Miracle Boxes - The Order Generation
These are the third and current iteration of the Miracle Boxes, stretching into the modern day, marked by the forming of the Order of the Guardians and their quest to seek out all Miraculouses. Because of this we see the most change in what Miraculouses are in each box, and unevenly distributed numbers across the Boxes.
The Miraculous War was started by the Guardian of the Successor Box, wanting to unite all Miracle Boxes under one organization. Some Guardians and their holders joined him, forming the Order of the Guardians, while others were declared as rogues and were forced into hiding.
Kwamis had little say in their fate during this time, as the Guardian of the Successor Box had claimed the earthly Soul Gem, using its magic to bind kwamis to any commands that was given to them. The only comfort the kwamis had was that Order of the Guardians were indeed mostly using their power for the protecting of the world, though at the price of the kwamis' freedom.
---
The Forgotten Box - Hidden (Free) Panda Crow Unicorn
While there has been no change what was once known as the Secret Box, on earth this Miracle Box has truly earned the title of "forgotten", being mostly unknown to the world of the magic. The first Celestial Guardian felt that control of this Miracle Box was his birthright, and went out of his way to suppress knowledge of it when he could not find it, leading to only a handful of people knowing of this Box. However with the right questions anyone could learn of this box by forcing a kwami to reveal what they know.
The Mother Box - Tibet to Paris (Order) Ladybug Black Cat Dragon Cobra Rabbit Bee Butterfly Dog Fox Goat Horse Monkey Mouse Ox Peacock Pig Rooster Tiger Turtle
With the Guardian of the Successor Box being one who who formed the Order of the Guardians and started the Miraculous War, it was natural that this Miracle Box became the one with the most kwamis within it. Taking several kwamis originally from the box, he arranged them in the upper box meant to loosely model the concepts of Yin-Yan and Wuxing. For the lower box he took all the kwamis from the Zodiac Box, with them of course being modeled after the Chinese Zodiac. With this box hosting the only two Alphas the Order has, it is fiercely guarded.
The Wandering Box - Wandering the World (Free) Wolf Platypus Phoenix Kangaroo Octopus Sheep Snow Leopard
When the Island Box was first invited to join the Order, this Guardian did not realize what was she was walking into; and upon learning what the Order had done to the kwamis she attempted to back out, but the Order did not just let them walk away. Only managing to escape with three of the twelve Miraculouses she had come with, the Guardian managed to keep the two Alphas of her box. But that only put a bigger target on her back. Knowing that no place was now safe for her, this Guardian took on the habit of constantly being on the move, wandering about the world to protect her Miracle Box, along with taking in other kwamis that had been displaced from their home Miracle Box thanks to the Miraculous War.
The Reclaimed Box - Tibet to Jordan (Free) Pterosaur Tuatara Komodo Parrot Thylacine
The Guardian of the Zodiac Box was the first Guardian to join the Order, though all the kwamis they had once protected were removed from their box, instead their box became home to other Miraculouses they claimed from around the world. While the original Guardian was content in this new found order, their successor was not. Unhappy with the way the kwamis were being treated, this apprentice betrayed the Order, smuggling all the kwamis in the Miracle Box out. He was on the run for many years with the Order hunting him down, and while some Miraculouses were lost in his flight, he still managed to keep the box he reclaimed safe from the Order's hands, along with five remaining kwamis.
The Direction Box - Tibet to New York (Order) Thunderbird Bear Beaver Bison Cougar Coyote Deer Eagle Falcon Goose Locust Otter Owl Rattlesnake Raven Salmon Woodpecker
There were few kwamis actually in the Perennial Box when the Order came to claim the Miraculouses in the Americas, rather the kwamis were living all across the continent among many different people. The Order was able to overpower and take lone Miraculouses, but word spread and the remaining holders began to seek out their Guardians. The Guardian of this box had his last stand in what is now the Navajo Nation, but he knew it was a war they could not win. The remaining kwamis told the Order that they would come, only on the condition that their Guardian kept his title, which was honored. The Order modeled the upper box based their own interpretation of the Medicine Wheel they saw many groups using, and the lower box based on what they believed to be this continent's zodiac, though it actually had little basis in the actual cultures they warred with.
