (yikes!).  I commissioned the art above from Mitty.
Content warning for mentions of (nonspecific) emotional abuse.
Transcript beneath the cut!
GUWY Podcast
Intro
Hey, it’s Hidden!  I decided to talk about my fics, starting with the oldest and working my way up to the newest.  My oldest fic was posted on September 30th, 2012, meaning that it’s almost 10 years old! Folks come and go to the fandom all the time, so I wanted to shine some light on these older stories.
I’ll be discussing things like themes, characterizations, where I was in my life when I wrote the fic and how that influenced the story, what I’d change if I could, what I like best, ect.  It’s a lot to cover, so I’m going to move right on.
GUWY Summary
Growing Up with You is one of those dreaded “rewrite canon with an OC” fics.  It’s a complete fic that ran from 2012 through 2017 and is over 420,000 words long! It’s about 4 to 5 novels long, assuming the average novel is 95,000 words long (that’s an averaged length taken across genres).
GUWY follows the story from Digimon Adventure, 02, and some of the movies, but there is a lot of unique/new content.  It stars OC Eimi Anami, my main OC, and Koushiro.  For the majority of the story, they’re close friends, but they eventually become love interests towards the final arc.
It’s difficult to summarize what this fic, maybe because it so expansive.  But -- it intimately shows Eimi and Koushiro growing up and coming into themselves- which introduces a wide variety of themes.
GUWY Themes
It’s impossible to encapsulate everything here, but some thematic highlights include:
-Growing up in an emotionally abusive household and learning to cope with the resulting trauma
-Independence vs dependence, the dangers of taking either to an extreme
-Toxic self-sacrifice
-Valuing everyone’s strengths and understanding their weaknesses; not everyone has to be good at everything; certain strengths are not superior to others
-The importance of clear, open communication and the dangers of resentment and keeping quiet for the perceived sake of peace
-A long and winding exploration of what strength is, especially for a girl who is becoming a young woman
And to really dig into these, we have to understand who Eimi is, so let’s move on to her!
Anami Eimi
Eimi is the younger child of Anami Eiji and Umeko.  Her brother, Junichi, is about three years older.  She is in Koushiro and Mimi’s year at school.  She bears the crest of Integrity and is partnered to Galemon.
Eimi is a steadfast sort. I like to describe her as the first to cry and the last one standing, simultaneously soft and strong.  She’s smart, cautious, and guarded.  Although her emotional intelligence is high and her social skills are strong, she isn’t very outgoing.  In a group, she is watchful and quiet- until something tugs at her sense of right and wrong, or triggers concern for safety.
In the first arc of the story, we watch Eimi shift from a bossy, confident child to a shy, anxious one, dependent on Koushiro and Taichi for a sense of security.  The change is due to her increased understanding of the emotional abuse happening in her home.  During the beginning of her time in the Digital World, she hovers around Taichi and Koushiro and grows increasingly upset as they are (understandably) unable to attend to her emotional needs.  Her digimon partner, Galemon, encourages her to take action on her own, move away from her dependent behavior, and make new friends.
Eimi is still growing by the end of GUWY, so it’s hard to say where she “ends up.”  Her story continues in Tri: Integrity Lens, where her steadfast nature is shining.  I’d say that, these days, she is still watchful, hardworking, and earnest, but she’s more confident and has a healthier attachment style.  Currently, she’s struggling with taking on too much, all while telling the other Chosen to lean on one another and avoid taking on too much, which I think is peak Eimi.
My Fandom Background
For reference, I watched the English dub of Digimon Adventure when it first aired in the states in 1999.  I was ten (the same age as Mimi and Koushiro).  I wrote digimon fanfics from roughly 2000 to 2004, then left the fandom. I returned in September 2012 as ahiddenpath and launched my Tumblr blog in May 2013 to share art from my fics.
My State While Writing GUWY
My fics aren’t necessarily a reflection of my personality, but they are a reflection of what I was going through while writing them.  When I say that I write to take care of myself, this is a big part of what I mean.  I work through my thoughts on things that are happening to me/weighing on my heart and mind at the time.
GUWY was my first fic as ahiddenpath, so I guess I’ll get this out of the way here.  Eimi is meant to be an original character, not a self-insert, and no, my name is not Amy!  There is a lot of overlap between our personalities, but there are some big differences, too.  The main one I explored in GUWY is that Eimi responded to her abusive environment by becoming too dependent on the few people she deemed safe.  I responded to a similar environment by becoming hyper independent.  Independence vs dependence was likely the only intentional theme from day one. Everything else just kind of… evolved along the way.
When I started GUWY in 2012, I had graduated college a little over a year ago, and mentally, I was in a bad way.  Sometimes, after you fully separate from an abusive environment and find yourself somewhere safe, you actually fall apart worse than when you weren’t safe!  When you’re actively in danger, people tend to focus on staying safe.  When you are safe, there is no longer a need to maintain a front, tip toe around, or just generally focus your energy into staying safe. You might suddenly have time, space, and safety to think, to feel, to reflect- which means that you might begin to understand the damage inflicted more clearly than ever.  And when it was inflicted by family, people who are meant to love and protect you most, that realization can be devastating.
That, I think, is why GUWY is easily my most raw and visceral fic.  These days, I look at it and think, wow, I had no discretion or subtlety in my writing back then!  But I also know that the raw feelings are what readers respond to and relate to.
