coincidentally, the last panel is what their brains end up looking like after all the stress they put them through over the course of the book

Ocean's Echo Paperback & Epilogue
Tumblr media
The Ocean's Echo paperback is out! If anyone in the US or Canada was waiting for it to drop in price, now is the time.
There is a new epilogue out with it! It is a fluffy romantic missing-scene type chapter set a few days after the end of the book. I very much wanted this to be available to everyone who already has a copy as well as international readers, so you can get access to this for free at my newsletter here. You can also get it if you haven't read the book, though once again, why.
Hope you enjoy!

This advertisement is for a science fiction book called Ocean’s Echo by Everina Maxell.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT:
Tennal is a vapid socialite with the ability to read minds, and Lt. Surit Yeni is a soldier with a chip on his shoulder who has been tasked with using his own neuromodifications to overpower Tennal’s will and conscript him into service within the space military. But Surit’s not (that much of) an asshole, so they lie to all the space soldiers with all their space guns. But then a chaotic salvage-retrieval mission upends a decades-old power struggle and also compromises the security of their falsehood. Can two unwilling weapons of war bring about peace?

Sleepy Readathon - February
I forgot which days I actually read books and which days I slept so I've put it in randomly 😂
Love, Theoretically was crap! The Last Sun is super fun and I've been listening to an hour of it every night. Last hour of audiobook left. Ocean's Echo is fantastic and has such a cool premise.
Books Finished:
Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood: 3 ⭐
Currently Reading:
The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards (audiobook)
Ocean's Echo by Everina Maxwell

Ocean's Echo is a queer space opera in which Tennal, a disaster socialite with mindreading powers, gets conscripted into the space military and ordered to soulbond with his fellow soldier Surit - an earnest and well-intentioned type who follows his own personal ethical compass with the single-minded devotion of a bull in a china shop.
It's what you would get if you took Lois McMaster Bujold's body of work and decided to make it revolve around queer soulbonding. It somehow made Publishers Weekly's Best Books of the Year list. It's in the same universe as Winter's Orbit, but you don't need to have read that - it stands completely alone.
If you like awful main characters who fall into disasters and proceed to make them everyone else's problem, love interests who have memorized the ENTIRE rule book, and a deep commitment to space mindreading powers on the author's part, then *waves hands*. And it has an incredible cover, which I had nothing to do with at all, so feel free to buy one just to rip it off and stick on your wall.

I for one, am living for the new hot sub-genre in science fiction that's just "Gay people in space, but there's no way to describe the actual plot of the story outside the context of actually reading it that doesn't sound like an acid trip."

‘We have solved your situation for you,’ Tennal announced grandly.
‘You haven’t!’ Zin said. ‘You absolutely haven’t!’
‘We have fucked up the situation,’ Tennal amended, just as grandly, ‘in a new and interesting way.’
- Ocean’s Echo, Everina Maxwell