The Hidden Box - Mexico (Free) Firefly Raccoon Feathered Serpent Spider Axolotl Jaguar Llama
This was the Miracle Box initially targeted by the Order when they first came to the Americas, their first attack allowing them to claim half of the Miraculouses within the Box. The Guardian of this Box's escape was narrow, managing to get the Alphas within to safety and to stay in hiding with the Jaguar Miraculous. Becoming impossible to track, the Order turned their attention to the other Miracle Box on the continent. This Guardian also became the shelter for other kwamis on the continent fleeing from the war up north.
The Stranded Box - Brazil (Free) Dinosaur Snail Bat Binturong Blackbuck
Like the other Miracle Boxes in the western hemisphere, the Tropical Box was not spared from the Order's attack; resulting in the death of their Guardian and all Miraculouses within being seized save for the Snail Miraculous, this kwami managing to flee before the Miracle Box itself was claimed as well. This Miracle Box went without a human caretaker after the death of the last Guardian, rather the Snail kwami choosing to avoid humanity in favor of seeking out fellow kwamis. Their numbers are few, and they remain hidden together in the Amazon Rainforest, helping humans when they can, but waiting for a chance to fully return among humanity.
The Enduring Box - Zimbabwe (Free) Griffin Penguin Anglerfish Chameleon Giraffe Gorilla Okapi Secretarybird Squirrel Zebra
The Order of the Guardians took the Miraculous war to Africa, just like they had in the Americas, the battle for the Miraculouses being just as fierce. While many Miraculouses were lost from the two African Boxes, just as many were reclaimed as well. While their sister Box had been lost, the remaining holders of the Jungle Box managed to drive the Order of the Guardians out of Africa entirely; leaving this box as largest Miracle Box outside the Order's control. Though the free Miracle Boxes don't have an organized group, the Guardians of the Enduring Box are seen as the natural leaders among those who remain outside of the Order.
The Cycle Box - Tibet (Order) Grim Qilin Dragonfly Frog Camel Cheetah Crocodile Elephant Hippopotamus Hyena Jackal Ostrich Pangolin Rhinoceros Scarab Tortoise Vulture
With the Desert Box being the last Miracle Box the Order was able to claim, they were faced with the reality that they were unable to find any Alpha kwamis outside of the Ladybug and Black Cat. So instead Order of the Guardians placed the kwamis of Light and Darkness within this box, declaring them to be an Alpha Duo, a lie the magical world came to believe. The rest of the Miraculouses placed in this box were meant to be modeled after the natural cycles of the world; with the upper box hosting kwamis meant to symbolize day, night, and the three Egyptian seasons; with the lower box embracing the rest of that ancient calendar.
The Season Box - Tibet (Order) Kelpie Aurochs Lynx Ant Crab Dove Elk Gecko Hedgehog Ibex Lion Moth Mouflon Polar Bear Scorpion Seahorse Swan
With their Guardian willing joining the Order of the Guardians, the kwamis of the Constellation Box remained the same as before, their powers now being used against their will to attack other Miracle Boxes and to bring their fellow kwamis under the control of the growing Order of the Guardians. The twelve original kwamis lay in the lower box, based on the western zodiac. Meanwhile the upper box hosts kwamis taken from other boxes, who are meant to symbolize the passing of the seasons.
The Drifting Box - Tonga (Free) Coral Dolphin Jellyfish Narwhal Ray Seal Shark
Like their fellow kwamis around the world, the ones that were once in the Arctic Box fell victim to an attack by the Order with little warning. With all Miraculouses within stolen save for the Narwhal and the Seal, their Guardian cast the box into the sea in a last desperate attempt to protect them. The title 'drifting' was one truly earned, swept away into the sea for many years. Though washed ashore multiple times, the remaining kwamis did not find someone they found worthy until they encountered more of their kind in the tropics, living without a Miracle Box until they were found at sea.