I think this is kind of… the strongest feature of GUWY?  Adults who went through emotional abuse as children don’t have much media showing a character separating and slowly struggling to cope with what happened to them.  Normally, the abuse is shown to stem from a misunderstanding, and the family reunites. We don’t often see what happens when this isn’t the case.
In fact, most of the Chosen kids are going through some kind of family misunderstanding, and they grow in the Digital World and use their new experience to improve their family situations during Vamdemon’s Siege of Odaiba.  I think one of the things that worked out best about GUWY is that Eimi fills a unique space in the cast.  Her family problems can’t be improved by any amount of growth on her end, because her parents fail to see any problem, and can never be made to see one. In most families, damage can be addressed and healed.  But in some, it simply cannot.  Instead of using her new growth and strength in an attempt to remove salt from the sea, Eimi uses it to navigate her situation and slowly work towards a safer one- and then to recover when she finds herself there.
Even in Tri: Integrity Lens, that recovery is ongoing, which is very important to me.  There is no complete healing from an emotionally abusive childhood.  We learn to cope and try our best ensure that the cycle of abuse ends with us.  It’s not a clean, happy ending, but I think the truth of it resonates with people who have been through something similar.
Characterization in GUWY
GUWY is my biggest mess! I didn’t see the Japanese subbed until Netflix offered it around 2015, so some of the characterizations change drastically over time, as I began blending the English and Japanese characterizations.  There are more mistakes in terminology/honorifics than I can begin to name.  I also aged everyone up about two years, because I always assumed the characters were older than me when I originally watched the show.
The Development of GUWY and Galemon
I wish I could tell you that I carefully and lovingly planned this story.  Alas, I did not.  It’s a visceral, 100% seat of my pants work.  In fact, I wrote the entire Glen introduction chapter on a whim!  Justice and the anomaly stuff were not originally planned.  I think the only bit that received proper planning was the arc where Eimi moves to the states, and where she begins to live more independently and recover directly after.
There are also a few things that are just… dropped.  For example, Galemon was meant to never speak names because of the inherent power they contain, drawing from Irish faerie lore, but I never explored that.  Also, Galemon has no physical voice because Eimi felt that she didn’t have one when Galemon was made- ie, at the beginning of the Digital World arc.  Her bossiness is meant to reflect Eimi’s early childhood bossiness and assertiveness, which she loses along the way.  She uses shields because Eimi feels unsafe all the time, and security is what she wants most.  And her ability to see into Eimi’s mind was, I think, my way of making sure that there was someone out there who understood Eimi, despite her talent for keeping her thoughts to herself.
Speaking of Galemon, I originally designed her when I was ten, and I think that shows!  I was an enormous fan of Lisa Frank, and a huge marine biology dork- I read marine life books the way many kids read dinosaur books- and I think I smushed those concepts together!  I also designed Eimi’s physical appearance and outfit at age ten, although back then, she was purely a self-insert with a different name and personality.  I loved how much she visually fits in with the other Chosen- she looks like a child dressing herself, is what I mean- so I kept the design.
What Would I Change About GUWY?
I won’t lie; I’ve often considered editing GUWY.  Naturally, I’m a better writer ten years later, and I would love to make the fic its best self.  However, I’m aware that its rawness might be its greatest strength, so I’d have to be careful not to remove that.  I would definitely save the edited version as a new Scrivener file, so the old won’t be lost.
Obviously, I’d fix the terminology/honorifics problems and make sure the names are all from the original Japanese, and not an awkward mix of English and Japanese (with a few exceptions).  I’d likely tweak some characterizations, too.  I’d keep the ages as they are, though, mostly because of the romance elements towards the end of the story.
The largest element I’d like to add is an expansion on Eimi meeting the Chosen when she first goes to the Digital World.  At the time, I didn’t know how to handle scenes with so many characters- which remains a challenge- and I zipped right by it for that reason.  But establishing a baseline for how Eimi interacts with everyone is important later, so I want to give that area more love.
Other than that, I’d try to fix the “show, don’t tell” issues that I so often had back then. For example, Eimi has a tendency to stand up and give pontificating speeches at the most dramatic parts of her arcs.  I’d like to tweak things so that her actions speak for themselves, instead of relying on grand speeches.
The Future of Eimi’s Story
Eimi’s story continues in Tri: Integrity Lens!  It’s on hiatus at the time of this recording, but I will return to it either after I finish Puits d’Amour or when I hit a point there where I feel it’s a good place to swap to another fic while I develop the other in the background.

[chapter 8: END] how do you like your sky today?
links (ffn & ao3): https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13563973/8/ & https://archiveofourown.org/works/23853664/chapters/92939548
this marks the end of my very first multichapter in english! it's been a ride for the past couple year, but i'm very happy i was able to finish! i've edited all the previous chapters too for grammatical errors, in case anyone wants to read from the start :) i put a special homage to @sorasfishing with her colors in autumn and @rockthistowninsideout with the german cities. also, a big shoutout to @xnananko for her lovely reviews! i won't make it without you all :)
___
teaser:
A lot of things could happen in three years. Iori had graduated from law school. Jyou officially became a doctor after finishing the residency program. Miyako and Ken were expecting their second child, while Mimi and Yamato would have their first. Mimi also opened a new cafe where Daisuke assisted her if he was not working in the ramen shop. He was saving up as he aimed to open a ramen bar someday. On the other side of the world, Takeru was engaged with Catherine and on his way to publishing his first novel.
