Dr. Holden Taylor was truly not a very good person. He had hurt so many, and he was feared by an even greater number. A scientist by trade, Dr. Taylor often tormented and even experimented on others just for his own entertainment. Restraints, sensory deprivation, sleep deprivation, electrocution.. Just a mere mention of these words could bring a deranged sparkle to the doctor's eyes. He lived alone in a remote area- less attention that way for when he decided to bring home a... Guest. But Dr. Taylor was a gruff and stoic man that didn't get along with many. Due to this, he usually never got any visitors at all. That's why his blood ran cold at the sound of a timid knock at his front door.
He stood up from his desk, adjusting the soft bathrobe he wore around the house when he worked from home.
"Hold on- coming." He shouted. The heavy oak front door opened with a loud creak. Holden paused, staring at his visitor in confusion. There was the smaller figure of a person he didn't recognize standing in front of him.
"Um, h-hi! I'm looking for Dr. Taylor...? I-is this his residence?" Their slightly shaking voice stumbled over their words, obviously nervous.
"Yes, I am Dr. Taylor. Can I help you with something?" He stared down at the figure, one eyebrow raised questioningly. The person in front of him shuffled back and forth on their feet, shifting their weight nervously as they pushed their messy, dark hair out of their face.
"O-oh! I um, hi! Um.. phew this is a lot harder than when I practiced" they inhaled shakily, "S-Sorry- my name is Rhys. Rhys Jenkins. I uh, I kind of heard.. about you, and I uh.. I wanted to... I mean, if you are okay with it-"
Holden sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, becoming irritated with the nervous wreck of a person in front of him. "I'm in the middle of something if you don't mind. Come back when you know what you want." He said gruffly. He began to close the door on them, but it stopped abruptly when they shoved their foot in the way.
"Wait!" They finally piped up. Holden stared down at them, incredulous that they would dare do something so stupid. He scowled, already becoming angry.
"Do you have any idea who-" Holden began before being interrupted again.
"I-I'm sorry. Can I... Could I come in..? I uh..." They trailed off, fishing something out of their pocket. "I brought my... Own... But if you want to use a different one..."
Holden sighed again, pulling his silver-rimmed eyeglasses off of the top of his head and putting them back on to better see what they had pulled out of their pocket. His eyes widened in dumbfounded surprise, darting from Rhys's face to the object. The stranger notices this and also looks down at their hands.
"I- It's not the fanciest collar but... It is electric! I mean I uh...." They held the shock collar out in both trembling hands, holding it up so Holden could see it better.
It takes several moments before Holden can pry his eyes away from the collar to look at his visitor, face still betraying how utterly surprised he is. After a few more seconds, Holden regains his composure somewhat and runs his hand through his neatly-cropped hair.
"You... You'd like to come inside?" The doctor managed to choke out in a hoarse voice. Rhys nodded eagerly. A little too eagerly. Holden slowly swings the door open, gesturing for them to come inside. He stares down at them over the rim of his glasses as they pass by into the house.
Holden pokes his head out of the doorway and looks around for a moment to make sure no one else was with them. Satisfied, he pulls the door shut and heads inside behind his new guest. His night just got very, very interesting...
Holden gestured to the small, dark wooden dining table in the kitchen. "Have a seat." Rhys does so immediately, sitting down in the chair across from him.
"So, your name is Rhys?" The doctor asks ask he steeples his hands in front of him on the dining room table.
They nod, eyes staring back at him intently like they want to say something. Holden tilts his head slightly as he notices this.
"Yes..?" Holden asks, impatiently.
Rhys raised their eyebrows questioningly, remaining silent. Holden furrowed his brow, frustrated again.
"Speak." He says gruffly.
This seemed to be the invitation they were waiting for. "T-thank you! My name is Rhys but... I'll respond to whatever you'd like to call me!" They sputter out quickly, stumbling over their words.
The doctor chuckled a bit at this, before leaning back and crossing his thick forearms over his chest as a smirk built on his face.
"How remarkable.." he said in a low voice.
Holden gets up from the table, walking around to stand behind Rhys who remains still. Slowly, Holden picked up the shock collar from the table, inspecting it as he turned it over in his hands.
"Hmmm.. very good choice of collar. Strong electronics inside, and a locking mechanism as well." He moves to stand directly behind them, his tall form towering over them as they sit in the chair. He takes the collar and puts it around Rhys's neck from behind, securing it snugly and locking it shut. He leaned down, putting his mouth next to their ear.
"There we go..." He said in a low whisper, "Wouldn't want my new pet getting lost, now would we?"
A small, trembling grin spread across Rhys's face at this, as they remained facing forward with their hands folded in their lap. Suddenly, Holden grabs their chin, and tilts their head up to look at him.
"Hmmm... You're a little crazy, aren't you?" Rhys stared back at him with wide eyes, seemingly unfazed as his large hand moved to stroke their cheek.
Was that excitement on their face?
Once again Holden leaned in close, his hands gripping both arms of the chair they were sitting in. He gives a low, satisfied sigh before growling in a low voice,
"I really like that. Welcome home, my pet."