The Frozen Box - Russia (Free) Yeti Red Panda Moose Quail Weasel Wolverine
In the early days of the Order of the Guardians the Mountain Box was numbered among them, their Guardian too wishing to create organization among those who were duty-bound to protect the Miraculouses. But when she saw that this Order was only creating war she knew that she could not stay. There was no epic betrayal or running away in the night, this Guardian simply went on a mission with the Miraculouses she was assigned in tow, and never came back.
---
The Order Generation is the generation of Miracle Boxes that stands today in modern times. But with the Order of the Guardians having been destroyed by Feast nearly a century and a half ago those in the magical world are looking forward to a change. However there are some kwamis that think that this new beginning should be a world without humanity.

Just as promised, Chloé's up first!
I gave her the undefined unicorn miraculous inspired by the fairytale of The Brave Little Taylor.
This miraculous doesn't have a power or a concept yet because I couldn't exactly think of a fitting one 😅 (suggestions are welcome!). Her weapon is a wand, but she can unsheathe it into a needle point dagger.
Next up is probably Marinette!

🫧 ribbon aqua symphony! 🫧
this is a redraw from one of my all time favorite drawings from back in 2018! comparison and process under the cut 🫧
the crazy thing is I still love the original SO much it's hard for me to not be like 'the og is still better in a lot of ways'... I still like the colors! a lot more bright yellow, whereas I used it more sparingly in the newer one and aimed for a more cohesive palette overall. I also find myself liking the dark lineart on the original, which is wild because I pretty much always color lineart on big pieces now, but it really does make her pop more along with the more contrasty shading! I also think I could've kept the mew aqua rod more rainbowy pastel like the original, bc now, despite following canon colors it doesn't pop as much... sometimes Artistic Liberties... Are Better... also as fun trivia the original had a tally hall reference in the caption :3
I usually don't point out flaws so much in my own art but MAN I struggled a lot with this redraw and almost gave up several times, I was getting REALLY frustrated, to the point of crying which hasnt happened in a long time, at least not over a drawing @_@;; I'm still kind of frustrated because even back when I drew the original I had a strong vision, and I still can't quite capture that yet and I just want to say 'I LIKE X ABOUT THE ORIGINAL MORE THAN THE NEW ONE' before other people do hahah...
If I must say something good about the newer one, I took lighting more into account (...if her skin was reflecting purple in the original, her clothes should've also been affected by that lighting right?? lol) and the composition is better- the posers more fluid. Also, I like her redesigned outfit so much more!! and I'm much more confident in drawing faces and expressions. (the red lips in the og are throwing me off lmao) also! good textures. kinda Cronchy.
ANYWAY here's a process gif. I spent several days on this on and off, so no speedpaint aaaugh

Some quick things to get out of the way with my kwamis and this newest batch.
Animosity and Wrath: While these two seem fundamentally close, which they are, Animosity is ultimately hate, not just rage. Hate is often a byproduct of anger, hence why they are so closely related, but Animosity doesn't always need to come from a place of anger, but 9 times out of 10, it usually is. So, Ira is the pure essence of anger and a short fuse, while Orikko is hatred personified.
Sloth and Lethargy: These two were a little harder to explain at first, but ultimately comes down to the definitions of them and their pairs. So, Sloth is the reluctance to work while Lethargy is low energy, but not reluctance. This is further shown in the pairs. Diligence is careful, persistent work while Determination is firmness and unyielding. They are both what leads to Diligence and Sloth, but not them at the same time. So, here's the explanation for them:
Diligentia is the act of the hard work that could take years to accomplish and the keen eye for every detail in the work. Sloth is the refusal to work. Determination is the unyielding force that drives us. Lethargy is that low energy state when we need to relax and take a break.
The Pandora Box:
I wasn't going to call it this, but I like it, so it stays. Now, this is where I say it's the closest you'll get to it being a miracle box because this box contains the jewels of the Sins but is guarded by the Virtues.
Now, the box:
The box itself is very unassuming. The most notable things about it is the bizarre art/markings and that there is no way to open the box. This is because the box is more of a prison, crafted by the Virtues to hold the Sins. And while the design is near flawless, there is but one flaw to it. While no ordinary mortal can open it, a holder would have access to the contents within. Something the Virtues will keep away from the holders and other kwamis.