However, the most shocking one was probably when she received a wedding invitation from Hikari and Koushiro, now the CEO of his growing company.
Sighing in defeat, Sora peered down in an effort to hide her face. She knew it was stupid to ask, but she said it anyway. "Will he come to the wedding?"
"Sora-san. You know I will kill him for not attending my wedding and he will kill me for having a wedding without him. It's going to be bad blood either way if he doesn't come."
Hikari held Sora's hand in return; her red-stained lips beamed in earnest.
"I also wish you the very best, Sora-san. Your happiness could already be just around the corner, waiting for the right time to show itself."

A meta on Mimi and her character
Tumblr media
Today’s spotlight character is Mimi! While the Adventure characters are all written to subvert character stereotypes (no, really), I feel this is particularly enhanced for Mimi, whose surface demeanor and the first impression you get from her suggest an almost opposite character to whom she actually is.
Disclaimer before we continue: While not to the same extent as Daisuke, Mimi’s disposition and personality have some significant differences in the American English dub compared to the original Japanese. As usual, this is not meant to be any particular comment about the dub’s changes, but simply that if you’ve only seen that dub, are reading this post, and are thinking “that doesn’t seem right?” that would probably be why.
Mimi’s family background and attitude prior to Adventure
Like with any of the other Adventure characters, understanding Mimi’s personality and why she acts the way she does is most easily done by starting with her family background.
We first meet Mimi’s family in Adventure episode 35.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a lot to unpack with only this scene alone, so let’s get started!
Mimi’s family is quite well-to-do. They’re not filthy rich or anything, but they’re well-to-do enough for Mimi’s father to work freelancer (he works in music). This means that Mimi grew up with a fairly “comfortable” life, probably getting pretty much anything she asked for -- in other words, she’s spoiled. It also explains why she’s actually pretty impeccably polite to everyone -- she adheres very firmly to honorifics when speaking to both elders and younger people, and never, ever speaks roughly or aggressively, because her parents have basically been raising her like a “lady of the house” (ojousama) or princess. (She does use casual-form Japanese, but she never lets up on the honorifics.)
They’re very open-minded. We learn in this episode that Mimi’s bizarre food tastes in liking natto on her eggs with sugar (from Adventure episode 6) most likely come from her mother, Satoe, cooking things like kimchi fried rice with whipped cream and strawberries. In other words, the family is very into the idea of “unconventional and strange” and has no qualms about it.
While Mimi in 02 is portrayed as liking practically any kind of fashion aesthetic imaginable, both her room and the overall decor of the apartment suggest that “in-your-face cute” is the generally favored one.
Mimi’s family is also extremely affectionate. They smother each other in lovey-dovey words, her father actively likes Satoe’s weird cooking ideas, and it’s a household where everyone seems to dote on and mutually love and support each other (Mimi’s parents are almost embarrassingly lovey-dovey) without restraint.
The result is that Mimi ends up “spoiled sweet” -- she’s pampered and used to a comfortable life where everyone dotes on her, but because of the family dynamic being so built on “affection” and “open-mindedness”, she also never develops a streak towards condescension or malice.
What does that mean, you might ask?
Mimi in Adventure
A lot of people remember Mimi by the fact that she was “whining a lot” in the early stages of Adventure, and the fact that she’s a “girly-girl” with some of the associated stereotypes. As a result, one may be surprised to hear that her behavior is actually supposed to be mostly representative of an average child in her situation, and she’s often described in press materials as “someone who can befriend anyone” or “someone who can get along with anyone”. Even her official website profile talks about how pretty much everyone considers her likeable.
This may seem difficult to believe at first, but you might actually notice a pattern when it comes to her “complaining” -- it pretty much always boils down to one of the following, or something along these lines:
I’m scared
I’m tired
I don’t like this/I don’t want that
I want a bath/bed/food/(some other home comfort)
I want to go home
In other words, Mimi is basically reacting like an average child would when thrown into another world out of nowhere! All of her complaints are out of low tolerance and high sensitivity -- all of these scary and uncomfortable things around her are making her feel bad, and she’s not hesitating to make that clear with her words.
However -- and this is very important -- these are all things she’s saying specifically because she’s now in a dangerous, unfamiliar situation in another world. All of these things are things she says defensively, because she’s sensitive to being uncomfortable or hurt, but she is also never aggressive towards others. In completely normal situations -- ones where all she’s doing is socializing at school -- it’s not hard to believe that she would actually be one of the nicest and most considerate people on the planet and that she would be instantly likeable to anyone she meets. Why? Because she lacks condescension or malice. She’s a very nice person who, if not for being under heavy stress, would never step on anyone’s toes. Even during those early episodes of Adventure, whenever there’s “down time” and they’re not in an uncomfortable situation or being chased by something, she goes back to being polite and respectful of others (remember: she’s one of the most adherent to honorifics among the cast), and is perfectly kind and agreeable with them.
As much as she may sometimes get demanding during the early episodes of Adventure, she also doesn’t expect her peers to cater to her nor does she look down on them. One of the biggest examples comes from the Adventure novel:
Mi–chan was pointing at the front of the bus, where a boy wearing a long–sleeved orange shirt was about to get off. Even Mimi knew who he was. They hardly ever talked together, but he was her classmate, Koushiro Izumi. Mi–chan wanted them to look at what Koushiro was carrying on his back – a wireless laptop. “Isn’t he so weird for bringing that all the way to camp?” Mi–chan sneered with mocking laughter, but Mimi didn’t laugh. She simply didn’t find any reason to.
