@unfortunate17 and I were discussing Wille’s anxiety and how we don’t feel like Wille’s reluctance to partake in public speaking was a result of his anxiety, but rather his history of being forced to speak and say things he doesn’t mean and follow a script in order to preserve the reputation of his family and control the public’s perception of him. He was forced to follow a script three times in season 1 - the first when he had to apologize on TV for a fight he was not sorry about, when he had to read a written speech to his classmates regarding his brother who had just died, and when he was forced to lie about the video leading to the destruction of his relationship with Simon.
In my opinion Wille’s fear of public speaking in season 2 is not related to general or social anxiety - as I do not believe Wille has social anxiety at all and is not shy at all despite some people in the fandom tending to believe he is - but rather a fear of being perceived, because that is ultimately Wille’s main struggle in the series - not being with a boy, not being in love with a gay, not being queer, but being perceived by others and feeling forced to live up to a certain standard or expectation when all he wants to do is live his life truthfully and without people having opinions about the things he does.
What’s so powerful and beautifully written about the scenes with Boris is that even though Wille is made to see a therapist by his mother, the Queen, who is the one who persuaded/forced him speak out when he didn’t want to, Wille’s sessions with Boris are the first time he is told he doesn’t have to say anything if he doesn’t want to, and the confidentiality of their sessions and Boris’ position as an unbiased professional allows him to be more honest with not only himself, but with another person without feeing like he is being judged or forced to feel or believe something he doesn’t.
We see in season 1 episode 4, when Wille goes off script and speaks from the heart about Erik, and in season 2 episode 6 when he once again goes off script, that Wille really has no issues with speaking to a crowd, but only when he feels he’s being truthful and honest and in control of the narrative. His fear of speaking in the class presentation, in my opinion, has a lot to do with how out of control of his own narrative Wille felt throughout season 2 as a result of the lie at the end of season 1 and the events of season 2 - he is perceived by his classmates now as having denied being a part of the video, as if it was something to be ashamed of, he is perceived as being interested in Felice when in reality he’s desperately in love with Simon. He just wants to exist and stay true to himself and it scares him to do it in front of an audience, and that’s what makes it so powerful when we see him slowly begin to accept how he feels about himself and the circumstances of his life through the sessions with Boris, and how that results with him re-taking control of his own narrative at the Jubilee at the end of the season, and that’s just beautiful writing.

yeah this is the version i would've preferred i guess. with mhok still going to the usa and it being emotional and him trusting day to take care of himself and forgiving himself for not having picked up his sister's phone call still being obstacles he has to work through; but without the break-up. i'm just not convinced break-ups are the only way to convey couples working through a rough patch and needing their own space to grow you know?

(This isn't bait, and you don't need to answer it if you don't want to). What's your beef with heartstopper?
The author and I have the same favorite mangaka but they tried to claim her as a "one of the good ones defying all problematic elements (of the gross bl genre of course)" without knowing that . One of the only other scanlated works from same mangaka is a psychological horror incest BL with every trigger warning under the sun
Also I hate white British people but that's on me #listening and learning

(about aroace alastor)
... aroace people can date people????? where did you people find the impression that we can't or that we don't feel romantic or sexual love /lh. information about aroace people is so limited and far / few in between that if viv were to actually canonize alastor's sexuality, he would be amazing representation alongside being shipped or canonically being in a relationship. there is so little aroace representation like that and i crave to see more!!!!
to explain further, the general definiton for aromantic and/or asexual is a "orientation defined by a lack of or limited sexual/romantic attraction". some aro/aces feel absolutely no attraction in these aspects, some feel it sometimes or only towards certain types of people, and some people have fluid/ever changing feelings.
for example, aegosexual, which describes someone who feels disconnected from the subject of arousal, generally have little to no sexual attraction, but still consume sexual content, engage in sexual fantasies, or even masturbate! another example is lithromantic, which describes someone who feels romantic attraction but doesn't want it reciprocated or loses attraction when it's reciprocated, they may enjoy romantic relationships in theory but most likely will feel no romantic attraction or enjoyment in a romantic relationship.
i beg you guys, please learn about each of the spectrums before engaging in discourse about it. there are so many beautiful and cool labels people use to describe themselves, and if someone whose on either spectrum could see themselves in alastor and ship him even so, that's another win. please
- an aroace
Oh, definitely! Thank you for the informative ask.

Tbh I don't really mind the "pay to not see ads" business model because to me it is significantly preferable to the more common business model of "never stop seeing ads forever even if you pay us because we are an advertising platform first, anything else is secondary" that a lot of websites and apps seem to employ these days.

there is literally no genuine context I can imagine lemon and tangerine being paternal in for a long-term situation (aka, they would never have or raise a kid together, Ever) but as I was reminding myself that the notion of them being parents doesn’t hold water, this angst-ridden and super complicated idea hit me out of the blue where they had a baby together as teenagers and immediately put it up for adoption.
obviously I don’t think I’m really the right person to tackle this concept in long form, but one of them would have to be trans or pre-transition and it was a complete accident in their mid to late teens wherein they had no business or means to care for a child. there would have been a lot of turmoil of various stripes going on, and I do think it would’ve driven lemon and tangerine apart Emotionally (not physically) for some time wherein they decided to only date other people or not date at all...but then they get older and things change; business opportunities arise and start growing, they formulate their new identities and professional reputation together, and a career as The Twins slowly unfolds.
15+ years go by. hell, maybe even 18. they’ve had no contact with their biological child this whole time and in different ways it’s privately haunted both of them, but they’ve always known it was for the best given their line of work and the danger they regularly put themselves in.
after the shinkansen job goes off the rails, lemon and tangerine eventually return to london—both a bit mangled and worse for wear, but strikingly alive and temporarily taking a leave of absence from work for an undetermined length of time. and something slowly changes in this new chapter of renewed life where they have a massive row or two and then mutually decide, together, to look for their kid on the sly, thinking the child [now essentially an adult] will want nothing to do with either of their biological parents. little do they know their kid has already been tracking them in the months before they even left for Tokyo to take the White Death’s job. cue the music 👏💥