The Virtues and Sins are the result of Velze's "death" just as is the creation of Gimmi. They were once a core ensemble of the family as the core beliefs, good and bad, that Velze upheld. The kwamis as a whole embraced them, until the Sins started causing trouble that their virtuous pairs deemed them too dangerous to leave to their own devices, containing them against the wills of their siblings.
Now the Virtues have assigned themselves the task of watching over the Sins and keeping them contained until they are all called back on the final day. At least, that's what they hope.

What powers and concepts would you give to the Miraculouses in the Native American box?
Here are my headcanons for the Native American Box! Links lead to my bios for them, with more detailed info and art:
Upper Box:
Kiikaa the Thunderbird, kwami of Electricity. She rests in the Center of the Upper Box. Kiikaa has control over all things related to Electricity. This doesn't just mean shooting lighting, but also manipulating electronics and even mind control (as the nervous system uses electric signals).
Yanna the Bison, kwami of Victory. She rests in the North section of the Upper Box. Yanna's powers allow her holders to become stronger when winning, and to always claim their prizes for their Victory.
Remmi the Coyote, kwami of Despair. They rest in the East section of the Upper Box. Remmi's powers increase the Despair people feel in an area, and create beings known as Prowlers that protect and feed on sources of hope.
Liiri the Eagle, kwami of Freedom. They rest in the South section of the Upper Box. Like in canon Liiri's powers Free people from emotional and mental restrictions, though I have also given them the power to break Free of physical restraints too.
Vollee the Locust, kwami of Invasion. He rests in the West section of the Upper Box. Vollee's powers allow holders to create clones of themselves that attack in sync, and to appear behind a target to strike.
Lower Box:
Ziibi the Otter, kwami of Transformation. His powers allow his holders to transform into different people or animals.
Dess the Cougar, kwami of Apathy. Their powers allow them to drain emotions from someone and influence those people.
Sorren the Falcon, kwami of Observation. His powers allow one to see anything from anywhere in the world.
Chaapa the Beaver, kwami of Innovation. His powers allow one to plan and construct things at enhanced speeds.
Fawnna the Deer, kwami of Wilderness. Her powers lets one summon and influence nearby animals.
Drill the Woodpecker, kwami of Expansion. His power manipulate the amount of space something can hold.
Finn Salmon, kwami of Navigation. His powers lets one always find what they are seeking.
Shashh the Bear, kwami of Preservation. Her powers seal events of the past so time travel cannot alter them.
Ommen the Raven, kwami of Probability. Her powers allow one to tip the chances in one's favor.
Habuu the Rattlesnake, kwami of Beauty. Her powers let her take on one's ideal form and influence them.
Tyyto the Owl, kwami of Secrets. Her powers let her make things hidden and to learn others' Secrets.
Karrma the Goose, kwami of Justice. Her powers let one subject someone to what they've done to another.

What if Pixel’s head was stuck backwards?
They’d be so worried that they wouldn’t be able to get it back to normal. It would look terrifying to everyone else. Imagine seeing someone walking around with their head backwards, that would at the very least be startling.
If any of the kids saw Pixel with their head backwards, it would probabaly give them nightmares. They know Pixel is okay, but it’s still scary to see your friend with their head the wrong way around.
Elle would be the least freaked out, since she’s a robot as well so she knows that this is possible. She just calls Marina to come and help get Pixel’s head unstuck.
From that point on, Pixel would start putting their head on backwards as a way of pranking the other kids.
Thank you for the ask!!! This gave me the idea that for Halloween Pixel would dress up as the headless horseman. Or literally any other headless character.

where are all the miracle boxes currently located in the present day?