In a situation where people are mocking this weirdo kid for bringing his laptop to camp, Mimi “sees no reason” to look down on him. To her, what’s the point? It’s not fun to be malicious towards others, and she sees no benefit in dunking on him. Hence, because she’s actually very polite and open-minded towards others, and doesn’t see any reason to be mean, she’s not mean, and so you can see why everyone would like her -- after all, she’s not only bright and cheerful, she’s also polite and kind! Who wouldn’t like such a nice person?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mimi’s first “focus episode” is Adventure episode 6, and we already see a lot of these traits in action. Mimi gets to see the other kids making absolute fools of themselves under Monzaemon’s brainwashing, but the most she has to say is just observing that they seem to not be having fun, and being worried about their well-being. Once she finds out the truth behind what he did to them, she gets extremely angry on her friends’ behalf -- she actually calls them her “friends”, despite them barely knowing each other at this point!
Tumblr media
And then when the Numemon step in to fight for her, despite her initially having been turned off by them (mainly because they make her uncomfortable, both by indulging in literal poop around her presence and by invading her personal space by flirting with her), she actually almost breaks down in tears over them!
What this all means is that Mimi’s “high sensitivity” also translates to something else: Mimi has extremely high empathy for others. In terms of being “sensitive”, she’s also sensitive to how other people feel. She worries about others’ welfare constantly, even when they’re poop-throwing slime monsters who had just flirted with her, or near-stranger classmates who just happen to have been thrown onto this adventure with her whom she barely knows. That’s why she’s so nice to other people -- she feels for them, and she constantly empathizes with others’ emotions, so that’s why she’s never rude to others nor does she step on their toes.
It’s also why, even after Koushirou rubs her the wrong way and momentarily causes her to lash out at him for being insensitive about her feelings in Adventure episode 10, she also never seems to hold a grudge against him thereafter (especially since, for as much as he was acting pretty frustrating, she understands he was doing it out of good intentions). In fact, Mimi is pretty much incapable of holding a grudge at all. (More on this later!)
Tumblr media
Mimi’s most famous incident of “succumbing to her vices” is Adventure episode 25, when she ends up letting the Geckomon and Otamamon pamper her while stringing along and refusing to do the job they’d needed her for in the first place (singing to wake TonosamaGeckomon). Let’s go over what led to Mimi getting in this situation:
Mimi was basically at her limit. She had been in the Digital World for what had been implied to be months. Going that long without her bath or soft bed or comfort, it’s understandable that she finally let stress overcome her and succumbed to her vices in full. This is basically Mimi at one of her worst possible breaking points, not her most of the time.
Taichi, Jou, and their partners never gave her a very good reason why they should leave (Taichi never explained the problems going on in the real world, nor that he’d even taken a pit stop there) and now, for all she knows, they’re trapped in the Digital World forever, so when she sees an offer to make it all stop hurting, she naturally takes it -- especially when the people telling her to leave aren’t giving her any reason why except that she should.
Even despite all that, Mimi has a complete mental breakdown after her tantrum ends up throwing everyone in jail, dreaming about how everyone must hate her now and how even the Geckomon and Otamamon are tiring of her (the fact this pops up in her dream implies that she’d had a feeling this was coming for a while now). Sora comes to give her a little encouragement, but even she says that Mimi already really knows what she should be doing now. Mimi ends up bringing everyone out to apologize to them and fulfill her duty before the night is even over.
So let’s recap: Mimi is so empathetic and worried about other people’s feelings and what they think of her that, even in arguably one of the worst mental health crashes we’ve ever seen her have on screen, she still breaks down at the prospect of disappointing everyone and making them hate her to the point she immediately recognizes how far she’s fallen and takes it back before the night’s even over. That is how much other people, ranging from Taichi to a crowd of Digimon she’s only vaguely acquainted with, matter to her.
The full “payoff” for this episode in terms of the light of the Crest of Purity glowing and achieving Lilimon evolution does not happen until Adventure episode 35.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is interesting for a lot of reasons, mainly because it involves all of the events happening in response to things that don’t sound very virtuous on their face (early in the episode, Mimi insensitively comments on Palmon being “bad taste”, and later in the episode she starts considering the Digimon tormenting others unforgivable).
The “Crest of Purity” (sometimes “Innocence”) is something that’s often been difficult to translate, mainly because the easiest words that come to mind often have other unwanted implications, but the real point of it is that, again, Mimi is lacking in malice. The way she talks to Palmon at the beginning of the episode indicates she really didn’t think Palmon would take it seriously (she even urges her to “not think too much into it”), only to find out at the end of the episode that she sort of kind of did. (Trust me, she’s very sorry about it.) The other thing is that, when she starts protesting at the Digimon at the end of the episode, she’s doing this specifically because she’s weeping on behalf of all of the tormented civilians (including her family) that are being caught in the crossfire. She’s so constantly empathetic towards other people that seeing other people hurt, regardless of how well she knows them, just eats her inside. So for her, those who cause that kind of suffering are unforgivable, because they’re inflicting that pain on others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is also what leads to her breakdown near the three-quarters mark of the series. Like with how she eventually came to empathize with the Numemon who fought on her behalf, Mimi holds no grudge against Scumon and Chuumon despite them having flirted with her earlier, and Chuumon taking a hit for her hurts her the deepest among all of the other kids. Because Mimi is so empathetic towards others, every death starts tearing away further until she finally can’t take it anymore.
Mimi is fundamentally the kind of person who hates fighting, and even from day one she’d never liked it -- her way of “encouraging” fighting was more like hoping that Palmon (or her evolved forms) could survive. If she wanted to win, it was in the sense of wanting everyone to Not Die; she was never belligerent. But now that the actual body count of people she considers friends is rising, she associates fighting so deeply with that body count that the pain gets to her, and the last straw breaks in Adventure episode 45 in the form of two people she considers friends, Taichi and Yamato, getting in a fight. Everyone around her is hurt. Everyone around her is pain. The naturally empathetic Mimi feels all of this, and she thus decides to pull back from the fighting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mimi being such a firm pacifist does have its benefits -- not only does it mean that she holds no grudge against Ogremon in Adventure episode 46 and bid for treating his wounds even though Jou (understandably!) is initially more skeptical because of how he’d initially tried to kill them, she also creates a major dent in Ogremon’s “fated rival” philosophy towards Leomon by forcing him to question: so what if you do defeat your rival? Then what? What’s the point of fighting? Does it actually make you feel better to try and prove your strength this way? (Even Leomon, for all he’s portrayed as noble, is still shown to have a petty investment in his conflict with Ogremon in the following episode.) Ogremon tries not to think too hard about it, but Mimi questioning “what he would do if Leomon were gone” becomes a question he really does have to confront when Leomon dies in the next episode...
Tumblr media
...which is also an important learning lesson for Mimi herself as well: fighting may cause collateral damage, but not fighting doesn’t help things either, because when less-than-virtuous forces are at work, casualties will happen either way. In fact, it’s even worse to be a sitting duck, because now you’re just doing nothing when people die right in front of you. Which is a lesson that Jou had wanted to tell her earlier, but didn’t know how to describe to her in words because of his own complicated feelings:
What he wanted to tell her was this: that he didn’t see any likelihood of co-existing with the Dark Masters, and that they had no other choice but to fight them. Even a neutral country like Switzerland had a military. They would be invaded by enemy countries without one. It would be nice and ideal if they used the nonviolent resistance approach as Ghandi did. But that didn’t mean it was okay to just be killed without lifting a finger… But not even he could find a good answer.
Tumblr media
However, Mimi is still a pacifist. Even if she finally understands that fighting is necessary, that should not mean that she should now force herself to become someone gung-ho and enthusiastic about it. This is why, in Adventure episode 50, Jou contemplates different ways they can productively contribute to the fight -- because Mimi should not be obligated to personally fight herself when it’s not in her fundamental nature, and Jou personally does not feel that he’s very good at it. But Jou, having put some thought into “one’s own path”, realizes that literal physical violence fighting isn’t the only way to be “part of the fight” -- and so while Jou starts to realize that his unique role is becoming someone who can be a capable healer and doctor for those who are wounded, Mimi has her own talents that she can use to bring Digimon and other allies together. Because Mimi is a kind and charismatic person whom everyone finds likeable and would be willing to come along with, and since she holds no grudges against anyone, nobody would hold any grudges against her, so she’s perfect for the role of “bringing people together for the sake of what they want to protect”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she does. Adventure being a series that respects the contributions of those who don’t necessarily participate by direct fighting, Mimi’s rallying together of the Digimon becomes key to saving everyone in Adventure episode 52, and the fact that everyone’s together in the end makes for a great group photo.
Tumblr media
Speaking of the final episode, in case the point hadn’t been driven home enough that Mimi’s the most empathetic and emotionally sensitive of the entire cast, the series famously ends on her very emotionally compromised farewell with Palmon. Of course, Palmon’s the one who kind of initiated it (she’s the one who initially refuses to see Mimi because she’s too emotionally compromised), but, after all, the series ends on Mimi being so frazzled about it that she loses her hat.
Mimi in 02 and beyond
Tumblr media
As with the other Adventure kids, Mimi’s character arc continues in 02, and we learn a lot about her before she even makes her first personal appearance!
Firstly, we learn that Mimi’s moved to America. The in-universe reason is that it’s for her father’s work...or, at least, ostensibly so, because 02 episode 40 implies that the actual reason was that her parents wanted them to be away from Digimon incidents. (Which, of course, didn’t last very long.) The meta reason for Mimi moving, however, very likely has to do with the fact that 02 involves a subplot of Chosen Children appearing all over the world, and Mimi’s character involves an innate talent for bringing people together.
We learn in Two-and-a-Half Year Break that Mimi moved in 2001, only one year before 02′s events, and eventually got caught in the 9/11 incident -- where she met a number of other American Chosen Children in New York and, now much stronger of heart since the events of Adventure, was able to help them in the recovery efforts, despite there being a language barrier. With this, and the fact she’s shown at a huge party in 02 episode 14: they’re not kidding when they say Mimi can become friends with pretty much anyone. Even going to an entirely different country and dealing with a language and cultural barrier, Mimi is such a naturally kind and compassionate person that she immediately doesn’t have any problem fitting in. (Because, really, someone that level of kind and friendly is hard to dislike.) And in a world where international solidarity between Chosen Children is getting more and more important, that is a very valuable role to have.