Mother Box - Paris
Wandering Box - Travels around the world (Guardian is originally from Australia)
Direction Box - New York
Forgotten Box - I forgot... (jk it's chilling on the dark side of the moon)
Hidden Box - Mexico
Enduring Box - Zimbabwe
Cycle Box - Tibet (in the ruins of the temple)
Season Box - Tibet (in the ruins of the temple)
Drifting Box - Pacific Islands (haven't decided which country yet)
Frozen Box - Russia
Then the Reclaimed Box and the Stranded Box currently don't yet have locations or Guardians fully planned out. The Stranded Box will be more isolated though, I'm thinking probably in middle of the Amazon; and the Reclaimed Box will be far from places the Order had control, so probably somewhere in Africa or in the Americas, but I'm leaning towards Africa since there's only one box on the continent so far.

Okay so I know you said canon characters only and that the ballet butterfly is already taken, but just just imagine Claudia from warm embrace of shadows with it...
Okay, yeah, I see the vision XD Can't promise it'll be canon, but I couldn't get the image out of my head!
Technically the Butterfly kwami from the ballet miracle box is supposed to have one of those old fancy cigarette holders, but I figured regular ones might fit her vibe better. The circular item on her belt is the miraculous jewel (the compact mirror) and the rectangular one is where she keeps her cigarettes.
I'll leave naming privileges for @wisteriasymphony because I've got nothing XD
Anyway, thank you for the suggestion! This was very fun!

In canon, the Mother Box is considered to be the most powerful box with the most powerful jewels (some are questionable at best). IF the Mother Box existed in your au, would you still have the same kwamis or would you replace any with yours?
Hmm, if it were supposed to be the most powerful but still keep the same formatting with the layers then I'd replace the Matter duo with the Cycle duo and the Wu Xing with my kwamis. So instead of the butterfly, fox, bee, peacock, and turtle, I'd use the phoenix, and bison, keep the butterfly, seal, and the deer. So it's pretty obvious from those that it's formated after the Wu Xing while still being pretty powerful since they're second layers.
I think I'd replace the dragon with the koi but that's the only zodiac I'd change.

could you do a ronin x reader where ronin enters our house just to find us babysitting or finds us taking care of our little brother? :33

Fun fact, The Brother's name is my friend's oc's child name
It starts with a knock at your window.
A sharp, familiar tap-tap-tap—the kind that means trouble if you ignore it. Because when Ronin wants your attention, he gets it. You slide the window open, already bracing yourself for whatever chaos he’s bringing tonight.
And there he is. Your very own devil, crouched on the fire escape like a stray cat with a taste for blood. Black hoodie pulled over his horns—today’s are sleek and curved like a ram’s—and his grin is all teeth.
"Hey, darling," Ronin drawls, voice low and syrupy. "Miss me?"
You open your mouth—to flirt, to threaten, to drag him inside—but a loud clatter from the living room reminds you why you really don’t have time for this.
Ronin hears it too. His head tilts, eyes gleaming sharp and black in the moonlight. "You got company?"
"...I'm babysitting."
His expression freezes for half a second—then breaks into a slow, wicked smile. "Babysitting? You?" He snickers, swinging one leg through the window. "Oh, I gotta see this."
"Ronin—no—" But it’s too late. He’s already inside.
You barely shut the window before he’s prowling through your apartment like he owns the place—touching things he shouldn’t, like the nosy little menace he is. And you can’t even stop him because your hands are full of juice boxes and Goldfish crackers.
"Is this for the kid?" he teases, plucking a juice box from your grip and stabbing the straw in with unnecessary force. "Thought you liked your snacks a little more… sinful, sweetheart."
"Behave," you hiss, swatting his hand away. "He’s eight. And if you traumatize him, I’m putting you in time-out."
Ronin laughs—actually laughs. A dark, heady sound that shouldn’t be allowed to feel as good as it does. "? You should’ve told me sooner."
You’re about to shove him—gently, mostly—when a small, curious voice cuts through the air.
"Who’s that?"
Your little brother stands in the doorway, blinking wide-eyed at the devil in your kitchen. He’s wearing pajamas with little rocket ships on them, one sock half-off, and his hair’s sticking up in about five different directions.
Before you can come up with an explanation, Ronin moves.
He crouches down to your brother’s eye level, all smooth confidence and mischief. "Hey, kid. I’m Ronin."
Your brother stares. And stares. His little mouth drops open.
"Are you… are you a supervillain?"