Tumblr media
The other thing we find out early about Mimi in 02 episode 2 is that Sora catches on that Miyako is a lot like Mimi, based on the fact that Miyako also is empathetic and has an aversion to fighting. And Sora’s completely right, because when Mimi does come into the picture, the similarities -- and differences -- between her and Miyako say a lot about both characters.
Tumblr media
When Mimi arrives in Japan in 02 episode 6 (for her cousin’s wedding), she and Miyako immediately get along with each other, and Miyako instantly role-models her, to the point of claiming her as an honorary older sister (despite already having older sisters herself!). It’s not surprising; Mimi and Miyako are both very bright and cheerful people, and Miyako even shares the background of being slightly pampered by her family (although presumably more due to her being the youngest of several siblings). Mimi, for her part, continues her trend of being likeable and fond of pretty much everything (including even her beloved tuna-mayo onigiri that she hadn’t had for so long), and is perfectly happy to be tight with Miyako.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Digitamamon incident in 02 episode 14, however, adds an extra layer into why Miyako idolizes Mimi so much besides Mimi just being cool in general: Mimi is kind, forgiving, mature, and incapable of holding a grudge -- to the point her pacifistic tendencies kick in even when Digitamamon gets hit by a Evil Spiral and she refuses to fight him, despite him literally starting to beat her up. Again, Mimi came to understand the inevitability of having to fight back in Adventure, but Digitamamon is, to her, a friend who was trying his hardest to turn over a new leaf -- so, naturally, she tries to see if she can appeal to his heart instead. Miyako, on the other hand, is on the opposite extreme -- she’s so judgmental about her poor first impression with Digitamamon that, despite fully knowing well that Evil Spirals cause their victims to lose their ability to have reason, keeps trying to use it as evidence that Digitamamon was a traitor from the get-go.
Considering that the “secondary Digimentals” arc is largely about Daisuke, Miyako, and Iori coming to terms with their deficiencies in their respective traits and aspiring to do better, Miyako unfavorably compares herself to Mimi because Mimi is everything she wants to be and currently isn’t. Unlike Mimi, Miyako is aggressive, in-your-face, occasionally judgmental, belligerent, sometimes insensitive (not by choice), and often shallow, which she fully admits to in this episode. Of course, the reason Miyako gets the Digimental of Purity (Mimi’s trait) is because she hates this about herself -- even in 02 episode 31, she gives herself no shortage of grief for her foot-in-mouth syndrome and the fact she’s not as “kind” of a person she wants to be, and she herself is also fundamentally devoid of malice, just quick to jump to conclusions and a bit sidetracked by first impressions. (After all, Mimi was guilty of being accidentally insensitive when she called Palmon lacking in taste back in Adventure; the point is that when both of them do it, they really don’t mean badly, and end up sorry for it later.)
But that’s a story for another post about Miyako; more importantly, the reason Miyako is harsh on herself about this in this episode is that, in many ways, she’s everything Mimi is not, because Mimi is empathetic and mature and polite and never steps on anyone’s toes.
Tumblr media
02 episode 25 gives us more to work with; first of all, she’s depicted in yet another completely different hair and fashion style (which she brings up another of during the winter season), and her drastic shifts in style indicate more of her “open-mindedness”; she’s open to trying out tons of new things and is willing to like just about anything. More importantly, however, she turns out to be completely open-minded about recruiting Ken to help out, even though she’s well aware of what he’d done as the Kaiser (and, again, Miyako sees her ability to be forgiving as something to look up to). Because, again, Mimi doesn’t hold a grudge; she doesn’t send anything accusatory or forceful to Ken, but simply believes that he should be given the chance to know what’s going on and help out if he so chooses, which becomes key to Miyako herself also choosing to accept Ken at the end of the episode.
Tumblr media
Given that Mimi is portrayed as so open-minded towards trying all sorts of things, it’s probably no surprise that her “career” in Kizuna is so different from what we eventually know she’ll be doing in the epilogue -- instead of her cooking show, we see her running an online shopping business. After all, with her being so open-minded about wanting to do potentially anything, it’s very like her to "dabble” in a few different experimental things before (or perhaps “without”!) settling for something. What we know about this business is also quite on brand for her; her business specializes in “cute” (her preferred aesthetic, which she also shamelessly dresses in), and she’s established as setting up business all over the world to the point she has to constantly travel. Presumably, her natural charisma made it easy for her to set up connections.
Interestingly, her website profile also omits any discussion of any kind of university or other post-secondary education, implying that, unlike the others, she chose to dive directly into her career after high school. Again, it’s quite like her to find something she wanted to do and pursue it the moment it was in front of her -- no matter what it is, as long as it’s interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mimi’s largest amount of focus in regards to the movie is in To Sora, where she’s seen checking in on Sora after noticing she hasn’t been in the group chat in a while -- again, as someone constantly empathetic to how her friends are doing, it’s natural that she’s the one who catches on and decides she needs to check in. As someone who loves uplifting and supporting her friends first and foremost, she happens to be fully aware of what everyone’s currently up to (compare how Taichi had to be actively updated on Sora and Takeru’s status from Yamato in the movie proper), and also provides nothing but positive supportiveness to Sora’s troubles during their conversation -- as usual, always respectful and polite, and never condescending.
And, of course, she naturally empathizes with Sora having hesitation about fighting -- both because she’s been busy herself, but also because she, of course, understands exactly how it feels for fighting to be emotionally taxing -- and declares that she’ll support Sora with whatever she does, just like how she found her own path back in Adventure by choosing to contribute by bringing people together instead of fighting. She makes do on this promise as well, considering that she keeps up with supporting Sora during her exhibition.
Tumblr media
By the time of the 02 epilogue, Mimi has decided to change tracks entirely and go for cooking, which, while being very different, is also very on-brand. This time, the part about “cooking” is something that comes from her family, since, after all, experimental cooking (...of some kind) was something Satoe got the whole family to embrace. The exact nature of her job is literally “culinary researcher”, which is a Japanese catch-all to refer to the sort of “food critic” who experiments with food and writes extensively (or, in this case, runs a TV show) about different ways you can enjoy and put together food, which also goes in mind with her streak of “open-mindedness”. The common point is, really, that everything Mimi does comes out of positivity, supportiveness, and love.

AHH OMG OMG okay, okay let's do this.
📚 Who likes to read?
I'd like to say both, but Yamato more than Mimi. Yamato would enjoy reading in itself, so he'd read anything be it fiction or non-fiction. For early morning commutes, you'd see him with at least three different newspapers, or on his way home from work you'd see him with a book or a comic magazine. He's the kind of person who packs like 5 books for a two hour flight knowing very well that he wouldn't even finish one of them. He only trusts Takeru, Koushiro and Jou's recommendations and is always wary of the stuff Taichi and Mimi give to him, he does read them but with a very careful and critical eye.
Mimi reads too, but possibly only comics (mangas) and romance novels or fashion/lifestyle magazines. She never touches a book recommended to her by Yamato or Koushiro, no matter how hard the two try to convince her to read it (and trust me Yamato and Koushiro make a very convincing team lol). Her and Sora subscribe to the same magazines and blogs so they usually end up discussing these at length more often than not.
They both of course, read everything Takeru writes. They're always the first ones to line up outside a store to buy the first copy and always attend his live readings/signing events.
🔥 Who will punch someone out if they are rude to their partner?
Again, I'm thinking both!
But I think Yamato would be more aggressive or quick to react, (I mean the way he was throwing hands with Taichi left, right and centre in Tri) and with Mimi it would at first be more about firing back with her words first, and the situation would really have to be bad for her to resort to fist-fighting.
Thank you Anon 💚💙

All the times the Digimon Adventure novels showed us that Taichi and Koushirou are exceptionally close. [Part 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
“Koushirou quietly sneaked out through his window onto the streets and stood in front of Taichi’s condominium. (…) Koushirou and [Motimon] rode the condo elevator up to stand in front of the door with the nameplate “Yagami” on it. (…) Hesitant to ring the intercom switch at this time of night, Koushiro decided to return to his room and call up Taichi instead.”

things Toei animation could give me in Digimon Adventure 2020
that will AUTOMATICALLY make me happy REGARDLESS OF ANYTHING:
Koushiro getting screentime
Koushiro getting ACTIVE screentime where he ISN’T JUST BEHIND THE TABLET / COMPUTER
Koushiro’s adoption storyline being kept FULLY
Koushiro’s adoption storyline being updated for a 2020 audience while still retaining the impact of the original
MRS YOSHIE - AKA - KAE IZUMI APPEARING
IN ANY INSTANCE
TALKING WITH KOUSHIRO
MR IZUMI TOO WOULD BE NICE BASICALLY IZUMI FAMILY
KOUSHIRO TALKING TO TAICHI YAGAMI
and not just in the infodumping!Koushiro sense
more screentime for Taichi + Koushiro relationship ANYTHING
Koushiro having a better / improved friendship with Mimi than he did in original Adventure series
more Koushiro + Hikari interactions (+ WITH TAICHI)
more Taichi + Yamato + Koushiro OT3 moments (+less fighting)
KOUSHIRO + JOU INTERACTIONS ( ANYTHING )
basically ANY OF THE ABOVE
KOUSHIRO BEING ACKNOWLEDGED
( + BY THE GROUP IN GENERAL )
PREFERABLY THE FORBIDDEN KOUSHIRO-ON-TAICHI’S SOCCER TEAM/CLUB THAT WE NEVER GOT IN-SHOW THAT WAS IN THE ADVENTURE NOVELS (bolding/italics mine for emphasis!):
As they walked, Koushiro asked Tentomon many things about this region and about Digimon. While doing so, he couldn’t help but feel a slight self–derision snorting at him in the back of his mind. Never before had he talked so much to a stranger, even if that stranger wasn’t a human being. In the days before he had left for camp, he normally avoided taking the initiative to talk to others in school. He didn’t like getting involved with them. Especially not when he didn’t even know who in the world he was. As a matter of course, his classmates rarely had a chance to talk with him. Many thought that he was hard to get along with, and Koushiro personally didn’t find that inconvenient so he did nothing to persuade them otherwise. Taichi Yagami was one of the few exceptions. Because their school curriculum had a physical education requirement, Koushiro was forced to choose a club. It was a mere coincidence that he chose the soccer club. He wouldn’t have to face people one-on-one if he was in a club emphasizing teamwork rather than individual achievement, and the positions in soccer appeared more vague than they were in baseball. He felt that in the soccer club, he wouldn’t have to go out of his way to engage with other people. Taichi was an upperclassman in that soccer club. It wasn’t that he was extremely talkative, but Taichi treated everyone without discrimination, as equals. That attitude of his didn’t change, even towards Koushiro. If Taichi hadn’t invited him, Koushiro was sure that he would have never gone to summer camp.