Ronin practically glows. "Depends—do I look like one?"
Your brother nods so fast it’s a miracle his head doesn’t fly off. "Yeah. You look like you fight superheroes and stuff."
"Smart kid," Ronin hums, glancing up at you with a wicked glint. "I like him already."
"Don’t encourage him," you mutter, though you’re pretty sure it’s too late for that.
Ronin turns his full attention back to your brother, like he’s the most fascinating thing in the world. "So, kid—what’s your name?"
"Ryo," your brother says proudly. "I’m eight. And I can do a kickflip on my skateboard."
"No shit?" Ronin whistles low, clearly impressed. "That’s cooler than anything your sibling’s ever done."
You shoot him a glare, but Ryo beams, puffing his chest out. "Yeah! I’m gonna be a stuntman when I grow up."
"Big dreams." Ronin leans in conspiratorially. "Y’know, when I was your age, I wanted to be the devil."
Ryo’s eyes go huge. "And did you do it? Did you become the devil?"
Ronin grins—slow and sharp, like a knife sliding free. "What do you think?"
Your brother takes a long, thoughtful look at his horns, his fangs, and the way he carries himself like he owns the world—and nods. "Yeah. You totally did."
You pinch the bridge of your nose. "This is my life now."
It’s not that bad, though. Against all odds, Ronin’s… good with Ryo.
He watches the kid show off his Pokémon cards like they’re priceless treasures, asks just the right questions about his skateboard tricks, and even teaches him how to shuffle a deck of cards one-handed. (You’re suspicious of how easily he knows that particular skill.)
At some point, Ryo tugs on your sleeve. "Is he your boyfriend?"
You freeze.
Ronin, naturally, does not. "What, your sibling didn’t tell you? We’re totally dating."
Ryo gasps, looking at you like you’ve been keeping the world’s greatest secret. "Why didn’t you say so?! He’s so cool!"
You bury your face in your hands. "I hate both of you."
Ronin just leans against the counter, smug as hell. "Nah, babe. You love us."
Eventually, bedtime rolls around. After reading three stories (because apparently Ronin doesn’t believe in boundaries) and promising to teach Ryo how to "break out of boring places" next time, you finally tuck him in.
When you slip back into the living room, Ronin’s lounging on the couch—legs sprawled out, arms draped over the back like he owns it. Which, to be fair, is very on-brand.
"You liked him," you say, flopping down beside him.
Ronin makes a vague sound of protest. "What, the kid? Eh, he’s fine."
"You were nice, Ronin."
He makes a face like you’ve personally offended him. "Nice is a stretch, darling."
"You let him climb on your back."
"I’m a goddamn jungle gym now?" He huffs—but there’s no real bite to it. If anything, he’s still a little too pleased with himself. "Tch. Don’t get used to it. I only tolerate brats ‘cause they’re related to you."
Warmth bubbles up in your chest, unexpected and maybe a little dangerous. But you can’t stop yourself from leaning closer, pressing a soft kiss to his jaw. "Thanks for that."
Ronin stills for a heartbeat—then, in true Ronin fashion, flips the script entirely.
"You know," he murmurs, voice dropping low and dark, "if I get boyfriend privileges now… you owe me for babysitting duty."
You roll your eyes, pushing him back when he tries to bite your neck. "God, you’re the worst."
"Aw, darling," he purrs, pulling you into his lap like you weigh nothing at all. "You wouldn’t have it any other way."
And honestly? He’s right.

Do you guys accept people making OCs for this AU?
Also, how are Miraculous from outside Paris (i.e. the Native American box) affected by everything? Do holders like Eagle get affected by Miracle Exposure Syndrome, or is that exclusive to Paris?
Yes, we do! If you want to share them, we have a community on tumblr perfect for that.
All miraculouses will cause MES, not just the Paris ones. The Ladybug/Hawkmoth war is just the first time in a while that nearly all of the remaining miraculouses have been at play, so the MES is more noticeable since it's affecting more people, if that makes sense?

Daddy’s Little Shopper
Summary: Frank, the doting shopkeeper, learns the art of compromise as Emma turns her pretend purchases into a heartwarming family memory.