- from the Adventure novels translation by Onkei
^ AKA: THE FORBIDDEN TAICHI+KOUSHIRO BACKSTORY
WOULD BE VERY NICE TO HAVE TOO @ TOEIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
BONUS: - THE SUMMARY FOR DIGIADV 2020 STATES - THE 1ST EPISODE TAKES PLACE - “ BEFORE ” TAICHI’S SUMMER CAMP at the “ END of the week ”---------
- “ The main character is fifth grader Taichi Yagami, who lives in a high-rise apartment building in the Tokyo suburbs. He has stayed at home alone in order to prepare for his summer camp at the end of the week, ”
- “  In the days before [KOUSHIRO] had left for camp, he normally avoided taking the initiative to talk to others in school. ” - IF TAICHI HADN’T INVITED HIM, Koushiro WAS SURE THAT HE WOULD HAVE NEVER GONE TO SUMMER CAMP.

Digiweek Day 7 - Free day | TAIORA DISCORD ANNOUNCEMENT!
It's the 1st of August, Odaiba Memorial Day and @digiweek is coming to an end. So this day I would like to end Digiweek and celebrate the 1st of August with a little bang...
Tumblr media
As some of you might know we are currently building a Taiora Discord server. It's not open yet, we want to be prepared in the best way possible and I can tell you: we're on our way! And it's gonna be awesome! :D
This way we would like to announce we have our minds set on opening up the server in 5 weeks from now! Mark it down in every calendar you own: SUNDAY 5TH OF SEPTEMBER 12AM (GMT+1)!
Yes, the server will be mainly Taiora focused, but you don't have to be a ride or die Taiora-shipper or whatsoever to join. Every multi-shipper (yes for taishiro, sorato, michi, sokari, taikeru, jyoura, taisuke, sorako but also takari, mimato, jyoumi, koukari, koumi, daikeru, kenyako and so onnn), every poly-shipper (taiorato, taikoura, taiorami :D), every 30+ years old-shipper, hell, even every non-shipper (who does appreciate the Taiora ship or either Taichi or Sora or is still figuring out the wonderful world of digi-shipping) is welcome. It's important to us we can 1) build an open and safe community for Digimon-lovers and 2) connect all the Taiora appreciators from all over the world. Spread the love and courage!
The banner/header at the top of this announcement post is made by the amazing and talented @earlgreymon, who also happened to be one of the mods of this crazy Digiweek event. So please PLEASE give her a big round of applause! And don't forget to applaud @tangledupblue as well ^^
Interested in joining the server eventually? Leave a message, a like, a reblog. (Don't forget to signal boost by reblogging! It's appreciated <3)
Questions? Send me an ask! Or one of the other builders, whom I will now proudly present:
@noctisfishing @doingfondue @snarkyredvelvetlover @stoppingtosmelltheflowers @seventeenlovesthree (and myself @dutchforstrangers)
For now! Follow the #TaioraDiscordServer -tag for updates. Countdown to September 5th starts NOW :D

TAIORA SHIPPERS UNITE
Tumblr media
Source [x]. Thanks to @earlgreymon for pointing me in the direction of this pic.
Last week this very sweet Anon found my Tumblr filled with my never ending courageous love for Taichi and Sora, a.k.a. Taiora <3
Anon asked me about a possible Taiora Discord server. It got me thinking and I’m ready to do an experiment! Because Taiora deserves all the love it can get.
Here’s the deal:
I’m a team player, a brainstormer and dislike working solo. Besides, I’m an ‘on-the-go learner’. So I’m looking for a maximum of 10 Taiora shippers/lovers/likers who want to figure out the wonderful world of Discord with me and build a Taiora server together. This will be for a maximum of 2 months.
Together we can make up the terms/rules/guidelines, channels, roles, et cetera. To me it’s important to create an open and safe space!
We can try some of the features, maybe divide roles (because I don’t feel like moderating this thing all by myself...) and so on. This way I/we can prepare ourselves properly before we open it up to a wider audience!
If you’re interested in taking part in the experiment group/builders group you can send me a message here! I haven’t figured out how to send invitations or how to add new members to a server in Discord yet, so if you do know how to please let me know haha!
If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Discord eventually without being part of the experiment group, you can send me a message as well ;)
For now! Don’t forget to spread the word by liking and/or reblogging this post!
Let's fly high on this Taiora bird, together! <3

All the Taiora Discord Server - we are OPEN!!!
Taichi: Sora...? What's a 'Taiora'?
Sora: Seriously? Baka...
Taichi: What??! Why you're calling me an idiot, again...?!
Sora: Because you are one. Anyway, Taiora is our names combined, you see 'Tai' is for Taichi and 'ora' is for Sora. People use it to show others they ship us platonically and/or romantically.
Taichi: Ahaaaa... I like it. I ship it.
Sora: Ba-
Taichi: And don't you dare to call me an idiot again! You're shipping 'Taiora' just as hard as others do. Admit it hehe...
Sora: Fine. Yes, I ship us too.
Taichi: Good. Now continue your make out session with the idiot you ship yourself with...
Sora: Oi! Taichi~