Pairing: Frank Benson × Fem! Reader & OC
Warnings: None
Also read on Ao3
The soft afternoon light filtered through the curtains as you leaned against the doorframe, watching your husband, Frank, play with your two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Emma. The sight warmed your heart. Frank, who always carried an air of authority and poise in his professional life, had transformed into a patient and doting father, fully immersed in their shared game of supermarket.
Seated cross-legged behind a tiny toy cash register, Frank adjusted his posture with exaggerated seriousness, his chubby frame looking almost comically out of place behind the miniature setup. His white hair glowed in the light, and his hazel eyes twinkled with amusement as he scanned an invisible barcode on a pretend can of beans.
“That’ll be £2.50, Miss Emma,” Frank said in his rich baritone voice, adopting a mock-professional tone.
Emma, clutching her little toy shopping basket filled with a mix of plush vegetables, plastic bottles, and random items from her toy box, tilted her head in consideration. “Two pounds fifty?” she repeated, her small brows furrowing as she processed the information.
“That’s correct,” Frank replied with a small smirk, watching her intense little face. “Quite the bargain, don’t you think?”
Emma shook her head decisively. “No, Daddy. That’s too expensive. I’m not buying it.”
Frank chuckled, his hooked nose flaring slightly as he leaned forward. “Ah, but you see, this is the best can of beans in all of the land,” he countered, holding the imaginary item up as though it were a precious artifact. “Imported directly from… erm… the magical fields of Bean-topia. Worth every penny.”
Emma pursed her lips, clearly unconvinced. “Still too ‘spensive,” she declared, putting the can back in her basket. “What about this?” She held up a stuffed carrot, its orange fabric faded from use.
“Ah, the carrot,” Frank mused, inspecting it with exaggerated gravity. “For you, my most loyal customer, it’s just 50p.”
Emma beamed. “Okay, I’ll buy it!” She reached into her tiny purse, pulling out a handful of imaginary coins, which she carefully placed in Frank’s outstretched palm.
Frank made a show of counting them, pretending to frown as he held one up to the light. “Hmm, this coin is a bit… suspicious,” he teased, raising an eyebrow. “Are you paying me in chocolate coins again?”
Emma giggled, her laughter like music. “No, Daddy! It’s real money.”
“Ah, my mistake,” Frank said solemnly, handing her the carrot. “Here you go, madam. One premium carrot. Enjoy.”
Emma placed it delicately back into her basket and moved to her next purchase, this time a plastic carton of milk. “How much is this?” she asked, her voice full of curiosity.
Frank tapped the register with dramatic flair. “For you, the milk is on sale today. Only £1.”
Emma gasped as though it were a miracle. “Wow! That’s not ‘spensive. I’ll take it.”
You couldn’t help but smile, your heart swelling as you observed their playful banter. It was these moments—so ordinary, yet so precious—that reminded you of the deep love and connection within your little family.
Frank glanced up, catching you watching them, and his smirk softened into a warm smile. “We’ve got quite the savvy shopper here,” he said, his baritone voice full of pride. “She’s already haggling better than most adults.”
Emma turned to you, holding up her basket triumphantly. “Look, Mommy! I bought a carrot and milk.”
“You’re a very smart shopper, sweetheart,” you praised, stepping into the room to crouch beside her. “Daddy doesn’t stand a chance against your negotiating skills.”
Frank let out a low chuckle. “I’ll have you know I’m running a legitimate business here,” he said, pretending to look offended. “And I’ll not be outwitted by a two-year-old.”
Emma giggled, placing another item on the counter. “How much for this, Daddy?”
Frank looked at the toy apple and leaned forward conspiratorially. “For you, my darling Emma? It’s free.”
Emma squealed in delight, clapping her hands. “Yay! Thank you, Daddy!”
You leaned in, pressing a kiss to Frank’s cheek. “Looks like the shopkeeper has a soft spot for his favorite customer.”
Frank turned to you, his hazel eyes sparkling. “Always,” he murmured, wrapping an arm around your waist as Emma giggled and continued her shopping spree.
